Thanks for the heads-up, Kyle. I'll have to add a post about my cousin's '88 Loyale, which is stil running. She sold it to her nephew (on the other side of the family) and it just refuses to die.

I'm eating some Ralley Bread w/Chicken Parm as we speak!

By definition, it has to be spicy, steamy hot, and dipped in mud (gravy) sideways.
Plus you have to eat it fast! ;-)

oops, wrong board!
Jamie was saying how crappy the Phase I EJ25 is because everyone is blowing cylinders at 50-60K. hope I don't...

Jeff- As long as there aren't any really big ruts in the sand and you air down your tires you should be okay. Also, a full-size spare is required for some beaches and a good idea regardless (If you get a flat without one you're stuck). I'm sure Juice will weigh-in with additional advice.

Cheers!

(yes, I am)
I would contact Assateague Island (National seashore) authorities directly, to be sure.
BTW, I also bring an air compressor with me when I travel on the beach. Finally, be aware of high and low tides. If you travel at low tide, and come back at high tide, your earlier path (or any path) may not be there.
Bob
Jeff-
Bob's right. Call 'em. You need half a hardware store to go in there.

Been away a while so missed the meltdown. Another thing I missed was the Forester oxygen sensor recall notice - I never received one in the mail. Can I still take the car in for the recall work even without the hard copy notice?
Ed
Driving on the beach? I'd suggest trying it first with someone who has had experience driving there. There is some seriously soft, deep sand in some places on Assateague.
I went in a friend's Explorer and that thing was bottoming out left and right. There is a long, "highway" to get to the less crowded beaches you're sure to want to visit. Without a low range, they may not even let you in (you do have to pay, BTW).
That said, if you do get in, air down to about 18psi. Drive smoothly, keeping your momentum and do not stop on the really soft stuff. No sharp turns, sudden braking or accelerating. Park facing down so when you start again you can get moving.
I drove down in Rodanthe, Outer Banks in my Forester, though I had bigger-than-stock tires and about 8.2" clearance. My Forester is also lighter than your Outback by a couple hundred pounds, so it's less likely to sink. An auto tranny would actually have been better suited than my manual.
It was quite a hoot though. You can see some photos here:

Photos 11-14 were all at the OBX.

Bob
Ed - call us at 1-800-SUBARU3 to confirm if your Sube is effected by the recall. As long as their is a campaign number associated with your VIN, you can get it done.
Thanks!
Patti
Sorry I've been AWOL lately but between our French visitor, weddings, and WORK !! .. I,ve been pretty busy. I check in every day to keep track of "whatz up"(that's for Loosh) but haven't had time to post. Mike-S .. I can only say I'm glad you didn't convince me not to buy the Rex. Juice - the amusement ride is waiting!
Maybe it's because I'm not 21 anymore, but the handling limits of the WRX are at a point that scares the hell out of me
Patti - into bondage eh ? Thanks for the tip .. I'm at the dealers now .. using their computer .. nice touch of customer service huh?
- hutch
Explore those limits carefully-- I recommend an autocross or driving school. I fully agree that you can have all kinds of fun on the street and never get seriously close to the car's limits.

BTW went to the show with a co-worker of mine. He said that the Subaru reps seemed more informed, and enthused about their vehicles than any other manufacturers display. I know the Cadillac people seemed to blow me off (I guess at almost 40 I'm still too young for them to take seriously.). As a matter of fact, most of the representatives seemed to be tired and infifferent of the whole thing.

I've been told the 225/60x16 tires on the current generation Outbacks are too large to fit in there. In Australia, and in most other markets, the Outback comes with a smaller 215/60x16 tire—and that does fit in the spare tire well. In fact, the Australian Outback (and probably other market Outbacks) comes standard with a full-size spare.
And, yes... this spare tire issue is a real "hot button topic" for many of us on this board. BTW, USA-spec Foresters do come with a full-size spare.

I know this is a hot issue here. I told the rep that this is a complaint that many owners of the OB have. That is when she told me about taking out the tool tray. BTW - another gripe on the board here of lack of a light by the ignition key seems to be corrected on the new H6 VDC OB Sedan.
Mark
Colin: there's my angle - I plan to autocross for safety's sake! ;-)
I'm beach-bound this weekend, so another road trip coming up for Sandy.
One of the guys coming up just got a new Jeep Wrangler, so we'll see if we end up checking out the North Bethany beaches or not. His is new so he may be babying it for now.

A.J. I'm puzzeled. You say that like it's a bad thing.
Just got back from N. Bethany last weekend. A friend has a place in Seabreak .. Oh La La .. ah I mean .. nice place

That $1500 isn't an advertising fee. It's statutory rape. They used to call it Additional Dealer Markup. Shop elsewhere.
