    Hi Bob, no Sean was one of Eight, I still have 2 brothers and 3 sisters living, the youngest in the family died 7 years ago. It is ironic that that the youngest in my family and the youngest in Rita's family died in their thirties and Anne Marie followed suit.

    Pat: You know, I just saw your reference to Anne Marie and went back to posts from April/May 2006 to see your note about her passing, which I missed when I was away from Edmunds for a while. Let me express belated condolences for that -- I really feel for you and Rita. I just have to add to what others have noted, that you're a heck of a guy and I have always enjoyed your wisdom and strength here.

    And now to cheer everyone up (or try) -- do you all remember back a few years ago when we were joking with Pat about being retired and spending too much time keeping his cars clean (or something to that effect), and then Rita logged in and got the wrong idea from our good natured ribbing? I remember that being the first time something funny went horribly wrong, but I think Pat straightened it out with Rita later on. Right then I knew we had a good fellow with us!

    Guys, the 48hrs run this year was AWESOME! 23+ cars for almost the entire trip. Highlighted by a tour of SOA and a an audience with the CEO, Kunio Ishigami. They also listened to some of our thoughts and ideas. Hopefully SOA will be included in all future 48hrs Run trips!

    Cool Mike! If you get a chance, I am sure many of use would like to hear what SOA was like, especially the sit-down with the CEO. I think some thought/ideas from enthusiasts are exactly the kind of real-world info they need to hear -- and often CEO types are insulated from that. So that aspect is great to hear about.

    I haven't been here for a few months, and just now caught up with the happenings on this board. Once again, my condolences on your brother's passing. You and Rita just never seem to catch a break in life.

    I actually logged on briefly last week and said "hi", but accidently did it on the Cafe board rather than MTM.

    Just got back to the boards.For the second time in a year, it truly saddens me about another loss in your family. I am sorry to hear about the passing of your brother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, as always.

    Any thoughts on the SpecB v. GTO?

    Currently I'm debating between these 2 vehicles.

    Price on the SpecB will be about 5k-6k more than the GTO.

    You're asking that question in a Subaru forum? :P I'm only vaguely familiar with the current GTO, does it have AWD? I certainly prefer the looks of the Spec B but then that's more a personal preference thing.

    I've been too busy to login until now, as we're going through a huge move here at work and I'm responsible for all the IT equipment.

    Any how, you were in my thoughts all weekend and I wish you my sincere condolences.

    I'll offer some good news to cheer up the Crew, my sister (the one with the 03 Forester) just got 2 job offers after a 13 month drought. She'd graduated Dec. '05. She started one 6 month contract on Sunday, and will start a permanent job somewhere else in March.

    I'm hoping I can send you some of my good fortune for '07, as I've been very fortunate the last few months.

    Normally, and for most people, I'd say spec.B.

    But knowing you, mike, I honestly think you would prefer the monster torque of the small block Chevy V8, plus there aren't any kids in the picture so the 2 door bodystyle isn't really a trade off. I won't even mention gas mileage, because again that's not a priority for you. And you already have a 4WD vehicle for the snow.

    When you take away those 3 critical advantages for the spec.B (4 door practicality, AWD, and efficiency), well, that defeats the whole purpose of getting a Subaru.

    Go for the GTO, maybe slightly used or get one of the last few left since they are a bargain.

    I think you'd probably have more fun in a GTO, and there is still a pretty good selection to choose from. I like the Spec B for what it is, but it seems like it would be boring compared to a GTO. I know the GTO never got a lot of accolades in the press (neither did Spec B) but it's a fairly cool car with good handling and a wonderful V8. Next best alternative to a Vette in GM's lineup. If you can get a bargain on one, I would say to go for it!

    If I recall correctly, you're not a Ford fan, but there are several flavors of the Mustang that are worth looking at. They are certainly on par with the GTO in terms of overall quality and design.

    What about a Chrysler 300C SRT8 ??

    What is the car going to be used for, and when / how often will you be driving it?

    SRT8s run in the low 40s. Maybe high 30s street price, but well beyond the price of even the spec.B.

    Road & Track did a sport sedan comparo and the spec.B actually had the quickest lap times, and that was before it got the 6 speed. But I doubt mike would use it as a track car until it was at least 6+ years old.

    NAV is nice but knowing mike he has spare parts from his car-puter for the GTO.

    Wish we knew too - Host Pat is running similar software as I am and she has frequent login problems, and I rarely do. Shifty has trouble too but he's running Windows ME, so we just roll our eyes at him, lol. The IT people continue to try to figure out the problem.

    I had the problem for the first time last night at work, but I think it might be more related to firewall/caching than anything.

    I'm suprised at the responses on the GTO v. GT question. I am actually leaning toward the SpecB even though it's more money because it's a bit more practical, it will be the daily driver and the idea of the SI drive giving me some more milage was a positive thing, along with likely getting a job where I may be driving 50 miles each way to work after March 1, the AWD was a small factor as well. Couple that with the fact that I can be converted in about 6-7 years to a track car...

    It's a tough decision, I guess I'll need to take an extended test drive in a GTO, cause the LGT I drove over the weekend for 150 miles was very nice and swayed me toward it.

    I do think the spec.B would be a better track car down the road. The GTO is probably too big/heavy, though it would make a good 1/4 mile runner.

    Nav is standard, have you sampled Subaru's GPS? Great voice, only about average features.

    I like both interiors, seats, and I think both have 6 speed manuals (verified that). Only GTO comes in automatic, though it's a 4 speed.

    Yeah it would be 6MT for either car.

    Nav is pretty nice, not a deal breaker, but something that I'm factoring in as a positive.

    They're 2 very different rides. The SpecB is more refined, more sedate, but still a great sports sedan especially as a daily driver and the AWD is nice at anytime and especially the NE. Better Fuel economy too. (Probably less insurance?)

    The GTO would be a fun extra car and a reasonable daily driver. That 6L pushrod V8 is awesome. Raw power. Tons of Torque. It's a lot of fun, especially in RWD form. You'll be able to light up the back wheels at will. I think you can get good deals on them also. I like the Mustang, but I think they did a nicer job on the interior of the GTO than the Mustang. It's also cool having a car that came from the land down under. :D

    I guess my question back is, what do you want in the car? (The GTO would make a decent drift car in a few years) ;)

    no issues on 2 different computers using IE7. I had issues a few months ago, the kind hosts suggested I trim my profile text a bit as that can some issues when they contain the amount of text I have in mine.

    Just moved up to IE7 today and no issues. I wasn't having any with IE6 either. Been trying to duplicate this login thing some are having, but I can't get it to happen!

    Been giving this a lot of thought. Today is feeling like a GTO day in doing some research...

    In my area there are a ton of 6MT GTOs still brand new sitting on their lots, so I should be able to get it for about $25-25.5k max

    I also get the feeling that in the next 2 years the Legacy is going to make some major changes and strides (larger, H6 w/MT, H6 Turbo? better navi, etc) so I may be better off getting the GTO beating it for 2 years and then upgrading to the next gen Legacy.

    Build quality is very good on the Holden actually, it's not typical GM as they were made in Australia, not here.

    Resale? Not really a big issue since I beat my cars pretty good as most of the crew knows my driving style. :)
