I'd have to check for sure, but I *think* even our sube owner's manuals have a warning about trying to setup a slick-like situation for 'testing' purposes. maybe it was my chevy Z71 manual though.

Even after updating my subsciptions, none of the Owners Clubs topics are showing up in my Message Center.

It's been reported, but I have no idea of a fix time frame. For the time being, please access the Crew the "old-fashioned" way. I'll post any news when I hear it.

Even after getting into townhall it takes forever to bring up the topics.
Cheers Pat.
Whilst enthusiasm is good, blind belief in something which may not hold true, isn't.
You might want to blind yourself, but if you don't like differing opinions about Subarus, well sorry. Not everyone has had a perfect experience with Subaru, and not everyone thinks they're the best vehicle for every purpose. Otherwise every car you saw on the road would be a Subaru, wouldn't it?
I'm sorry I have to write something like this, but I am seriously getting tired of misplaced evangelism. This is a site to talk about Subarus and related experiences, and not to bolster one's ego in choice of vehicle. Honest acceptance of faults in the brand is as important as noting the strengths.

If you want a terribly sickening display of out-of-bounds fanatism go check out the BMW 3-series board. If one doesn't agree with the posts there and posts something contray, it's like being burned at the stake! :-)

I brought up the VDC comparo because Subaru wasn't just *saying* it could beat an M-class and an X5 in traction tests (as they did at the BMW drive), they had those cars there.
My very first post on this forum was with a major clutch issue and problems I was having with a dealer. I warned another poster to be careful with this dealer. My faith in Subaru was thin at the time and has since been restored.
Fact is, most Subaru's are in a class by themselves. No other car in the U.S can be bought for $20,000.00 and comes with AWD.
Whilst (woo-hoo, I can use proper English too :-D) I have had the privilege of working for European and British companies and developed more of an appreciation for other cars, this IS a Subaru owner's board.
Stephen's comments are right on, I was reading his posts on the BMW board and he was smacked around and ridiculed for being there. Something along the lines of "why do you even post here if you don't own a BMW!".
Hence, I am therefore stepping up my fight and "blind belief" even more.
Dennis
Manufacturers aren't fully innocent I'll agree. But that includes every manufacturer. Auto reviewers may be biased to certain platforms, but that also includes biases towards Subaru.
As for fanaticism, I never accused anyone of being fanatic. In fact I'm sorry if what I said appears as an accusation (and it likely does) of blind enthusiasm.
I've owned a Subaru too. I like them. But they are far from perfect; and they have lots of GOOD competition, AWD, or 2WD.
Yes, it is a board for Subaru owners. Point taken.
I apologize in advance for any hard feelings I cause anyone.
I think differing opinions are good.
Ross
OTOH, at SoA's little track day they actually had these other vehicles there.
Saying the VDC's AWD system is as good or better than an X5 or M-class isn't exactly saying the entire vehicle is better than a $50,000 car. Ash, have a cup of tea and relax. :-)
Dennis
The WRX was named car of the decade beating out competition such as Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren.
;-) Also made Autocar's top performance car of all time (I'll find that link later).

Dennis: BTW, thanks for witnessing my bashing at the hands of the Bimmer crowd. It was tough because I really like BMW's but the stigma is a you know what! None of that here in the land of Subaru! :-)
Stephen
As for AWD, Ash, you say there are other AWD cars that can compare to the subies? Last I checked there were none in the $20K price range.
-mike
I stand by my claim. It's bogus for them to rig tests to their advantage. To be totally fair, they ought to have a representative from Audi and another from Lexus representing and even driving their cars.
Mercedes was fair. They compared their own car to itself, minus ESP. Also, they had competitive test drives where you could drive a C class back-to-back with an Audi and a Bimmer, plus a few others.
I don't think it's too much to ask for a level playing field. And something better than "I don't think so" and then "the VDC cannot climb the ramp" on any given day. Gimme a break. He was full of it - he has no idea if the VDC would make it up that ramp, and I bet a cold brewski it would.
I am a fanatic. Absolutely. I love cars. Everything about them. It's my hobby. My wife thinks I'm nuts, and she's probably right. But is that enthusiasm limited to just Subaru? Heck no, else why would I be trying Bimmers, Benzes, Altimas, Protoge5s, not to mention the Miata I happen to own.
But will I sit back and watch a marketing guru twist the facts? Sorry, it's just not in me.
-juice
Perhaps I should try to change the culture instead of complaining. :-o
Greg
"As for AWD, Ash, you say there are other AWD cars that can compare to the subies? Last I checked there were none in the $20K price range."
Well not in the $20K price range, but certainly in the price range of the VDC and WRX. The WRX might be a rocket in comparision to the Audi A4, but the Audi's got better materials and in my opinion, better looks. The VDC .. well the sales of that model speak for themselves.
So yes, there are other cars that compare to Subes.
(Hey, at least I've succeeded in stirring up discussion!
That being said - I have my own set of values and I will not/do not say something that I do not believe in or that is not truthful.
I do think, however, that we need to be sensitive to the terminology we use sometimes. One of the things that really has me impressed with this board is the level of respect folks feel for each other (contrary to other boards). I don't think Ash meant anything bad - but maybe we can be a bit more sensitive?
Thanks for letting me share!

If I was at the BMW event and owned a VDC or even and OB w/ rear LSD, I'd have challenged em on the spot, of course they would have run some BS like "our insurance won't cover" or blah blah blah... But those of you who know me personally, know I'd have opened my big mouth!
-mike
For Gods sake as I under stand it, that is the purpose of a limited slip rear diff in an AWD vehicle, and if nothing else it is totally bad form to bash another vehicle when they did not have the guts to have it there for a fair comparison.
Just my 2cents.
Cheers Pat.
I came back late (late for me) to let you know the "word" about the message center problem...fwiw...
"What is probably happening here is that people are bookmarking their subscriptions page. When you do this, the web browser may load a cached version of the page. What the user needs to do when this happens is click ctrl-refresh to reload the page and clear the cache."
That's the word...let me know if I need to reply with a "Wrongo, bucko!"

I've seen the same Isuzus go up an incline on an off-road trail. 100% same vehicles, except one had X tire and the other had Y tire. X made it, Y didn't.
You'd need to have same or similar tires on them to truely test it. So many factors, unrelated to the AWD system playing in there.
-mike
fwiw, you can force a page refresh in IE by holding the CTRL key down when you hit the refresh button. but, I'm sure we all know that trick.
-Brian
I don't have it bookmarked. I hit the "msg center" button at the bottom of the screen. It displays all the new msgs in non-owner's club-specific subscribed groups. The answer he gave you was the usual IT answer to a users question (I know the std suite of answers they/we give)

The ramp was designed so that only one (1) tire was on solid surface at any given time. Three tires were always on rollers. So LSD alone, would not deal with the situation. Well maybe the Tim Leary kind but not Limited Slip Diffy.
It was an impressive test of AWD. What other vehicles can climb the ramp .. I have no idea. I'm sure my Forester and WRX will not.
- Hutch
Now Mike, let's not get carried away. I don't think Karen is going to ban you from posting unless you grow a beard!
Plus if you WERE living in Afghanistan on the board, you wouldn't be posting because your telecom infrastructure would fit in GLAD sandwich bag right about now.

Thanks for the feedback, subearu and paisan, I'm going to throw your posts in their faces and say, "Oh yeah??? Why don't you LOOK at it before assuming a solution!" *stomping foot*
I've used the message center several times now since reporting the problem, and it's worked fine for me. So, if it continues to fail for you, it would be helpful if you could keep a log of the exact steps you take before accessing it. Not sure if that will help, but if they can't duplicate the problem...well...you know the answer I'll get.

I had planned to start a new discussion titled "Subaru Crew New Year's Resolutions" last week, but didn't get to it before leaving town. SO, it may be late, but I'm starting it anyway. Look for it on the list.
