on EdmundsLive not happening this year ... and maybe not the next year! Wassup?

Does anyone know if that BMW Ultimate Driving experience even is happening anywhere near the Bay Area?
  • armac13armac13 Member Posts: 1,129
I would imagine that not having EdmundsLive is simply a cost cutting measure. It's got to cost a bundle. They can't even affort to fix the message centre problem, so ... BTW, the situation with subscriptions seems to be getting worse. Nothing is showing up on my list and when I go in manually I'm often brought in at Oct. 12! Argh!!

if you've locked the car with the keys in it. Wouldn't you not be able to get in the car to activate OnStar?

  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Dave - you can call them to activate it. Provided you're near a cell tower.

your cell phone is not in the car, connected to the power outlet that is not suppose to work.

Message centre is working again for me. Hope it stays up.

Yeah, my subscriptions are back! :-)

paisan: I mean in an office building garage, three levels under ground. Would OnStar get a signal there? I doubt it. You need line of sight, right?

I would love to see Edmunds Live return next year. Please! It would be a great place for the wife to test drive several cars at once. And for me to have a little fun. :-)

The 800 number for BMW is 800-956-4BMW. The brochure/invite I got didn't mention other dates or locations.

You would walk up to street level, have em unlock it, and then go get in it.

GM wants me to pay a monthly fee so they can spy on me? No thanks!

    What about (the other) Bob?

As I had hoped, it looks like Bob Lutz is stirring the pot over at GM. Go get 'em Bob, and please also stop by the Subie design studios too!

My father in law locked his keys in his Saturn with the car running yesterday. He walked home to get the extra set and left the car running! Yikes. I know my Sienna will keep unlocking the doors if it "sees" the keys in the ignition if you try to get out and lock the doors. Wonder if my Subie does that?

I only see his influence affecting the jointly developed cars, like the 7-seater. Not the rest of Subaru's line-up.

    I take that back. Doh!

No..I haven't heard anything new, but thought everyone who is experiencing the problem should check their preferences and see if they have somehow been unsubscribed from their favorite discussions. When talking to Pat(Sedans host), she mentioned that several members in Sedans have had that happen. Re-subscribing should fix it....until it happens again.

Karen- Everything seems to be working again. However, resubscribing didn't help.

is working normally for me and has been for about 20 hours. I did nothing different to "correct" the problem. It obviously was not a user fault since it happened to so many of us and we had changed nothing.

but that seems usual for me lately...
Birthday: Cinco de Mayo - party!

Finally, yesterday, I had a chance for a road trip of sufficient distance to get an accurate gas mileage calculation... drove a friend to Grand Coulee Dam to retrieve his truck which had fried the clutch last week. Bottom line was 28.5 mpg, running btw. 65-70 most of the way. Needless to say, I was pleased!

    Cheers!

    Karen,

My problems with the Message Center was only with my Subaru Crew topics. I tried un/resubscribing over the course of two days and nothing seemed to work.

I was too busy here at work to investigate the problem, but around this time yesterday things magically began working again for all subscriptions.

For about 3-5 days, the only subscription that worked was for the WRX Wagon discussion that is linked from the SC home. The other subscriptions weren't working, but I did absolutely nothing and now they do work.

Happy belated birthday, I wish I were 33 again. I turn the big 60 in April, but age is only a state of mind.

I am still as passionate about everything as I was when I was 21.

    Cheers Pat.

to all in Oct! I'll be turning 40 myself 11/3. I'd love the WRX for a "midlife crisis car", but since I am the only driver, it would be hard to drive 2 Subaru's at the same time:)

Cape May Nov. 4th? Check "Events".
Drove my wife's OB to the Woodbridge meet Wednesday. Had a good time talking with paisan and some of the other crazies. :-)

My OBS was in the shop getting a new bumper after losing a fight with a tree stump.

    My 85 Toyota Cressida also will not allow the doors to be locked with the ignition turned off and the key in it. But.....it does a very nice job of locking the doors when you leave them on the seat :~}

Have long since gone to the hidden key on both cars and they get used!

Somewhere back there, Patti welcomed me back and was happy everything was going well. Actually my clutch chatters madly and the dealer calls it "normal". I'm still researching, and the dealer hasn't really had a chance to see it at its worst; hopefully they'll get a dose of it at my next service interval and do the right thing. The problem is that I'm not sure what the right thing is; I've heard that the clutch material is hard, which causes them to last longer but chatter more, and I've heard folks say that their clutches were replaced and flywheels machined, only to have the chatter come back a little while later. Sigh. My neighbor has a '99 Outback with a nice smooth clutch. SoA, just give me one of those please?

I also had all 4 rotors turned already. Fortunately the dealer did it under warranty; unfortunately it means that the rotors are junk and I will have to find aftermarket rotors that hold up better.

I still think my car is great, don't get me wrong! But I'd feel better if SoA would step up to the plate on some of these recurring, widespread issues.

    Regards,
    -wdb
(PS - anyone wanting to be sure I see a message should probably email it to me, wbaseley@mindspring.com - I don't have much time for the boards these days)

Some rental car co. in Ohio slapped a guy with a huge penalty. Why? By monitoring the on-board GPS/OnStar thingy, they determined he was (gasp!) SPEEDING while in possession of the car. So, yea, Big Brother indeed. He sued and won, BTW.

Have you called our C. S. Department for help? I'm sure that we could do something to get your issues addressed. Just have your VIN and the name of your dealer available when you call.

    Thanks.

I have always had "Subaru Crew" bookmarked and jump in there. I also use auto (what other kind for a car message board) login. Then every subject in the crew shows up with whether or not there are new messages. I ignore the boards I don't want to read and check eveything else. This could very likely mean that I'm not as sophisticated as everyone else here, but sometimes ignorance is bliss.

I am certain your CS folks would be more than happy to help. I prefer to let the dealer do the right thing first, and they may very well do it. The bigger issue however is that a lot of folks are having complaints similar to mine; that's the level at which I'd like to see SoA address the issue. If the clutch needs to be reengineered, I'd like to hear them admit it and then get to it. Same with the rotors.

    Cheers,

They are working for me now.

    I have a theory here...

I came in dead last on Saturday @ the NNJR SCCA event @ Englishtown. I was behind about 5 Integra Type Rs, a WRX, and an IS300. This course was a very open and straight run, allowing the WRX and the Type Rs to get into their power bands easily.

Today, I took 2nd place in G-stock @ the Palisades Auto-x. This was a much tighter circuit, and the temps were warmer. The WRXs and Type Rs there couldn't get into their power bands and were shot dead in the water. The guy who beat me was a 98 Talon TSI who was also running slicks. He also had the fastest time of the day in stock classes, so I'm not sure how stock his car was, but he was a good driver and I've seen him around before.

So my theory is that the reason I've been doing so well up in Albany is due to a tighter course design at the 2 arenas they use up there. I guess I should revise my statement of "no replacement for displacement" to "no replacement for displacement in tight quarters" :)

Go to SIPP (Subaru Internet Performance Panel) link on this home page.

    http://www.subiegal.com/

I noticed it also posted on NewImpreza.com, and on this site from Subie Gal (I-Club). I don't know anything about it, and the home page, from what I've seen doesn't do anything but dance on the screen when you try to click on something.

    Anybody have any info?

It's the secret group SOA allows to go to ride and drive events.

    -mike
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
I believe it's a "panel" compiled of Subaru web hosts that get the most hits on their pages. I'm surprised you don't remember mike raging about it since it was formed. They all got to go to WRX introduction for the dealers in Arizona back in the Spring. They were also invited to the unveiling of the WRX in Detroit, courtesy of SoA.

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
I knew Glenn Wallace was invited to the Arizona event, and some people here wondered why him... I wasn't aware that he was part of this group, however, and that it was the "group" that got invited.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
What I want to know is, how do I get on that panel? How else can I preview all the cool stuff we've been asking for?

Sorry I missed the chat last week, folks. Had the toddler to myself, or I should say she pretty much had me to herself! Wifey milked happy hour beyond 10pm, grrrr.

paisan: in a garage, my concern would be whether OnStar's signal will reach the car. I presume they beam down a command to unlock, but if my car is parked 3 floors under ground, could it receive that signal? I doubt it.

Finally got the parts I ordered from subaruparts.com (it took weeks, literally). Now gotta schedule the body shop to do the cosmetic surgery on Sandy.

a "Subie Site" that gets a lot of hits, and SOA knows about it...

    Bob
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Thats all you need. So start a site Juice, and we'll constantly hit it with remote commands, so you will look like the best site out there. :) Hey it's SOAs loss to not have some of us check out their stuff and give them ideas...

    -mike
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the Subaru Crew exerts as much (if not more) positive Subaru influence as these enthusiasts sites do... We should be invited too...

    Patti, are you listening?

    Bob
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
isn't the Subaru Crew @ Edmunds a site? And,
aren't we hitting it with popularity?

    -Dave
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Hey, my homepage.com site was getting more than 100 hits per day before they went under. I guess a PhotoPoint site doesn't count.

But I agree with the idea that the Subaru Crew @ Edmunds has become a "site" in itself.

    -juice
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
How 'bout getting your IT in putting a "HIT" counter here at the Subaru Crew?

    -Dave
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Only the owner's of the site would get to go. :-)

    Dennis
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
They could invite the Crew Chiefs (me and Mike Smith).

I have a big mouth, though! Not sure I could keep a secret. Sssshhhhh! Don't tell anyone! Oops, too late. Patti - you didn't read that! ;-)

    -juice
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
but couldn't the owner send representatives?
