The question to Subaru --SOA site-- was: why put this poor product on an AWD vehicle used in North America? No answer!
Which regions are AWD Subarus sold? A disclosure that the tires on a new Forester L are "not for use in snow, on ice, in cold rain, in slush, and will prematurely wear" is not unresonable.
The Bridgestone Dueler HT tires have been replaced with Michelin Symmetry, which does have the USER experience and specs for true all-season conditions in most of the Subaru market. The Michelin also has reasonable treadwear.
Answer? cOURTESY OF A REPLY?

I'll keep hoping that Patti can work some magic to get me a B4/blitzen/legacy turbo to 'test' when the time comes...

SIPP has been effectively dead since the marketing folks brought them to Phoenix for the drive/ride-along at Firebird Raceway. (the one where Glenn Wallace almost matched the pro driver's time on the autocross course.)
I don't know if they'll ramp it back up in the future, but it looks a lot like SOA lost their interest/funding for it fairly shortly after the WRX launch.

I apologize for the lack of response. It appears that Bridgestone did offer you some assistance towards the purchase of replacement tires. I'm glad they were able to help you. It is still important that we document your complaint, however. We do use the feedback from our customer's for improvements.
Once again, thanks for your patience!
Patti
I do have a call in about this, but I'm curious what you all would say if they came back to me with a proposal like this.
Now, I guess it would have to be Juice and Mike. And - Brian - because he just said some really nice things (hmmm - can I be swayed??) But what about Bob? What about the Dave's?

Thanks for the giggle.

Or just make the other people the ones who have the oldest subies in the group
hee hee

The rest of us,... like mike said, see who could could not make it, then names in the hat.
-Dave
Not to mention that the Sales Manager of Bell Subaru sat me down in his office and offered me a job.
Is Dennis close enough to Dave?
Ross - ROFL!

I like the contest idea. What about the one with most miles behind the wheel of Subarus? Or the one that has owned the most Soobs in total? Perhaps the oldest running Subaru?
Or how about a point system?
20 points if your name is Dave
10 for Mike
20 for a female with a K in her name
Half credit for immediate family members' names
10 if you autocross
15 if you rallycross
5 for each pet you own (fish count as one)
20 for each Subie in your garage currently
10 bonus points for educators
5 points for each of Darlene's dogs you can name (tough one!)
5 points for each Subaru event attended in the past year
etc.
Or even a trivia contest? That would be cool. I've always wanted to do that.

Well, it sounds more like Dino from the Flintstones, but I think it's a bark. I gotta get more Hadji pix up. He can actually smile. Do cats smile? ;-)

If I hear something, I'll ask if they have some spots for the folks here.
I'll let you know!
Patti
P. S. - uggghhh - with the "Juice Method" I only get 45 points. Guess I can't join!
P. P. S. - if it makes you feel better, you do get to give direct commentary on future products that focus groups don't get to give. Their's is filtered through agencies, people, etc. I do send your stuff direct to folks here - now if only we can get you to the events!
-Brian
5 for being married to Mike
20 for Forester in my garage
hmm... still not enough points
can I get some credit for knowing name of Darlene's husband?
what about my firm anti-Ford stand? It should be worth at least 150 points!

I went on vacation last week down through the Appalachian/Blue Ridge Mountains and Shendoah Valley to Asheville, NC and back. The trip down was mostly on the Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway; the trip back on Interstates 40, 77 and 81. The Forester performed very well for the most part, handling the mountain twisties with ease. I kept the AT in "2" or "3" through most of the mountainous stretches. I did experience some engine pinging while on Skyline Drive which went away when I switched from 87 to 89 octane fuel (Yes, I did read the same C&D article others have; maybe just bad gas in that last tank of 87?). Fuel economy was surprisingly good; I averaged 27 +/- 0.5 mpg through the mountain drives and in those few cities I drove through; my best reading of 28.6 mpg came while driving mostly on I-77 and -81 at average speeds of 65-70 mph.
Subarus are very popular in the region; again, recollections of their use in the NC/SC/GA mountains during my college years a determining factor in my purchase. I saw a wide variety of models over the week, but only 1 WRX (near Roanoke, VA) and 1 Impreza TS wagon (in Asheville). The majority of models I saw were base level Legacy and Impreza wagons, with more Foresters farther north. Asheville is a real Subaru hotbed, with many "old school" Subies still on the road. I saw several Justys (Justies?) and BRATs all in like-new or nearly-new condition.
Looking forward to catching up with the group.

So let me get this straight patti...
Not to put down SOA or anything but...
If you are showing a favoritism toward people who run websites that promote aftermarket performance parts, yet these said performance parts, can void your warranty very easily. That seems like an oxymoron if you ask me. They discourage aftermarket parts on their cars (even their own SPT parts aren't covered in the warranty) yet they give them special benefits. Just doesn't make sense.

Given that California and the Pacific NW are huge markets for Subaru, I think you may need some West Coast representation for those cool events.
Ken
(hand raised, waving in the air)
15 for three cats (28 if I'm allowed to count the 8 goldfishes that died, and the gerbil that ran away).
60 for three Subaru's
that's 95 (pushing my luck: 108)...
still need more points.
Do I get points for each Mac's in the household?

What? No Blitzen? Hey, that wasn't part of the deal. Ok, ok, make it a GT-B E-tune II and we'll call it even.

Why don't we average everyone's autocross times to determine this? Paisan, Colin, see ya there!!!

Kate: you get extra credit for your Loyale, and for surviving a rather extreme collision with your Subie.
More bonus points for:
20 pts for Subie related license plates
50 pts for ever having towed out/saved another vehicle with your Soob
10 pts for being a member of the OCD club
10 pts for SCOA membership
20 pts for each Mac (how could I forget? I lose 10 pts for that!)
10 pts for AARP members
20 pts for sucking up ;-)
10 pts for every auto show you've attended to see the Subaru stand
10 pts for each accessory/clothing you have with Subaru logo
"Ditto" means "Dave" in the Surinamese dialect called Taki Taki, so you get half credit for that.
I'm sure the folliage was sweet. You hit the peak, too. Where'd you get that bad gas, so we can avoid it?

I had an unsupervised auto WRX test drive in Flemgington a couple of weeks ago. Had some fun on the twisty back roads.
Hey juice, I get 50 points for towing. A couple of years ago in Cape May, there was a Cabrio stuck in deep sand up to the bumpers (not on, but near the beach). The girl and her 3 male passengers were just digging it deeper into the sand spinning the wheels. I promptly pulled in front of it, and towed it out with ease.
I almost towed a Saturn out of an uphill intersection a few months ago. Problem was, I couldn't find ANY metal near the bumper. It was all plastic.
Dennis
Is there are driver or navigator in the house? Michele Mouton will do :-)
To whom are you directing your question ?
Dennis
Frank P.: Asheville would have been more fun if I was 10 years younger. It looks to have become a hotbed for young visual artists and outdoorsy types (hence all the Subies, right?). They are serious about their arts and crafts there.
Dennis: Thanks. I still have to get up to Flemington one of these days; sounds like they'll let me do a little more than kick tires without a down payment.
All: I did snap a pic of the Forester on Skyline Drive wearing its new STi grille. It's big file and I e-mailed to juice; maybe he can figure out a way to post it to his photo gallery or the Edmund's gallery.

The town of El Dorado which is right next to Uwharrie has a rusted sign from the 70s that says "Welcome to El Dorado, land of golden opportunity" Seems no one informed the locals of this golden opportunity cause it looks like a scene out of deliverence! Even the town hall is a mobile home!
-mike
For the Saturn, you'd probably have to pop the hood to find something metal to hook your strap to!
I wonder if our friend Ash is from Ashville. ;-)
Ed: you want me to shrink that photo down to, say 1/4 size, and post it? I thought you were going to send me another one, but I can do the shrinking myself quite easily.

Thanks,

Beautiful. Nice natural lines. Deep coloring. Nice contrast.

Dennis - it's a three-quarter front angle so you get some idea of the look. I'll work on getting more ASAP - hard to do now that I'm back at work and non-work daylight getting shorter.
