I just got back from Switzerland (stayed in Basel, visited Lurenz, Zurich, and Grindelwald), and I just had to note how many Subes I saw in the Alps. I have never seen so many Legacy GTs WRXs, Imprezas than I did in that few days. Even a dozen Forestors. Not many Outbacks, but I saw 2. The GT look has really grown on me!

The concentration of Subes got higher the closer you to got to the Alps. They're probably one of the most popular vehicles up there, from what I saw...
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Not too surprising, when you think about it. It's the same here in North America; the closer you get to snow-belt areas, the more Subies you see.

and was grinning from ear to ear. Had to go to the dealer Saturday so I brought my wife along to go for a test drive. She said "I need to go to a track!"
It's a dangerous thing to drive the WRX when you have no intentions of getting a new car for a year or so. Could lead to bad financial decisions. I must resist the urge.

Or maybe I should just apply for a job at SoA. :-)

    Dennis,
You need to auto-x!!!! Come on down to E-town.

Ash - you're a lucky duck. Enjoy your time in Europe while you're there. Swiss Alps? I wish!

That's dangerous, Dennis. I've wanted one since I got the chance to drive Hutch's car.

Cool trip report, thanks. Glad to hear the GT look is growing on you. :)

I looked at http://www.subaru.ch/ (in French and German, neither of which I speak); doesn't look like they have a GT per se; it's called a "Limited" (I think). Swiss models have Contrôle automatique de l'assiette et antipatinage (Vehicle Dynamics Control), Assistance en côte (Hill Holder), and Boîte de réduction 2x5 vitesses (Dual Range).

Dennis, Your wife's got the track bug? That's cool.

..Mike (who occasionally drives his wife's GT)

Bring back the hill holder and the dual range! :-)

Subies are supposed to be a bit off center.

Michael and I went to the Miami Intl Auto Show this weekend...lots of nice concept cars,, an area for older cars, Million Dollar Alley, and tons of new production cars. Pics to follow (eventually). Naturally, we stopped at the Subie area...2 WRX sedans (blue and silver), A Legacy GT Limited sedan in the new silver color...that was nice, some outbacks, Forester, and Impreza OB Sport Wagon..pretty cool. Patti, there was a guy there from the Southeast Region that knows you and sends his regards; he said he worked with you in Customer Service...Mark Gitto. He had only good things to say about you; (otherwise, I would have taken a tire iron to his noggin !!) . Of course Michael had a great time...we saw a WRX in the parking lot with PA plates on it...a long way to go for an autoshow, unless the owner was one of the dreaded SNOWBIRDS.
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Yes, I do need to auto-x.
Also would like to get onto a track. I'll probably ask you some questions in Cape May.

Also they are building a road-course @ E-town this winter. Hopefully it will open in the spring. Mostly for club events. :)

A WRX with PA plates near the auto show? Maybe that was Omar's car! ;-)

Actually, I bet they work for SoA.

Mark is a great guy. I worked with him about 13 years ago. He's another "old timer". I'm glad you and Michael had fun at the show. Is Michael really bugging for that WRX now?

    Patti
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I'd think if they were SOA people they would have NJ plates.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It's close to the PA border though, right? I'm sure lots of SoA staff commute from PA.

I would guess that it was a visitor, because it was in the paying Parking lot as opposed to the staff one.
Yes Patti, he is a little pest.

I should have also mentioned how many old Justy's I saw in Switzerland. How old are those exactly?
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
Far as I know justys are still available in the european market.

    Cheers Pat.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
They're just crappy Suzukis with a Subaru logo. Stay away!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
They have unfortunately become a Swift clone.

    Bring on the HM-01!

Justy is made by Suzuki? I did not know that. Whose AWD?

    ..Mike

    ..Mike

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Does it even have AWD any more? I have a screen saver from Subaru of Australia, and that's the only eye sore.

Speaking of which, it's way outdated. It still has the older-look Forester and Impreza. Anyone have a link to the newer screen saver? Or should I keep it vintage since I own a '98?

Per the UK site, the Justy is AWD.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Wow, they don't even mention what type of engine it has. 6.1" of clearance and AWD don't make it a real Subie, though.

Bob: you'll love this - it's rated to tow 704 lbs. I bet Don's bikes add up to more than that. ;-)

    67hp 1.3 liter petrol.

    Car Magazine sez:

"Nearly pointless exercise in stretching brand values beyond their breaking point....a 4X4 version of the Swift built under license in Hungary. Who needs a 4X4 supermini, especially one this old? Don't bother.

TRIM LEVEL RECOMMENDATION: "Polo? Yaris? 206?"
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
I'm surprised that it's rated to tow anything! ;)

No question, the Justy has long outlived its usefulness. Anybody ever read UK's "CAR" magazine? In the back they have a section called "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly," in which they comment on every vehicle sold in England. The comments are often cruel and biting. Let's just say they don't care much for the Justy, and leave it at that...

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The "real" Justy was kind of cutting edge, at least for that size class. Remember the ECVT? Full time 4WD? Also, in one mag's snow test it had the 2nd best braking of a large bunch of cars, proving that Subies were breed for snow belt duty.

Oh, and the best braking in snow? Snow Vehicle Xtraordinaire (SVX), of course.

If you think the justy is ugly you should see some of the homely looking so called mini cars that are running around over there now.

The photos do not do them justice you have to see them in the flesh to believe how ugly they are.

When I visited my baby sister (RIP) last year she had just bought a new mini toyota I forget the model name but I honest to God would take the bus before I would be caught dead in it.

    Cheers Pat.

They sell tons of those vehicles in Europe. So, somebody must love them...

I hope I win! :-) If so I'll name our 2nd child Dave (if and when we have one).

    If it's a girl, a name with a K. Maybe Katarina.

I just remembered, I have a cousin nicknamed Kika (real name: Christina).

I heard from Don..He and Marianne are dong fine....here it is

<<< It's good to be home!

Marianne's surgery went well.... the surgeon said the chemotherapy is doing its job. As previously planned, Marianne will start chemotherapy again next week for another two-three times and then begin six weeks of daily radiation. This will be done here in Boynton Beach.

We are managing and in pretty good spirits. Marainne still gets tired easily and needs rest several times a day. We're told this may continue for another six months to a year.

We have our fingers crossed and aren't afraid to say a prayer or two.

Your interest is greatly appreciated and means a lot to both of us. It's wonderful how supportive the Subaru Crew is in matters other than vehicles!

    Thanks for being so thoughtful.

    Don>>>

Please keep Marianne in your thoughts for a speedy recovery

I went on a short vacation to Florida (hi, Serge and Don!). Flew over Wichita, KS (hi, Colin!) and changed planes in Atlanta (hi, Frank P.!). Now back in the Bay Area, tremendously enjoying my Forester, after 5 days in rental Malibu.

Who said AWD is not needed in Florida? I was driving in heavy rain, and that Malibu thing was all over the place. Tires (Firestone) were hydroplaning like crazy, and overall handling was so subpar, I really wished I was in my Forester.

Saw a horrible accident in FL: when rain started, an old Cherokee a few cars ahead of me lost control (when trying to change lanes on the curve) and flipped over, smashing the roof so badly, it looked like someone pressed the car for scrap metal. At least all of us behind him were able to stop in time, so it ended up being one-car accident, but still a horrible memory. And I thought Cherokees are sort of sturdy.

First Juice--my bikes together don't weigh 700 plus pounds! For the money spent be assured they're light weight.

I offer sincere thanks to all of you for your good thoughts and prayers. You guys are the best.

    Don
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I know they are light, I just figured you probably own a dozen bikes, like my other avid biking friend does. :-)

Welcome back, Kate. You missed the Ford Car-B-Q we had! Quick, go back a few posts and check it out.

is more than my XT6 and more than the SVX... Both of which are real subies. I'd take an AWD justy as a commuter car personally.

about another long lost soul, anything know what is going on with Bit.

He got on the boards to say he was back from vacation and the dropped off the face of the earth.

    Cheers Pat.

Re lots of tiny cars in europe, you got to remember that gas over there is around $6to$7 a gallon, thats why those micro cars are so popular.

To give you an example, we had a quadraplegic from Ottawa just completed driving around the world for spinal cord research.

He was giving an interview and said his most expensive fillup was in the UK. $ 340 canadian. his cheapest fillup was in Iran $7 canadian, now obviously he had extra tanks but $ 340 thats a lot for a fillup.

BTW. he drives a full size Chevy. Blazer, but you can see why the puddle jumpers are so popular.

    Cheers Pat.
