Well, I nailed it. The job interview went extremely well and he took me aside on the way out and told me I was his choice. It'll be a while before it's official, but I can breathe a sigh of relief!
Thanks for letting me vent a little and for all the moral support.
Notice the prevailing opinion, including mine, was that this driver was overconfident and underexperienced. Driving schools on an open track are a wonderful place to learn about your car and yourself and generally are quite safe when you follow directions and don't get competitive.
'unofficially' congratulating you juice. you must be releaved now.
Coming from my Chevy Z71, I too was stumped when I first used the power lock switch in our Outback. I thought it was just the angle of the switch causing confusion. But, 'up' on my truck opened the lock, 'down' locked it. Took some getting use to, but don't even notice it now.
I think it is fairly obvious that we all think the door lock switch is upside down. You might want to send that little notice to the right people. In the mean time, I guess we could turn the switch around.
That car crash must've been amazing. The passenger cell held up quite well.
Yard sale! Ok, I'll take the leather shift knob and maybe the rims.
Actually, I'm probably gonna buy rims from Jim, and I was thinking about keeping a steel rim and putting a full size spare tire on that. So I'd end up with alloys AND a full size spare.
The 205/60R15 tire should fit, right? 215/60R16 fits in Australia. Will I have to cut that foam thing, or remove it? Anyone done something similar?
See things almost always manage to work out for the best! Congratulations. I bet it was the 2 green Subaru luck charms! You should name our Wintergreen L LUCKY!
Colin, So that was not you? Didn't you go to Ohio State and tell me about www.Spoilersforless.com Same name, hmmm.... I can't believe it's not you! Heather
I got one for the Forester, from Darlene. Boy do I wish she were around.
What do you guys think, should I get a cargo liner? I do the Home Depot runs with Sandy, so the Legacy won't be doing much dirty work. Mostly strollers, kid duty.
How much do they run? The shift knob, too? Should I just check subaruparts.com and Subaru-parts.com?
Just heading back to the lake, but before I go congrats on the job.
Get the cargo liner I would not be without it now, I think they run around $50, Bit put a full size spare in his GT wagon and he had to get rid of the foam tray.
The se package on the Canadian Legacy L is an out and out bargain, I believe the package is $600 and gets you 16" GT rims, fog lights, body colour door handles, mirrors and moldings.
The GT rims alone are worth the asking price of $600, as the dealer price on the rims are $265 each.
Nope Heather, that really is someone else. Althought if I'm reminding you of someone else I'm glad it's in a good way and not "oh boy, not that guy again". ;-)
I went to Wichita State, not Ohio State, and I've never owned an OBS although I have had several automatics-- all musclecars. Most didn't even shift on their own. :-D
Time to go accessory shopping, then. Cargo liner and leather shift knob.
Will check Liberty as well as the other two, plus the local guys. I have a discount coupon for accessories that I can use, 10% off, plus no shipping of course.
a true roadster-- yep, they're wonderful in the right climate. but a convertible built upon on an existing coupe/sedan never delivers on performance like the original vehicle.
And get the cargo liner! This is something I love about the Outback already... no worries about what I toss in its cargo area. Nice! Especially since I tote gardening things on occasion.
The tale continues... Husband said last night, "If I am going to trade-in my Outbakc, then we better get what we want!" He is leaning towards a WRX wagon in WR Blue!!! He likes the disk brakes and Limited Slip Differntial and the side air bags. The "Safety features" over the OBS. I guess I can adapt and adjust to the turbo :>)!!! I may have either the OBS or WRX this weekend for my birthday. Wish me luck! Heather
Yeah, it was a chop job, but done entirely on a computer. I actually took an already chopped photo and chopped it further.
Maybe Subaru could shorten the wheelbase and lose the rear seats, even better. The top needs to fold for it to replace my Miata, though.
I'll host a photo for anyone that just wants to get a quick shot posted. Just e-mail me (it's in my profile).
Heather: since you're insisting on a 5 speed (be firm this time!), a WRX wagon would be just schweet. A test drive can't even begin to tell you how fun they are. I've driven one broken in, and when you really rev it up you can seriously embarass a lot of so-called sports cars.
Power builds linearly. zzzzZZZZING! Below 3000rpm it's a docile, refined commuter. Above that the power is unleashed and it becomes an absolute animal. That kind of fun is illegal in some countries.
Last night husband said he preferred the WRX over the OBS since the OBS has drum brakes in the rear and no limited slip. He was so sure he wanted the WRX wagon on the lot in WR Blue. I did not sleep a wink in excitement over my new WRX wagon! Then we looked at it this morning and he said he hates that color and thinks his Outback looks much better! He is making my brain hurt. I am so confused right now. I still prefer the OBS, but can not justify the $1,000 more in cost then his Outback wagon with many less features. His Outback only has 6,000 miles on it too!
If they had the WRX wagon in white without the short shifter, then that is what we would get today- but no one does here! I guess I can call them and ask them to get one in, but then my husband would change his mind again! Going crazy over here. Please help me decide on what to do! My heart says OBS- although she has no disk brakes in the rear and no limited slip and no side air bags and no MOMO wheel! Heather
Wow, Heather, your saga makes for some interesting reading to say the least.
I can't speak much from personal experience with those cars as I own a Forester. I post here on occasion but used to be a much more frequent poster to the Crew fora. I've driven a number of Legacy-based Outbacks including a VDC but have never driven an Impreza of any sort, WRX or OBS. I gather that it's the difference in handling brought on by the Impreza's shorter wheelbase that makes you favor it over the Legacy-based Outback. The WRX has a lot more in terms of content than the OBS - though one thing that OBS has and WRX doesn't is a rear 12V outlet. (There may be more but I can't think of them.) On the other hand the OBS uses unleaded regular while the WRX drinks premium.
It seems you and your husband should put your heads together and come up with a list of priorities for your next car, weighing it of course in favor of the wants and needs of the primary driver. The next step would be to drive a WRX wagon and an OBS equipped the way you'd want yours to be. Then weigh the pros and cons, including the financials, before you decide.
As for not being able to find a white WRX wagon the way you want it, I'm sure you or your dealer could locate one, even if it means having it brought in for you or even having to travel to pick it up.
You saga is good for sequal in print in 'DRIVE' Magazine. "Will Heather Outback ever get the OBS, or Hubby Green Bean foils her wish with a WRX? Stay tune for the next issue... " =D
Yes, but of course I wish for a WRX instead! My desire for the OBS was financial, but yes- I'd prefer the WRX in white.
The OBS also has the outside temp. gauge that the WRX does not have. I like that.
My desire for the OBS is also based on the fact it would be ALL MINE. My husband would take over the WRX and I'd be left with the Bean again!
I think the best thing to do is wait a year and see what options the OBS has then. 2004 models come out in 14 months and 2003 models in 2 months. Then we will know for sure if we hate the automatic. If we both decide we do, then it's bye bye Green Bean and the Outback will be piad-off and I can get whatever I want. He likes his Sapphire Blue Outback a lot and that's a huge part of the problem. Who knew getting rid of my OBS would have this snowball effect- but it did!
If I can heal my heart there would be no problem here. Damn little car was my friend I think. I think I need a cheaper hobby. After hours of Elmo and Barney and diapers, etc. I feel a need for adult time and to me that's a car. I think I subscribe to too many auto magazines. Maybe I should get Parent magazines and soccer mom friends, then issue resolved. Yes, it's like a Soap Oprea I guess. I confess I am obsessed with Subbaru's! My brain is beginning to ache a bit... Heather
Those parent magazines are filled with Outback advertisements. And trust me, nothing looks better than my OB in the sea of SUVs at the soccer field with the gate up as we unload soccer balls, folding chairs, blankets, drinks, athletic bags, etc.
Heather - IMHO, rear brakes and an LSD should not even come into the decision making process. The rear drums are great for most people. The front brakes do the majority of braking anyway.
As for the LSD, odds are probably slim that you would ever encounter a situation where you would actually need it. All Sube AWD systems react very quickly.
The main reason I'll likely be trading in my '97 OBS for a WRX is 227 h.p.
Good luck, Dennis
P.S. - Like Ed said (hey that rhymes), the dealer can do a search for you for a particular color. Or you can check inventory in your area through subaru.com or call 1800Subaru3
Speaking of soccer balls, I showed up at my 12 year old cousin's soccer practice the other day with two old Umbro leather balls that were probably 10-15 years old.
Almost all of the girls had never seen a leather ball before. They liked 'em a lot, good feel, good control.

Colin had a 2.5RS with manual, coil-over suspension, and street cams from Cobb tuning.
Just kidding!
