Thanks for the info..$179 is crazy for just the adaptor!! I might go with a FM modulator
changer with a small remote but am not sure yet. I dont know if I like haviing a remote in the truck but I can get a 12 disc changer for the same price as the Mopar 6 disc. Where do
    you have yours mounted??

There are only tie downs in each of the corners. Short of adding hooks on the outside of the bed what other options are there to hold loads? My idea is to have a cable with eyelets every foot and connect it from the hold downs. Your thoughts.
  • ahasherahasher Member Posts: 236
martink98, If you need tie downs for the QC and dont want to drill holes, i found a perfect solution. I have ordered Truck Bed Tie Downs from www.extang.com (no e-commerce, you need to call). They have the perfect cleat configuration. It clamps to the bedrail (NO DRILLING) and is $34.95 per set. Made of polymer combo so it wont rust. The official name is "Cargo Cleats". Hope this helps. and BTW, I have their soft tonneau, and the cleats clamp perfectly inside the tonneau rails. Good Luck

You can buy a nice, heavy duty rubber floor mat for both front and back from Wal-mart. I think I paid $19.99 for the front and $14.99 for the back. I have had them almost a year and they are holding up just fine. You can buy some super-duper ones from various sources and they run $65 and up, but for $35, Wal-mart was hard to beat.

well... I don't actully have it in yet. It's sitting on my pile of "things to do to the truck when I have time/weather improves" along with my roof rack, brush guard and lights,CB, ect. I got the Mopar console install kit to put it in there (one of these days I really should at least open the box and look at it...)

I'm expecting delivery of my 4X4 black 4.7 manual CC ANY DAY. I remember someone discussing Brush guards in this forum, but my "mark" is gone. Anyway, I like the way the DC aftermarket product looks, but it is $500! Does anyone know of a comparable setup for less money?
Also, I was quoted $480 by the local Line-X guy for over the rail lining (the Rhino guy never returned my call). Does this price seem high?
One last thing, has anyone put in different lenses/bulbs in the fog light housing. Mine is coming with the lights, but I heard that they're rather week. Thanks.

Doug, we have the Manik bars (my Dakota and my bride's SUV) and they are very strong and heavy. One place to get them is Quadratec. In black they ran $359.95, but a local outfit matched the price, so we purchased them locally. The toll free number for Quadratec is (800)745-6109. The web site is http://www.quadratec.com. We are very pleased with them, and we heard about them via this forum.

edpatruck, I've been looking for a molded back seat mat for the quad. Did the one you see cover the foot wells only or go up under the seat area? Where did you see it? Thanks for any info you can give me. 2nddak

I have the fog lights on my truck.
They are good for illuminating the area directly in front and to the sides of the truck.
Good when turning into a driveway off of a dark road.
Have not had an opportunity to use them in fog yet.
They are not driving lights, too weak for that application, at least for me that is.
  • tuvtesttuvtest Member Posts: 237
I have looked into higher power bulbs and found that the ones used in the Dodge fog lights (ram, dak, durango) are proprietary. No after market company offers replacements. the dodge bulbs are rated a mere 37.5 watts each. Your only upgrade at this time is to replace the entire light assembly.

I just had a Line-X over the rail liner put in. The price quote I got directly from the Line-X guy was approx. $400. I also asked the dealer how much it would cost if they took care of it for me before I took delivery of the truck. The dealer price was $430. I live in Raleigh, NC. I don't know how much prices vary but $480 does seem high to me.
  • edpatruckedpatruck Member Posts: 12
I forgot to say that the Line-X liner looks GREAT! I haven't carried anything in the truck bed yet, but have gotten several comments on the way it looks. I am very happy with it - truly a professional installation job. I would recommend the Line-X guy in Raleigh.

There is a MOPAR part called "Quad Cab Rear Cargo Tray." It is described as a Rubber tray with 2" walls. See www.wyckoff-mopar-parts.com/quadcabrearc.html for $92.70 (and that's a sale price!). I decided to look for cheaper option.

At AutoAcessories.com I also found two potentials. The first is a "Catch-All Floor Liner - 2nd Seat Area" piece that is a one-piece carpeted item with lip. I'm not sure that this one is available for the Quad Cab. Price is $59.95. The second is "Husky Rear Seat Liner" it is a one-piece rubber tray wtih lip. This one IS available for Quad Cab. Price is $59.95. See www. autoaccessory.com.

Finally, I found "Custom Fit Floor & Cargo Guards 'Husky Tough"' at www.premiermotoring.net. This is a two-piecer that overlaps in the center. Price is $64.90.

    Hope this helps!

Does any one know of a custom subwoofer designed to fit under the back seat on the quad cab? MTX makes one, but only for the club cab. It is molded to fit in the cargo trays.

Does any one know when dodge will come oout with the light bar/bedrail combo for the Dakota quad cab? They offer it on the club cab, but not the quad. I think it would look great on the quad. Any opinions on that?

I have a club cab, and would like to know where you can get the sub for under the back seat of the CC. Also if anyone knows how you would install an external power amp for the sub using the factory head unit?

The custom sub that you are looking for can be found through www.crutchfield.com. It has a built in amp also.

For those interested in Soft Tonneaus

I finally received my Extang - Tough Tonneau III (Extang) for my Quad, after waiting 4 1/2 months. Manufacturing was discontinued late Aug (when I ordered it), to resolve a reliability issue with their rear corners. This models' rear corners allows one to lift up the rear tonneau crossbar prior to opening the tailgate. This feature prevents scratching the tailgate top. The new corner appears stout enough. Also the rear crossbar is easily removed by raising it an additional 30 degrees or so.

Another thing I liked was that the Tough Tonneau contains 3 mounting clamps per side and uses three arched crossbars- whereas their Saber model contains only 2 for the Quad.

I hope to install it when the weather warms and most of the salt is gone.

For the info on lights/guards and Line-X. I just talked to the dealer, and he stated the my truck now won't ship until 1/25/01, and it was ordered 12/4/00. To be delivered 2/01! He stated that is due to holiday shutdown, but I figure they forgot to order it. My family wants to move out, to get away from my sniveling! I'll miss 'em.
This will give me time to work OT to buy aftermarket bits for my truck.

Here is a pic of the cargo mat in my Quad. It's great. I bought Husky liners for the front.

I added Catz MSC round 3.5" dia yellow fog lights (55W bulbs) after I had the truck ('00 QC) for a couple months. These really work nice and I have them tied into the main light switch so I can't leave them on by mistake.

The dealer cut out the fog light holes in the valance for free. It took two days to fabricate a suitable mounting surface that was solid, recessed enough and angled properly for the right fit. Then I had to find a route to pull the wire into the cab to a "Catz" on / off button.

I'm not claiming to be an expert craftsman but its probably better if you're a "McQuiver" type if you are think of going this route. Although it sounds hard the results are great. Real yellow fog lights and in humid south central PA, I have to frequently contend with fog and deer.

I own a 2001 quad cab with the t&h package.
Those big tires sure spray a lot of slush on the truck during the winter.
It packs the corners of the rear bumper full of this slush and ice.

Has anyone put mudflaps on their truck? If so, what brand did you go with.
    thanks.
  • steve234steve234 Member Posts: 460
I had the mopar flaps put on when I bought my 01. The look great and was cheaper than Wal-mart. I also like the ram's head.
  • stnickstnick Member Posts: 177
I also,as Steve, have the Mopar formed flaps, made the dealer throw them in when I got the truck. Look good and do a fair job holding back the slop. Stnick

I have the $13 flexible rubber ones on my '00. Went with the flexible because I had bad experiences with a '98 Dodge Stratus that had the formed / shaped flaps (until this fall when my eldest son totalled it). Granted, the QC sits higher but when I would back the Stratus into parking spots with / without piles of snow, these formed type mud flaps would get popped off and left behind.

I'd rather leave the $13 variety behind versus the $40+ type.
  • bobs5bobs5 Member Posts: 557
Thank you all for the responses.

I believe that a flexible type of mud flap would suit my needs best. My concern would be that when going off road, a rigid type might break and fall off.

Mopar flaps are formed and not flexible. Is this correct?

spike50 - The mud flaps you chose sound like the type I would like to go with. Flexible.
Was this a mopar part or an aftermarket part. Would you please post the manufacturer and part number. Thank you.

When installing the flaps, does this require drilling into the truck, or do they bolt in place with existing holes?
  • steve234steve234 Member Posts: 460
The ones I have are the flexible ones available from your dealer. They are normally $13/pr and have a ram's head logo on them (available in the color of your choice). They have to be screwed into place, but that is normal for any make.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice so far! I decided to go with an
aftermarket changer in my 2001 Dak CC. Originally I was going to get an RF
model but have been thinking about ordering the truck with the cheap radio
and then install a new head unit matching the changer so I can have it hooked
up direct. I went to a stereo shop and they said for $95 they would install everything.
Does that sound reasonable?? The only drawback is that I will only get 4 speakers
instead of 8....Is it hard/expensive to put on aftermarket speakers later??

I have the in-dash CD w/ changer controls and want to add a changer under the driver's rear seat backrest in my Quad. Any idea on Alpine vs. Mopar, vs. whoever else will work? I'll go with whoever is the cheapest, unless there's a considerable difference in ease of installation. Who's done a changer, which did you pick and why?

The headunit install is a breeze with the right equipment and knowledge. I bought my dash kit at store.autotoys.com for about $15. You can probably get the kit locally, just ask for a kit for a 98+ Intrepid. The 2001 is totally different than the 2000. I bought my wiring harness at Walmart for about $5. Each wire was labelled, making it easy to match up the wiring to the new headunit's harness. Check my profile for some pics of my install. The changer is a little more work. I think there was a previous post on the fact that the 8-speaker system is not really eight speakers, but they counted a single two-way speaker as two speakers. Someone with the "8 speaker" system can confirm. I'm now up to 6 real speakers, as I replaced the fronts with components. I've got tweeters in the door sails (need to update the site with pics). The changer may be a little more involved, depending on how you mount it. If you like to do that kind of stuff, I'd highly recommend you do it yourself. Then you've got $95 to spend on CDs.

    OHC BABY
I'm not sure on installing the CD changer under the back seat. I felt the room was very limited there, but I may be more limited due to my cargo tray. Anyway, you can buy the MOPAR changer, or there are aftermarket changers that will plug into the factory head unit. I wouldn't think either would be any different as far as ease of installation. There were posts on this before, but since we can't search these posts, I can't find them. Here are a couple of links:

Mopar changer (6 disc, plus $30 install kit, plus S&H): http://shop.store.yahoo.com/wyckoff-chrysler-parts/6discdchanan.html

Aftermarket changer (10 disc, free shipping) : http://store.autotoys.com/cgi-bin/wfp53024.storefront/EN/Product/OEMCHRYSLER10

Some good news. The Alpine vs. Mopar question is moot. the Mopar changer is an Alpine. The price is competitive at $300ish. Unfortunately, the Mopar one is the only one that will plug directly into the back of the factory radio and interface with the factory controls. All others need some kind of adaptor. The FM modulator option is available cheap, but then you are stuck with using a remote supplied with whatever changer you buy. The adaptor to plug an aftermarket changer into the factory radio runs about $179! (Just the adaptor!). IMHO the Mopar is the way to go if you can get by with just 6 discs, in fat that's what I bought. Now I just need to find the time to do something with it. It's still sitting on the pile of "things I need to do to the truck" awaiting time/better weather.

Thanks for the info on the Changer. All the local dealers want list for the unit, but I spoke to Jim at El Dorado Chrysler (eldoradochrysler) and he beat everyone by $55, so I guess I've found my changer. He also mentioned that it's listed as installing under the front seat. I'll put it in the back regardless, but is there really room upfront? Thanks for the help, tutvest.

that seems pretty big...You think that will fit in the console??

my changer is (WxHxD): 10-1/8" x 3-11/16" x 6-3/4", I'd have to go out and measure my console to be able to tell you for sure how big the console is, but I think it will fit, but you would have to get rid of the power outlet in the console. I relocated my poweroutlet so that it sticks out the back of the console for the backseat passengers.

    tutvest
where do you see a $179 adapter? autotoys has the whole kit for $245. It includes the changer, adapter, and free shipping. You also get an additional 4 discs (6 disc vs 10 disc). Granted it won't be covered under the MOPAR warranty. I've spent over $1,000 with autotoys in the past couple of years putting CD players/changer and minidisc players in my last two vehicles. They handle all their customer service over the net, but they are about the cheapest I found anywhere.

My Pioneer CD (CDX-P1250) changer is a 12 disc (small enougth to fit in the console, plus it has features like CDTEXT, CD Title memory, etc. It's on closout for $186!!! MSRP for it's replacement CDX-P1270 is $255, so it should have a street price of about $200 or so. Of course you need a pioneer headunit these models, but in my opinion that's the way to go anyway.

I e-mailed them to see if the dimensions were correct...Maybe Ill try and measure
a console at a dealer..Ive been trying to find out the dimensions online but cant
find anything. If the dimensions are right then its pretty big even if it fit width-wise
Im not sure if the lid will close..

I checked with my local high end audio dealer.(as opposed to the best buy level stores) and he supplied me with the adaptor info which I verified on the web. This adaptor allows the factory controls/plug to be used in conjunction with an aftermarket changer. I cannot remember the company's name as after seeing the price, I tossed the info. I've already purchased the Mopar changer/install kit, but for future reference, does the system you are talking about use the factory controls/plug as well or is it a FM modulator type?
  • tuvtesttuvtest Member Posts: 237
I just went to the autotoys site and followed through to the oem page and found the system I think you are referring to. the only problem is this quote
"Compatible with new oval face radios. Nit compatible with 2000+ in dash cd radios"

Now I think "nit" is supposed to be "not", but, the unit I have is the cd/radio. That is (along with the cd/cass/radio) also the only way to get the on radio cd controls. So their description leads me to think that it won't work with our factory units. I may be wrong, you've actully installed your changer and mine's just sitting, boxed,in the garage, so I will take your word on it.
  • victxvictx Member Posts: 108
I have not installed the changer that works with the OEM head unit. I have a Pioneer headunit & Pioneer CD changer. I'd email them to confirm before you buy so that you can be sure it will work with the existing changer. If the system includes an adapter to plug into the OEM headunit, it shouldn't be FM modulated, otherwise the adapter would not be specific to the application.

    triple...
I'll try and remember to measure my console tomorrow morning.
  • victxvictx Member Posts: 108
my console opening is approx 4 3/4" wide by 13 1/2" long. The console is about 8 1/2" deep.

I installed a mopar changer in the truck yesterday (P/N 82202700) and the 15-ft cable (P/N 822300930). I've left the rear seat out of the Quad and the cable's still plugged in at the head unit. When I connect the changer at the rear, my odometer flashes 'No bUs' and all the gauges go dead. The changer also makes some funky noises. When I disconnect the changer the dash chimes and the gauges go back to normal. My dealer is totally worthless and doesn't know what to do. Someone give me some options here, please.
  • ayrowayrow Member Posts: 99
    Yikes!

It sounds like you either have a bad changer, the wrong changer for your head unit, or a short in the wiring if there is any.

I ordered a 2001 QC about three weeks ago. Got the premium Infinity sound system with everything except the Changer unit. Thought I would add it later.
I hope that I don't the same problems that you desribe.

    What should you do?

I wouldn't try the dealer. I would try Circuit City or some other audio dealer. They usually know more about the sound systems in cars than the dealers do.

    Good Luck.
