Sorry Mark, it be gone. e-bay got the best of me. There are a number of places that sell them (for less than the e-bay guy paid, but who am I to argue). Try www.truckperformance.com for the AirAid setup.

    Thanks Crit.
Figured it was long gone after so many months, but it was worth a try. K&N actually does have the GEN II for my '97 Wrangler, as does Turbo City. Turbo City, www.turbocity.com, also has a 4.7 intake in the works, or almost ready.

i got my service manual for my 2001 quadcab today & its a big aqua book = bab !!!!!!!

Ok, I got a bug guard for my 2001 QC. It comes in three pieces. One for the center, and two for the fenders (over the headlights). You guys know what I mean.

    So here is my question:

Do you think it looks better not having the pieces over the headlights? I put the center piece on to stop the bugs from coming at me and it looks pretty good.
I just can't decide if I really should put the other two pieces on.

Thought I'd see what everybody else prefers.

Been following discussions a long time while shopping for THE TRUCK. Finally made the leap, 01 SLT+ 2WD 4.7, auto, forest green. Dealer demo with just about everything I would have ordered but price was too good to pass and made the "one who must be pleased" (wife) OK with the purchase. I'm an analog guy in a digital world so bear with me for any breaches of chat etiquette.

Anyway, since it's 2wd, truck does not have fender flares - I found a couple of posts about ordering them from dealer but would appreciate info from anyone with recent experience. Also as I look at the exposed radiator below the grill it seems as if some sort of protection in the bumper hole might be in order - anyone done this. A collective thanks to all of you for the great info shared here. Czar

    Is it the LEER LT2000?

Anyone have either the Mopar or LEER LT2000 cover, and if so, what do you think about it? Any 2nd thoughts? Is the A.R.E. LSII that much a better cover?

If you have a dealer installed Mopar cover, how much did it cost to have it installed (my dealer wants $875...if installed by a 3rd party, how much for the LEER LT2000?)

Oh, BTW, anyone have your dealer install the roof rack, Deluxe Tubular Brush Guard (Body-Color), or Molded Side Steps (#'s 2, 7, and 10a in the Dodge Truck Accesory Catalog), and how much did you pay, for each install?

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

Tod, since you bought the whole shootin' match, then go ahead and install all three sections. They are there for hood protection anyway. I've seen Dodges with both bug shield configurations and I really don't think one looks any better than the other. With all the mods on your truck, the bug shields should look especially nice on your ride.

If you are in the market for a lid I would suggest that instead of the fiberglass ones which from the ones I have seen have problems breaking around the hinge, try the GT Classic by GEM. It is steel, fits flush, looks good and seal tight. Price is around 700. Got one on Club Cab # 1 and will put one on Club Cab #2.

Steel may be a option for me, but interested to know if the Mopar single piece fiberglass tonneau cover for the QC is actually made by and is the:

    LEER LT2000?

    Thanks

(one local dealer said the older Leer covers had quite a few problems and they no longer sell them...of course they could be pushing the A.R.E. LSII)

I have a 2001 CC with the Infinity system and want to upgrade the speakers. I dont have much experience in changing out speakers but am mechanically inclined so I think I can do it myself. My question is about the little speakers on the top of the doors. If I get a good set of door speakers do I need them too?? Ive been looking around and cant find any that will replace them.
    Thanks

I've posted the following on the DML:

For those who have changed tire sizes and want to correct your speedo,

I have found two products that can help. I was wondering if there are

other DML'ers who may be interested. If so, I'll inquire about getting

some Group Buy prices. Shoot me an off-list email (carrola@texas.net)

if you are interested, that way I can keep track of who and how many.

The TrueSpeed Speed Sensor Calibrator from Super lift is priced at $163

        http://www.rockymountainsusp.com/dodge.htm

The Electronic Ratio Adapter from Abbott Enterprises is $145

Dakota Digital offers a unit to re-calibrate the speed. It installs incline from the speed sensor at the rear differential to the cm. Price should be &79.00 I intend to install one sometime soon but just had a baby and time is now scant. I have a 2wd Dakota quad with 3" body lift and 32.115 tires. The dealer can make correction with flash program but at $85.00 per I would rather be able the do it myself. Just in case I change tires again. (another 3" lift via fabtech is in the future)
  • hennehenne Member Posts: 407
what kind of 3" body lift did you get? who installed it? are you happy with it? any and lots of info would be greatly apreciated.

If I recall correctly, you posted that you installed a trailer hitch that is concealed behind your bumper and only the hitch receptacle part is exposed. If so, what brand is it? I need to get one for my quad and would prefer one that does not hang down across the back.

Any other inputs would be welcome.

    Thanks - Keith

I think I found the product you are referring to. One downside is that this product is not for use on vehicles equiped wtih anti-lock brakes. But for those of you without ABS, this unit is much cheaper than the other units I have found so far. http://www.dakotadigital.com/products/interface.htm

BTW, the dealer cannot correct your speedo to 32" tires. The '01 PCM is only pre-programed with three tire sizes (the three sizes that Dakota's can come with from the factory). My '01 4x4 came with 265/70/16s (31"), so when I went to 32" tires, they could couldn't get any closer to correcting the speedometer/odometer.

Nortx01qc - I got a Reese hidden hitch, the only thing you see from behind the truck is the receiver tube, the rest of the hitch is hidden up in the frame.

I purchased my 3" body lift from 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers. Paid $199.00. J.C. Whitney lists it for $166.00. Manufacturer is performance auto accessories. The entire job took me about 6 hours (working by myself) although I do have a well stocked garage with tools making it easier. The only problem was lenghing the lower radiator hose. I had to make my own extension pipe. I spoke with the manufacturer and found out the prototype truck did not have the heavy duty cooling option so now all of their kits will include the extension. I made my own "lift lips" wich close off the gap between the frame and bed behind the rear wheels but thy can be purchased if you wish. I installed westin nerf bars to hide the frame wich would be otherwise visible from the side as the case with all body lifts. I found that by reversing the mounting hardware and elongating the hole for the front mount the bars bolted up tight to the new body height and looks like they belong there. I now have a 2wd with 32.115 tires on the stock rims and have no problems with clearance ( or high water fro that matter).

Does anyone have this cover with the sport wing?

How much extra was the sport wing?

Did they strengthen the lift assembly to make up for the extra weight (probably about 30lbs, right?)

Thoughts on what the wing does to gas mileage, traction, and grip (expecially for those red light fast take offs)

I'm waiting for a AWD QC, I know some extra weight over the rear axle is a good thing, just wondering what benefits for traction/grip may or may not come into play on a AWD QC.

    Thanks.
  • biglucybiglucy Member Posts: 140
Steve - I'd really like to see some pictures of your body lift job, can you post some?

Paul - I looked into getting the LSII with the Sport Wing about a month ago. I called my favorite Truck Accessory shop. The price was around $1100!! That included factory matched paint and installation. The LSII costs around $699. The Sport Wing will run you about $250, maybe cheaper if you don't get it with matching paint. I also asked everyone to contribute to my BigLucy fund so I could afford it, but noone sent me any money yet!

Anybody know where to get diamond plate bed rail covers? Saw them on a black QC on the Long Island Expressway the other day but we were going 70mph so couldnt ask the driver where he found them. Have the Mopar plastic bedliner which does not go up over the rails. Thanks!

Does anyone know of a one piece rubber/plastic rear floor mat for a Dakota Quad Cab that covers the floor and under the rear seats? I want to able to lift the seats and carry stuff without worrying about getting the carpet dirty.

    Thanks
  • james_buchananjames_buchanan Member Posts: 6
It appears as though there is a one-piece rubber floor mat available through Mopar. Got this information from their Web site (www.mopar.com):

    Cargo Area Tray, Molded
    Part #: 82205245

Durable Cargo Area Trays protect against spills, dirt, grease and grime. Molded from Agate colored flexible, skid resistant rubber, these trays help prevent the cargo from moving about as you drive. They are custom molded to fit the exact contours of the rear seat cargo space, yet remove and install in seconds for easy cleaning.

to a product that fits into a hitch receiver and extends to help carry longer items such as lumber, ladders, etc.

(it may have been called hitch hand or hitch helper)
  • snowedinsnowedin Member Posts: 58
i'm not sure if ths is what you are looking for but this page has the rear floor tray and i believe it is less expensive than Mopar's

I have a question on tongue weight, I think. I don't know much about this kind of stuff. I have a 2001 QC with heavy duty service group, tow package, etc. I would like to carry an ATV with it. I think putting it in the back may be a little tight, especially trying to get it in there in the wintertime up here in the northland.

I'm looking at a Tiltarack which can be used for that purpose. It attaches to the receiver hitch. The company that sells them recommends a 2" frame-mounted, class 4 or greater, 1000 lb. tounge wt. rated receiver hitch, on a 1/2 ton or larger vehicle. I have the class 4 hitch, but does the Dakota have a 1,000 lb tongue weight? I'm wondering if this would be too much weight. My ATV weighs about 1100 lbs.

    Thanks for any input,

    Mac

Brian, I just purchased a cross bar carrier that plugs into a class III or IV receiver from Harbor Freight http:/www.harborfreight.com. It was on a half price sale, and I paid $19.99. The item number is 39168. The numbers and/or letters following the stock number determine the price, and they are not on my invoice, and that particular catalog is in the garage at our beach house. The toll free number is (800) 423-2567. I have been dealing with them for years, and have been happy with my purchases. But the one thing is that one often sees the same item (stock number) in the catalog at two different prices. They will send you a catalog. If you order $50.00 worth of merchandise, shipping is free. Sometimes I receive "Free Freight" coupons. There is always a $4.95 handing fee per order. Most of my air tools came from there, and they all work well.

Hi gang its been a while since I've posted. The Quad is running fine, 00/4.7/auto/4x4 20,000 miles. I will be taking it in soon to get a few things taken care of; oil filler tube fix, pop in front end when making sharp turns over bumps and a ocassional idle problem at start up. Glad its finally getting warmer so that my gas mileage will get better. I'm back to 16.5 after running in the 14's in the winter.
Now finally to my question. I'm considering adding a Westin Safari Bar and would like know if anyone can tell me how far it extends past the bumper. It's a tight fit in the garage. Also, does anyone have any suggestions on adding a transmission cooler? The family and I will be making our yearly visit the Outer Banks soon and will spending a lot of time in 4x4/lo mode in some deep sand. I thought a cooler would be good idea.

    Thanks, Scott

I have the Safari bar on my quad, It sticks out about 4"or5" in front of the bumper, If you are going to install, be patient, it is a very tight fit to get it mounted.

Hey Victx, I noticed in a recent post you mentioned that the 01' dakota can't be re-calibrated to 32" tires. Just wondering if the same is true for my 00' 4x4/4.7/auto/3.92diff. I am running 32X11.50 BFG Mud-Terrains on 15X8 aftermarket wheels. Just recently added the tires and haven't looked into my options yet, but would like to get the speedo accurate. Also, do you know exactly how off the speedo is before having it re-calibrated? Thanks for all the helpful posts everyone.

I just picked up the Leer 100XQ for my "01 QC. Really like the looks of it, but the tailgate won't shut without losing the tailgate protector. Will call the installer tomorrow. Boy am I steamed. Should have checked it before I left there.

Have a new QC coming and would like to be able to carry 2 bicycles (with front wheels removed)in the bed, and also my luggage, fishing tackle, and golf clubs. I'll have either a folding or roll-up tonneau cover also. I'm wondering about building a plywood platform for the bed that would allow me to put most stuff beneath it, then lay my garment bag, briefcase, small suitcase, etc. on top, and still have the tonneau cover shut.

Does the QC have a ledge built in to the bedside to hold a platform like this? How deep is the bed from floor to tonneau cover? I'm thinking a 2-piece plywood deck, so that one piece could store on top of the other, hopefully supported by ledges on the inside of the bed, if there are any. Would also be able to turn them 90 degrees and lay them flat on the floor when necessary.
Has anybody else already engineered this for me?

Any suggestions which style of tonneau would work best for this?

Thanks in advance for your ideas. This message board has been a GREAT help to me!
  • namfflownamfflow Member Posts: 202
The bed had recesses built in that will accept 2 X 6s so a platform can easily be made. The depth of the bed is about 17"

The only Tonneau I can recomend is the GEM GT Classic. This is a cover made from steel, lined, sits flush, looks good and bike racks are an option that can be mounted right on the lid. It also doesn't leak at all. I have had one on my 97 for several years. no problems at all.

The '01should be the same as the '00 in respect to how the speedo can be corrected. There are two products I found that can adjust the electronic pulse coming from the rear axle to compensate for bigger/smaller tires. Since I have 4 wheel ABS, I can't use these products because the ABS speed sensors at each wheel will be uncorrected, while the speedo speed sensors will be corrected. I had talked to one of the reps for Abbott Industries and they said the ir product wouldn't work on a newer RAM with 4 wheel ABS, but does work on the 2 wheel ABS. So if you don't have 4 wheel ABS, this could be an option for you. My posting with more info on the Adapters and links should be in the Quad Cab list.

My speedo is off about 3%, check out this webpage for a cool tire calculator.

Here in PA, new or old, all vehicles get a safety inspection once a year. Well my '00 QC is now 1 yr old and during its inspection I found out that the non-factory foglights are illegal and have to come off. I have yellow Catz MSC's "looking" through the standard valance holes and apparently these lights don't have a federal DOT designation. The other requirement is that the foglights "only" work with the parking lights and/or low beams. Probably the best solution would have been to get the factory fogs and then add a yellow after market bulb.

Only four bolts and four wire connections and they are off. Learn form other's mistakes.
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Don, it seems that your inspection station is pretty nit picking as the PA inspection process is to assure that vehicles are safe and that they do not present a danger to the operator, other vehicles or pedestrians. While they are probably correct, it seems to be a chicken ---- call. I remember how much work and research went into that project, and that the original intent was to elevate the peripheral lighting to be able to spot
deer and other animals to avoid hitting them.

    Anyone have a fold-a-cover tonneau?

If so, how do you like it, any problems with leaks, etc.

    Thank you,

    Bob
  • gsx750fgsx750f Member Posts: 32
Bob, I installed a fold-a-cover about year ago. It took about about 3-4 hours but was pretty straight forward. I did add a 3/4" thick foam gasket to the front and rear to keep it water tight. The only problem I've had is when I took it off one day and leaned it against the garage wall, hinge side down, and it folded and hit the lock. The plastic thing that holds the lock cracked. I just need to old a new piece.

As a side note, just installed Westin Safari bar. Looks great. In process of finding some lights. I'm considering a set of Hell 500's.
