    Todd,
    Thank you for the information.
That sure is a lot of $$$ for a cap.
Is that the base price for the 100XQ Leer cap?
If you would, could you give me a breakdown of the price, such as base shell price, then accessories?
    Thank you,
    Bob

    BOB,

I have the advance brand, 2 piece folding cover.

Took 3 hrs to install, really a nice unit. It locks to the front of the bed & to the tailgate.

looks good, easy to use & comes off by loosening 2 bolts.

The cover has 2 latches that must be riveted to the front and rear of the bed. Each latch requires 2 holes, 4 holes total. Also, the cover rest on rails that are attached to the side rails of the bed which must be riveted down it 2 places on each side. I avoided doing this as long as possible but the adhesive tape gave up after 6 months.
I've seen many Quads in the SW Ohio area but have yet to see another one with the same cover.

On a different note,I would like to add a transmission cooler. Can any one tell me which line on the transmission is which, in/out.

Anyone know where I can get the 16 inch wheels available for the 2001 model? I have a 99 Dakota sport club cab with the 15 wheels, but I want the upgrade.
I would also be interested in used (great shape) wheels if any are available.

please e-mail me the info. My address is in my profile.

    thanks,

Todd, What model is your dakota? It may not make much difference in price but if you have a full size bed (as opposed to the quad cab bed) my wife may not pass out when I tell her that I want to spend a grand or so on a cap. Also, what Bob said.
    Thanks.

I have the quad cab. The leer looks the nicest I think, but $1399 is the going rate around here. One other note on this topper. I got a bed extender at Fleet Farm, like the one shown in the Dakota literature. With the design of the Leer cap, it won't work. The sides are wider on the cap, so it won't flip over.

If you are interested in the Leer topper check out ALL the dealers in a reasonable distance from your home. I found that by pricing by phone I could save over $200 by driving 150+ miles to a dealer who was willing to discount. I ordered the topper, got a phone call about 2 weeks later that it was in and went to pick it up the next day. The Leer topper also included a plastic piece that install on top of the tailgate to form a water resistant barrier. The dealer also allowed me to order whatever additional options I desired at his cost. All in all a very rewarding deal. I got the front slider, the clothes bar and the pieces that mount on top that allow you to install a Yakima rack. With all my accessories and tax the price was just a few dollars over $1300. Also as an aside the paint was a perfect match of my Quads Light Driftwood Satin Glow. Rick
PS I noticed someone also asked if holes had to be drilled. NO HOLES required. There are j shaped hooks integral with the cap that hook under the lip of the bed and secure with no damage to the paint.

Just as another option, I went with a Stockland cap, painted, slider, boot, carpet was free in month of march, (100 otherwise) dual rubber runners that do away with the foam tape for the cap to bed seal, interior light and 3rd brake light wired in, ( interior light can be had as battery powered also) installed with 4 J clamps for 900.00. Does not leak and I am happy with it.
Oh, I have an 01' Quad cab.

bnc, thank you for sharing the information.
That price is the best I've seen so far.
The nearest Stockland dealer from me is 190 miles away. A little bit far, but an option none the less. Make a day trip out of it, if I go that route.

I got a price quote on a Jeraco cap. $919 base price for matching painted cap. Then add accessories.

Just received LUNDs Exterminator 3 piece Bug Deflector kit for my new 2001 DAK QC.

The center piece install looks pretty straight forward: just loosen the grill mounting nuts and support screws from the top part of the grill. One quesiton: looks like there is some kind of addhesive or thin foam padding between the grill and the hood, is this right?

For the 'fender eyebrows' or two separate pieces, I'm a little more hesitant to start taking pieces off of my new truck with less then 200 miles...this install calls for removing the weather stripping...do you actually have to break the T-bar rubber piece off of the retainer clip, or is it the plastic fasteners you have to pop out?

stnick, I believe you have the 3 piece setup, is it also a LUND and if so, your install went ok and you like the fit and finish..no 2nd thought?

    Thanks.

Hi Paul, I will try to answer you questions, But I put mine on almost a year ago. If you have the same kit I have. Mine is called the Interceptor part # 18043 or 18143, kit # 41618. That is what is printed on the paperwork I dug out. The center part attached to the grill by adhesive tape only, no mention of loosening any hardware. I believe on the fender brows ,you remove 3 or 4 of the plastic pop clips from the rubber and line up the 2 holes in the brows then reinstall the pop clips you took out. Then remove paper strips from adhesive pads and stick. Be VERY sure they are aligned properly first. Once they are stuck, they stay. Please check clearance of hood when opening hood so as not to catch on fender brows. Also clean surfaces with rubbing alcohol. So far I have not had any problems with them comming unstuck. Hope I helped, Good luck. Nick.
  • stnickstnick Member Posts: 177
Guess I should read closer. You do have a different model than mine, but the fender brows sound like the same type install. Your hood piece must slide in between hood and grill. Nick

After many re-reads of the directions and a call to Lund, we found out that for the Exterminator 3 piece model, the directions were incomplete for the 'eyebrow' installs...no mention of using the 4 black pads, instead. they wanted to use the 'bumpers' or gum drop looking plastic pieces (I did not)

I got the eyebrows on (mine only have 1 pre-drilled hole) and the center piece (had to unbolt all the fasterners holding the grill to the hood, and slip in the shield). I may lower the shield a bit more, have to do a test drive and check the view.

Other then incomplete directions, Lund puts a sticker with their part number on the inside of the center shield, almost impossible to remove the glue as you can see it from quite a distance.

    Thanks

    Check it out.

    http://www.speedtweaks.net/bedrug_group_buy.htm

    $280 includes shipping.

I put in an order for one.

If anyone is sitting on the fence, this price is hard to beat.

They need a couple more people to order for the group order to go through.

Now that I'm off for the summer (no more accounting classes), I'll review and respond sooner. On the fogs, its four bolts off and four bolts back on again, once a year. Talked to others at an import car show in Carlisle, PA last weekend and many if not all have non-conforming lights. Couldn't find anyone that had to take their's off for inspection.

Was looking at factory installed bedliners on Dodge Dakota's and noticed a clear piece of tape just under the tailgate liner's edge. This tape keeps the tailgate liner edge from rubbing on the tailgate's paint. Kinda hard to describe, if you see it you will know what I mean. Anyway, I want to find this type of tape which I will use when I install my Penda Liner bedliner on my new '01 Dakota Quad Cab. Any help in finding this protective tape would be appreciated. Someone had asked about a million posts ago how difficult it was to remove a foldacover and if any issues reinstalling.

literally 3 minutes off and 3 minutes on.
1 small adjustable, woulda gone quicker if I wasn't too lazy to go get a combination wrench from in the house..
Reinstall ez, just latched the latch on the panel that bolts down first, aligns itself after that.

Oh, someone had mentioned somewhere that the foldacover was heavy and hard to lift off and on.
Well, I've had 2 back surgeries and it was cake. I'd guess I dunno, 18lbs or less.
  • ron35ron35 Member Posts: 134
bilarf - There are protective kits for sale which consist of foam or some other material which go between the bedliner and the truck bed. Whoever is selling you the pendaliner should know about these and be able to supply one to you; the last time I saw one it was only about $20. If your dealer doesn't have them try another dealer.

Ron35, I bought a product manufactured by TRIMBRITE called " Protective Tape Bodyguard"
today. I a heavy duty self-adhesive film that protects against paint chipping, etc.. Used for spoilers, rocker panels, wheel flanges and tailgates according to the manufacturer. Anyway,
what I was looking for so will use under the tailgate penda-liner to protect the paint. By the way, ordered my fully loaded '01 Quad Cab Sport on 4/20/01 and it arrived at dealer from factory on 5/12/01. Came with no Quad Cab badge or V-8 badge which is fine with me. No dings, etc, either. Will be taking the delivery in 2 days when my 30 day Farm Bureau wait is complete.

Does anyone know where to get replacement parts for Mopar accessories? The local dealerships aren't being very helpful.

    Thanks.
  • bobs5bobs5 Member Posts: 557
If you give more information as to what replacement part is needed, or which particular Mopar accessory your talking about, then perhaps someone may have an idea as to who the manufacturer of that particular Mopar accessory is.
Bottom line, is that you'll probably need to find the manufacturer of the mopar accessory, and contact them for replacement parts.
    good luck

    Bob,

Thanks for replying. I was trying to keep it generic, thinking that if someone had an answer, it would be helpful to more people than just myself.

That being said, I picked up a Tubular Brushguard on Ebay without the hardware. I'm fairly confident I can find bolts to allow me to attach it to the underside of the frame, but there are metal clips that screw into the guard itself and look like they attach somewhere under or around the bumper area. When I looked at them at the dealership (attached to a guard) they appear to be shaped in such a way as to be a proprietary design.

I've contacted two dealerships, and both have said either directly or indirectly that I'd have to buy the guard itself in order to get the hardware. (Yeah right)

If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.

    Thanks,

    Jeff
  • bobs5bobs5 Member Posts: 557
    Jeff,
I suppose all the necessary hardware should have come with the brushguard which you acquired.
Can you contact the ebay seller to inquire about this?
Shame on the dealers for not helping you better.
Is there any kind of labels or markings on the brushguard itself that may lend a clue to the manufacturer?
Sorry I could not be of more help.
Maybe one of the other people here can be of more help.

    Thanks for the link.
I checked three shops around me and the cheapest was $340 installed, plus tax. But I understand that installation is a breeze anyway. Speedtweaks e-mailed back that it would ship this Friday, so the minimum order must have been reached.

I wonder if a call to Dodge customer assistance would help?

    Also check out:

    www.4adodge.com and go to assistance.

    which brings up:

then go to "contact dodge" which brings up an online question form.

Just got the Mopar roof rack installed on my quad. It is SWEET! It gives the truck a whole new look.
  • spike50spike50 Member Posts: 481
zidctir - Make sure to give us "fence sitters" a product report. I have a canoe and a kayak that at some point I'll have to use the QC to get them to the water. What do you plan on putting up there?
  • dodgetrukndodgetrukn Member Posts: 116
Just got the F-106N (w/nipple) valve and Adapter-Adp106 adapter. Only saw (1) post (DML newsgroup) saying you didn't need the adapter for the 4.7 liter..2001-quad. I would have not ordered the adapter for the F-106N ($6.00) if I had read more posts about it.
THE VALVE AND THE ADAPTER BOTH HAVE THE SAME THREAD LENGTH and dia.. I was thinking the adapter would have been shorter. Fumotovalve claims you need the adapter for the 4.7.Not a mechanic, but think 99% I was taken for the extra $6.

Another note: Got my westin bars 25-1775 (black) for the truck also. I see the back main brackets are mirrored images of themselves..good. The front ones are identical to each other (not mirrored) as per shown on parts list. GUESS this is normal...as both would mount up..but if ya ever looked underneath, you would think it ain't right..
.ANYONE SEE THIS ALSO?? or did Mr. Loser get screwed again..

Also pulled the rubber passenger grill guard off, and the right angle snorkel looking piece
on the front of the air box..Seems a little more responsive now...will post any mileage diff..if I can get my foot out of it..Seems like plenty of people like to play mr. racer with me..of course within all speed limits....
Waiting to get my catback and gen 2.intake..when it is finally available.
Love that truck..MORE than my old (totalled-not my fault)) '98 extended cab (318v8)...Ger
  • ayrowayrow Member Posts: 99
    Ger Mil,

I too, felt as though I had been "taken" when I was told I needed the adapter piece. It is quite obvious that it is not needed.

    Ayrow.
  • maceymacey Member Posts: 59
I've also seen posts re: pulling off the pax side rubber piece from the grill...do you know what this piece was intended for?

Also thought of pulling off the airbox snorkle like yourself (while waiting for K&Ns GEN II FIPK for my 2001 4.7)...be very interested if you find out MPG hasn't decreased and performance seems to have increased.

BTW, how hard was it to remove the snorkle, just pop the connectors off?

(FWIW, I already have a drop in K&N air filter)

    Thanks!
  • biglucybiglucy Member Posts: 140
I did not measure the outer diameter on the threads but it appeared that they were different, so I used the $6 adapter. With the adapter, the nipple appears to hang below the skid plate only slightly. so far, so good.
  • dodgetrukndodgetrukn Member Posts: 116
1 - I opened the air filter assembly, reached in with left hand onto snorkel, held onto snorkel with right hand outside of the box,and guided the snorkel out relatively easy (30 secs). I did need to fiddle for a few secs to lift it out of the engine compartment. Real Easy...

2 - I'll listen as I have been,,,and will convince myself later to the thread diff as posted..
I will bring home my vernier calipers tonight and measure the OD. I will also then see as I
hold both threads against each other to see if they are different..

Kinda surprised that some folks used the adapter and some didn't, Does that mean some
folks may have minorly cross threaded their oil plug?? Hope not..anyway I'm gonna measure
this time,,not just look with my bifocal eyeballs.. Appreciate all comments..
Dang, hoping not to have my nipple hanging..
    Regards, Ger
  • dodgetrukndodgetrukn Member Posts: 116
Well, Using vernier calipers, I measured the F106N od's which was 0.547 inch.
The adapter was 0.545 inch. The F106N threads stop ~ 0.085 inch from it's base and the gasket
is ~ 0.070 inch thick. Threads per inch identical for both.
I will see how the valve installs without the adapter when I get to 1500 miles.
*** I am interested in other fumoto owners if they used the adapter or not.**
I would not be surprised now..if 50% of the respondents use and 50% don't use the adapter.
If I felt that adding the adapter would not place the valve so close to the skid plate, then
    I wouldn't care.

Interested for some suggestions in regard to
Step Bars for my new Quad Cab. The truck is silver metallic in color so along with a easy to install /decent looks / decent price I think I would be interested in aluminum color or brushed metal. Would appreciate input on this. Thanks in Advance! Bill in NY
p.s. Won't be doing any off roading, etc. so strength is not of major importance.

The min order has been reached.

The group buy will probably continue. It is a waiting game though.

I checked with a local installer and they wanted $380. Too rich for my blood.

This site has the next lowest price if you want it right away.

Just got the shipping confirmation email.
My Bedrug is on it's way.
  • bobs5bobs5 Member Posts: 557
    YEEEEEE HAWWWWWW IT ARRIVED!

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
    THEY SENT THE WRONG MODEL...ARRRGGGGGHHHHH

Just my luck, they sent a short bed dakota bedrug instead of the one which fits the Quad cab....bummer extrodinare!

They will ship the correct one after memorial day weekend.

All I can say it that when I rolled this one out on the bed, it filled the ribbed bed completely and made for a smooth bed. Easy to kneel on without hurting one's knees.

Someone dropped the ball the day of shipment, but they will correct the problem.

    I'll post back with results.

I am looking at getting a spray-in bedliner, I just wanted to see what other peoples opinions are. I am strongly considering a Speedliner. Wanted to see if anyone has any experience with them. My other possibility is a Line-X. I am leaning a little more to the Speedliner as it's got a higher strength, but with a little more grip than the Line-X.

Rhino is out as the dealer would like to drill holes in the bed for drains.

Has anyone here had any personal experiences with the Speedliner. I can get a better price than Line-x, and from what I have read on other boards people that have had experience with both actually prefer the Speedliner.

I have a few questions for those of you that have already been through this.
1.) The fender flares, are they a do it yourself install or is it better to have them dealer installed with the purchase?
2.) Anybody opt for the 17" RT wheels for their QAC and what's the difference with the 'factory' wheels @ 500 ea. and the accessory 'catalog' wheels @ 640/set?
3.) OK all you tonneau cover folks, which hard cover is really the easiest to remove/install when one wants to carry a tall load that won't fit under the cover?
4.) Also I'm getting the factory under the rail bedliner, is that going to be a problem with tonneau cover brands? I'm not too worried about rain leaking as where I live, it doesn't rain too much.

Thanks all for all the great info on a regular basis.

I'm looking at purchasing a hinged soft tonneau cover for my 2001 QC SLT in the next week. I have looked at the Extang, Downey, Saddleman and a few others. I do not want or need a hard or roll top. Any information good or bad is looked for and also information on low priced dealers in northern Delaware or on the web would be great.
  • ahasherahasher Member Posts: 236
I put the extang Saber snapless on my QC last spring, or about 2 mos after i bought it. It is not hinged, as the new Extang model is. However, I also wanted hinged, and couldn't see spending more $$, I modified mine to fold up about 1/3 in from the tail, works great!
My point being I recommend Extand fully. It stil looks new and I havent had a drop of water leak in, beofre or after my mods. It's a tight, well fitting and good looking tonneau. Installation was a breeze and fit perfectly. I forget the place i ordered, but i will research it. I paid $219 for the saber, but I know the new hinged is about $270 or so. Good luck

Went with the Weston Signature Black Step Bars.
Paid $199.93 which included shipping. Purchased from Atlanta Auto Accessories. Ordered via internet and had them in 3 days. Weston currently has a REBATE going on so I will get a $15.00 rebate from them also. Install took about an hour and I also found the two front brackets were the same but the install was unaffected by this. The Step Bars look great with my '01 Silver Metallic Quad Cab. Bill in NY

Anyone care to recommend a brand / model mud flap for Dakota Quad Cab.. By the way did my first oil change today. Used the pepsi bottle trick for the oil filter and it worked great. Factory installed oil filter was not hard to get off at all. I installed a Mobil M1-204 oil filter.

The wheels are the same. DC only recently offered them as accessories. They probably figured if they wanted to sell them they'd have to price them with aftermarket wheels.
Fender flares - If you can follow instructions and are reasonably handy with your hands you can install the flares with no problems IF you are CAREFUL. Once the tape is applied to the car surface it is not meant to allow the flares to be removed for repositioning. I installed the flares on my 2K Quad without problems but the first one was nerve wracking. If you have doubts and the dealer doesn't want too much to install I'd go that way, then you would be covered by the 1 year warranty they give on paint and soft trim items (even though the warranty says 36/36.)

You're not alone. Even though the invoice says
2000 Dakota Quad Cab at the bottom, I was sent a unit for a Gen 1 shorbed. I did a little research and found the model numbers.

Model # sent - BR-K86SB-K this is for an 86+ shortbed Dakota.

    Model # required - BR-K00QC-K. 2000 Quad Cab model.

I noticed the problem as soon as I unpacked the bedrug. there was too much material at the front end of the side panels.

I am hoping the distributor isn't just trying to slough off some old product. At any rate it's going back. I hope this isn't the way Speed tweaks normally conducts business.
