The word from "above" (aka Edmund's tech wizards) is that the Board Search is being refined. They are hoping to roll out the new Search soon....or at least when they think it is right. :-)

I found this discussion in Aftermarket & Accessories K & N Air Filters - Bolt on Power?. Is this the discussion you were looking for?

Karen, you are indeed a great host(ess). You read the postings and respond with help and/or information. Previously, the only time we heard from a "Host" was in the form of a reprimand for language or something. Thanks for your continual monitoring and assistance.

    Karen,
I agree with bookitty - you Rock! I just have one question. Why isn't our forum one of the "top ten hot forums". I realize this may be a blessing in disguise, perhaps we don't want a bunch of yahoos finding out about our goldmine?!? Or maybe that's selfish... What are other member's thought's, should we belong on the top ten hot discussions?!?

    Bob,

No, the seats are not power, nor are they heated. Not a problem for me though. I'm happy as can be just the way they are.

YES. that is a sunroof. I found a company out here that could do the sunroof while maintaining the center overhead counsel. If you want a picture, tell me and I will try and post one.
They did a great job although they had to go with a smaller size due to the cross-pillar over the front passengers' heads. It is about 33"x16" I think. Anyway, it looks great and makes the truck seem a lot larger.

ayrow, PLEASE post some pics or a link to them. Can you shoot a few from inside and out? I've been looking to see how different units look w/ respect to the new console w/ built-in homelink and the corrugated roof. Is there room between them or did you go through the corrugation? More info please! Glad to see that someone finally did one and is happy with it.

    Tod,
Very nice job on the seats. I looked at your pic's, seats look uch better than stock. Wish it could be ordered that way.

    Help,
Thinking about putting the nerf bars or step bars on my wifes truck. I guess thats what they are called. 4.7 tire and handleing package and H/D service group, Q/C. Does anyone have any thought on this. Does it look ok. The one's I am thinking about are black. Would like to see a picture if anyone has one. This is a two wheel drive ( 16" tires). Salesman says he is over stock and has to sent some back. Maybe they are not selling. Anyway he is sending them back next week, says he has too many and will give me a deal. Sells for $199. installed and will let me have them for $159.

    Hi All,
Have learned a lot from reading everyone's Post.
Will be ordering Fully Load QC, in next couple of weeks.
Would like to know were the Photo's are posted, keep reading about everyone posting photos but can't find them on this website.
Especially interested in any Photos of White QC's, with spray in liners, Covers (prefer High style) and steps.
If anyone wants to send me photos of White QC's in JPEG format that would be great.
    Thanks,

Dan, my truck has the T&H group and Westin side bars. It's fun to be sitting higher than my old S10! They're black and they cost me $200 for the side bars and $50 installation, with a 5% discount. If you can get them for $150.00 including installation, that would be a pretty good deal, just make sure they are new and the real thing. The pros - I've found that they help my smaller friends (and older ones) get their leg up to get in, the con - is that it rubs the back of your pantleg whenever you get out of the truck. My truck link is http://www.geocities.com/rfroache2001/

Nollie - do a search for quad cab at Edmunds homepage and you'll find a bunch of forums for the QC. One of 'em is photo gallery!

We are all waiting for pictures of a White Quad Cab!!! 8')

SeeYa - gotta go put the chains on my tires and feed the huskies...

I need some help in locating the turn signal flasher on a 2001 QC. I put a hitch on and wanted to put in a heavy duty flasher for the turn signals. Is it necessary? It's not in the fuse box on the driver's side or the relay box in the engine compartment. I can hear it but can't locate it. Sounds like it is up under the dash somewhere? If anyone is running a trailer without the towing package and finds they don't need the heavy duty falsher, please let me know.
Thanks for any light you can shed on the subject.

Thanks biglucy, I'll do the search. I did check out your page. Truck looks good. I like the bars and it is the same brand I am looking at. I guess I am getting a deal. Hate to pass it up. I think they look better on a 4x4 and mine is 2WD. The salesman said he would put one on and if we didn't like the way it looks then he would take it off with no charge. Can't beat that. Got to go , my wife wants to go to town and I get to drive, can't pass that up. Thanks.

(2nddak)The device you are looking for is called the "combination flasher" This is NOT the traditional round "flasher unit" that has been used in vehicles for 30 years. instead, it is a specialized integrated circuit device that is designed to maintain the flashing rate reguardless of the number of bulbs. (ie...towing a trailer)

According to BOB, it is located near the steering column.

    Paraphrasing the BOB;
    1. Disconect battery
    2. Remove steering-column opening cover from instrament panel
    3. Reach through outboard side of steering-column opening to reach the fuse block on the junction block
    4. Remove combination flasher

Last week I ordered a new Quad Cab Sport. I really had my heart set on the amber fire pearl coat. I've seen a few Dakota's that color and thought it really catches the eye. Well anyway, I found out last week when I ordered my new Dakota that Amber fire has been discontinued. (Too Bad) for me. I settled for the "flame red". The truck wont be here for about a month.
  • 2nddak2nddak Member Posts: 44
Thanks for the flasher info, that's the area I heard it clicking in. From your description, sounds like I don't need to replace it to haul a trailer with standard lighting. 2nddak

I was really worried about my power seat for a little while and I thought this may happen to someone else.

Not every time but sometimes when I got back in my truck, the seat would be tilted back and would be higher than is comfortable for me. I thought there was something wrong like the door lock thing. What I found out is the seat cover was sliding around when I got out of the truck. It would press the front most button of the power seat up. This caused the seat to raise and tilt back. So now every so often I make sure to slide the fabric back around toward the seat belt.

Bpeebles- every time you post and refer to "BOB" I piss in my pants. You guys are a riot! If I recall correctly, you are in central Jersey-I'm in the north by NYS. Perhaps we'll "Run" into each other soon. Love my forest green quad, now 1 year old with 11,000 miles on it. I too have obtained BOB and went thru it at some length last night. VERY thorough, and there is no drain plug in the trans converter. Keep up the good, informative work, Dakota owners!!

If you gas tank is between 1/2 and 3/4 full, depending on how hard you stop, you will feel a thump like someone hit you. Several other members have had this same feeling. It's just the gas moving back and forth from the stop.

Its time to replace the tires on the Quad. Its only been 20,000 miles but they are looking shabby. I rotated them twice but they still wore pretty fast. My wife sways she is easy on the gas but I DOT THINK SO.

Anyway here is my ? The original tires are 255/65/15's I dot want to stay with that size due to limited availability so what would be a good alternative? 235/70/15's are within 1/10th of an inch in over-all height as are 275/60/15's. The 235's look a little on the thin side while the 275's are kind wide for the 15X7 ( I think that is what came on it with the ad suspension package) rims. I also though about going with a 255/60/15. They are 3/4 of an inch shorter but they are almost the same size as a well worn 255/65/15 so I dot believe the truck computer would have a hard time with that. Any suggestions???? Thanks

While I'd be worried about the water ingestion (and I was), I talked to a few other guys that said it isn't a problem at all, and I've never had any hint of water on the filter. Granted, the Z-Tube doesn't have an airdam to separate the engine air which it really needs, but I'm addressing that myself. I know of a few people with homebrew ABS intakes and none have problems with the heat or anything. I just hate the way it looks. As far as the warrantee goes, the filters meet or exceed DC requirements so, as long as they don't provide free filters, you're free to replace the stock one with anything you choose, provided it meets OEM requirements. They can't deny warrantee coverage unless the intake can be proven to have caused a failure.

    Tod,
I believe we would all appreciate pics, or at least some more information regarding that beautiful sunroof.
Curious as to which company installed it, what was the price, any problems with it, any leaks, etc.

I wish a sunroof was an option when ordering from dodge.

    Thanks,
    Bob

If you had the HD suspension pkg and your QC came with the 255/65/15's and you changed tire sizes what did you go to and how have then been?
  • tuvtesttuvtest Member Posts: 237
the T&H pkg comes with 265/70R16s from the factory I have put on 32"- 11.5, 15's

Thanks for the gas tank idea. That's exactly what's doing it now that you mentioned it. I filled up the tank the other day (prior to reading your post) and I wasn't getting rear ended at traffic lights anymore after filling the tank.

I never had that problem in my 92 Dakota so I guess Dodge changed something in the baffles or overall design of the tank.

You saved me a trip to the dealer with my brand new truck:-))

    Ok everybody,

I have been getting a ton of requests on how I had the sunroof installed in my 2001 QC.

Sorry it took so long, I just got back from a skiing trip and had to wait to build the web page where you guys can see all of this.

For information and pictures on the installation of my sunroof, go to this link:

If you missed it, you can see the leather seat upgrade at this link:

My 2000 2wd came with 255/65/15's on the 15X8 rim. The 2001 came with the same I believe except now on a 16" rim. Its ok though as I have ordered some Pirelli Scorpion zeros for the Quad.

Thanks alot for the info and pictures you posted re:your sunroof. What a great deal for <$300.00!! Your truck looks great too, by the way.

Just a couple of follow-up questions: 1) Do you notice any more noise than b/4 (wind noise, etc.); and 2) Do you have an interior cover for the sunroof to block the incoming sunlight?
  • ayrowayrow Member Posts: 99
    Sean,

    Thank you for your compliment.

The wind noise has increased ever-so-slightly. One would have to listen closely at a speed over 40 mph to really notice a difference.

In other words,.you won't notice it unless you are listening for it.

No, there is no interior cover.

    Sean,
Wow! a beautiful truck you have there. That garnet red is sweet. Also liked the "if money was no object" wish list in your profile. I know the feelin'!
What brand is your stone deflector and your vent visors and how are they secured (I'm looking for something which doesn't require tape).

That sunroof of yours is to die for!! If anyone in PA can recommend someone to do that job they'll have at least one customer!
I simply cannot believe that price, however. It looks like a $500.00 job, easy. please get back to us when your ready to let us know what you REALLY paid for it :-} (for 300 I'll drive to VA to have it done!)

I was looking to get the molded splashguards with the rams head on them. Does anyone know if the emblem is black and just molded into the plastic? Or is the rams head silver or white?

    Thanks

  • biglucybiglucy Member Posts: 140
I have the deluxe molded splash guards. The ram's head is molded into the plastic and the entire splash guard is black. There was some talk awhile back about getting the splash guards with a silver ram's head, but I don't believe they are offered by mopar, only the black ones.

Thanks for the info!! I was all set to order them and I saw a picture that looked like the Rams head was silver and I didnt like that at all..

The stone deflector/bug deflector is made by EGR. I bought it here locally from DFW Camper Corral. http://www.truckaccessorystore.com/index.html

It has 3 pieces. The main piece is inserted between the hood and the grill and tightened with the existing screws that hold this assembly together. It is not the easiest thing to install, but not entirely difficult either. The two "eye brows" that go over the headlights DO require the use of velcro tape on the hood. I personally don't have a problem with this but I note your reluctance to use tape. You don't have to install the "eye brows", by the way, and you can in fact order just the center piece.

The Ventvisors DO require the use of tape. I just ordered a set of Weatherflectors that don't require tape: http://www.weathertech.com

Again, I don't have a problem with the tape. It's just that the Ventvisors have a dark tint, which combined with my tinted front windows, tends to increase the blind spot caused by the A Pillar. I've gotten used to this now and I tilt my head more left to right when going around corners, but this is a pain in the _ss. The Weatherflectors have an almost clear tint to them and I've been told they don't cause the same kinds of vision problems the Ventvisors do. I'm supposed to receive them tomorrow, so we'll see!

Thanks for your compliments on my pics btw. I plan to add some more in the next few days that show my Mopar Cold Air Induction system, my new 3" Gibson Single Swept catback, and the reflective safety tape I added to my bed extender to keep from getting rear-ended on dark nights, etc.

    Take care.

  • ayrowayrow Member Posts: 99
    slickwilli,

Yes, the seats are a little lighter than the rest of the interior.

However, they still match pretty well.
The main thought that I keep having is that the improvement in comfort far outweighs any slight matching problems that there might be.

    I'm happy!!!

    :)

You may have already experienced the annoying "drumming" one gets when you have any two windows down. Many have said that opening the rear sliding window eliminates it. I was wondering if opening your sunroof eliminates it. It would be great to know that this is a possible remedy for us solid rear window quad owners to employ.

I have been reading the comments on this site for several weeks trying to decide what truck I wanted to buy. I have never owned a Dodge but decided to order one since I could not find what I wanted on the lots. The local dealer agreed to order me one at $100 over invoice so I signed the agreement on Monday and gave a deposit. The dealer now tells me that Dodge had a price increase and wants another $1000. I refused to pay this and decided to get my deposit back. Is anyone aware of any price increases this big lately from Dodge???

I've posted some more pictures of the mods. to my QC in case anyone is interested. You can find the new pictures on pages 3 and 4 at the following site:

    http://www.geocities.com/txqc2000

The newest pictures are of my Mopar Cold Air Induction System, Mopar Bed Extender with reflective tape to avoid rear-end collisions at night, and my Gibson Single Sideswept Catback system.
  • ayrowayrow Member Posts: 99
    Spike50,

The drumming sound you describe is caused by a vacuum. The rushing air over the open portion of the vehicle creates a vacuum over that opened spot. When there is only one window open, there is no air to "suck" out of the vehicle. That drumming you hear is a vibration caused by the vacuum and it's inability to grasp any air effectively.

There are two ways of getting rid of it:

The first, as you mentioned, is to create another opening in the vehicle to permit free airflow and stop the vibration that I described. Regardless of where it is, sunroof, back sliding rear window, or the rear door windows, a large enough opening would do the job.

The second method, used in most factory sunroofs, is to have a air deflector in front of the sunroof. What this actually does is deflect or disrupt the air flow over the opening in the sunroof so that it [the air] is unable to "seal" around the edges of the opening and create this vacuum that is so disruptive.

In order for this vacuum to exist, air has to evenly flow parallel to the actual opening without foreign objects to create a disturbance in the airflow.
That is why, on most cars and trucks, this drumming sound you describe, or the "vacuum", is not present when the only window open is the driver's side or passenger's side.
Why, you ask??? Because the angle of the "A" pillar, or more importantly, the side, rear-view mirror usually disrupts this air flow enough to eliminate the vacuum.

Unfortunatley, on some of the Dodge trucks, this is not the case.

To answer your question (sorry for the science lesson) yes, the sunroof eliminates that drumming sound when open.
  • ayrowayrow Member Posts: 99
Ok everybody. I know this has been asked before, but I have yet to see a straight answer.

Is there a K&N intake kit for the 4.7 V8???

I have read that the kit for the 5.9 (or 5.2...I can't remember) will work and/or fit on the 4.7.

Is this true??? If so, what do I need to buy?

I would very much like to get an aftermarket kit for my QC 4.7 and I am not sure where to look.

    Thanks.

I just recieved the latest JC Whitney catalog. Looks like they sell the weatherflectors now.
  • bobs5bobs5 Member Posts: 557
Thanks for sharing the info and pics of that beautiful sunroof. The installer you found is an incredible craftsman. I wish he was in the NJ area. At $300, it truly is a bargain, considering the cost of the sunroof itself and labor.
  • bobs5bobs5 Member Posts: 557
Another $1000, sounds like a typical dealer trick to me.
I don't really know if there has been an increase in invoice price or not.
There should be other dealerships in your area, so it may be worthwhile to shop around.

When I ordered my truck, there was an increase in some of the prices, between the time of order and delivery. The difference was something like $250. The dealer absorbed the difference in price.

    good luck,
    Bob
  • biglucybiglucy Member Posts: 140
    Marshall,

That's a @#$! move on your dealers part. If you dealt with him in good faith and even gave him a $1000 deposit - then it's not your problem if the dealer was too lazy to know of any "price increase" - yeah right. If he is pulling that kind of crap on you then you have to wonder what kind of service you will be getting from that dealership when the frontline is already trying to screw you. Stick to your guns, #itch and moan, and tell'em now you want it for $100 dollars BELOW invoice. Bobs5 had the right idea, shop around and see what else is available.
