I have a 2000 2wd QC w/28,000 miles and my light has NOT come on, but someone else said theirs had about 3-4 months ago. I don't remember who it was.
  • nortx01qcnortx01qc Member Posts: 37
I had the light come on. Service guy mumbled something about an incorrect fuse had been installed. The fix was to replace the instrument cluster. Go figure!
  • slickwilliedjslickwilliedj Member Posts: 252
re service 4wd light. mine came on and they replaced the cluster also but offered no explnation as to why it came on in the 1 st place especially on a 2wd!?

For those of you that have kept track of such things:

What has been your experience with how long it took from the date your vehicle began to be built to the date you received it? I realize there probably have been a wide range of experiences, I just wondering what I might expect as a rough average.

    Thanks.

I seem to remember some messages about putting Durango color matched body side molding on Quad Cabs. If anyone here has done this, please let me know if there were any modifications that had to be performed (trimming...)

    Thanks

I received mine in just under 4 weeks. Factory order from MI to DE, but I think I was kinda lucky getting it so fast. It also helped that my town has the plant that builds the Durango and DC ships most of their vehicles destined for this area to that plant's rail spur first. I was surprised at how quick evrything occured, I'm sure delivery times can vary significantly...
  • rockymtn4x4rockymtn4x4 Member Posts: 16
Both my orders took just under 4 weeks also. First order was put in missing an option I wanted. Arrived in Denver, CO in about 3 weeks and at my dealer 2 days later. Order placed 3/6, drove off lot 4/2.
  • bobs5bobs5 Member Posts: 557
Mine took just under 5 weeks from order date to delivery date.
I did not keep track of the entire process of the assembly line.
Did have the dealer make a search at about the 4 week mark, which is when my car had to be retired. At that time it was on the train at about the half way point to destination.
  • maceymacey Member Posts: 59
My order was received by the factory on 3/19, built on 4/12, delivered 4/28, stuck at the final rail drop off since 4/18...carrier transport problems...DC did their job quick and well!

My truck was ordered on 4/2/01. It was built on 4/27/01 and delivered to the dealer on 5/9/01. I picked up my truck last night 5/10/01. It took 5 weeks from the time it was ordered.

What a great truck and so far so good.

    Check it out.

    http://www.speedtweaks.net/bedrug_group_buy.htm

    $280 includes shipping.

I put in an order for one.

If anyone is sitting on the fence, this price is hard to beat.

They need a couple more people to order for the group order to go through.

    Hello Everyone,

With less than 4000 miles on my truck, my brakes are starting to feel spongy. When my truck was spankin' new I believe the brakes were much "touchier" and that's the way I like them. So I guess the pads are starting to wear down a tad. I'm hard on the brakes so I've been thinking about putting in more heavy duty rotors and pads. I know this subject has been covered at length in previous posts regarding wimpy rotors and the like, but I would really appreciate it if anyone can give me suggestions as to where I can buy the best rotors and pads. Do you guys think it's too early for me to switch parts or if anyone has any advice at all it would be really appreciated!

I have a 2000 Quad Cab with the 4.7 2wd in Amber Fire. I love it, plenty of power when I need it and very comfortable to drive. I am having a problem with the steering. I feel pops and creaks in the steering wheel. This occurs quite often when I brake or accelerate. It is not road feel. There was a TSD on the steering column for pops but it did not solve the problem. Seems to be getting progressively worse. I have 7,000 miles on the vehicle and it has already had a front wheel alignment for pulling to the right. Any thoughts?

I have a '00 4x4 with 14,000 miles and I feel a faint buzzing at times while driving in 2WD just as I'm leaving a parking lot after start-up with some slight turning involved. I often wonder about it but its so slight that I can wait. If you figure it out - let us know.

in response to post 2956, I to have the same problem as the post, I took my quad in to dealer and everything checked out, I was told it was clutch fan noise. my question to that is, how could a clutch fan make the engine run sluggish, when I take off I hit 1600 rpm and that just barely moving, I think its the tranny, it has to be I never heard of a fan making a vehicle barely move while the engine races, if anyone else is experiencing this please write... don't settle for this answer, the truck should not act like this, by the way I was also told it could be the trucks computer learning my driving habits, boo bee, everyone starts and drives there truck the same way. don't settle for it mines going back and there going to make it right. think there's a cranny problem that Dodge is trying to hide...
  • ford_biiford_bii Member Posts: 120
The reason is very simple: wind resistance. When the fan clutch is engaged, the fan spins at the same rate as the crankshaft, and as you spool up the rpms, the fan has to turn faster, which means that it is displacing more air (doing more work). The extra air displacement puts a lot of extra resistance on the engine, which makes it feel sluggish. If the fan clutch disengages after a minute like it should, you're fine. At some point in the life of your truck it is worth noting that the fan clutch will probably wear out, and will stick on all the time. You'll know when it happens, and it is a very simple replacement.

So if your truck runs fine after the fan clutch disengages, leave it go, it's fine.

Welcome to my and ahasher Stalling Dakota Club. You already paid the price of admission so this information is free.
The fix is an update to your PCM (i.e. computer) I had the exact same problem as you and it took three updates to finally get it fixed. Apparently the PCM reads pre set values when in open loop mode (this is during startup) and DC did not get the programming correct. This has afflicted Jeeps and Durangoes as well (all which have the 4.7 v-8) You need to go to your dealer and CAREFULLY explain what is going on. They may want it overnight, that is fair since the problem happens during cold start. Don't let them BS you into thinking its gas related, its not.
I'll wager 20 bucks you don't have this problem during a hot restart?
Also check Maintenance forum here in town hall and you'll see a lot of discussion between me and a fella named ahasher. I think Ahasher has the TSB or at least the update information. There is nothing on my workorder other than "flash PCM" so I have no idea what the program is or was used.
Finally, I can tell you this, once the PCM was updated, I have no more problems with the idle.
Best wishes hope your dealer has some degree of intelligence and cares about your problem.

    Bigdave11,

I have a 2000 4.7 4X4 with 12,000 miles that has recently started doing the same thing. Not every cold start, but maybe 2 out of 5. It starts right up just like it always did, but after it idles for about 10 -15 seconds it stumbles and the idle gets rough and drops...sometimes low enough to stall, sometimes not. It only recently started doing this and I have had it since August 2000.

Did you say you were getting 18 MPG city and 25 MPG HWY? If my QC were getting that kind of mileage, I don't think I would let ANYONE tinker with anything on it. I don't think mine would get that kind of mileage if I put it in neutral and towed it. You either have a very special 4.7 QC or you have miscalculated.

Get a PCM update. It fixes the problem

Just returned from trip to Georgia, and western North Carolina from S. Florida. Drove about 1600 miles. Averaged 17.0 mpg. Highway speeds 65-70 and somewhat of a mix of back roads. Best was 18 and change. ,01 Quad, 4.7,auto, 4x4, 3.92,LSD, Tire and Handling Pkg., Tow Gap., etc. Truck rode and drove very well. Driving in mountains was fun, much different than south Flu. roads (straight and flat). 8800 miles on truck to date and no problems. I was hoping for a little better mileage, but can't really complain. Maybe bed cover would help. How did the west coast of Fla. treat you, Boo kitty? Have fun with those Quads! Jim

This weekend, I took my '01 QC SLT+ 4.7 auto. on a trip out west. Found some open, flat interstate and floored it from @ 70 mph. Still loads of power at that speed!!!

I quickly climbed to 100. But, the instant I hit 100, it was like someone slammed the brakes!!

I figured it was a "fluke". So, I went to 100 again. Same thing.

Seems as though I read about this in posts past.

Is this a Dodge, D/C thing? Is it a "governor" or a "computer" thing. Can it be legally "corrected"?

FYI: I got 19.9 mpg; mostly at 75~85 mph. Not bad considering I kept my foot in the firewall.

As previous post said, I just got back to town. This was my first "road trip" in new QC.

Still got the loud pop/creak from right front when turning right and applying brakes. Since Service Dept. can't/won't fix it, put in several calls to dealer/owner. Over 1 week; still no call back.

When I was washing truck today, I looked thru the front wheels and saw the disc brakes. Both of the rotors have several pronounced grooves; looks almost like the old 45-rpm vinyl records; only deeper! I've never seen disc rotors look like this on a new vehicle. This can't be a good thing. Anyone have any ideas out there???

  • spike50spike50 Member Posts: 481
Its all a matter of prospective. I've had disc brake equipped cars since the 70's and all eventually developed grooves on both front and back rotors. If the rotors are warped you'll get a pulsing and that needs fixed. Otherwise, just look at the grooves as additional surface area for better braking. I wouldn't worry.

we are the court jesters with the idle history. As he said, I also had (and resolved) the cold start LOW idle and almost stalling, and rough idle at temp after coming to a stop IN GEAR. I (we) had a TSB flash to the PCM which solved my problem.. and about a week later now it is a smooth as you could want in all conditions. I regret I was working on my honey-do list all weekend and neglected to get the info from my service receipt. I was surprised to see they DID put the TSB for my flash in the notes, but I will post the numbers later today or definitely NLT tomorrow morning. Good luck, and I hope mopar67's and my experiences and eventual fixes will help you.

Looking for any advice re:fatback systems... what brand is best or are they all about the same??? Also what type is preferred... single side sweep, dual side or split rear?
  • mopar67mopar67 Member Posts: 728
Try the farmland brand, tastes good in bean soup and also makes a mean pork stew.

Jim, thanks for asking. I have a verbal agreement on two beautifully wooded lots in Punta Gorda, in the community of Deep Creek. We plan to build in 3
or 4 years, but the real estate market is becoming very active in this area since Money Magazine pronounced it to be the fourth best place to live in America, and the first best place in any area without snow. So, it looks like we are on our way to becoming traffic stopping restaurant crowding official snow birds. Your trip sounded great, and am happy that you are enjoying your Quad Cab. You did well on mileage considering the 3.92 differential.

have been mentioned here before, but what has been the most successful way to improve the stock headlights brightness? PIAA superwhite bulbs have been mentioned I believe. I will be replacing stock driving lights soon as well but for now I want better a headlight since my commute starts in the O-DARK-EARLY hours and I usually return in the dark..
A jester who wants to see better in the morning :-)

Gator72, the Dakota has a speed limiter that interupts the ignition (I believe) to keep the top speed of our trucks about 100 - 105. This is very common and most cars have them. Typically, it is because the tires installed on the vehicle are not rated for sustained speeds above whatever the speed limiter is set for. This is a money issue as high speed tires cost high bucks, especially those with truck load carrying capacity. I believe that several aftermarket PCM manufacturers remove the speeed limiter in their chips.
  • txqc2000txqc2000 Member Posts: 121
Gator72 - As fvracer has mentioned, you've hit your speed limiter. The only way I know of to eliminate this is to get the Mopar HP PCM or have your PCM flashed by Mike Leach & Co., the guys who programmed the HP PCM.

ja182 - I have the Gibson Singleswept 3" catback system and absolutely love it. It sounds great OUTSIDE when you turn the ignition and when you stomp it, but INSIDE, the sound difference/resonance is hardly noticeable. I've been told by the Flowmaster dealer who installed my Gibson for me that the Flowmasters are much noisier inside and outside.

    hi all,
    i've got the 4.7,5 spd.,2wd...with 24,000 miles.i feel a shudder or release sensation when i come to a stop.then slowly ease back forward .
Could this be early rotor disease or the start of some play in the front end assembly?
    otherwise...the rest is cool!!!!!!!!!!!!
good luck bookitty. we spent some time looking in the golden triangle of texas last week.no snow there either!

    Not a chance.

I've had my 4.7 4x4 up to 108 mph, and it was still pulling like a mule.
  • gator72gator72 Member Posts: 115
    Hey Bookitty,

Since FLA is full, try Texas. There are some wonderful towns that are still "undiscovered". They provide great "quality of life", more "bang" for the buck, reasonable property values, and close to major medical facilities; (especially important for us "middle-aged" guys). PLUS, Texas has no State income tax.

Check out the following places - North of San Antonio:

    - New Braunfels
    - San Marcus
    - Brenham

Austin is good; but, too many people moving in. It's becoming just another "big town". Property values thru the roof!

Not another snowbird! Well, a least I'll have a couple of years to practice hauling a-- around in my 2001 4.7 ( taking delivery around the end of May). Might even beat you to the restaurants.Wecome to SW Fla, you can't be all that slow in a Dakota.

txqc2000-thanks for the advice...I'm on my way to get one now
  • bookittybookitty Member Posts: 1,303
Bill, they can only tax income when you have some, so I'm okay. Craig has mentioned that FL was short one snowbird, so therefore I am now obligated to fill the gap. Let's see now, if I lock out some of my gears, it will cause my Dakota to creep along. That should "make the cut."

ford_bii, do you have an automatic or manual transmission? I'm bettin' that you have manual.

I *think* I saw a post awhile back that said the stock PCM speed limiter is programmed for around 97-100 mph for automatics and around 115-118 mph for manual transmissions.

Can any of you guys with a BOB or BTB tell us if it says anything specific about the stock PCM speed limiter specifications? Are there any other variables besides transmission type?
  • trippinglizardtrippinglizard Member Posts: 56
All you freaks that complain about the engine shutting off at 100 mph are unlucky that you haven't come across a dip in the road. Uhhh hay Bevis what's up with this 4000lb piece of metal, it just doesn't want to go very fast . . . ahhh Butthead maybe we should ask nascar for some assvice . . . huhh huhh . . . No wonder America is facing an energy crisis, people are willing to get 1 mile to a gallon of gas.
Tom Cruise would be proud of you all . . . morons!
  • ford_biiford_bii Member Posts: 120
Skylerk - Yeah, I got the manual.

Trippinglizard - wooah buddy, relax. The only time I hit 108 was when I was down in West Virgina 2 weeks ago. If you're not familiar with WV, (which I wasn't) it is all HILLS. BIG ONES. If you're not going up a hill, you're going down one. Their road quality is far superior to PA. Anyways, on one of the really big down hills, I punched it a little in overdrive, and hit the 108, just to see if all the 100 mph rumors were true.

I will say, the truck was damn smooth at 100+. But I don't think I'll be going there again.

I have a 2001 Quad with the AWD/4WD Option. Have experienced no problems at all. In fact, it performed well in a little off-road trek recently. However, a friend had a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the same feature. He had nothing but problems from day one. Is this the same system? Has it been modified / upgraded? What can I expect? By the way, even with this AWD system, I get 17-18 mpg on the highway.
  • txqc2000txqc2000 Member Posts: 121
The AWD system on the QC is apparently the same as the base Select-Trac system on the Grand Cherokee. It is NOT the same as the Quadra Drive system with the 3 locking diffs. My brother in-law has that system and says he's experienced some problems with it.

I too have the AWD system and it has worked great thus far. No problems whatsoever. But I don't get near the gas mileage that you do. Probably b/c I have the 5.9L engine.
  • txqc2000txqc2000 Member Posts: 121
If you haven't ordered your Gibson catback system already, you might want to buy it from Steve @ www.smokindakota.com

I bought mine from him for something like $225 including the shipping cost. I also believe there is a group buy being organized through him via the DML (www.dakota-truck.net).

    Good luck.
  • drdakotadrdakota Member Posts: 24
txqc2000 - Thanks for the response. I checked with the owner of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was the Quadra Drive. I also went and looked at you info listed on the Hall. Sounds like you have a really fine truck. Have you given any thought to a spray-in bedliner? I had one in my previous Dakota and it worked great.
  • nathan_johnsonnathan_johnson Member Posts: 12
If I recall correctly from DML conversations the speed limiter depends on the tire and handling package. With the tire and handling package I believe that the speed is limited to 115 and with out to 95 or 100. I would guess that the tranny type has nothing to do with it.
  • txqc2000txqc2000 Member Posts: 121
I ended up going with the Mopar under the rail bedliner b/c I installed Mopar's bedlight/12V accessory outlet. I couldn't use the latter part if I went with a bedliner.

The bedlight has been very useful since I have the gullwing tonneau cover, and it can be rather hard to find stuff under there unless you have a light. Mine is hooked into the interior lights via a separate relay instead of the cab light switch that Mopar intended. So when I hit the remote control FOB the light inside the bed comes on while I'm retrieving my stuff.
