I installed the K&N Panel-Type OEM Replacement Pt#33-2084...+/- $45 @ Advance Auto Parts and worth every penny...

victx------> I installed a Alpine CDA-D852 in my '00 model....DIN&1/2, No Install Kit needed...Looks great and fills the entire OEM Hole... I'd be willing to bet you that it will fit perfect in the 2001 because the Faceplate is a little smaller than the Dash-Trim opening...Even with the "rounded" corners on the '01... Ill snap a couple of digi-pics and email them to you...If you want to drive up to NC, Ill even pop mine out and you can give it a whirl in yours to see how it looks and sounds....

As far as Speakers...I havent taken the panels off yet but am quite sure that they are the 6 1/2"S (or 6 3/4").....Like 99% of all MOPAR vehicles...BEWARE...a plain 6 1/2 will NOT fit in the opening without an adapter ring if they are truely 6 1/2S's...6 1/2's will fall through the opening...Unless you want to go with a Component type system, i doubt you will find a better full range speaker than what it in it from the factory...Trust me, ive been looking and listening...

Ive been talking with MTX about a thunderForm for the Quad....The make a colormatched one with (2) 10" Subs and a built in Amp for the club... I was told that they would have (2) ready for the Quad "Shortly"...One with a pair of 10's and one with a pair of 12's!!!! Ill definitly go with the pair of 12's with the Amp (Expect around $400-$600 for the setup) They have one with a pair of 10's for the Club Cab right now that you can check out i believe in Crutchfield...

    http://crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-zX7TyyuOXMk/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=0&g=0&I=236DRXP20G&o=&a=

PIRAT---As far as the boxer for a family pet...I have had them all my life...IMHO they are one of the best breeds for families especial with small kids and babies...You wont be disappointed..Plus they LOVE to ride in QUADS...In the cab of course....

All---> I haave seen/sat and driven in the 2001 model both with the cloth and leather...In my opinion, im glad i ordered a 2000 when i did and didnt wait for the 2001 or i'd still be kicking myself in the ol' [non-permissible content removed]...BUT thats just personal preference...I like the more rounded and flowing door panels and dash in the 00 than the boxy, straight ones in the 2001...I definitly did not like that door armrest...

I have a 2000 dakota QC 2wd 4.7 auto trans 355 gears lsd,I have read where the dakota should have a speed limiter of a 112mph My dakota shuts off at 98mph, anyone else tested there speed limiter.
  • iowabigguyiowabigguy Member Posts: 552
Let me guess, you don't have the tire and handling package?
  • rldssrldss Member Posts: 7
I have the sport plus group with 15x8.0 wheels and p255/65r15 tires and a rear sway bar dealer said that the dakota sport with the sport plus group came with the handling package.

Has anyone installed a Airaid air filter type system and a Borla cat back exhaust on their 4.7L Quad yet? If so did you notice a HP gain? Is the noise tolerable? Also where did you get the exhaust system from and aproximate cost.
Any input would be helpful as these are mods I have in mind for Red Hauler.
  • iowabigguyiowabigguy Member Posts: 552
Boy, I blew that one. The limit is generally set on the speed rating of the tires in this time of product liability lawsuits. I personally haven't had mine over 85 so far but now I'm curious. I have a 00 Quad, 4.7L, 5spd, 3.55 lsd, tire and handling group. I believe the tires are speed rated to 112mph. I know themacguy has had his quad in excess of 112 but I believe he implied he diddled the speed limiter. I'll let you know what I find if I get a safe chance to test the high end. Have to be careful, 25 over the limit and they pull your license on the spot.

hey all - well I finally got to take a look at bunch of 01 4x4 QC at my dealer's lot here in So Cal. Left feeling so stoked I'm going to order on this week - he gave me his order/option code sheet so I have all the info available on the color combos and new options for 01. Went out driving in an 01 Sport and since I hadn't driven the vehicle since way back in febuary or something, I was wondering what I would think. Well, it just blew me away. Particularly since I've driven the supercrew a bunch of times in between. loved the 01 dak! great pavement handling, even for a 4x4 truck (actually better than the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the exact same engine - reason is the different front ends, of course) as for the interior - it was interesting because my dealer had a super tricked out, bronze 00 with added wood grain. Visually, I still like the 00 interior better. It's just more pleasing, mainly because it reflects the truck's line on the outside, with rounded grill etc. The new 01 interior is much more "car-like". But, I have to say after driving the new 01 interior, it is more practical and ergonomically sound than the 00. radio controls are better, more room on the passenger's side, easier 4x4 shifter, nicer front console for cupholders, soft-touch ashtray etc. 00 looks better, 01 works better, IMHO.

One other note - my guy had a spanking new bright silver metallic up on the showroom and it looked so good in the SLT (chrome). I was all set on the Bronze but I might just go silver after all. Looks a bit cleaner with the new wheels, which are killer BTW, and melds nicer with the gray fascia. Can't really go wrong with silver, bronze or pat blue, my 3 fave colors. new mirrors are squeezed and less obtrusive, while still affording plenty of scan area. I can see why some buyers are dismayed by the new interior changes, I personally think the changes are better, even with the aesthetic compromises. will post this week with my final specs. BTW: anyone out there get the 3.92 axle and regret it on either gas mileage or speed and handling????

Thanks for the Carlisle info and all your other posts. While lurking for the past two months I have really been impressed by this forum. For knk--I'm infantry; my moniker is a hybrid of two units I used to be in.

Rick, please do not have your curiosity aroused to the point of doing high speed testing in any other than professionally appointed places, with the proper safety precautions and equipment. I for one would seriously miss you from this forum, and imagine how your family feel if anything happened to you, especially for all of the wrong reasons. If anyone wants to know top speeds, buy the magazine. Guys like themacguy and andy jordan have been on the racing circuits, and they do not take unnecessary chances or "push the envelope" casually. Stay safe. These trucks are not designed to operate at extremely high speeds.

bookitty, awwww, I didn't know you cared! Thanks for the kind thoughts. It would probably be a quick excursion into triple digits in Western Nebraska. Speed limit is already 75 and some areas are flat as board with good visibility and spare traffic. Only if the circumstances are just right. Besides with my luck I'll probably have a police escort. You are probably right....Rick

I have the instructions on disabling the horn honk on the keyless entry, but it doesn't work for me. Anyone had luck with this? Instructions say to put the ignition in the ON position, then hold the unlock for 4 to 10 seconds, then it says with the unlock depressed, press the lock button. Then release both buttons and a chime will confirm. Are you supposed to hold the unlock the whole time, or 4 to 10 seconds then again for the lock? I think I've tried all permutations, but no luck.

    victx,

I tried this myself tonight and it didn't work for me either. I also tried to change the one button push from unlocking all doors to just the driver's door with no luck there either. My wife was wondering what the heck all the horn beeping was!!!

    Any suggestions out there?

I too have been trying to shut off that horn with no success. I guess I will add that to my list when I go visit my dealer tomorrow. Have had my Quad for a week now. So far I've had a fog light fall off, a 'service 4WD' light come on ( I have a 2wd) and one of my rear doors will not operate from the inside. I am enjoying the truck though!

A quick question. On the rear doors, once locked do you always have to slide the lock lever before you can open the door from the inside. This is not the case for the front doors and was just wonder about the rear doors.

Thanks again to everyone for the great forum.
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
Is the little child safety lock thingy on each rear door disengaged? It's the little slide switch on the end - when you open the driver's side door it's on the end of your door about left hip high - that keeps the kids from opening it while travelling... you have to let them out or unlock it from inside the driver's door or with the keyless entry. Otherwise I don't have a clue.

Had my Dakota Quad Cab early December 99. Love the truck and finally getting decent mileage on 4.7 (17.5 mpg on highway). Now have 21 thousand and needed front rotors turned ($144) although 90% highway mileage. Chrysler insists on Trans. fluid change, Diff. Fluid change, radiator flush NOW. Also new spark plugs at 30 thousand miles as 4.7 doesn't have platinum plugs. This is an EXPENSIVE vehicle to maintain. If you don't maintain as Chrysler wants, you loose your warranty. Several GM trucks in past (and present) and none nearly as expensive at this Dodge. Something for you potential Dodge buyers to consider.
  • resqmanresqman Member Posts: 71
Have not tried to turn the Honk off. I did sucessfully change the remote keyless entry from a two button push to a single button push to open all doors.

Turn the key from off to on 4 times ending in the on position. The dash will go through its startup sequence and chime a number of times. When it is done, lock and unlock the doors with the power switch on the driver door. You should hear one chime.

Now when I push the unlock button on the remote keyless entry once, it unlocks all four doors. Since the vehicle locks all doors at 15 mph, you don't have to worry about unintentionally leaving the vehicle unlocked while driving.
  • steve234steve234 Member Posts: 460
I was able to shut off the automatic door locks by following the instructions. I do not know a bout reprogramming the remote, tho. The front doors will unlock with the door pull, but the rear doors will not. This is why I disabled the auto lock feature. It is not related to the child lock. If you want the auto lock, you just have to remember to hit the all door unlock for rear seat guests.

If I have 1 issue with D/C it would be the poor breaks(mainly front)they make too much dust and wear to fast.

Manhattan2:I had hoped the front rotors and breaks would have improved since "96".I had to replace the rotors and pads at 18,000 miles on my 1500 Ram 4x4,unbelievable $$.Traded my "98" Dakota with 11,000 miles(someone else can worry)so I didn't have to deal with that. Now you got me thinking again, same old same old with the 2000 QC's (4x4).Thats just great.I'll have to keep an eye on them, thanks for the reminder.

    Hi!
Few days ago I did another fill-up with a premium gas. I've got 16.5 mpg. comparing to less than 15 on a regular gas. As I said, no knocking or valves rutting. I think I would like to continue using better gas, but I am not sure what can happen to the engine or injectors. Has anybody thought about it. My gas mileage is little bit lower because I have a cup and some load on the back and sometimes latters on the top. Talking about brakes, I can feel some shaking when breaking (what a rhythm). I've mentioned it to my dealer, when I had 12.500 miles on it and he said: "Too late" Warranty only 12000 miles. Isn't it ridiculous? Someone said they need to be turned. It's not going to help, because when you turn them they become thiner and they will warp even faster. Now if I want to have smooth breaking I should replace the rotors. That pisses me off, so hurry guys before it's too late. On the other hand we, as users could make it a factory recall and get them do it for free. Who said breaks are good only for 12000 miles, but we probably have no chance, because they going to say we drive to strong or some other b.s. as they always do. Thanks for support in my boxer. I've made my mind and I'am picking my puppy on the Labor Day weekend. It's a pity we don't have a boxer discussion group so we could exchange our experiences. I hope he'll be a great dog. Thanks for attention.

I would be interested in seeing the pics of your dash. You can get my email address on my profile. I have already ordered a Pioneer DIN head unit. I want mini-disc in my truck and there are no 1.5 DIN MD players. According to autotoys the dash kit for a 98+ Intrepid will work on the '01 Dakota. I believe this as I drove an Intrepid for a day while a minor paint blemish was fixed on my Dakota, the stereo area of the dash looked exactly the same.

I will also go with component speakers up front, Pioneer TSC 1653. They fit oversized applications (6 3/4). I had these on my last car and was very happy with them. Per your recommendation I may just stay with the stock rear speakers.

Anyone who finds a resolution on disabling the keyless entry horn honk, please post. BTW is this something new for '01 or was it on the '00s also. Were there problems with this on the '00s.

    Second tank of gas is 18.3 mpg so far (4.7 5spd, 3.55, 4x4) :P

sorry for the long hiatus friends, but things have been so hectic that i can only turn on the computer a few moments at night, so i am typing this at work. i have 650 on a 01 QC, 4x4, 4.7, auto, 3.55, slt, and almost all of the toys. i have not checked the milagebut at this point who cares. i am so happy with the engine\tranny combo, it is smoooooth and can accellerate you through any passing situation. could you also send me some pics of the stereo so that i can see it. i am adding my work e-mail to my profile, so just send it there. i hope to have a more quad type post tonight. and craig if you are lurking, come and join us, you own a 00.

I disabled the horn chirp by following the instructions in the manual: after holding the UNLOCK button for a 6 count, press the LOCK button (while keeping the UNLOCK pressed), release both simultaneously and you should hear the chirp to confirm the change. I'm not sure I like the change yet - when I lock the doors and I'm too far to see that that they're indeed locked, I kinda miss the reassuring chirp. Disabling the annoying auto door lock feature (locking doors after reaching 15 mph) is a definite improvement for me. Hope this helps.

This must be an issue with the '01. I just ran out again and tried it, no luck.

I attempted to purchase a roll-n-lock cover from
California Concepts. This was one of the worst experiences in my life. I ordered the cover and was told they would call me when it came in. I still had not heard anything a month later so I called them up and my sales guy, Aaron, told me to come on down because they were holding it for me. I jumped in my new QC and raced down. When I got there it turned out they had ordered the wrong cover. They order the cover for the Ram Quad Cab. Aaron told me he would rush the next delivery and it should be down in a week. I said ok give me a call. One week later no call, so I called up and Aaron didn't even know what I was talking about. I was mad. They had charged my credit card 6 weeks prior and I still was no closer to getting my cover. I cancelled the order with Aaron and he threatened me. He stated that he had been in jail previously and wasn't afraid to go back. I had to contact my credit card company to get my refund because Aaron would not process the refund. I called to complain to the management and Aaron answered the phone and claimed to be the manager on duty. I finally just gave up. Recently I saw someone post in this forum and mention calconcepts.com. Be cautious if you order anything from this company.

Yee-Hah! Thanks to themacguy and wantaquad for sticking with me over all these many months! Today I (finally) ordered a 2001 4x4 Quad Cab. SLT, LSD, 4.7, 3.55 axle, bright silver with the dark gray interior, cd-cassette, 4-wheel anti-locks, foldaway mirrors, security group, power overhead, cloth bench seats, fog lamps, power seats, leather wrapped wheel, rear sliding window, skid plates, bodyside molding, 16 x 8 wheels, and a few things I can't even remember! Got it for 200 over invoice. Should be here in 4-6 weeks, according to dealer. Waiting to get my order confirm number so I can track the puppy. So stoked I can't stand it! At last, I am an "official" member of this board. Very cool.

4-6 weeks should be about right for some great California Dreamin'. You'll stop eating anything at all though, about 'on-the-train' status time - that'd be the Calif. Diet period. When it gets in you'll be weak as a (boo)kitty, and then just plain weak-in-the-knees when it shows up and you're left wondering (probably overnight or hey, what about a WHOLE holiday weekend!) if it'll be a purple people eater or something else you didn't order that actually shipped. I guess you'd still be better off than poor ol' k_____ (in the) 'balser.' His never did show up, and I really miss his (see previous) humor here. Maybe he'll get a 2001 and come back. Here's hopin'...

Outside a that: everything's gonna be all right.

And a hearty 'welcome to the club.' I feel greatly satisfied that you're now one of us:

"The many; the happy; the Quadders!" ;-P

Added a K&N filter system to my 2000 Dakoda Quad Cab trying to increase my mileage. A little more noise (actually sounds good) on hard acceleration. I'll let you know in a month if it's worth the $159 from Macromotive. My front brake rotor & pads were $144 from Dodge. Should have looked elsewhere and paid a lot less. Dodge dealer wants to change trans fluid for get this ($300) Willtake to Aamco for $69 and guaranteed to meet warranty requirements. Always took all my vehicles to dealer but not this Dodge. Love the truck though. Drove a new Ford 4 door with 5.4 just 2 days ago. Like the Dodge better in every way but interior which Ford has a beauty but 2 steps up to get in. Brakes are VERY Common on Dodge so watch yours.

You asked whether anyone had installed a Borla and Airaid... Can't help you there YET on my experience, but hope to soon...

I have a '00 QC (5.9, 4X4)... Decided on a Borla cat-back in late July and ordered it through an outfit in Dallas called The Off-Road Shop... They fell down on the order, and made no attempt to follow through with Borla so I cancelled and reordered through a local retailer here in Michigan.

Expect to pay $500-plus for the Borla. It's a stainless steel setup (versus "aluminized" steel) and you pay for it. Also, expect 3-5 weeks on delivery time... Due to limited demand for the QC, it's still considered a "special order" rather than a production system at Borla.

Anyway... I'm expecting my system in about 3 weeks. Will probably be doing the install myself, and switching to a K&N filter at that time.

Once the unit arrives and installation is underway, would be happy to supply digitals of the installation along with impressions.

JAALFS: Your miserable experience with California Concepts on the Roll-a-Cover sounds very similar to mine with The Off-Road Shop on the Borla. I found their incompetence intollerable... But perhaps I was "lucky" in not having to deal with both incompetence and hostility as you did! Suffice to say, I CAN RELATE!

Let's hope these are just isolated experiences, learn from mistakes and get on with it!

With work, Boy Scouts, going back to school, and being married with kids and cats, I don't get to participate that often. Congrats on getting the '01 Quad. Besides everything else, its one of the better things I've done.

Its apparent that you've had "conversations" about this vehicle but I didn't notice the transmission being specified on your last post - just wondering.
  • astaasta Member Posts: 122
Hey spike50 - thanks for the well-wishes. I went for the auto tranny. I couldn't find a 5 sp mated with the V8 to try out and I'm kinda lazy driving in the city a lot anyway. Curious how it does go with the manual and what kind of mpg improvement one would see over the auto. Next thing to consider is x-warranties - probably go for Chrysler's in some config of 7yr, 100K, even though I routinely do 20K a year (maybe more with this puppy!)
  • chachingmanchachingman Member Posts: 17
victx - thanks for the tip on the radio adapter for the '01's. I just got an Aiwa in dash CD/MP3 player in from Crutchfield and realized that I had ordered it with the adapter kit for the '00 (what I originally thought I was getting) I'm off to Best Buy tomorrow to find one for a '98 Intrepid! And I need to give Crutchfield 2 thumbs up here, these folks do mail order right. I ordered online, and I knew the unit I wanted was not being shipped yet. A rep actually CALLED me TWICE to update me on the status of my back order. Also when the order did arrive, they had enclosed a gift cert. for $25 off my next order.

Well, 1600+ miles on my '01 QC and all is peachy. (4.7 5-speed LSD 2wd T&H Sport+) Unless the overhead console is lying to me I get around 21 MPG on the highway (and I mean all highway). I haven't done much "city" driving in a while. The 5-speed is one of the smoothest I've ever shifted, and is definitely the smoothest I've encountered in a truck.

    -Chris
  • lmeyer1lmeyer1 Member Posts: 215
    Which Aiwa did you get?
  • spike50spike50 Member Posts: 481
The 5 sp manual seems to be OK. No noises, erratic behavior other than what I think is the clutch sometimes. After returning from a two week backpacking trip, I would get a 3/4 to a second delay between leaving my foot off the clutch until I got a "thump" and pulse of the clutch fully engaging. Maybe it was me learning to drive again but it went away after a day.

The MPG difference between the two transmissions seems to be harder to gauge because of the different driving styles. In south central PA there a lot of hills and many times I keep it in 4th gear until I get to a flat stretch. Also, its real easy to red-line the 4.7L while getting up to highway speed. Around 3,000 rpm, this engine really starts to take-off and before you know it you can easily be into the danger-zone.

One of the hardest things to do with the 5 sp is drive around town while eating an ice cream cone. Other than that, I love it.

Was just looking at BOB (Big Orange Book) to answer a lighting question before signing on. I did notice specific wiring from the overhead console to an outside air temp sensor, power-train control module, data link connector, central timer module, etc., etc. Looks complicated to me for an after manufacture add on. Best to ask a dealer.

greetings to all of you fellow QC owners. I came across this forum a couple of nights ago hoping to find other owners of the dakota quad, and I was amazed at how many there are, as here in the midwest, they have been few and far between. I have a 00 flame red 4.7L auto 4x4 lsd slt+ with most of the goodies. It was purchased off the lot, the only one in a town of 5800. Was driving by in my 95 Ranger stx supercab 4x4 that I ordered new. Took the quad for a weekend test drive(advantage of small town dealer), and was finally impressed with something enough to get me to give up the Ranger, which had been excellent truck. Anyway, allow me to input some experiences, now have 3500 miles on it. So far so good. I drive 26 miles round trip each day and it has been averaging 16 to 17.5 mpg. Took a 900 mile trip when it had 300 miles on it. loaded with 6 people, and the tail end full of luggage. Highest was 19.7, overall trip avg was 17.7. Very pleased with power as compared to the 4.0 Ranger. Dealer had not ordered fog lights, and I really wanted them, so I ordered and installed the mopar kit, $136.00 works great, and easy to do. Other acc. put on are bush wacker black box rails, Pace Edwards roll top tonneau cover, power bolt tailgate lock and Pace's very nice full bed rug, instead of liner. All looks great and works fine. Sorry this is so long, but any help I can give, I will be happy to, as you all are so generous with your info time and comments, I have learned a lot in a couple days. Good driving all!
  • themacguythemacguy Member Posts: 417
Could you get a few impressions (if they're still talking to you after 900 miles) of the rest of the group in regards to setaing, leg comfort (if they had any), back aches, etc. during that trip? When they got tired of it, stops for stretching - that kind of thing. I hope you can pop in once in a while and answer some questions relating to that (and anything else) for us. One of my buddies test drove (with me) a Nissan crew cab back last Sept. for a couple of days. He was sold on it, but I was just starting my search. He's taken a couple of trips with four people in his, and SWEARS on his mother's grave (she's still alive and only 65) that he'll NEVER, EVER subject himself to such verbal abuse again. And his back seat 'companions' were his 15 year old son & his girlfriend! :-O

hey stnick (santa) thanks for the feedback on your quad. My question to you is on the pace-edwards roll top cover. This is the model I have at the top of my list and I'm wondering what's good, what's bad and what to look out for if I do buy one. I.E. - any water leakeage as I'll be doing plenty of snowboard trips to the hills and we get some rain every now and then in sunny so cal (can you say el nino) also does the cover eliminate space in what is already a shortened bed? how does the tailgate lock work? keeps out dem bad guys without too much hassle on the operator's part? finally someone on this board posted that if you're getting the line0x spray on you should fit the toneau cover first to check the footprint of the spray liner with the bed cover - how tough was the pace to install? holes drilled in the rails or side, clamp on, or....? thanks!
  • towcrazy2towcrazy2 Member Posts: 337
ASTA: I'm the one who suggested fitting the tonneau rails BEFORE having the liner sprayed. In my case, the tonneau was a Fold-a-Cover, but I suspect that the Roll-a-Cover also utilizes rails and overlaps the top of the tailgate to some extent.

I installed the cover, penned a line along the back edge where it overlaps the gate top, then removed the cover from the rails before taking it in for the spray liner. The installer masked along the pen line, then sprayed over the rails and tailgate to that point. The result is not only very clean looking edges, but also a more water-resistant tonneau fit.

I suspect that you could follow the same procedure with your installation, and would highly recommend the addition time and effort.

    Good luck!
  • astaasta Member Posts: 122
thanks for the tip towcrazy2! I have no idea how difficult the roll-n-lock cover is to install and whether it's a doityourselfer, i.e. hardware that is semi-exclusive to the company making the cover. doubt it, though, based on having seen most covers. I wonder if the Line-X installer would suggest this in advance of installation. if so, that would be a smart place to have it done. did you get the Line-X and if so, what was your installation price/time. Somehow I knew the (stnick) would lead to the Santa thing. Just know there won't be any presents. To themacguy, the trip was actually fairly comfortable, with one exception. first, most of the occupants were not large. 1 wife 1?? lbs, 1 son 145lbs ,and 3 grand daughters, 16, 13, an 10. The 10 year old mostly rode center front. Not much seat there, couldn't use cup holders, or center arm rest. Usually stopped 150 or so miles to stretch, refresh, and stop the whining etc. Please know I personally wouldn't care to travel with 6 very often, but this was necessary and it worked out ok. The back seat room was comfy I guess, as most of them slept most of the way. Nice thing was that after the trip, still had new truck smell, not that vacation smell ya know?
To Asta, to answer you questions, the PE cover takes up about 9" square of the front of your bed. you still have some space below the canister for storage. There are 2 drains from the canister bottom that must be drilled for the hoses. mounting is fairly simple. I used screws to fasten the rails which attach on the inside near top of the box. You can also purchase PE's clamp mount kit, although its pricey, $175-185.00. So far the only leaks have been at the rear corners of the top at the tailgate. Very minimal. The power bolt lock connects to your power door locks, so you only need one key for the roll top cover. However, PE has stopped shipping lock because of problem mating with Dakota's lock mechanism. I modified my lock to cure the problem, and it works fine. Of coarse if they want in bad enough, they'l get in. Regards.

thanks newquad! That sounds like a competitive price from what I've heard. 30 min. is fast! i thought it was more like a few hours for full application. did you do what towcrazy suggested and fit the cover first then pull it off and have them spray to that edgeline?

    ASTA,
For what it's worth, my spray liner installer did NOT suggest pre-installing the tonneau rails, markeing the footprint of the tonneau, then removing and masking per the marks and up to the tonneau rail. Normally, he would simply spray up to the horizontal edge of the bed railas and tailgate, and leave it at that.

HOWEVER... After he saw the results of pre-installing the tonneau and taking a bit of time to mark and mask the footprint, he was CONVERTED... In fact, he has digitals of my installation to use as a sales tool for future installs.

By the way... Mine's a Rhino liner, though the cure time for Rhino vs. Line X is the same... The making tape they use has piano wire imbedded for a clean break through the rather thick material.

Need anything else or digital shots, give me a holler! I'll be hanging around, waiting for the Borla cat-back to arrive for the next leg of the customizing thing.

Happy Monday to all! (If, indeed, that's possible!)

Asta, I don't have a tonneau cover- I carry two German Shepherds in crates in the back! Eventually, I am getting a cap, so they sprayed it for that. Did it over the tailgate edge, and over the front edge. I have an under the rail spray on. I am so impressed with the spray in liner- never will I have a drop in again!

    STNICK

Like you I bought my 2001 Quad of the dealers lot with out fog lights. I was considering ordering the kit also. How was the installation? Did your quad require cutting out the mounting holes in the flaring as mine will?

    Thanks for your help

I am also contemplating getting Line X for my new Quad and was wondering if the liner covered the drain holes in the front of the bed. If I get it I want to insure they stay open.

quadenit:good questiion,I would "think"they would keep the drain holes open.By temp. plugging them.

That reminds me of a question of my own:
I Have the Mopar drop in liner. The only think that bothers me is the "Lake" that forms after a heavy rain.Has anyone addressed this?If so what did you do?

Hey guys - got the official order confirmation from my dealer today and the priority code is 01. I take it this is a good thing? Because I'm such a lazy slacker, I want to throw out a few ordering questions that have already been answered on the board but I have no idea where and what number post.

    1) farm discount: is it still in effect or not? Vehicle was ordered today (8/28) and I should take delivery, according to my friendly dealer rep, in4-6 weeks.

1a) follow-up to 1 - did I need to mention the farm bureau discount to the dealer rep at the time he ordered it? Or can they still tack it on? I put down a 500 deposit and have not actually purchased the vehicle until it comes in.

    2) what are the various order code configs and what should I be looking for now that D/C's computers have been notified of my order?

Ahhhhh, to think I was just enjoying from a distant valley what all you quadders (especially the 4x4 guys) have seen from the highest mountaintop (too much, I know, but I did get an A in creative writing, ok)

finally, thanks to stnick for the p/e info. 9 inches sounds like a lot to lose and an already short bed, but you did say there is still storage under the cannister, so that's sorta ok. how durable is the actuall cover that you slide back and forth on a daily basis? is it made of aluminum or carbon fiber blend? assume it's very light and strong so no bad guys can get in. would be a bit concerned about durablity over the long haul and rust and/or decay on the rails for the cover to slide on. guess I gotta go see one for myself before I jump in.

    thanks.

I had Line-X spray in put in my truck soon after I got it. No, they did not seal my drain holes in the front and I have no problems. I really like it and it seem to be very durable. I have an under the rail job with the tail gate protector, cost me $350 in Kansas City. I had a Ford with a drop in and would never go back after this spray in.
