victx------> I installed a Alpine CDA-D852 in my '00 model....DIN&1/2, No Install Kit needed...Looks great and fills the entire OEM Hole... I'd be willing to bet you that it will fit perfect in the 2001 because the Faceplate is a little smaller than the Dash-Trim opening...Even with the "rounded" corners on the '01... Ill snap a couple of digi-pics and email them to you...If you want to drive up to NC, Ill even pop mine out and you can give it a whirl in yours to see how it looks and sounds....
As far as Speakers...I havent taken the panels off yet but am quite sure that they are the 6 1/2"S (or 6 3/4").....Like 99% of all MOPAR vehicles...BEWARE...a plain 6 1/2 will NOT fit in the opening without an adapter ring if they are truely 6 1/2S's...6 1/2's will fall through the opening...Unless you want to go with a Component type system, i doubt you will find a better full range speaker than what it in it from the factory...Trust me, ive been looking and listening...
Ive been talking with MTX about a thunderForm for the Quad....The make a colormatched one with (2) 10" Subs and a built in Amp for the club... I was told that they would have (2) ready for the Quad "Shortly"...One with a pair of 10's and one with a pair of 12's!!!! Ill definitly go with the pair of 12's with the Amp (Expect around $400-$600 for the setup) They have one with a pair of 10's for the Club Cab right now that you can check out i believe in Crutchfield...

PIRAT---As far as the boxer for a family pet...I have had them all my life...IMHO they are one of the best breeds for families especial with small kids and babies...You wont be disappointed..Plus they LOVE to ride in QUADS...In the cab of course....
All---> I haave seen/sat and driven in the 2001 model both with the cloth and leather...In my opinion, im glad i ordered a 2000 when i did and didnt wait for the 2001 or i'd still be kicking myself in the ol' [non-permissible content removed]...BUT thats just personal preference...I like the more rounded and flowing door panels and dash in the 00 than the boxy, straight ones in the 2001...I definitly did not like that door armrest...

Any input would be helpful as these are mods I have in mind for Red Hauler.
One other note - my guy had a spanking new bright silver metallic up on the showroom and it looked so good in the SLT (chrome). I was all set on the Bronze but I might just go silver after all. Looks a bit cleaner with the new wheels, which are killer BTW, and melds nicer with the gray fascia. Can't really go wrong with silver, bronze or pat blue, my 3 fave colors. new mirrors are squeezed and less obtrusive, while still affording plenty of scan area. I can see why some buyers are dismayed by the new interior changes, I personally think the changes are better, even with the aesthetic compromises. will post this week with my final specs. BTW: anyone out there get the 3.92 axle and regret it on either gas mileage or speed and handling????

I tried this myself tonight and it didn't work for me either. I also tried to change the one button push from unlocking all doors to just the driver's door with no luck there either. My wife was wondering what the heck all the horn beeping was!!!
Any suggestions out there?

A quick question. On the rear doors, once locked do you always have to slide the lock lever before you can open the door from the inside. This is not the case for the front doors and was just wonder about the rear doors.
Thanks again to everyone for the great forum.
Turn the key from off to on 4 times ending in the on position. The dash will go through its startup sequence and chime a number of times. When it is done, lock and unlock the doors with the power switch on the driver door. You should hear one chime.
Now when I push the unlock button on the remote keyless entry once, it unlocks all four doors. Since the vehicle locks all doors at 15 mph, you don't have to worry about unintentionally leaving the vehicle unlocked while driving.
Manhattan2:I had hoped the front rotors and breaks would have improved since "96".I had to replace the rotors and pads at 18,000 miles on my 1500 Ram 4x4,unbelievable $$.Traded my "98" Dakota with 11,000 miles(someone else can worry)so I didn't have to deal with that. Now you got me thinking again, same old same old with the 2000 QC's (4x4).Thats just great.I'll have to keep an eye on them, thanks for the reminder.
Allen-
Few days ago I did another fill-up with a premium gas. I've got 16.5 mpg. comparing to less than 15 on a regular gas. As I said, no knocking or valves rutting. I think I would like to continue using better gas, but I am not sure what can happen to the engine or injectors. Has anybody thought about it. My gas mileage is little bit lower because I have a cup and some load on the back and sometimes latters on the top. Talking about brakes, I can feel some shaking when breaking (what a rhythm). I've mentioned it to my dealer, when I had 12.500 miles on it and he said: "Too late" Warranty only 12000 miles. Isn't it ridiculous? Someone said they need to be turned. It's not going to help, because when you turn them they become thiner and they will warp even faster. Now if I want to have smooth breaking I should replace the rotors. That pisses me off, so hurry guys before it's too late. On the other hand we, as users could make it a factory recall and get them do it for free. Who said breaks are good only for 12000 miles, but we probably have no chance, because they going to say we drive to strong or some other b.s. as they always do. Thanks for support in my boxer. I've made my mind and I'am picking my puppy on the Labor Day weekend. It's a pity we don't have a boxer discussion group so we could exchange our experiences. I hope he'll be a great dog. Thanks for attention.
I will also go with component speakers up front, Pioneer TSC 1653. They fit oversized applications (6 3/4). I had these on my last car and was very happy with them. Per your recommendation I may just stay with the stock rear speakers.
Anyone who finds a resolution on disabling the keyless entry horn honk, please post. BTW is this something new for '01 or was it on the '00s also. Were there problems with this on the '00s.
Second tank of gas is 18.3 mpg so far (4.7 5spd, 3.55, 4x4) :P

California Concepts. This was one of the worst experiences in my life. I ordered the cover and was told they would call me when it came in. I still had not heard anything a month later so I called them up and my sales guy, Aaron, told me to come on down because they were holding it for me. I jumped in my new QC and raced down. When I got there it turned out they had ordered the wrong cover. They order the cover for the Ram Quad Cab. Aaron told me he would rush the next delivery and it should be down in a week. I said ok give me a call. One week later no call, so I called up and Aaron didn't even know what I was talking about. I was mad. They had charged my credit card 6 weeks prior and I still was no closer to getting my cover. I cancelled the order with Aaron and he threatened me. He stated that he had been in jail previously and wasn't afraid to go back. I had to contact my credit card company to get my refund because Aaron would not process the refund. I called to complain to the management and Aaron answered the phone and claimed to be the manager on duty. I finally just gave up. Recently I saw someone post in this forum and mention calconcepts.com. Be cautious if you order anything from this company.
Outside a that: everything's gonna be all right.
And a hearty 'welcome to the club.' I feel greatly satisfied that you're now one of us:
"The many; the happy; the Quadders!" ;-P
I have a '00 QC (5.9, 4X4)... Decided on a Borla cat-back in late July and ordered it through an outfit in Dallas called The Off-Road Shop... They fell down on the order, and made no attempt to follow through with Borla so I cancelled and reordered through a local retailer here in Michigan.
Expect to pay $500-plus for the Borla. It's a stainless steel setup (versus "aluminized" steel) and you pay for it. Also, expect 3-5 weeks on delivery time... Due to limited demand for the QC, it's still considered a "special order" rather than a production system at Borla.
Anyway... I'm expecting my system in about 3 weeks. Will probably be doing the install myself, and switching to a K&N filter at that time.
Once the unit arrives and installation is underway, would be happy to supply digitals of the installation along with impressions.
JAALFS: Your miserable experience with California Concepts on the Roll-a-Cover sounds very similar to mine with The Off-Road Shop on the Borla. I found their incompetence intollerable... But perhaps I was "lucky" in not having to deal with both incompetence and hostility as you did! Suffice to say, I CAN RELATE!
Let's hope these are just isolated experiences, learn from mistakes and get on with it!
Its apparent that you've had "conversations" about this vehicle but I didn't notice the transmission being specified on your last post - just wondering.
Well, 1600+ miles on my '01 QC and all is peachy. (4.7 5-speed LSD 2wd T&H Sport+) Unless the overhead console is lying to me I get around 21 MPG on the highway (and I mean all highway). I haven't done much "city" driving in a while. The 5-speed is one of the smoothest I've ever shifted, and is definitely the smoothest I've encountered in a truck.
-Chris
The MPG difference between the two transmissions seems to be harder to gauge because of the different driving styles. In south central PA there a lot of hills and many times I keep it in 4th gear until I get to a flat stretch. Also, its real easy to red-line the 4.7L while getting up to highway speed. Around 3,000 rpm, this engine really starts to take-off and before you know it you can easily be into the danger-zone.
One of the hardest things to do with the 5 sp is drive around town while eating an ice cream cone. Other than that, I love it.
Did not order subj when the Quad was built. Can anyone tell me if it can be installed by the dealer. My parts guy looked in his books and could not tell. I do have the pwr conv grp.
Tks Allen
I installed the cover, penned a line along the back edge where it overlaps the gate top, then removed the cover from the rails before taking it in for the spray liner. The installer masked along the pen line, then sprayed over the rails and tailgate to that point. The result is not only very clean looking edges, but also a more water-resistant tonneau fit.
I suspect that you could follow the same procedure with your installation, and would highly recommend the addition time and effort.
Good luck!
To Asta, to answer you questions, the PE cover takes up about 9" square of the front of your bed. you still have some space below the canister for storage. There are 2 drains from the canister bottom that must be drilled for the hoses. mounting is fairly simple. I used screws to fasten the rails which attach on the inside near top of the box. You can also purchase PE's clamp mount kit, although its pricey, $175-185.00. So far the only leaks have been at the rear corners of the top at the tailgate. Very minimal. The power bolt lock connects to your power door locks, so you only need one key for the roll top cover. However, PE has stopped shipping lock because of problem mating with Dakota's lock mechanism. I modified my lock to cure the problem, and it works fine. Of coarse if they want in bad enough, they'l get in. Regards.
For what it's worth, my spray liner installer did NOT suggest pre-installing the tonneau rails, markeing the footprint of the tonneau, then removing and masking per the marks and up to the tonneau rail. Normally, he would simply spray up to the horizontal edge of the bed railas and tailgate, and leave it at that.
HOWEVER... After he saw the results of pre-installing the tonneau and taking a bit of time to mark and mask the footprint, he was CONVERTED... In fact, he has digitals of my installation to use as a sales tool for future installs.
By the way... Mine's a Rhino liner, though the cure time for Rhino vs. Line X is the same... The making tape they use has piano wire imbedded for a clean break through the rather thick material.
Need anything else or digital shots, give me a holler! I'll be hanging around, waiting for the Borla cat-back to arrive for the next leg of the customizing thing.
Happy Monday to all! (If, indeed, that's possible!)
Like you I bought my 2001 Quad of the dealers lot with out fog lights. I was considering ordering the kit also. How was the installation? Did your quad require cutting out the mounting holes in the flaring as mine will?
Thanks for your help
Rhys
That reminds me of a question of my own:
I Have the Mopar drop in liner. The only think that bothers me is the "Lake" that forms after a heavy rain.Has anyone addressed this?If so what did you do?
Allen-
1) farm discount: is it still in effect or not? Vehicle was ordered today (8/28) and I should take delivery, according to my friendly dealer rep, in4-6 weeks.
1a) follow-up to 1 - did I need to mention the farm bureau discount to the dealer rep at the time he ordered it? Or can they still tack it on? I put down a 500 deposit and have not actually purchased the vehicle until it comes in.
2) what are the various order code configs and what should I be looking for now that D/C's computers have been notified of my order?
Ahhhhh, to think I was just enjoying from a distant valley what all you quadders (especially the 4x4 guys) have seen from the highest mountaintop (too much, I know, but I did get an A in creative writing, ok)
finally, thanks to stnick for the p/e info. 9 inches sounds like a lot to lose and an already short bed, but you did say there is still storage under the cannister, so that's sorta ok. how durable is the actuall cover that you slide back and forth on a daily basis? is it made of aluminum or carbon fiber blend? assume it's very light and strong so no bad guys can get in. would be a bit concerned about durablity over the long haul and rust and/or decay on the rails for the cover to slide on. guess I gotta go see one for myself before I jump in.
thanks.
