but a legacy could offer enough power, comfort and useability... yeah.
-Colin
it only means that outback will look very different from legacy ?

P.S. I've been a good boy
I like what I'm reading! Can't wait until the 5/23 unveiling!
I wonder how big of a USDM filter Subaru will put on the Legacy when it makes it Stateside.
Colin -- Hey, what happened to the XT? ;-)
Ken
yeah that's the story I'm sticking with. :-)
-Colin
I'm hoping we'll see real improvements there as well. I'm hoping the base 2.5 engine gets more power, as well as the 5-speed automatic; although I've read that the 4-EAT may remain for entry-level models. I hope that's not the case.
Pricing? That's always a big issue. How much new and/or upgraded content can SOA squeeze in, without charging too much?

1. aluminum hood
2. no alloy wheels etc.
3. no raised roof line
Reduce the weight by 300 lbs.....good to go !
-mike
most of the weight savings would have to come from the chassis & body, that's where it is!
-Colin
Perhaps they can use the AVCS EJ25 with the new Legacy.
Ken
Under 3200lb curb weight for the sedan would be nice, too.
-Colin
The wagon's cargo space looks improved - there is more space between the headrests and the rear glass.
Give the base Legacy the aluminum hood and a 180hp 2.5l AVCS engine. One single big moonroof as an option, at least.
Use alloys, the car will be in a price range where those are expected. Even my bargain-basement cast alloys, an inch wider and an inch taller, are as light as the steelies were.
C&D hit 60 in 8.8 seconds in an L/SE, and those are heavy with all that equipment they come with. So lose 150 lbs or so and it'll be fine.
With 180hp I think the base model would be in the low 8s range. Then a 210hp turbo or the 240hp H6 in an intermediate model would be quick, maybe 7s range. The H6 twin turbo would be in the 5s range with the big boys.

Boo, nonsense. The VDC flopped. Stick with what has worked - bang for the buck, performance, not luxury.
A crossover, more like an SUV ... seven-passenger car, which was called SGX
So it had a code name, SGX. But that was the GM platform, so we still don't know much about the new one.
each model reached its breakeven point
Baja too? It's below its sales target of 2k per month, about half that. It may still be profitable though.
target for 2006 is to have 76 percent exclusive, including separate showrooms
Good luck, pigs will fly sooner. It'll cost dealers a fortune to do this, and Subaru is still a niche brand.
the platform of the seven-passenger car could give us a very good flagship car
Interesting. B11S? No, he meant sedan. Flagship the size of an Audi A8, anyone? This could be paisan's dream car.

Like I said I see the SUW, B11s and B8s (luxo sedan/sport) all off that platform. It's wide enough to be adapatable to the SUW, Sports coupe and Touring Sedan.

Invoices on the XT range from $23,323 to $25,612, so IMO by the end of the year those are the prices we'll be seeing.
For 23.3k, a manual XT is a no-brainer, but still I want that moonroof, maybe $24.5k or so.
Go whole hog and it's getting up there in price, but then what else offers all that?
-juice
I still want to know what drivetrain and suspension changes are in the XT, though.
Ken
Thanks for posting the info. I was about to ask if anyone has heard any info on price and availability for the Forester XT, and here you post the link! A friend at work keeps bugging me for info-he is a long time Subaru owner (he is on his 5th now).

I am an unabashed fan of the Legacy generally (we have 2), and I am very excited about the new design. Obviously I will want to see drivetrain choices and pricing, but at least now I have a goal to aim for as I patiently pay off my BD and then drive it for a couple more years to build a downpayment. I hope that by 2006 I can finally, after 7 years of waiting, take possession of a Legacy turbo wagon MT.
Now I just need to find patience-booster pills!
I don't know if you all continued to follow the nabisco threads after the inital excitement. Here is a titillating comment from Paul regarding a possible H6 turbo:
"I think there is indeed a possibility - but...
Why don't you at least try the h4 2.5 turbo first? Trust me, the 2.0 turbocharged models had more power than I can use outside a racetrack - the 2.5 is probably going to be even more wooly. There is literally no frame of reference between what is currently available in the U.S. right now, and what's coming. If you want to get a feel for it, go drive a, hrm... Base Corvette, I guess. That's a bit too quick, but the problem is finding something with the quality chassis/suspension setup the Legacy has along with the power. Audis have the power, but not the suspension."
Sure Paul, no problem, I'll gladly give a 2.5T MT a whirl!!!! :-D
I've been following the NAISOC threads too, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to wait long enough for replacing one of those with my Forester. It might have to happen with my wife's car instead.
Ken
does it include Outback ?
The Legacy has a flat roof and will get turbos. Sweet.
Now, for the Outback, make it H6 only. Keep the H6 exclusive, that's what'll identify the model. Also, go ahead and give it a raised roof and keep the jacked-up beefy suspension, even more so.
But not turbos, it doesn't fit the image of an SUV alternative. Quick, name one SUV with a turbo.

I bet they would sell more OUtback turbos than Baja Turbos, then why not ?
I would prefer an outback Turbo to a Forester Turbo !
Diesel was cheating! ;-)
The Volvo XC90 is the exception that proves the rule! And ask paisan if he would qualify that as a "truck".
XC70 and allroad are wagons. Car, a UK magazine, said the UK Forester turbo was much better off road than both of them.

I knew you would say diesel was cheating. :-)
