It's amazing all the nice work they did with this redesign but they didn't add the folding rear seat. I guess they figure if you want the utility of that, you should buy the wagon?
Gary: nope. That was missing. There is a big pass through, though. The rep at the stand was a petite woman, she actually climbed through herself, all the way!
The wagons, of course, do, and now they fold without having to remove the seat base.
The 6 has an ingenious button and a spring loaded seat back, so you press a button from the rear of the vehicle and it folds by itself. I actually took a photo and will upload it later.
I am a regular @ NASIOC, and it's good to hear some things "straight from the horses mouth".
First I noticed, rsholland and 'juice' mentioned, you guys thought you were looking at an Outback chassis? Why? the tires? and??
That's kind of good, because I am one of those complaining about the bumpers that were on there...which I hypothesized were the Outback bumpers also over on the NASIOC board. Hopefully this is the case, they definately do not do the "flow" of the car justice...like the JDM model's do, who are are awesome right of the bat.
One more question, and it does not appear to me they've been included, but the JDM and EDM models have incorporate rear fog lamps into the backup lamps, I'd guess this is not/will not be true for UDSM models? Anyone notice?
For the SOA peep who read this board, please take note.
Great job juice and rsholland! It's nice to get such detail, both in your reporting and the pics. I'm now practically a dead lock for a Legacy 2.5GT (or maybe even the Limited). Now to settle in for the long wait. My poor Forester S used to seem like such a great little car. *sighs*
Why? The show is huge, and there are so many new debuts.
To see everything in one day, and to digest it all is really tough. Juice and I were exhausted at the end of the day. We were there from noon until around 7:45 in the evening. It was one long day. I would have loved to go back for a second day to really look at the vehicles that held special interest for me.
To do it all in one day is like cramming for an exam. You're looking, taking pictures, grabbing brochures; it's tough...
Why did you waste time with food & sleep? Next time we send you two on assignment (assuming we ever do again, considering your poor performance), you had better come back with more!!!
Man, Consumer's Guide is full of mistakes, lots of them. Engine actually makes more power than in the Forester. It'll probably be here before June. 5 speed auto is for the GT only, 2.5i gets a 4 speed auto. Side curtain air bags are not exclusive to the GT.
Makes you wonder how accurate they are about other stuff...
So CR bounced back to the RAV4? They keep leap frogging each other. RAV4 got a 2.4l engine and stability control this year. Maybe it's time for Subaru to up the ante? At least give it the 168hp engine and maybe VDC?
Cars.com says $21k for a base Legacy to $30k for a loaded Outback. That would be a better value than today's lineup by far. I hope they're right.
Ice Blue Metallic could be an interesting color...
FOOD? You call that stuff at the Cobo Center food?
The Pizza tasted like "socks", one person in our group said. The hot dogs tasted like cardboard. Old, soggy card board. And that's being nice.
Sleep? The night before, I had so much adrenaline that I didn't really sleep. We were up until almost 2am, at least I was. Didn't sleep much after that, either! I was so pumped up.
I'm gonna keep adding photos to that album, keep in mind it'll include all vehicles, including Bob's 2005 Legacy pics, hopefully some full shots of the cars.
Did you and Bob have time to look at anything without a camera in front of your face???? You guys were BUSY ! Thanks so much for all the info and the pics and all the time you've spent since you've been back putting up the stuff for US!
I have been silently watching the message boards for more info on the 2005 laegacy. You guys out did my expectations...now all i have to do is wait for my first subie and oh my what a subie!!

I don't know about that. My '97 Civic coupe has this function. ;-)

Juice - is there a pass through??

just for that moonroof & place for cargo cover, wagon is tempting......i will have to decide:
between:
forestet XT
leg W GT
OB W H6
i hope forested LLbean will come with nav & HIDs
i have a feeling they'll continue OB sedan with H6........
The tires were 225/55x17. The GT takes 215/45x17. Also, it had the H-6 engine and different wheels.

Thankfully we have Ken to mop up after them. ;-)
Ok, seriously - Our gratitude for a thorough job!

Nice guy, actually. Sat next to him on the cab ride to the air port, and spoke with him a lot after that, too.
BTW, I always pronounced it wrong, it's not SOOB-driven, it's just sub-driven.

OK, I'm just getting started, but the first 20 or so are in this album:

Juice- Don't the Legacy 2.5i and the Forester XS share the same engine with the 3 hp difference attributable to the dual exhaust?
-Frank P.
Let's talk about non-Subies in the Cafe, and keep this topic focused on the Legacy. Sound good?
Saabaru is a Subaru, so:

I love a good conspiracy theory. That's a preview of the Chicago debut of the OB. Wonder if that will get Nav?

The XT totally deserves it.
