My on board nav directed me to two pretty much unmarked free charging stations at Mohegan Sun. Of course, a non-electric was parked in one of the spots. But, the next day a Tesla was charging in it. As I had a full charge, I moved my car to a regular spot and returned to the casino to continue to donate to the reparations fund.

What are the laws regarding non EVs parking in a charging station slot? Can you get them ticketed, towed or do you just key the heck out of them?

I know. Shocking how low some dealers are. The BMW dealer I used is a big one (owned by Penske) and when I checked the other day…10 3 series.

Yesterday the CDJR dealer had 1 Grand Cherokee L, 2 Gladiators and 0 Wranglers. Looked like they had a handful of Ram’s but they were in back. Fair amount of used inventory though and heavy on the trucks.

It might be useful at this stage if there was a list somewhere of those manufacturers/models that are still being produced. I was in an area of town today that I don't often get to these days and the Subaru, Hyundai, M-B and Toyota dealers all seemed to have plenty of inventory. But other brands have mostly empty lots.

I think those are the same Bridgestones I have on the Tundra. They are poor in the snow and somewhat iffy in rain. You probably did the right thing putting something better on during most or all of the lease. I think I will get through my lease without them wearing out.

killing time I was wondering about inventory. Nearby Toyota dealer has 88 cars listed in new inventory, including 16 tacos. Only one with pictures, so who knows where the rest are!

did discover they have a pretty slick on-line modelling and purchase application that I tried out. Pick the car, and model all your finance and purchase options. click on years and miles (for a lease) and a slider for $ DAS and see your payment. Apparently there is also a button to "buy now" but I decided not to click on that!

seems that they are at least selling at MSRP, since that was used for both purchase or lease. Better than a lot of places.

was surprised that the leases were not as absurd as a lot these days (though not as good as the glory days of that one bank). a 4 door SR5, MSRP ~$39,100 was a 36/10 of $442 with $1,100 DAS. A TRD sport premium, sticker a touch over $45k, was about $512 with same DAS.

not that far off the 1% target. I probably should have driven one of those at some point (still plenty of time!) since the Maverick is probably going to lease out at about the same as the SR5.

My best friend owns a few restaurants. One of his delivery vehicles (2019 Prius L Eco w/ 80K miles) was sitting in a parking lot that filled up with water during Ida. It drove for 3 days, then had a “hybrid system failure” light when they went to drive it the 4th day. Water seeped into the carpet, and made its way into the hybrid battery pack. Car is totaled. He’s trying to decide what he should replace the Prius with as a secondary delivery vehicle. He also has a 2020 Corolla Hybrid as a primary delivery vehicle.

He might go with another Prius, although there aren’t any L Eco models in our area. He might go with an SR Tacoma (Access Cab/Long Bed 4cyl) for about the same price.

One dealer he called is getting $2K above sticker on all vehicles (plus an $800 conveyance fee). Another dealer is getting sticker for every car (plus a $1000 conveyance fee).

the Maverick reservation/ordering system is actually a good thing now. I don't think any dealers are able to surcharge, because buyers will just move on to the next place that isn't. I was surprised to see this Toyota dealer selling at sticker.

speaking about Maverick, I was debating with the wife whether I should have added more options (meaning spend more money!) Her opinion was she would have just gotten everything, just in case. Lady must be made of money I don't know about! So I emailed the contact at my dealer, asking if they could make any changes to my order (even though they accepted it with a build date and VIN).

I figured No, and he confirmed it, but said he was happy to order an "additional" one for me. I did not Email back to make sure, but seems that I would not have to cancel the first one. I guess dealer is happy to guarantee at least 1 stock unit out of me! Not sure what Ford will think about it though since require a DL so would be easy to tell they were double booking me.

Don't think I will but could always change my mind at any point and do it.

@nyccarguy - would a Prius Prime or used Volt be beneficial for your friend (especially if he has a location to charge them)?
  • nyccarguynyccarguy Member Posts: 16,373

At another location, he does have a Prius Prime which gets a solid 10 mpg better than the Prius L Eco. The Prime doesn’t have a spare tire and doesn’t have a fully flat floor with the seats folded.

He’s owned/leased way too many GM cars to trust them for his business.

I don’t HAVE to get the speedo recalibrated, but I probably will. I wasn’t going to worry about the speed differential, but it would appear to be messing with the TPMS. Was reading about 7-8% lower than what my manual gauge tells me.

    Depends on the MSRP

    Sahara & High Altitude

7.5 off for less than $58,500
8 off for up to $60,500
8.5 off for more than $60,500

Rubicons are 7.5 or 8 off depending on the MSRP

It’s definitely not the cheapest deal out there. Especially since there is a bump in money factor. The dealer is 1 state away and I won’t have to pay for shipping.

So they aren’t as cheap as @28firefighter’s deal for sure. I think there have been 2 MSRP price hikes and some optional equipment made standard since he ordered his. Considering what’s going on as far as automotive sales with a lot of Cars going for MSRP or even MSRP plus. Also it’s a Wrangler which means it will hold its value quite well. It’s the deal in this market.

And this is probably why it makes sense for this dealer to sell Mavericks for the seemingly crazy price of 4% below invoice. A certain number of people will change their order, or just not complete their purchase, and then they have a Maverick to sell in this market where a new vehicle is quite valuable.

For what little it's worth, I feel like you should stick with your current Maverick. You still have payments on the RDX for a few years, and so unless you're made of money it seems like it makes sense to keep the payments somewhat lower on the second vehicle. With the discount you got, you're only a few thousand above your goal of 25k. But with TTL the real price of your Maverick will be close to 30k. And before that weren't you thinking of getting a low-cost used car so that you wouldn't have two big car payments at the same time? Seems like what's more important than heated seats is just having a good vehicle that might help with a potential move. And as the chip shortage gets worse, it's not clear how easy it will be to get another Maverick if you let this one go.

The broker i used is 10% off for $60k+ builds. So an extra 2%, which is $1200, which is more than I paid for shipping, fyi. It is shipping and broker fee combined, however. BUT, $250 doc fee helps AND sold order protection, meaning the sale price, RV, and MF are locked at time of order. I have yet to find another dealer willing to do that.

I always wondered how you recalibrate the speedo on a modern car. Is it as simple as tweaking it with a scan tool? I think in the old days it involved changing gears or something on the cable.

Yes on the old way. And yes on the new way, but not just any scan tool. I can buy one for $155, but seems excessive when the dealer would do it for a similar price. So I’ll likely just have them do it when I take it in for the updates @28firefighter mentioned.

Speaking of the local MB dealer, they have a 2011 G-Wagen for 80K. I know the market is nuts, but this is also nuts. It is a pristine car, but wow.

I’m seriously racking my brain trying to decide if there is a play here with the Outback.

    Three ideas:
Model 3 SR+ if I can find one - short term play that we would eventually flip.

I'm open to a lot. If I don't keep the wagon, I will probably lean towards a truck or SUV, due to winters here and some local road conditions. Lease is up in March.

Pros of the wagon: comfortable good looking rare car, I should easily have ~10K in equity if I buy it for the residual, lowish miles, has a set of snow tires/wheels, hardwired dashcam is set up, etc

Cons: still dear, white paint isn't chip-repellant, maintenance costs, I feel like I am abusing it on some road surfaces here

I know even in this market, some trucks especially can have decent lease deals, but then I'd have to migrate the dashcam, but would also have half the monthly bill.

Flipping it is tempting too, wonder if it would be worth the effort, or if I'd have seller's remorse.
