Question: Negotiating a New Car Price

Hello,

I'm in the market to buy a new Honda Pilot EX-L or even a used Honda Pilot EX-L. I did all my research about negotiating a car price by watching youtube videos, reading magazine articles, and online articles. I'm following every step in the book. I'm doing this by calling up different dealerships and emailing them. I'm requesting best price quotes in writing and justifying why they should lower the price. I spoke to at least 9 dealerships.
I don't know why but dealerships whether it's for new cars or used cars are just not negotiating. I'm being told it's because of chip shortage and they are having issues bringing in new inventory. But then when I research used cars then they tell me it's "no haggle price". They also tell me they don't want to lower the price on used cars just because the customers are good negotiators. Dealerships are complimenting me on my efforts that I'm a smart shopper and doing the best I can to get a great deal. Even then they are not negotiating.
Is anyone else having this issue? What is going on? I know people negotiate on cars all the time and end up paying below the advertised price. Why is it not working out when I try?

Astonishingly, everything the dealers are telling you is true. It's a supply/demand issue.

It's ridiculous. Lot of these vehicles are being sold way over MSRP. When is this chip shortage issue going to be resolved? I'm wondering if it's worth waiting to get a great deal.

If you don’t need a car now, it makes sense to wait. May be late next year - or longer - before supply rebounds.
