I’ve given up reading most reviews. Based on that, you would never buy any brand of anything! I’ll just assume a higher line WP will clean well enough, and the 47 DB rating is accurate, that we can live with it. Just needs to work as well as a 10 YO KA (when it is working).
I might care more if I wasn’t still hoping to move in the next year or so.

Well done stick. 3 years ago our Florida DW broke down. There was a shortage of some makes then, we wanted a Bosch. Got a Maytag at Home Depot. It took 10 days to deliver, and when it arrived the door had a big dent. It took another week to get a good one. We had to wash dishes by hand for almost 3 weeks! I felt like we were the Waltons.
The Maytag works fine, I don't like the rack arrangement as much, but American DWs have better grinders.
My BIL says his granddaughter got a new house with her boyfriend, when they put dishes in the dishwasher they don't bother to scrape them off. Young people think dishwashers grind everything on the plate up.
When we got our Samsung DW in 2011 (when Sears gave us full purchase price for a Kenmore that crapped out 3 months out of warranty), the salesman raved and I mean raved about how well it chopped up food and how much water is saved by not rinsing dishes before turning it on. I told him we’d buy it based on features that Mrs. j liked but I told him I’d put it to the chopping test and if it didn’t perform like he said, I’d yank it out and bring it back. So did he really want to stand on that claim? He said he did. Mrs. j interjected saying, “he’s not kidding he’ll do it”. The salesman said, “fine, put it to the test”.
So we bought it and the first time Mrs. j used it I told her to leave the dishes dirty. It work just as claimed. Mrs. j said, “are you satisfied now”? I told her yes to which she said, “it’s nice to know that it cleans dishes that aren’t rinsed but don’t expect me to do that again. I just don’t feel right doing it that way”. I guess she likes wasting water.

MB and Hyundai may not be in the same sand box, but the principle still applies. If MB, BMW and Audi keep their production low, it would take somebody like Lexus to break that cabal. Historically car manufacturers have little production discipline and if one knows their capital structure it's hardly surprising. Their economic leverage is such that marginal additional sales, as long as not overwhelming demand is where the most profits are. The issue is they have difficult time to gauge the limit. Plus so far they simply could not resist market share race, even premium brands. Would take a lot of will power to do so.
Lexus will be happy to. But I was really thinking it could be a boon to Genesis. They have the product now, and if the price delta grows bigger, and they have stock available, market share could take off.
Might even bring infinity back to life, or help out Acura.
Start the dishwasher and let it run for a minute to spray water on everything. Then open the door and close again to leave the dishwasher in HOLD mode waiting for someone to press the "Run" button.
I have to have the door open for about half a minute for my Whirlpool to go into HOLD mode; the run button light is flashing waitin for me to push it.
Let it sit for a few minutes so water can soak into the dried food. Then press the "Run" button to restart and finish the cycle.

Possibly. Doesn't take much, but it's hard to say. As long as people keep paying these silly ADM stickers and phony fees to the dealers, temptation is to capture that for themselves.

Like I said she only did it once. How else can you prove something if you don’t try it? Don’t get me wrong I won’t put my hand in a fan belt but most other things are in play. Empirical data is the best way I know how to test something. Always worked for me when I was working. It’s a tuff habit to break.

1) I think the woman driving the 4runner (thanks QB) was inebriated and made a right turn onto the golf course to get away from the police.....didn't think it through. I know you have to watch for alligators on the golf course down here but a runaway SUV? 2) I get JMonroes testing the DW one time, but after that it would bother me to put actual food into the DW, though this Maytag is supposed to grind anything into little bits. 3) Sometimes lower volume can translate into more profit, but you also want the workers working at maximum capacity, or you are paying them when they aren't working. 4) Plus, market share means a lot to a car maker. 5) Our appliance guy said you would be surprised to know how many people buy a whole new set of appliances when one goes....so that they will all be the same brand and match.
Word of advice….Whirlpool contracts service out to local service companies, no owned by Whirlpool. Some are good…some are bad. Some don’t care because they get paid regardless of whether they fix the problem or not. Used to love Whirlpool (and KitchenAid) appliances. At least on the KitchenAid side, the quality has really fallen off.
Bought and returned a KA dishwasher because it sounded like a freight train in my kitchen. KA said it was “normal”. Service people said they couldn’t fix it as it was a design flaw (which I agreed with). $1,000 DW sounding like a $200 DW? No thanks.

I really can't accept that as an excuse. Yes my GPS has made some pretty stupid and/or silly suggestions but I tend to look where I'm going and when it does something like that IO say "Nope" and keep going down the better looking path.

1) 12 mo.12k mile warranty for new 3.0L Audi Engine (I can't help but think this is Audi's way of saying screw you to non-dealerships doing the install at reasonable labor rates). 2) 5w40 Total Quartz 9000 7 Quarts Motor Oil and Oil Filter 3) 1.5L of Fresh G13 Coolant 4) Exhaust manifold gaskets 5) Seals, Gasket upper, additional seals and gaskets 6) Fuel Injector Seal Kit 7) Thermostat 8) Oil Separator 9) Coolant Pump 10) Oil Cooler Seal 11) 6 New Spark Plugs NGK 12) Haz Disposal (CA / EPA thing?) 13) Labor to replace engine was sharpened to 26 hours. Am told Longitudinal V6 is much more work than a 2.0T for example, and transverse mounted motor. Not all engines are easy to swap, The S4 is apparently a difficult time-consuming one; he said it was likely taking over 40 hours in reality. 14) Labor to transfer transmission, supercharger, components to new engine.

yes. I actually did this about a year ago. refinanced an upcoming ARM reset to a 10 year fixed at a lower rate, using the banks program where they rolled in all the costs (there might have been something small, maybe $100 for some gov't fee, but basically all rolled in). IIRC it added about 1/8th of a percent to the rate. Still a bit lower than my already low rate, but it locked me in. Since I was hoping to sell within 2-3 years anyway (and was also planning to pay it off considerably faster) it made more financial sense to grab the no fees and pay a small amount extra per month.

Pretty crude? Thats putting it mildly. What I found interesting is the ownership experience they were talking about (I knew how crude Soviet block cars were) like the wiper blades, parking and the garage issue.

No but I was with 2 US Air Force MP’s one time at a SAC base in Homestead FL when I was on a flight crew while in the Navy. That wasn’t fun either.
We were flying a Navy doctor to that base and I’m sure just to impress us they didn’t let us taxi up to the terminal so the doctor could deplane. Instead they had us hold at the end of the taxi way until a “Follow Me” truck came to get us. They had us taxi so far from the terminal you could barely see it.
The doctor had a couple heavy bags and I offered to carry one down the steps of the R4Y we were flying. The doctor said, “thanks but I don’t think they’re going to allow you to get off the plane”. I said, “doc, I’m not a spy we’re all in this together. They’ll let me help you”. The doctor said, “suit yourself”. I grabbed a bag and started down the steps. I barely stepped out of the plane onto the first step when in unison both MP’s that were on both sides at the bottom of the steps clicked the safety off their rifles turned and pointed them at me and said loudly, “BACK ON THAT PLANE SAILOR”. I backed up into the plane and said, “I tried doc”. He smiled and said, “I told ya, they like to play it up with strangers on these bases. I’ve been through this before but thanks anyhow”.
The pilot and co-pilot were laughing their you know what off but I didn’t think it was so funny. The next time we flew into a SAC base I just stayed in my seat.

Agree that leasing with such minimal yearly mileage doesn't make much sense but things could change and could be driving more in a year or two. I'm not really a used vehicle kind of guy to be honest. Have done it twice in my lifetime with the first being a total disaster while the second wasn't awful but not something I'd want to do again. Might as well buy new & just keep it for 8 to 10 years. As to our moving, we'll know within a few months what our daughter will be doing work wise. Hoping she gets a job in Orlando so we can push back our moving date a bit. Being near our other daughter & son-in-law will make it easier for her. It will take us sometime to get this place cleaned up after all these years. If she takes a job near our current house, we won't be moving as it doesn't make sense. We'd probably just do some renovation in the kitchen & master bath. Plus interior painting and replacing most of the flooring. But we're probably talking like spending $30K or so. As much as I'd like to downsize, there's not much available in our area that we could get without spending whatever we get for this place plus a bit more. Not much inventory in the $350K to $500K right now. And if we do move, we'd want new construction again most likely. So, all we can do is sit & wait till we hear some news. Our son & daughter-in-law just bought a Chicago bungalow but there's no way we're going to relocate to Chicago, think the cold weather would just be too much for us "southerner's". We left New York when I turned 15 and have been her for some 52 years. Looking at the prices in Westchester County the other day, no way we could afford to go back, taxes are just plain batsh-t crazy and again, that pesky cold weather. Luckily, we're in no hurry to do anything right now.

Sandy, I've said it before, but leasing is just a different way to finance. If you take out a car loan, you don't "own" the whole car either in reality. Even on a lease, it is still your car, you are just financing it for the lease term. At the end, if you want to keep it, you can pay it off then.
heck, if you buy it outright, you are self-financing it (basically taking money you could invest in something else, and investing it in a new car). So really, there isn't any free lunch. Money for a new car has to come from someplace! I think you just get hung up on the idea of making a monthly payment.
Oh, I agree with you on the house. If you are probably going at some point in the relatively near future, just make the place as nice as you can for you to live in and enjoy, but don't overdo it and should hopefully get more than your investment back in the end.
That's it I think...I hate owing money to anyone or anything! I couldn't wait till we finally paid the house off because having that 30 year nut hanging over me was just awful. Even waiting till months end to pay my credit card bill causes some anxiety. That's why think it's best that I pay most things with a debit card but then, I'd lose the perks that a credit card gives one on certain things. Much easier than carrying a wad of cash and have a record with either a debit or credit card of purchases. All our monthly bills come the last couple of weeks each month and I feel so much better when they are all paid off. Waiting on a $350 gift card from my wife's employer that we can use at Lowe's so we can get a new oven with burners on top. Since all our other appliances are now Whirlpool, going with them again in stainless steel to match the fridge. We'll still have the almond colored light/vent over the new oven/stove but not sure what we plan to do there yet. Also want to get a new 50" smart t v with blue tooth so I can use my headphones so it'll be quiet in the house. Like our Samsung 40" so figure we'd stick with Samsung again as they do make some excellent televisons.

Sitting in a Hyundai service lounge waiting for my ATS to be finished with its rustproofing refresh. The detailing place is part of the same huge dealer group as my GM dealer and is located in their big automall here. The Hyundai place is far nicer and newer than my Cadillac dealer, but word is out that they are relocating to a new build not far from their existing location, so in a year or so they too should have a shiny modern service lounge like this one.
Was this recently with the DW? Our Kitchen Aid is so quiet that it often gets opened when running because you don’t hear it
Yeah…about 4-5 months ago during my Edmunds “hiatus”. Had a 12 year old KA that was quiet as a church mouse. The “touchpad” kept going out on in. At first I replaced the touchpad, which required removing the entire front panel. Then, when that didn’t work, I had a “Whirlpool Service pro” come out to do it. After that proved to be a temporary fix, I decided I was not going to keep throwing money at it.
Since we liked the KA, we bought another one. Can’t remember the model number but it was their 39db one. Sounded like someone was inside with a hammer when it ran. Under warranty, “service” came out and said they could rewrap and install more insulation, but the real culprit was KA cheaped out on the door construction as well as the design of the washer arms, which had the water jets stamped “willy-nilly” instead of focused on the dish racks. The result? The arms were “jetting” as much water against the sides of the dishwasher as they were at the dish racks. With the flimsy door design and manufacture, it wasn’t even remotely close to being as quiet as my decade + old KA, let alone, one that was supposed to be the quietest on the market. I equated it to those 20 year old apartment specials that are made entirely of plastic. We could not carry on a conversation at the kitchen table, with the KA running. We literally had to yell over the sound of the DW.
Fought with KA for about 3 months. They even brought a new one out for replacement. Same result. They finally just gave me my money back.
Can’t prove it, but I think with the shutdown, they threw whatever they could on the market, because they could sell it.
The place I usually go to buy appliances and HVAC (Recker and Boerger) had some in stock, but nothing we really liked when we were shopping. They handle GE, Electrolux, Samsung, LG and I think builder quality Amana appliances.
Looked at Costco, and they had an LG we liked. It had all the bells and whistles, even an interior light. But, after looking at the display unit they had and coming home to discuss it for a week (GF needed time to think on it) it was sold out.
As luck would have it, my guy at Recker called and asked if I ever found another DW. Told him of my drama. He said he just got the higher end Bosch DW in stock, if I wanted one. He said they wouldn’t last the day. Didn’t even go look at it. Gave him my CC # and they installed it the next day. Been pleased as punch with it.

You said you had a noisy KA dishwasher. That’s not good. There are two dishwashers in our house. The Samsung is quiet but the other one gets noisy at times.

Ever since I got out of hospital after my surgery 2 weeks ago, friends and relatives have been trying to help. I really don't need much, but I appreciate the sentiment if not always the results. One former co-worker has been very concerned about making sure I have food to eat. It wasn't actually a problem as I can cook and putting a meal together for myself is something I like doing, but whatever. He has been bringing stuff over constantly. A more disappointing thing happened without my knowledge. My sister came by a few days after I got home and offered to do laundry, clean house, etc. I was happy to see her visit and stayed in my office out of the way when she was vacuuming and cleaning the hardwood floors. I recall her asking me if I had a Swiffer Wetjet (I do not) so she used a sponge mop and some sort of water/cleaner combo on them. I dunno what happened, because the hardwood in the kitchen has been down for 20 years w/o a problem, but over the next few days parts of it began to darken, especially near seams in the planks. I suspect she got it too wet, or perhaps used too strong a mix, and it got into the boards. I now have a mottled hickory hardwood floor in the kitchen. Sigh.
Yeah…about 4-5 months ago during my Edmunds “hiatus”. Had a 12 year old KA that was quiet as a church mouse. The “touchpad” kept going out on in. At first I replaced the touchpad, which required removing the entire front panel. Then, when that didn’t work, I had a “Whirlpool Service pro” come out to do it. After that proved to be a temporary fix, I decided I was not going to keep throwing money at it.
Since we liked the KA, we bought another one. Can’t remember the model number but it was their 39db one. Sounded like someone was inside with a hammer when it ran. Under warranty, “service” came out and said they could rewrap and install more insulation, but the real culprit was KA cheaped out on the door construction as well as the design of the washer arms, which had the water jets stamped “willy-nilly” instead of focused on the dish racks. The result? The arms were “jetting” as much water against the sides of the dishwasher as they were at the dish racks. With the flimsy door design and manufacture, it wasn’t even remotely close to being as quiet as my decade + old KA, let alone, one that was supposed to be the quietest on the market. I equated it to those 20 year old apartment specials that are made entirely of plastic. We could not carry on a conversation at the kitchen table, with the KA running. We literally had to yell over the sound of the DW.
Fought with KA for about 3 months. They even brought a new one out for replacement. Same result. They finally just gave me my money back.
Can’t prove it, but I think with the shutdown, they threw whatever they could on the market, because they could sell it.
The place I usually go to buy appliances and HVAC (Recker and Boerger) had some in stock, but nothing we really liked when we were shopping. They handle GE, Electrolux, Samsung, LG and I think builder quality Amana appliances.
Looked at Costco, and they had an LG we liked. It had all the bells and whistles, even an interior light. But, after looking at the display unit they had and coming home to discuss it for a week (GF needed time to think on it) it was sold out.
As luck would have it, my guy at Recker called and asked if I ever found another DW. Told him of my drama. He said he just got the higher end Bosch DW in stock, if I wanted one. He said they wouldn’t last the day. Didn’t even go look at it. Gave him my CC # and they installed it the next day. Been pleased as punch with it.
So crazy… I guess I got lucky and received a good one.
Interestingly, I have an SPL meter I use for tweaking my home theater. I took a dishwasher reading of the KA while running. It was supposed to be 39db. I even allowed for some "fudge factor". But, it (and the replacement) logged 60-64db. Or, about the sound of a hairdryer.

When we got our Samsung DW in 2011 (when Sears gave us full purchase price for a Kenmore that crapped out 3 months out of warranty), the salesman raved and I mean raved about how well it chopped up food and how much water is saved by not rinsing dishes before turning it on. I told him we’d buy it based on features that Mrs. j liked but I told him I’d put it to the chopping test and if it didn’t perform like he said, I’d yank it out and bring it back. So did he really want to stand on that claim? He said he did. Mrs. j interjected saying, “he’s not kidding he’ll do it”. The salesman said, “fine, put it to the test”.
So we bought it and the first time Mrs. j used it I told her to leave the dishes dirty. It work just as claimed. Mrs. j said, “are you satisfied now”? I told her yes to which she said, “it’s nice to know that it cleans dishes that aren’t rinsed but don’t expect me to do that again. I just don’t feel right doing it that way”. I guess she likes wasting water.

I have to have the door open for about half a minute for my Whirlpool to go into HOLD mode; the run button light is flashing waitin for me to push it.
Let it sit for a few minutes so water can soak into the dried food. Then press the "Run" button
to restart and finish the cycle.

Like I said she only did it once. How else can you prove something if you don’t try it? Don’t get me wrong I won’t put my hand in a fan belt but most other things are in play. Empirical data is the best way I know how to test something. Always worked for me when I was working. It’s a tuff habit to break.

2) I get JMonroes testing the DW one time, but after that it would bother me to put actual food into the DW, though this Maytag is supposed to grind anything into little bits.
3) Sometimes lower volume can translate into more profit, but you also want the workers working at maximum capacity, or you are paying them when they aren't working.
4) Plus, market share means a lot to a car maker.
5) Our appliance guy said you would be surprised to know how many people buy a whole new set of appliances when one goes....so that they will all be the same brand and match.

I wasn't climbing the wall, just crossing the border into East Germany.

No but I was with 2 US Air Force MP’s one time at a SAC base in Homestead FL when I was on a flight crew while in the Navy. That wasn’t fun either.
We were flying a Navy doctor to that base and I’m sure just to impress us they didn’t let us taxi up to the terminal so the doctor could deplane. Instead they had us hold at the end of the taxi way until a “Follow Me” truck came to get us. They had us taxi so far from the terminal you could barely see it.
The doctor had a couple heavy bags and I offered to carry one down the steps of the R4Y we were flying. The doctor said, “thanks but I don’t think they’re going to allow you to get off the plane”. I said, “doc, I’m not a spy we’re all in this together. They’ll let me help you”. The doctor said, “suit yourself”. I grabbed a bag and started down the steps. I barely stepped out of the plane onto the first step when in unison both MP’s that were on both sides at the bottom of the steps clicked the safety off their rifles turned and pointed them at me and said loudly, “BACK ON THAT PLANE SAILOR”. I backed up into the plane and said, “I tried doc”. He smiled and said, “I told ya, they like to play it up with strangers on these bases. I’ve been through this before but thanks anyhow”.
The pilot and co-pilot were laughing their you know what off but I didn’t think it was so funny. The next time we flew into a SAC base I just stayed in my seat.

As to our moving, we'll know within a few months what our daughter will be doing work wise. Hoping she gets a job in Orlando so we can push back our moving date a bit. Being near our other daughter & son-in-law will make it easier for her. It will take us sometime to get this place cleaned up after all these years. If she takes a job near our current house, we won't be moving as it doesn't make sense. We'd probably just do some renovation in the kitchen & master bath. Plus interior painting and replacing most of the flooring. But we're probably talking like spending $30K or so. As much as I'd like to downsize, there's not much available in our area that we could get without spending whatever we get for this place plus a bit more. Not much inventory in the $350K to $500K right now. And if we do move, we'd want new construction again most likely.
So, all we can do is sit & wait till we hear some news. Our son & daughter-in-law just bought a Chicago bungalow but there's no way we're going to relocate to Chicago, think the cold weather would just be too much for us "southerner's". We left New York when I turned 15 and have been her for some 52 years. Looking at the prices in Westchester County the other day, no way we could afford to go back, taxes are just plain batsh-t crazy and again, that pesky cold weather. Luckily, we're in no hurry to do anything right now.

heck, if you buy it outright, you are self-financing it (basically taking money you could invest in something else, and investing it in a new car). So really, there isn't any free lunch. Money for a new car has to come from someplace! I think you just get hung up on the idea of making a monthly payment.
Oh, I agree with you on the house. If you are probably going at some point in the relatively near future, just make the place as nice as you can for you to live in and enjoy, but don't overdo it and should hopefully get more than your investment back in the end.

Waiting on a $350 gift card from my wife's employer that we can use at Lowe's so we can get a new oven with burners on top. Since all our other appliances are now Whirlpool, going with them again in stainless steel to match the fridge. We'll still have the almond colored light/vent over the new oven/stove but not sure what we plan to do there yet. Also want to get a new 50" smart t v with blue tooth so I can use my headphones so it'll be quiet in the house. Like our Samsung 40" so figure we'd stick with Samsung again as they do make some excellent televisons.
