Hmm, according to the '06 FSM the STi will NOT have AVCS on the exhaust side as previously speculated. The WRX doesn't have dual like the Legacy-based vehicles either.
The WRX 2.5L has a compression ratio of 8.4.
Power output is the same on the STi, 300hp/300tq. The new WRX engine is 230hp/235tq, with peak torque at 3600rpm! The new 2.5 SOHC motor is 173hp/166tq.
An interesting thing I noticed is that the STi and NA 2.5L use a 90A alternator, and the WRX uses a 110A alternator. I wonder if that's a typo.
Here's the interesting stuff: the transmissions!
The weird 1.1:1 center ratio on the WRX is gone. It is now present on the STi!
The WRX 5MT now uses a 3.70 final drive front and rear, with the following ratios:
1st 3.454
2nd 1.947
3rd 1.366
4th 0.972
5th 0.738
Rev 3.333
The STi 6MT now uses a 3.90 final drive in front, 1.1:1 center, and 3.545 rear diff. The ratios are as follows:
1st 3.636
2nd 2.375
3rd 1.761
4th 1.346
5th 0.971
6th 0.756
Rev 3.545
WRX 5MT is 3.70 final, 4EAT is 3.90 final (changed from 4.11 previously). 2.5i 5MT is 3.90 final, 4EAT is 4.11 final. STi as mentioned previously is 3.90/1.1/3.545. The 2.5i and Outback Sport models do NOT have a rear LSD, though according to the differential section of the manual there is apparently one variation of the NA 2.5 vehicles that has a 4.11 with the 5MT, but it doesn't indicate which car. It may be the OBS.
The STi still comes with 17x8 wheels, the WRX has been upgraded to 17s as standard! 17x7 with 215/45R17 W rated tires.
The WRX has been upgraded to the classic JDM/EDM STi 4-pot front brakes with 255mm rotor, and the rear 2-pots with 261mm ventilated (!) rear discs.
The WRX sedan Curb Weight is 3,192 for the base model with cloth and no sunroof, 3,239 fully optioned with leather and sunroof. The 2.5i weighs 3,016 (!) and the STi weighs 3,351.
Good news about the WRX brakes. Hopefully that will cure whatever that mysterious braking problem was.
Bob
I wonder if the new brakes will also make it to the Legacy GT.
I hope that more 215/45-17 tire choices will be available!
Ken
I think they're wrong about that also.
Taller gearing is how they got the solid EPA numbers. The Forester XT auto gets mid 20s EPA average. Wonder if it'll be that much better in the real world.

My wife saw a black on at Fitz and liked it. She did not like the light green that I prefer, instead the darker colors looked better to her. Add a black grille and I'd agree.

Now if Subaru offered a 6-speed Spec B Tribeca model, as I mentioned over in the "Suggestions to Subaru" thread, that grille would be perfect.

I prefer when all the cladding goes up to the same level, i.e. the same height as the cladding on the doors.

Having said that, I don't think it's as successful on the '06 Forester. Like everything else, when it comes to style, I take it on a case-by-case basis, and try not to generalize.
Bob
I guess I'll spare you from my soliloquy about the brown cladding Volvo also offers. ;-)

Prices are up about $500 from this time last year. SOA recently had a price increase (a month or so ago), and the prices is up about $350 from that.
Bob
I do agree with Bob that high-up unpainted cladding can look okay depending on the execution. But I don't agree that it looks good on the XC70. I prefered the XC70 one model prior when it was a more subtle implementation.

21/26 for 4EAT is impressive!

Funny thing is now the difference is very small. Subaru is going to sell a lot more turbos than before, watch.

2014 Mini Cooper (stick shift of course), 2016 Camry hybrid, 2009 Outback Sport 5-spd (keeping the stick alive)
Is that right? X Limited, LL Bean, and XT Limited all come pretty loaded up.

Also, lots of pics/info over at nabisco.

Since we will now get 17" rims, I'm assuming what you see here is what we will be getting. Note the red brake calibers! These are from previous-years STis I believe.
Bob
Red calipers are nice.
Seats are different, too.
I don't like where they put the Nav, seems too low and far from your line of sight. They should have put it up on top of the dash. At least the screen looks big.

18" wheels I believe, which is part of the sport suspension. The "B" in Spec B stands for Bilstein shocks.
Bob
Rims are nice, but those calipers should be painted or at least finished differently.
I wonder if it's different enough. They'll sell 500 easily, though.

With a Legacy right next to it. Note that headlights are very similar, as is the contour of the front fender.
Bob
No XT Base, only XT LTd.
colors are exactly same as the Legacy/Obs. surprised.
The new look makes the Impreza look wider - is it actually, or is that just illusion?
2014 Mini Cooper (stick shift of course), 2016 Camry hybrid, 2009 Outback Sport 5-spd (keeping the stick alive)
Is that sportshift that I see? Will that make it to the U.S.?

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. may build a Subaru minivan for sale in global markets, including the United States.

I'm holding back a feeling of nausea - a "crossover sport van" clone would spell disaster.
Look at those two silver WRXs side by side and the new one is a definite improvement. It's a face lift for sure, the old one looks kinda saggy next to the new one.

How come? What makes the Sportshift 4EAT not suitable for US models?
Bob
I have often thought that the old Honda Odyssey (the Isuzu built unit) had a similar profile to my Forester (height, length, etc.). A true 7 seater on the B9 platform is something I would buy.
