Anyone have any advice on what to do about an Air-BnB with wild parties? I have mentioned before that there is new construction directly across the street from my house, two houses on one lot with about 18 inches in between. Instead of leasing or selling, the builders/owners have chosen the Air-Bnb route. Which means big loud parties for the most part.

There is no homeowners association here, so that’s out. And most of the activity isn’t illegal, or only mildly illegal. Too many cars, too many people, too much noise at all hours of the night. Last night I was awoken a half dozen times, loud talking outside, loud cars (including one burnout), and one loud motorcycle. The last occurrence at 4:20 a.m.

I initially tried calling Air-Bnb to no avail. They flat don’t care, they just tell you, “That’s against our rules.”

Thanks, agreed I think I'm envisioning the fantasy more than the reality. And, my head needs protection!
But, I did drive a nice highway stretch yesterday with the sunroof open and all four windows down. Totally tolerable, perhaps thanks to the B & O stereo.

Just mid-life crisis'ing again. I've got the A7 PHEV, a large, powerful, economical and wonderful GT; so the third car should be something small and fun; practicality an option.

Unfortunately not much you can do except consider selling it to the owner of the Air-BnB across the street.

Some communities have noise ordinances. Maybe a visit from the local police/sheriff might help…

Exactly what I was going to say. There is typically a noise/time limit. Heck, we grew up in farm country and had it here, too.

New 2023 EQS SUV. Full electric GLS: interior, exterior and walkaround. Very nice looking vehicle but it looks more station wagon than SUV. As a 7-seater the rear seats look claustrophobic
I don't think that is the SUV model. The EQS SUV looks more like an SUV, a really nice one. Almost 400 miles on a charge.

Lucid is promising up to 520 on a charge. But I think you will need to spend over $100k and that's in yankee greenbacks.

Wife has a conference planned for late September in Chicago. May have an opportunity to spend a quick 2 days. Flying in Sunday morning, out early Tuesday. Other than a few food spots I’d like to hit… is it worth it? I would be by myself from noon to around dinner time on Monday. I am thinking I need more time and wouldn’t be able to do any longer.

Well if you could get to a museum or two it might be worth it. However the amount of time you would be there it might not be worth it.

That being said Chicago is turning into a $#@! hole and I haven't gone into the city in a few years and currently refuse to go there. I know many who hold the same view.

Has @snakeweasel been on here? Someone in a Chicago suburb won the Mega Millions 1.xx billion lottery last night. Did everyone check their tickets? Biggest amount won in Ohio was $10,000 x 5 people. I didn't have a single number on my strip. Not a single number out of the 6 numbers appeared on my ticket.

I do believe the winning ticket was bought in Des Plaines (bonus points if you cam pronounce it right) I used to live there in the 70s a d dated a lady there in the 80s.....hey maybe I should look her up.

in my town that would be shut down very quickly.

For one, the direct sunlight will tend to bake the top of your head. And it's pretty much impossible to wear a hat when you're driving around with the top down.

I wear a baseball hat when we have the top down and I have had bo issues with it. The only real issue I have with the top down is that the sunlight makes it almost impossible to see the infotainment screen clearly.

@tjc Do the architectural river cruise, one of the best things you can do...plus it is fun and informative.

....and if it was me, I'd see the Frank Lloyd Wright Buildings at the University...that is on my near in the future bucket list.

Took a little extended weekend vacation through Northern Illinois. Took a boat ride on a boat that had a one mule power engine.

It's a replica of the type of boat that went up and down the I & M canal nearly 200 years ago and it is towed by a mule named Moe.

Convertibles......90% of buyers don't get a second one. Weather has to be perfect, not too hot, not too cold, not much wind. Small trunk. Things can go wrong - breakage. And the number #1 reason not to get a convertible - if a bird decides to go on you while you are driving along.

Oh, another reason, a bunch of us salesmen went out in a buyers convertible one day.......and his taupe went flying off, and was never found again!

Highline Lucid will be closer to 200K all-in, but it's not a Model S, so it has that going for it.

As for the taupe thing, I couldn’t get away with that excuse.

Last time we were in Chicago we did the Riverwalk.
Another time we went to the Museum of Science and Industry. The U-505 is there.
Also, Cubs usually play day games. I met my sister and her husband there and took the bus.
I was different than every other person on the bus.

For the most part you either like a convertible or not. I've had 5 convertibles and love them. Yes some have leaked water, rattle and squeaked, but they are the next best thing to riding a motorcycle without a helmet.

Same here with the hat and I never had any problems with it flying off. Convertibles are limited use toys for sure but so are many sports cars. I find I can drive comfortably between the upper 60s and upper 80s. I can expand that 5 degrees either way with use of the AC or heat.

Convertibles aren't allowed at BMW CCA HPDEs, so for me a droptop never makes the cut- although I wouldn't mind having a TR3A just for cruising around.

In Florida it gets so hot people would rather have the a/c on than the roof down!

I mean too much wind. Mrs D100 complains about her hair getting blown around.

Trunk is big enough for our long weekends.

Some people need more than a toothbrush

Things can go wrong - breakage.

And the number #1 reason not to get a convertible - if a bird decides to go on you while you are driving along.

Then don't go outside.

We driving along on a beautiful evening and a giant bird laid one right on my front windshield, lucky I was sitting 2 feet behind the target area!

Met my son at Costco this afternoon, returning our dog after we were away for a bit. A Pagani Hyuara drove by, but didn't stop for "cheap" gas, hard to fathom.

He approved only one of my 'vert choices:
TT looks to much like a VW bug
430xi looks ugly with the top up (I disagree, and noted that most 'verts looked much better topless)
450SL, actually he seemed to think that was a reasonable choice. But, the wife doesn't find it feminine enough

And, again, practicality isn't a primary factor in the mid-life crisis car, deux, decision. Of course, the bank account is...

You would be surprised at how few day games they play at Wrigley, any more. (also, take the train)

But, I would definitely take a 2-day trip to Chicago. Plenty to see and do, especially if you are staying in the Loop. Plus, food.

A little humor to start the week.

A newlywed couple moves into their new house.

One day the husband comes home from work and his wife says, "Honey, you know, in the upstairs bathroom one of the pipes is leaking, could you fix it?"

The husband says, "What do I look like, Mr. Plumber?"

A few days go by, and he comes home from work and his wife says, "Honey, the car won't start. I think it needs a new battery. Could you change it for me?"

He says: "What do I look like, Mr. Goodwrench?"

Another few days go by, and it's raining pretty hard.

The wife finds a leak in the roof.

She says, "Honey, there's a leak on the roof! Can you please fix it?"

He says, "What do I look like, Bob Vila?"

The next day the husband comes home, and the roof is fixed.

So is the plumbing. So is the car.

He asks his wife what happened. "Oh, I had a handyman come in and fix them," she says. "Great! How much is that going to cost me?" he snarls.

Wife says: "Nothing. He said he'd do it for free if I either baked him a cake or slept with him." "Uh, well, what kind of cake did you make?" asks the husband.

"What do I look like," she says, "Betty Crocker?"

We stayed it the River North area I think it's called when we were there for the kids wedding in 2017. Great walking city though I was pretty limited due to my needing a cane to get around. Unfortunately, we missed the river cruise as it had rained a couple of days before, first cold snap of the season we were told, and it got a bid flooded. They closed down the river tours till that Tuesday and we had to drive out Monday afternoon. So, that cruise and a few museums are on our bucket list for our next trip. Since the kids bought a house, think we'll have to stay with them though the other half prefers a hotel.

I bit the bullet this morning and paid off my mortgage. To me, it just did not make economic sense to pay 3.75% interest on my mortgage while earning a paltry 0.10% on my savings.
What I found interesting, was how quickly I was able to do that. I made a phone call and in 15 minutes I was done. The customer service representative asked if there was anything else she could help me with. I said, "how about a gold watch." She laughed so I hard that I could hear her spitting out her coffee.

Then, I got a curious text from what purported to be an authentic communique from Citizens Bank, the holder of my savings account. The message read that my account was frozen and I needed to provide my email and password to verify my address and other pertinent information. I immediately called my bank and they said my account was not frozen and perhaps I almost fell into the trap of fraudsters who snatched me while on their phishing expedition.

How can we conduct internet business confidently when it is so easy to be defrauded, although I have antivirus protection?

I get emails and texts like that pretty often. Thing is, it is always from a bank I don't do business with, like Chase or BoA.

You weren't defrauded; you didn't respond to the scamster. Same as not sending money to Nigerian princes or a representative barrister...

And, check out an online savings account, paying much higher rates (1.65%)!

Congratulations, nice to have the mortgage paid off and it makes sense considering the low interest rates paid out. Are you going to have a mortgage burning party?
Do you think the email from the phony bank was a coincidence, was it somebody listening in, or did someone at the bank tip them off?
