Man, with performance figures like that, Subaru will also put the Forester in the top of it's category. That would be one SERIOUS mini-SUV rocket!

Now all Subaru needs to do is put the Legacy at the top of the performance sedan list.

The Forester doesn't weigh any more than a WRX wagon, so I guess the 6 second times are possible. Dang, now I really want one!

the following link, The unknown soldiers - NA Subaru Legacys, which was part of that APEX Japan link I posted yesterday?

It gave some good on-road feedback on the 2.5 AVCS engine, which hopefully we'll get here sometime soon.

Bummer, that's a long wait. Sandy will hold up, but will I be patient enough to be able to consider those?

...to go on sale in late 2004, if I read it correctly.

Patience, grasshopper, patience. We'll know by next year (mid-to-late) whether or not this Autoweek story comes true.

Until then, I'll salivate over a dark blue sedan...

Summer 2003 is earlier than some of us thought, though. If it's really that fast (0-60 in 6s) my decision is already made.

Sounds like they're having scanning the spy photo. I'm sure we'll see many more popping up as the Paris show nears.

It seems as though the new headlights will indeed be completely different -- kind of like the Legacy-style lights we've seen.

has a baja and a new yellow WRX. I like the yellow...it has a LOT of Orange in it tho', so it might not be for everyone. No time to stop, so I didn't monkey around in the Baja.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
the new issues of C&D and R&T in the mail today. Lots of good Subie reading material in there!

C&D has a preview ride of the Baja, and R&T has a pix of the new restyled STi—which, BTW, is an image that has been floating around for some time over on the I-Club!

C&D did a long term write up of their long-term WRX. Besides the Subie stuff, there's all sorts of info on all the '03 models in both rags!

the '03 Imprezas now get dual vanity mirrors (didn't know the '02 model only had one!), and the RS now gets fog lamps as standard.

My WRX has 2 vanity mirrors in those cheapo visors.
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
maybe it applies to lesser Imprezas?

    217hp @6000 rpm / 213 lbs ft @440 rpm
    VDC AWD
    4EAT only
bells and whistles of the Outback VDC
BUT... weighs in at 3,891 lbs. That's 156 lbs heavier than the Outback VDC 3,735 lbs.?

    -Dave
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Only 5 more horsepower than an Outback H-6? An earlier report stated it had twin turbos, with much more HP!?

like who really cares anyway! thats hardly a make or break item in deciding to get a car unless you are a little different!
  • hypovhypov Member Posts: 3,068
vanity mirrors? I could use an extra rear view mirror :D

My choice of waiting out for a "Umphier" Legacy appears to have been rained on :(
The Blitzen6 coughs up only 5hp more and gained 156 lbs more...
What handling improving component did they put in it that weighs 156 lbs.?

    -Dave
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
hey I've got dual vanity mirrors and lights on both of 'em that only come on when the covers are slid open... :-D

    no cupholders though.

    -Colin
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
in an M3 who needs cupholders? =)

Still on a high from getting my SVX. @ 3400lbs the 3.3l H6 230/230 is a rocket ship! They should just reporoduce it!

    and I'll buy it.

    Whatever it takes. :)

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah, Bob, and the Legacy gets vanity mirrors too, the year after we bought ours! We may not care but the wife misses little stuff like that, so I added a little aftermarket one that clips on. OE would be better, no doubt.

5hp isn't much, but bring it on. The H6 will need a boost when the new Accord arrives. 0-60 in 7 flat, says C&D, with an auto. Altima takes 7.3. The VDC is at least a full second behind that.

Oddly, the Accord outran the TL Type S (!) in that same issue, and by a large margin.

But the GT has smaller diameter tires and the same final drive, for 7% shorter gearing. I bet it would just about match the Altima, as long as those curb weight figures are wrong. It should be a little lighter than the VDC.

If for whatever reason the turbo Forester dissapoints, I'd look at an H6 GT as long as it had a 5 speed (maybe, just maybe Shiftronic).

    '92 SVX 0-60 6.9s 1/4mile ~15.8
Not bad for a porky 3480lb car. :)

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well, it's a GT, not a sports car per se. I bet it gobbles up the miles at high speeds with more comfort than anything in Subaru's line up today.

    :)

It is comfy, drove about 250 miles yesterday and it was like nothing. Very very comfy and the stereo kicks major butt!

I think I figured out why the subies don't have tinted windows on their wagons/foresters in the rear. I was reading an old Readers Digest from the mid 90s, and they had several minivan ads in there for Chrysler and Ford. In both of them they say that they have 5 star safety etc. But then they had an asterix, and it noted "safety rating on non-rear privacy glass models only" Since I saw it in 2 different ads, it leads me to believe that it may take away some safety ratings if you factory tint the rears? Or perhaps you need to classify it as a "truck" if it has privacy glass from the factory? Just some thoughts.

Saw a blue 94'SVX for sale at Carter Subaru in Seattle yesterday. It had leather, moonroof, etc. Looked to be in excellent condition for its age. I couldn't see how many miles were on it and didn't ask the price. The SVX still looks good today....not dated at all, IMHO. :-) I was fantasizing having a SVX and my WRX. Of course, I did the same thing when I was checking out a new silver Baja on the lot. I'm glad the dealer got done w/my oil change quickly! :-)

    The blue is very rare.

    It's a complete joy so far! :)

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
6.9 is great, the VDC is more like mid 8s range.

Hmm, why is tint less safe? I'd think the lamination actually made it more safe, so no broken glass peices fly around. I think Volvo has laminated glass. 3M advertises the stuff on AN.

  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Aftermarket tints are film-based, but are factory tints also the same? I thought the glass itself was colored.

    Ken
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah, maybe Chrysler's stuff doesn't have the same shatter resistance as their clear glass? Who knows.

Baja gets the tint, but it's also a truck. It may just be to meet all the state requirements for cars, which don't apply to trucks.

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
that since it was all 3 that noted it back in ~'94 perhaps it was due to visibility issues? I think factory glass just has a colored layer between the 2 layers of glass you normally have.

I just read another reference to the H6 twin turbo by Bob.

Not to be critical, but I already pointed out that in the article that was pointed to as referring to an H6 TT, the text said that the H4 TT was replaced by the H6 NA. Not a TT.

There was never a H6 TT. The article said no such thing!

Okay, I feel better. Sorry if that sounded harsh.

There have been tons of rumors about H6 Turbos ever since the XT6 H6 2.7l to this day some XT6 enthusiasts said it was a 'rare' option. But they never made it from the factory that way.

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
aric: it's called wishful thinking. We still want the H6 TT. I refuse to believe it won't happen! :-)

  • tenchijintenchijin Member Posts: 16
Oh, BELIEVE ME, I'm all about wanting the H6 TT.

I'd trade my wife for one.

Don't tell her I said that...

Another new WRX image found on the I-Club, which was in turn found on a UK site.

I like it! Some may say the headlights look like a RSX, or a MB S-Class. That's fine with me. This is by far the best looking version I've seen to date!

It's clearly an *evolution* of the current oval headlight theme, which is great!

Very RSX. They're OK, I'm not crazy about it. I don't like the line from the lights to the grille, that should be part of the hood.

Overall it is an improvement, though.

    -juice
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
with your hood cut-line comment. Still, light-years better overall than the current model.

Also mentioned in the article, is that the new WRX will get an upgraded interior, much like the Forester just recieved. I'm stoked!

Assuming this this *IS* the new facelifted Impreza, this is a term that has multiple meanings here:

    • As I said, it is an evolution the the current oval headlight theme, thereby *justifying* the concept. If Subaru had abandoned any hint of the oval design, they would have been admitting defeat in terms of design concept. They just improved upon it, IMO.

    • Well, the *face* of the vehicle is improved, therefore *saved.*

    • Saving face also means saving public embarrassment, a concept that is especially sensitive to Asians.

The problem is, because there are so many good Photoshop artists out there, we won't know if in fact this is the real *face* until Subaru makes some sort of official announcement. I'm crossing my fingers (and toes!).

I'd like to see the WRX go on a diet and lose some weight. The 2003 Forester is 80 lbs lighter than its predecessor, despite a few extras. So in other words I hope they "add lightness", to quote another Colin.

I think it's a Photoshop, too, but I'll bet the real one picks up at least some of those cues.

I'd like to start seeing photo-chopped images of a Legacy B4 U.S. spec (or as I call it, a Legacy on 'roids).

To me, this just further proves that the Legacy doesn't get the attention.
