I looked at the box and I noticed that, exactly the same ingredients for a lot less. The problem was, I was told to get "Nyquill" and so I did, "Defensive Husband Buying", if it was for myself I would have got the house brand.....but not good to vary from the instructions I was given.

I have zero shame in buying store brands. Many of them are made on the same lines as the name brand.

Walmart and Shop Rite (Wakefern) have great house brands.

Pro Tip… if you like Girl Scout Cookies, the Great Value Walmart brands are better than the real thing.

I have no problem with House Brands from a trusted store. Some people bought eye drops on Amazon that were made in India and were contaminated. They got a bacteria and some can't see, some had pain or obscured vision. Sometimes dollar stores get caught selling stuff that shouldn't have been put on sale, electrical products that didn't get approved, pet food or treats that came from countries like China that don't have our standards and regulations.

I have no problem with a reputable stores store brands......but I do a bit of analyzing first. Aluminum foil, no problem, dog treats and human food, only from a well known brand or a reputable store brand.

Nah, the newbies wouldn’t touch those pestilence cars either. One of the rental agents said they were calling in the district manage to handle it. Just like the wrecked car with the dead deer imbedded in the grill, the grunt workers refuse to do some things. I think they stopped hiring dumb people after they hired me.😩

Years ago a pharmacist told me if the store brand says, “compare to xxx”, the store brand must have the same “active” ingredients of the national brand it’s being compared to. And way before that a doctor told me if a genetic prescription drug says, “genetic for xxx”, it must also have the same active ingredients as the name brand drug. That sounds right to me, so I believe it.

On the local news yesterday I saw a horse being perused by a couple PA State Police in their cruisers on the PA Turnpike between 2 of the closest exits to me. They finally got it done and the horse was safely returned to its owner. The report said they didn’t know how it happened.

I say unless that was a steeplechase horse there had to be a hole in a fence somewhere.

I've used both Nyquill and the Equate Nighttime Cold and Flu. They even taste
the same. Sometimes I think the store brand is missing some nonactive ingredient
that affects the taste (or smell) or the item, especially the syrups. But I haven't found
that with the Walmart Equate branded versions. I even buy the 2-pack of Equate
Nightime. It's a little cheaper. LOL

I use the equate version of flutacasone propianate nose spray (Nasonex) for
allergies. I use the Equate version of an antiallergy eye drops that parallels one
that used to be prescription only.

But the Walmart brand of canned vegetables never seem as good. My wife complains
when I get them because that's the only choice available. Same for Kroger canned
vegetables.

In our upstairs bathroom, there were 3 small places where there was a grout void between some tiles,
about 3/4, 1/2 and 1/4 inch in length. The 2 longer ones were right out in the open.
We put it on the punch list several times but the builder was unresponsive to it.
In the mean time, I was thinking about how to fix it, usually when I was sitting down and looking at it, if you catch my drift.
I didn't really want to buy some gray grout mix and leave 99.999% of it unused.
The other day, i saw that I had some gray caulk and thought "Hmm..".
What I ended up doing is putting down some painters tape on each side of the voids, applying some caulk, smoothing it out and pulling up the tape.
Came out pretty good, not a bad hack.

Caulk is not a substitute for grout. If it was, tile setters would use it. I wouldn’t trust it to last too long.

Buying a small bag of grout and using a few tablespoons of it and never using the rest of it is far cheaper than having water damage when the grout breaks down.

It doesn’t take much of a “gap”to allow water to get through. I’ve seen cracked grout joints that leaked. So gaps are like tunnels.

I filled the grout gaps, which are worse than cracks, so not seeing the problem using caulk to fill them.
It's flexible and waterproof.
I think you need to get out your tape measure to see how long 3/4 of an inch is.

If you use 100% silicon caulk from a reputable company like GE you have a chance but most caulks aren’t that good.

I wish you luck and hope you don’t need a bucket months from now to measure a water leak.

Quite often the store brand is made by the name brand anyway. I have found in some cases the store brand is better than the name brand. The main ingredients in Nyquill and the drug store brand and Equate were all the same. But medicine can be partly mental. So, if she wasn't feeling better taking Equate...even though it is exactly the same as Nyquill, I would probably get blamed because I got the wrong brand.

Aren't canned vegetables problematic....something from the can? You're supposed to get fresh or even frozen is much better.

I’m not a huge fan of canned veggies. Prefer frozen or fresh however in a pinch it’s good to have some on hand.

When we are down the shore for the summer it’s almost like living in the city. Everything is so close we don’t tend to stock up on much. I’ll run out to the produce store or seafood market to grab something quick for dinner. Thinking tomorrow night will be linguine and clams. The seafood store is walking distance from the house and they alway have tons of little necks

Funny thing about veggies - growing up in the ‘60s/early ‘70s, if the veggies weren’t fresh, they came from a can. Not a fan. These days if they aren’t fresh, they’re frozen. The one exception: I love corn kernels from the can, especially the peaches & cream variety, straight from the can, unheated, in a salad as a type of garnish. Tasty.

Out of curiosity, do your kids go to camp at the shore? We spent many weekends in Margate/Longport with my grandparents, but weekdays were back home going to camp.

No camp for the kids. Our street a has a bunch of kids, so we let them play. For the most part they have a great time. They ride their bikes, have a dip in the harbor (their friend’s house is on the water side of the street), play basketball etc.

My Mom is here to check up in them while we work. She also sometimes takes them to the water park or ride which we have season passes to.

All in all the kids have it pretty good down here

Oh almost forgot.. and this is kinda funny. There is a restaurant on the bay at the end of our street (2 min walk) and the servers and bar backs love the kids. They go up there and they give them baskets of chicken fingers and fries all the time.

We actually were having a drink there one night by ourselves and asked about it. We told them they don’t have to give them food (we do feed them) and they said they love doing it.

Tomorrow should be an interesting day here. Some background: about 6 weeks ago the cable/internet/mobile provider I've used forever which is a smallish regional operation, announced that they were unable to reach agreement on a carriage deal with one of the big content providers up here (Corus) and so 34 channels would be disappearing from their system as of tomorrow. Although I had a lot of those, I seldom watched any of them, and the handful that I did watch were only for one or two shows a week. So I decided to try to reduce my bill by restructuring my services.

I guess lots of customers were doing the same as actually getting to talk to someone there was a problem, and wait times were horrendous. Last week after a long wait I finally got through to a person and told them what I wanted to do. In the end the best way to reduce my bill significantly involved switching to their latest service package which involves fewer channel packages, a virtual TIVO DVR to replace the ancient spinny-disk type in my current Motorola box, changing my in-house internet/wifi service to something called eero which I gather is Amazon's is whole-house system, and ditching my landline entirely (that being my idea as all it gets is spam calls now). I have to wonder what I might be getting myself into but tomorrow will be interesting.

Reducing the number of unwatched channels I pay for will be a considerable savings, and I won't miss the landline much, but I just hope the wifi works as well as they claim. Now, what will I do with all the landline handsets scattered throughout the house?

I started the car this morning and got this warning:

On my way back from tennis I stopped at Mercedes and they said it needs a new auxiliary battery, the one that starts the STOP/AND GO feature, which I never use and which I turn off when I start the car.
He said these batteries last 3 to 5 years....mine is 6 years old.
He said there is no rush, call back to make an appointment.
I am almost tempted to not bother with it! But, I'll get a new one.
Drivers Rules about repairs, if you leave one, and then two, and then 3 pretty soon you fall behind and never catch up.

Thank you. We are very blessed to be able to do this for them. They really have a blast down here for the summer. Toughest part is having to still work all week lol.

Best part of the whole thing is the house is an investment.

Drivers Rules about repairs, if you leave one, and then two, and then 3 pretty soon you fall behind and never catch up.

Actually catching up with such items on the Jetta, as the TPMS has been malfunctioning for quite a long time and one of the DRL bulbs burned out what seems like last year. Had the DRL taken care of and a new reset switch for the TPMS is on order. Of course, there’s now a potential transfer to a snowier climate in play, and the better half is going to want an AWD replacement for the Jetta if that happens.

Still holding as long as possible before I go ahead with the 120k services and new tires on the RDX, contemplating ways to lessen the sting of possibly ending up on two car payments.

That is another reason for not leaving even minor repairs. It is easier to pay for them as they come up, it you wait for 3,4, or 5 repairs the cost could be a lot harder to handle.

One thing this battery problem did was to remind me I will have to get a new main battery for the E400 too, probably next year when it will be 7 years old. Since it only goes about 7500 miles a year, and since it is in the garage whenever it is at home, the battery should last 7 years....so it is on the list for when I do next years oil change.

Mentioning tennis reminded me of your pickleball games. I saw a "news" article that healthcare companys' costs have increased because of the problems people are having from playing pickleball.

I've noticed Cincinnati and Dayton have places where pickleball courts have been and are being built.
I believe Cincy has the "worlds largest indoor or outdoor courts being built. I didn't bother to look it up,
I can't take the chance of injury by taking up the game (tongue in cheek).

Someone on here did their carburetor on a small engine. I worked on my Tecumseh and figured out my needle valve was leaking, causing all the gas to drain out of the tank when it was turned off. I got a replacement seat and valve along with the tool for removing the seat--a crochet needle.

Replaced a few days ago. No more seeping gas. But when I went to use the edger today, it runs for about 2 minutes and then shuts down and won't restart right then.

But 10 minutes or so later it will restart and run fine. I am guessing my needle is sticking and not letting replacement fuel into the float bowl?

Healthcare companies may have more payouts from pickleball injuries, but the game is keeping millions of seniors mentally and physically healthier overall. It is the fastest growing sport in America and the number of players and venues are increasing.

No matter how big the facilities are somewhere, I doubt if they can match The Villages in Florida, they are up to 150 outdoor pickleball courts.
I don't know if this new high roof facility in Bradenton FL counts, but they have 20 pickleball courts, I believe 12 are under the roof.

They even started showing pickleball finals on the tennis sports channels, it can be fun to watch, at least for one hour.

That sounds similar to the line motorcycle enthusiasts use to justify straight-pipe exhausts - the loud noise saves lives! 🙄
