has a wheelbase of around 106" which is barely more than the current Outback. If it had 3–4 more inches in the wheelbase, the 3rd-row seats would be adult-friendly.

Is that if they put out a vehicle having the mass of a pilot, they don't have an engine powerful enough to support it :( Lets hope for the best.

    That's it...

Where do I put my deposit on it? TT H6 5EAT, VTD. It's like a wet dream come true! :)

looks like a 350z with an Alfa grill.

Gotta love the potential performance, though.

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

with AWD that's the key, oh an a boxer engine...

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
there's no mention of engine displacement (yet!), and that the power split is 35/65, front-to-rear, giving it the most "RWD" driving-like characteristics yet seen on a Subie.

I need to see more photos before commenting on the looks, etc. It appears the rear tapers downward like the Audi TT. Early on, rumors surfaced that Subaru would offer an Audi TT competitor.

more Infiniti G35 coupe, as it is a 4-seater.

    Bob
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
3.5 H6 with the TT, although I guess they could hype up a 3.0H6 to 396hp/405lbs.

I LOVE it! I see a bit of Mazda RX8 in it, not Audi TT, as I first thought. It's very European looking.

It's got the suicide doors from the the RX8, which I had hoped it would! Great job Subaru!

Very SVX-like with the center console, and rear slopeing hatchback-like window and dual rear exhaust.

    -mike
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
It's a perfect replacement for the SVX! Just build it Subaru!

Quote from the press release: "The B11S has been developed to pursue the concept of Gran Utility Turismo, which embodies the perfect blend of sporty driving, comfort, functionality and elegance."

No need to throw the word "utility" in to appease the SUV crowd or those who can't view a Subaru as anything other than utilitarian. The acronym "GUT" is very unfortunate, speaking as someone who has one. ;-p

It looks a lot more like a Nissan 350Z than I expected from the drawing. I'd like to see the rear and side views as well.

edit: Now I have. It does look more like a ZX, with hints of Mazda RX-8. The grille is beginning to remind me of a bathroom scale.

    First "GUT" and now...

"The grille is beginning to remind me of a bathroom scale."

Sounds like you need to go on a diet, bud! LOL!!

    Bob
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Well of course I do, Bob. You've seen the pics. Still I can see a little dial where the six stars logo resides, and the grille texture looks like the little rubber nubs where you place your feet.

    Ed
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
you see bathroom scale; and I see Christmas Tree, with the overall shape and where the logo reminds me of the star that "crowns" an X-Mas tree.

Oh, Ross, we need your council here...

is H6 turbo with 400+lbs of Torque and 390+hp. Yippie-ki-aye!

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    HOT DANG! Gorgeous! Yowsah!

That is one sweet ride! Sort of recalls the Porsche 911 from the profile, Alfa up front.

394hp is too much, we won't be able to afford to insure it! The "frosted glass roof" makes even me happy. 35/65 rear bias is perfect. Suicide doors so the toddlers can crawl in.

Dream car, baby! It is WAAAAAY better looking than the comparatively homely RX8, probably it's closest competitor once they tone it down for production. It's much more European looking.

Doors open wide. The C-pillar reminds you of Maserati.

The flares would be toned down for production, else they'll start calling Subaru the Japanese Pontiac.

I like the center console design, and how it echoes the front. Nice theme, but not overdone like some Fords are with Ovals.

I love it! Keep the glass roof and I'll even sell the Miata!

Hmm, my ideal garage? B11S for me and a 2005 SUW for my wife! Pure heaven.

Holy sweetness! Is THAT a Subaru!?

For real, I was thinking the same thing. Subies are practical and stodgy, it almost doesn't fit in the lineup, at least since the last SVX.

Reminds me of Volvo, they had boxy cars, now they're stylish and noone even knew how to react!

Just flip the nose around it might help the looks. But Subes aren't supposed to look great, right? :-)

I like it. Hmmm.... performance and style. I think I know what my next Subaru will be - minus the show car excess of course. My practical/dream garage - new Toyota Sienna AWD and Subaru B11S.

Holy cow! 394hp & 405lb ft? Talk about a smoker! I like everything about it except for Ed's bathroom scale and that blue interior (which I suspect won't make it into the production model anyway).

Is it just me or does that front end remind anyone else of the Edsel's? ;-)

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It would be funny, for any of you amateur sketch artists, to dry to graft that front end on to the current lineup. Anyone feel up to it?

If I had any art talents, I'd try.

    -juice
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
that grille motif will be toned down for mainstream models. It will probably be much smaller, and not dominate the front end as the B11S's grille does.

I wouldn't attempt to graft it on to any current Subaru. It needs to be integrated into the whole design, not just slapped on.

More pixs, info, and some specs. The thing has 21" wheels, with larger tires on the rear—which is unusual for an AWD car.

    Bob--

the rear tires are certainly wider, but by my math they are in fact the same rolling diameter as the front.

but porsche has done a few variants of 911 that do have differently sized front and rear tires. of course, they also don't have a starting 50/50 distribution either.

*ahem* Recall when the '03 Forester was first unveiled that I said it looked like a GMC Envoy? Maybe there was a reason for that: 20% investor intends to sell rebadged version, places demand on company that product already carry design cues that will make it more acceptable as a rebadged product.

Drinking from the conspiracy theorists' well this evening...

    Ed
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
I kind of suspected that. Yes, the rear tires are indeed wider. They also have a lower profile, so they could be the same diameter.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
A guy that sits two offices from me has a Forester and he's from India, so why not? Who cares what badge it wears as long as it's a Subie.

OK, this GUT acronym has gotta go. I'm with Ed on this one. How dumb does that sound?

And almost 400hp sounds great, but I'd like to see them make an affordable version with the 2.5T engine.

I like the styling even more after digesting it for a day.

    -juice

PS Isn't it a relief to see a new styling direction, after Ford New Edge, GM Art & Science, and BMW Flame Surfacing overdid the curves-and-creases thing?
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Wouldn't have enough torque to push that vehicle. I'm thinking it's pretty heavy.

2.5T would just be another run of the mill car, IMHO.

Where do I place my order? Two things though, get rid of the Alfa looking triangle in front and the dash is a little too futuristic for me. Still this could be my replacement for the minivan (Talk about going from one extreme to the other).I agree with Juice too. Give me a 2.5T, 6 speed and 25-30K price.

    Greg
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
mike: right now, it would go chasing M3s and S4s. So we're talking $40-50 grand for starters.

Ouch. How 'bout one for $30?

    -juice
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
for the WRX coupe if you guys want an H4.

This car will come with an H6 only, grand touring cars are NOT 4-bangers...

The Pininfarina Enjoy, based on a Lotus Elise chassis...lovely, with classic touches such as the wings

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Will there be a WRX coupe? I doubt it, this is probably it.

For me, they're making a 2+2 that would be practical enough for my 2 kids to ride in back. It's most logical competitor is the Mazda RX8, which starts at about $26 grand.

I don't see why Subaru can't build a similar car for $1750 extra (the cost of AWD), with similar power, hence the 2.5T.

400hp with our speed limits is sort of silly. There's no autobahn here. It would just be a waste.

It would also cost $40 grand, and we all know how well Subies over $30k sell (if any actually ever demanded that much after discounts).

Or maybe build two models, the standard coupe, and the STi. Make one $30 grand, the other $40 grand. Even then I bet 80% of them are the cheaper model.

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Need a much smaller chassis to do it with a smaller engine/smaller car. I'd build something like you guys want on an impreza chassis. They want to get into building sports cars/grand touring cars, this will likely be the crown jewel. Also this chassis/driveline may be the one they are planning on using for the upcoming SUW. Don't forget it's still a concept.

    -mike
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It's very much a concept. I bet any production model *would* actually be a WRX coupe.

I'd just rather see Subaru sell an accessible coupe, rather than sell 300 limited edition M3 killers to the ultra rich.

My guess is you're thinking you'd pick one up 5 years from now used, so you could afford it. Am I right?

    2.5T (280 - 300 hp),torque down low, @ $30-32....nuff said

    http://www.subaru-global.com/topics/ms/gen2003/

Let's not get carried away yet; it's still just a "concept," with no word on production. I would like to think, however, that it's a thinly disguised future production vehicle, with perhaps not all the bells and whistles shown here.

    Bob
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
the most controversial aspect is the grille. I like it—and I mean "I REALLY LIKE IT" for a whole variety of design/marketing reasons, which I won't bore you all with.

I will say this: The front end, for many, will take some time to get used to; but I bet after some time, once several future Subies get versions of this new grille treatment, it will become pretty ordinary looking.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
There you go Serge. Something like that would sell in enough volume to make it feasible.

Let's not forget what happened to Japanese supercars in the mid 90s - they got too expensive and suddenly became extinct.

The Z and the RX8 will run $26-35k, a lot less than a decade ago if you account for inflation.

    the center grille...
I'm already set on mounting a single Hella Luminator Xenon smack in the middle. :D

    Freight Train ;)

Just this once, I'll forgo my wagon prerequisite.... I want it!

    -Dave
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
    I like the light idea!

Speaking of trains, the front end does have sort of a "cow-catcher" aspect to it. ;)

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
It's a hatch back, isn't it? If so to me it squeezes by.

    -juice
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
but I haven't seen a picture with the rear trunk/hatch open.

    Bob
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
It isn't a hatch, just like the original SVX, it has a trunk IIRC.

I wouldn't buy it used. If it came out with the H6 TT, then I'd sell the Trooper to my dad and go buy it TODAY. Not many cars make me actually want to go out and sell my Trooper and take on a car payment, but this one would move me to do so.

I'd like to see the interior toned down a hair, and smaller rims 17" would be fine, and some buldges slightly on the fenders like my SVX. Give it to me in Forest Green with Grey Leather interior and a Navigation system and I'm good to go. Single Hella 4000 mounted right in the center of the grille :)
