I (and likely many others) use a vinegar and water solution to de-scale my coffeemaker when it indicates that is due. Speaking of kitchen things, some WIP pics. Progress this week included all plumbing, most wiring and lighting, delivery of cabinets (not all shown here), flooring install of some nice fake limestone LVP, and setup of temporary arrangements with the old dishwasher , etc for the next week or so. The finished cabinet doors and trim panels in final colors should happen next week along with upper cabinets and vented microwave over the stove. Lucy the cat had to insert herself into the picture as she inspected the work.

I’m sure you’ll be glad when that job is done. Will probably look better then too, with or without Lucy.

I just looked up the components of Cascade dishwasher cleaner tablets. I found this:
Amylase Enzyme, Benzisothiazolinone, Calcium Chloride, Citric Acid, Colorants, Copolymer of Acrylic Maleic and Sulphonic Acids, Fragrances, PEG/PPG/Propylheptyl Ether, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Silicate, Subtilisin, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Water, Xanthan Gum.

I notice that citric acid is inn there listen 4th in order of quantity and above the maleic and sulphonic acids which probably are there as a buffer to work with the citric acid?

Amylase is there to break starches into sugars. Probably to attack common residuals on the inside of the washer.

Benzisothiazolinone is a preservative and antimicrobial. To keep the pellet fresh? And kill of bacteria in dishwasher leftover goop?

The other items are likely just filler to be able to make a cake of product.

So I see why just a high citric acid fruity drink would work to clean dishwashers. A longtime radio talk guy in Detroit who took calls on repairing home appliances said to use Tang (citric acid drink) and clean your dishwasher.

Joe also said to use white vinegar in a full clothes washer to remove build up of detergent on the side of the tub that's around the inner spinning tub.

    ————————————————
The next time you talk to Joe, tell him I don’t want to smell like a pickle. Oranges and lemons OK, but not pickles.

    jmonroe
I believe his radio years of helping folks with appliance problems on the radio by phone have ended. His son was running the appliance repair business Joe had for years. He was a serious repair help person. He loved getting calls from older folks and being able to save them the cost of a service call with what sometimes were easy repairs.

    Joe Gagnon.

He had come back on WJR radio 3 or5 years ago and had someone doing most of the talking and he took the actual phone calls only.

Pretty bougie if your coffeemaker indicates when descaling is due. The only control on mine is a small single pole single throw switch.

She’s funny. All day long when the guys are working and making noise, she hangs out either in my office or in my bedroom on the bed and won’t go near the guys or the workspace. The moment they leave she is immediately aware they are gone and goes into the work area to check it out. Today when they placed the base cabinets on the new floor she went inside every one of them to check things out. She’s very attached to me, which I don’t mind.

If I ever upgrade coffee makers, it would need to be one that grinds the coffee, fills the reservoir, puts the coffee in the filter, dispenses the coffee, and then self-cleans the filter.

I have one of those now, sort of. It's at UDF, a regional quick market with coffee machines that let me select the size of cup I want to brew, and then it grinds the beans, hits them with hot water, and then squirts it into my cup after a minute. It's like watching a Starbucks commercial where the commercial isn't about the flavor or quality of the coffee vs price--instead it's all about the sounds and affects that go along with getting the coffee made.

I can put in various flavorings of french vanilla from the cappuccino dispensing machine. And voila, I have perfect coffee. No washing, disassembling, no nothin' at home.

I like our Keurig.......it makes better coffee than most coffee shops and better than most restaurants. I like coffee, but there is a limit to how much time and energy I want to spend making it. I drink it....I don't fantasize about it being a defining moment in my life. It's like a trade-off, I like it, but I also have many more things to accomplish in a day. Working people spend time savoring a coffee for hours so they can take time off working. :D

They used to allow smoking at the office. I always thought smokers should get 10% less pay, they spend 10% of their time emptying an ash tray, looking for their lighter, digging a cigarette out of the package, bumping it on the ends on top of the desk, then dramatically lighting up, and then sitting back breathing smoke in and out, watching the smoke curl as it rises, close their eyes to savor the moment.....etc etc. My mistake, they should deduct 20%.

OF, yes, 75% of last years payment sounds about right. But again, free money. It really is a great job for a retiree who wants something to do a few days a week. Even working four days now, still getting around 29 hours per week, give or take. Unlike you guys up north, we don't travel as far as y'all do which is a shame because I really do miss the long distance part of the job. When I started out in early 2013, we'd be driving most of the state, which I loved. There was many weeks we'd be going to Tampa/Sarasota a half dozen times and working twelve to thirteen days in a row was necessary. But we had no set schedule, something I really wanted. Knowing the days I have to work make the weeks just fly by.

Not sure when I'll stop and that depends if our plans to move in a couple of years really happen. Guessing the only way we'd go sooner if my health goes down real quick & then, won't really care. And if that does happen, our girls will step in & do the heavy lifting.
