I paid off the plow guy today. Probably tempting fate. He just said if we get a fluke late snowfall we can just ignore it and it should melt soon. Because he has no desire to put the plow back on his truck.
One of my kids(early 30's) got into watching Formula 1 back during Covid when they had to stay home all the time. I was like What? You get up on Sunday morning before 11 am? Well, their enjoyment of F1 has persisted. After building the Ferarri and Mercedes Lego cars, looking to build the McLaren and Red Bull cars next. I bought her the McLaren so we can bring it on our visit in a couple of weeks.

@jmonroe1, That kit is not for me. I definitely would enjoy it though. I started making stuff with Lego's around 1960.

You guys are my fellow audio buffs … I seriously have a problem. I just buy random audio components to add to my collection.
This week’s acquisition - A JVC RX-905V. It was about $1000 unit back in 1992. I have all the other matching JVC titanium finish components to go with it. I loved those when they first came out.
Working on my office to include a new rack and I’m gonna pair it with a pair of PSB Image 4T.
I hope my Adcom stack doesn’t get jealous.
I’ve been comparing the JVC to the Adcom and although the Adcom is better the JVC hangs right with it powering my very inefficient Marantz speakers.
I have a stereo dilemma here too. I had many systems in my younger years and always had a preference for Pioneer equipment from their silver era in the '70s. In the early '00s with eBay's heyday I was able to get the stuff I always wanted. So while I still have my original little SX-3600 receiver downstairs, I have a bunch that I got about 15-20 years ago that I never use, some of it set up, others in boxes on the shelf. In the living room I have a Pioneer SX-3900, top of the line and the last of the silver Pioneers, plus sitting in boxes in storage, a SX-3800 and a SX-880. Add to that an assortment of other gear like an early '70s Pioneer H-R 100 8-track record/play deck (was useful when I had the Cutlass with its factory 8-track deck), various other cassette player/recorders, later CD players, plus speakers (PSB 40 MKII in the living room), none of which I ever use now. Plus hundreds of albums and CDs of course.
At this stage I want to get rid of all of it. Local is the only practical option, but finding someone trustworthy who is willing to pay anything close to what it is worth is a challenge.
No one will pay what you think it’s worth. Just think of all the years of enjoyment you got out of these things and find someone/some place to take them off your hands. You got the value out of them already.

Grandkids went Florida for a few days with their parents. We are babysitting the grand-dog so she didn't have to go into the kennel, although she is ok with it. Took advantage of the opportunity to clean up my daughters 22 Escape. Yesterday, took it to the car to the car wash and started wiping it down to get off the excess soap residue. Today, wiped it down the rest of it, used a cleaner wax to get all the scratches and scrapes out of it except 1 1/2. Then put on a coat of buttery wax to finish off the outside. Also cleaned the door jams and lubed all the door and rear hatch gaskets. Wiped down the engine bay with a damp cloth. Wife helped out cleaning the interior by scrubbing the all weather mats and vacuuming the floor. Not done but getting there.

Sister’s estate is going about as well as I could hope. So far have paid off mortgage, HELOC and car notes. Only one remaining claim on estate - student loan for one of her kids who are now 37 and 41 and she was paying off their student loans. That seems so crazy to me. I did get one claim removed since they filed over a month late.
Malpractice case filed but I just learned that since she had no surviving spouse or dependents, the cap in IN is $300,000. That seems so wrong.

Not sure what it's worth. How long has any of it been in storage? Those Pioneer Receivers were nice.
If they work, I'd say $500-$900 for each Receiver. If they don't work, maybe a ¼ of that, depending on cosmetics.
I'd say take some pics and throw them up on FaceBook Marketplace and see if you get any serious takers after you sift through all the "is this still available?" and "I'll give you $100 cash" flakes.

But I don’t know if that company makes what you need, which would be equivalent to a window tint. The products are applied differently. Window tint is more rigid and is applied with water.

I emailed and spoke with MP atty and it is wrongful death (substantive) and malpractice (procedural) and capped at $300,000 for loss of love and companionship + legal fees and costs + funeral and medical expenses. It is low because no surviving spouse and no dependents. Seems odd but it is what it is.

———————————————— You want to hear about flakes, listen to this:
I told this tale a few years ago when Son #1 was selling his 2008 Town and County with around 120K miles on it. I think it was in 2015 but that’s not important.
Given it was a Chrysler, he had his share of problems with it over his years of ownership but everything was covered by warranty. He just had to live with the inconvenience of it being in the shop so much. Now the transmission was starting to slip a little but he had it priced accordingly for private sale. A guy comes to look at it and seemed interested in it the way it sat and would get back to him in a day or two. However, before the guy got back to him my son decided since it had a lifetime warranty on the power train to the original owner (which is what enticed him to buy it in the first place), he’d see if the dealer would cover the transmission but he was sure they’d find a way to weasel out of the warranty but figured it was worth a try. He almost fell over when the dealer said they’d replace the tranny under warranty and he wouldn’t have to spend a penny out of his pocket. He called the guy and told him what was going on and he would get back to him when he got the car out of the shop.
My son was still going to sell it to him at the initial asking price since he felt obligated to do that. FWIW, I told him he was crazy and I would have relisted it for more since the guy didn’t agree to buy it when he had the chance but he didn’t care what I said. He was just happy to be getting rid of it and the sooner the better.
So, he calls the guy when he got it back and wanted to know when he would come over to buy it. The guy was thrilled about that and then said, “I’ll buy it if you take another thousand bucks off your price”. That’s the second time my son almost fell over about that car and he told the guy no deal and he hung up. I can’t remember now what he raised the price to but I think it was a grand or a little more, relisted it noting it had a new factory tranny and his phone never stopped ringing.
There are flakes and there are total idiots. I’d say my son came across a total idiot.

Thanks. I was seeing that brand, but all options were expensive enough that I thought I would ask before I committed. I don't need a large piece, so I'll try a 3'x5' roll and see how it goes. I really do need it as a complete visual block, so I thought I would try the automotive stuff, as the window-specific wraps tend to either be a tint or more like privacy screening.

I think I’d enjoy building those Lego sets (there was even a vending machine at the Vegas airport today selling them today), but storing them once completed could be a problem. Also, could make for an expensive hobby.
I’m amazed at the number of people who watch videos on their phones on a multi hour flight when a $50 Fire tablet (less than that on sale) would give them a much bigger screen.

The upside is that there is a patient compensation fund that is funded via extra fee on malpractice insurance. The MP carrier pays the first amount and the patient compensation fund pays the remainder. Guaranteed payment vs a claim that may or not get paid.
have a sore back now (great!) but had a productive day. Took a load of scrap metal I pulled out of my brush area (back to cleaning up the dump now that it warmed up a little!) which was a bunch of aluminum panels (I think an old cabinet of some kind, I did not find all of it, but possibly aluminum siding) and the rusty contractors wheelbarrow I dug up last fall and been seeing out by the trees ever since. So that was nice.
then went down to spend a few hours after lunch helping our son and DIL with a few projects. That ended up taking until about 10:00 including a dinner break. Had to problem solve a number of issues (involving a total of 3 trips to Lowes.) First worked on replacing an existing ceiling fan in their bedroom (30 year old unit and very wobbly). Turns out the new style brackets don't work well with a 1950s vintage ceiling box. and the ceiling was crumbling and wiring old and stiff so a real pain working in a very tight space and trying to fit the receiver box in a small canopy. Whoever designed that set up shot be shot into the son. But a bunch of washers as a spacer dropped it low enough to work with some fiddling, and eventually got it all hooked up and the remote synced. Got some sore shoulders out of that. But it looks nice, way more stable, and no more rattling and other bad noises.
should have eaten and run after that, but he really wanted to get the wall mount up and TV in the living room on the wall. another design that needed some design improvements. The biggest issue was needing a 7/32 drill bit that was not in the kit I brought (my son had the same one) so the pilot holes were only 3/16, so son got a good workout running the lag bolts into undersized pilot holes. And a 3rd trip to Lowes because the "fits most" disclaimer meant that their bolt collection to attach the rails to the TV did not have any long enough for his TV. longest were 35, turned out it needed 50s. Thankfully we bought some of them. And then the mounting bracket did not have enough holes (about 1/4" too narrow) so had to drill out a couple of extras, but at least they worked. After that it went pretty quickly, and when we left it was hanging on the wall nice and steady, level, and the right height. Up to them to run the wires tomorrow.
Now I hope my back spasms settle down overnight and I don't end up crippled for a week! Not doing anything strenuous tomorrow, that is for sure.
Are you thinking of trading yours in? I just noticed, yours is a 2015....it seems that you just got it a year or two ago. Our C250 is a 2014 but it was made in 2013. Does that mean it is 11 years old or 12 years old? Which sounds better?
Yesterday a storm came through Louisville and the front windshield of our Outback was hit. The top layer of the sandwiched glass has been broken in this small area seen in the photos below.
My thought is to either try to sand it out ourselves and hope for the best, or take it to a windshield repair place.
My wife suggests either going through our State Farm insurance or paying ourselves for it to replaced.

There are flakes and there are total idiots. I’d say my son came across a total idiot.

I’m sorry to hear you are going through this. It is awful to hear that the state has put a cap on what a life is worth.
The upside is that there is a patient compensation fund that is funded via extra fee on malpractice insurance. The MP carrier pays the first amount and the patient compensation fund pays the remainder. Guaranteed payment vs a claim that may or not get paid.
then went down to spend a few hours after lunch helping our son and DIL with a few projects.

Now I hope my back spasms settle down overnight and I don't end up crippled for a week! Not doing anything strenuous tomorrow, that is for sure.

Any thoughts?
