I have a Samsung fridge at home. What that means is an ice maker is a lost cause. I've resorted to a cheap countertop unit which makes the worlds crappiest ice. Its ok for ice water but not much else.

I use silicone trays of various sizes for shaking cocktails or if I want a bourbon on the rocks.

Even when working the Samsung ice maker made crappy ice. If you take pride in making good cocktails, ice is actually very important.

Our 2012 ish Frigidaire at the shore has an awesome ice maker with a monster bucket.

@sda That is really too bad about the damage done to the washing machine. Those are beautiful looking appliances, Whirlpools do have a good designer.
Our dishwasher came from Home Depot. My B-I-L and I had it halfway installed when we saw a similar dent on the side near the front.....it looked like a fork on the lift truck dented it.
Unfortunately we didn't see it until it was almost installed. When I called customer service they asked why I didn't report it when it was delivered? MrsD100 signed for it and trusted them.
I said, do you think, I would get it almost installed, have to pull it out, wait another week or two to get another one and have to do dishes by hand again, to get my jollies out of damaging this one? You were wise to make them take it away.
Just my guess, but usually the company delivering the appliance is an independent contractor, I think they are extra careful not to damage the appliance, it is more likely to happen at the warehouse.
When I was in high school I worked at a warehouse and they had cheap 20 inch TV's in boxes. Sometimes the warehouse guys played football tossing the boxes around. They were packaged well but I wouldn't be surprised if a few of them got damaged. Furniture has a huge rate of damaged goods.....unless the new specialty furniture companies have found a way to cut down on that.

It is the one inside the refrigerator or is it in the freezer compartment?

The former has been well documented as a disaster for Samsung. If that is what you have, I can't believe you have a working one (that doesn't have to be defrosted weekly).

For the record... mine technically works but freezes up constantly and not worth the effort. It's been replaced twice by Samsung under extended warranty campaign.

I have the one in the freezer compartment. We don’t tend to get the in the door icemakers because according to Consumer Reports that is the most troublesome component of any fridge.

Speaking of cheap trips, my trip to the Detroit Auto Show is going to be fairly cheap, but also, almost got cheaper since my company has a high-stakes trial in Pontiac they want me to observe and I could have extended the trip. It was set for next week, but (unfortunately) is probably going to be continued, meaning the auto show will be a separate trip. Oh, well, good way to break in the new tires on the Maverick. And, our defense counsel helpfully told me where the "nice" (read: expensive and the company will pay for it) hotels near the trial venue are located.

@venture - that stinks. McD's is a fairly occasional treat for me. I use the app and usually have them deliver curbside. Occasionally, I'll go inside to pick it up. I like that you can order the burger patties (and fries) with no salt from within the app, which I usually do. The rewards are pretty good. IIRC, $15 spent gets you a free cheeseburger. The "catch" is that you can only redeem one free item per visit.

Today was one of those "running all over town" days.

A little after noon I was going past McDonalds and went through the empty drive through. One of my 2 or 3 visits a year.

I ordered a quarter pounder with cheese and fries. When I got to the pickup window they said to pull over and they would bring it out. Strange. I would assume those items are bought regularly. A little while later they brought it out.

It took so long because they had to wait for the burger to get cold and for the fries to burn. :/

As long as they got it right.😂

Customer service is slipping all over. Went to Taco Bell drive through with a not too complicated order except one family member wanted some tacos with no vegetables. A few other items and an order of nachos & cheese.

When I got home I found that they had put vegetables on all the tacos and had forgotten the nachos (of course they charged me for them). The order taker looked to be older than me.

I’m seeing more and more geriatric workers at service businesses across the board and I wonder if that isn’t because they aren’t able to find the traditional teen workers who are able to get an order right.

1/4 Pounders are supposed to made to order, so the workers probably just dropped the ball on bringing it out.

Not a huge McD's fan except for their breakfast and fries. We get it for the kids occasionally, especially in the summer since it is so close and they can ride their bikes there. I order it in the app for them and they just walk in and pick it up.

I’m not a huge fast food fan. The only time we hit up McDonald’s is when we are driving in rural interstates that have few food choices. Their coffee is excellent too.

Same here. I try to avoid fast food for the most part. My kids LOVE Chic Fil A. As busy as they are, usually you get served in a reasonable amount of time. The restaurants are run very well. We also like Chipotle.

Even though I'm 61 I've never been to a Chick-fil-A in my whole life. In general we don't go to fast food, but over the decades we've been to most of the chains at least a few times, but never that one. But there's a Chick-fil-A next to our Costco and I've been mildly curious for years. What is the thing to order there that people like?

The spicy chicken sandwich and fries are EXCELLENT! I've been on somewhat of a healthy eating kick since the middle of December and I've eaten their Grill Chicken Sandwich as a lettuce wrap which is good too. The lemonade is delicious.

I'll second the spicy chicken sandwich. Many people love their sauces too which is part of the appeal. Heck Raising Canes pretty much must survive on their sauce as everything else there is mid-tier at best.

I'm the weird one (yeah, yeah) in that I'd pick an Italian hoagie or roast pork sandwich over traditional fast food chains.

You didn't mention what you paid, but I'm guessing it was over ten bucks. I had an identical experience about a year ago, including the wait in the time-out parking. I haven't been to a MacD since and have stricken them from my list of acceptable vendors. I never went very often, but generally enjoyed my meal when I did. I'm done.

You mentioned the drive-through was empty -- no wonder.

I used to get a couple of Egg McMuffins for breakfast from time to time, but for less money ($9.25) I can get a freshly-made ham and cheese omelet at the Waffle house, with toast and hash browns, served by a cheerful human being who's worked there for years. No contest.
I like Mickey D’s bacon egg & cheese biscuit but for a dollar less I can get a chicken egg & cheese biscuit at Chickfil-A. Our work crew occasionally goes to Wendy’s for the Biggie Bag lunch which is as little as $6.

My favorite McD breakfast sando is the sausage egg and cheese McMuffin. I also like that it gets a fresh cracked egg.

I've begun to make them at home. Walmart sells a 100% dupe of the sausage patty. To keep it a little lower calorie I use their turkey version of the patties which are good but not quite a dupe. Use a mold to cook the eggs and the home made version looks and tastes very close.

I haven't done the math, but it certainly is cheaper.

ChickFilA offers a variety of things we like. Grilled chicken sandwich, I add pepper jack cheese slice to it for 30 cents. The waffle fries are great. We like the chicken strips. And for many days a cup of tortilla soup, when it's in season (now) or chicken noodle with fries or chicken strips.
My most ordered item is a side salad with strips. They do good portions on the salads, especially if you like a cobb salad size portion. The large salad can be ordered with various versions of chicken on them. Or no meat.

I recommend downloading the chickfila app to your phone, signing up for an account, and then going to the menu on the app to see the variations for ordering, along with nutrition information.

@tjc78 - the Sausage Egg McMuffin is my fave, too. I don’t usually like a heavy breakfast, so when they have had a BOGO promo, I’ve gotten two and only eat half of one. The other 3/4 go in the fridge for the next three days’ breakfast. They’re good with a few drops of hot sauce on the inside of the bun!

The price increase was just another nail in the coffin. I didn’t think it was as good as it was a year or two ago.

Don’t worry for Chic Fil A, they’ll never miss my business. They are so busy at a large outdoor shopping center near me that they had to create a special route through the shopping center parking lot to accommodate their drive-thru customers. You’d have to see it to believe it. It’s almost comical, with all the directional signs, but it seems to be working.

It was $8.03. It was a small order of fries. I gave the guy 3 pennies and a $20 bill. After a while the little window opened and he handed me a receipt, $12, and he had a few pennies he tried to give me. I said, "You said $8.03 and I gave you the 3 pennies". He mumbled something about it being $7something. I don't know. I moved along.

Yeah. I had a pause when the drive through was empty at about 12:10 pm.

I often find that people outside grocery stores have difficulty handling cash and giving the proper change. We were at a mall on Long Island a few weeks ago. A female in one retail store gave me $10 too much change which I promptly returned. At the pretzel store, the guy shorted me $20. I always count my change. The thing that baffles me is that the amount of change you should be given is printed right on the receipt!

I guess that means if you ever go back to that McD's they'll probably recognize you. :)

    Ha! Probably.

I find it difficult to fathom why folks still use cash when a card is a quicker/easier option. I never use cash.

I use Google Pay with my phone usually. At McDonalds that's a tedious chore.

    Good point.....what is change?
I haven't carried change around with me for years.....since covid actually when stores didn't want cash. I can even use a credit card at the DIY car wash!

Ever stand in line behind a little old lady at the grocery store whose bill comes to $12.63.

Lady counts out money to the cashier, "Now here dearly, here is $5, here is a $1, here are 7 quarters, here is 18 dimes, now here are................................."

I was behind one of those at $1.25Tree the other day, and the cashier got snippy with the customer because the customer said something about making it easier for the cashier by giving exact change, lol.

I’m surprised that a cashier would be unpleasant at a high end outlet like that. 🤣
