Thanks for your help.
Auburn mentioned either distributor, rotor, coil or main fuel relay for a similar problem. I have had a coil wire problem for years. I've replaced the wire but it still occurs and I just unplug and plug it back in and the car starts. I'm sure this is a different problem though because the car catches and dies as opposed to just cranking. I had the gas filter, distributor and rotor replaced a few weeks ago but the problem persists. The dealer says he has never replaced a main fuel relay on this model and wants to do a diagnostic ($$). I have 140K miles.
I appreciate your response.
carguy62,
TW stands for temperature water and it is one of the sensers that the computer uses to determine the mixture and injector duration. It is on the top side of the motor near the distributor in the thermostat extension housing. There is two together and the tw is the one on the inside closest to the valve cover.I think the connector is green but not for sure and will be a 2 pin.
My '99 Civic DX,manual trans is approaching it's recommended 30k service. I just had Honda look at it at their free service clinic. Everything is fine except that the coolant was low in the bottle. My question to you is, besides using mobil 1 and Honda filter and spark plugs and air filter what other services and fluid changes would you recommend?
I live in western NJ. and don't do city driving.
Thanks for your help.
I have a question that I am really interested to know about. Can you install a steering mounted vol control on a 01 EX without leather. I guess it should not be that difficult since EX with leather already has it.
I am looking for 01 EX manual and would like to have vol control on the steering, but I am not interested in leather. Greenlight.com is giving a price of $19962, Drivroff.com $20132. Did anyone got a better price than these. These are out the door prices except T,T&L.
I guess I need to post this message in the Accord 4 forum, but nobody there answered this question. Thanks and happy driving.
This conference is not the best place to find pricing information.
Good luck.

I found this out today when I carried my wife's 97 Accord in for the free service clinic. Her car showed up on their computer as being part of the recall. They will not do anything to it until I receive the official recall notice from American Honda. Hope the seal doesn't pop out before then!!!
As for the 91, I snugged up the oil pan bolts a little last night. Looks like minor seepage from the oil pan and the transmission. Guess I will just keep an eye on them for now.
Thanks for your answers!!!!
I appreciate everyone's kind responses to questions on this site.
Thanks again.
as the 1-2 shift. If I drive under very very light throttle, all shifts are smooth. Under just the right throttle, the 1-2 shift can be noticeably smoother. Under full throttle, there can be some clutch slippage. It doesn't matter whether the engine is cold or hot. All downshifts when stopping are smooth. I have the service manual and did the standard troubleshooting. No trouble codes logged. Adjusted the throttle cable, flushed the transmission fluid with Honda ATF, performed stall speed tests, checked for smooth operation of the throttle control lever, and closely monitored shift sequences / lock-up clutch ... all normal. Before dismantling the transmission to do a major overhaul, I'm wondering if this is symptomatic of something I'm missing. In particular, I'm wondering if I have a defective (sluggish or binding) shift control solenoid valve
assembly. I'd appreciate any words of wisdom.
Have you had any experience with Toyotas?
I posted this in another forum, but will repost here feeling that this is the appropriate place for Accord nisbehaves.
My '01 LX has squeak on the right front door everytime I went over road bumps at freeway speed.
It doesn't happen all the
time, only when there are alot of uneven bumps on
the freeway. It sounds like something is loose in the door, a door skin, speaker or something. I just can't seem to find it. I don't know if I can reproduce it for the service guy. Any idea?
Also my Radio has this static noise that comes on
very so often. It sounds like the speaker wires are touching each other, "tach, tach, tach". It comes on for a few seconds and disappear. It happens regularly when turning. It's much easier to hear when listening to AM than FM because of mostly talk show and less
background noise. I'm not sure if it happens with the CD player too since it's too loud with CD. Also if I turned down the volume, the static sound went down as well.
Anyone has similar problems or suggestion? I'll call the service guy, but want to make sure I can
reproduce it before I'll hear "We never heard that
before" excuse.
Thanks
Just in case anyone is interested, I paid $23,250 plus TT&L for the car. The only option that the dealer added was the pinstripes. They wouldn't throw in the mud guards and wheel locks. Does anyone know where I can get the best deal for accessories?
Thanks.
Actually, this topic is focused specifically on maintenance and repair issues for Accord owners and is not the best place in Town Hall to seek buying advice.
I suggest you check out this topic over in our Coupes, Convertibles and Sportscars Conference:
Honda Accord vs. Camry Solara (Topic #621)
There are other Solara and Accord topics that may interest you in that conference, as well as some more Accord topics in our Sedans conference. You can find them by using the Topic Search feature on the left side of this page.
Good luck.

Regarding the wheel locks and mud guards you can get most OEM accessories at a number of places. I used www.hondapartsforyou.com (free shipping). You can also try www.honda-accessories.com,
www.partscheap.com and www.hparts.com
The only complaint I have was that he was supposed to have a silver one moved to the back on Friday, thats when I talked to him and told him that I would be driving out there the following day to consume the deal. So I really don't know if he had the silver one to begin with or if it was sold between Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
Anyways, I'm real happy with the car and I'll be comparing it to my '99 Camry LE V6. I realize it is a little unfair to the Camry but it should be pretty close.
I did call the service dept and they told me that they are carrying motorcraft 5W20 for now and should be getting in the Honda 5W20 soon. One dealer in Austin claims they have 5W20 in bulk in the service dept and the part dept have 0W20 Honda oil in stock. The 2nd Austin dealer have placed an order for the 5W20 oil but have not received it as yet.
Duper,
It sounds as if you are hearing normal am reception problems.Try it on Fm and also with the cd player and see if you hear it.As for the rattle in the door there is nothing common that I can think of so that one will need hands on..
Our dealer has bulk 5w30 that we have been using for a while. Not sure where we get it from or what brand it is.
Tsprague,
I would fix the AC before trading it in unless you can get good numbers on a new one then start all over again with the payments.
Carguy62,
Why would you need to splice into the wires? If you have found the correct sensor then it should have a 2 pin connector that unplugs and then you remove the rubber coating at the base and use a deep socket to remove it from the thermostat housing (17mm I think).Install a new and plug it in..
I know that this has been a common problem, because in Feb. the parts man at my dealer showed me the retainer that was being used to hold the seal in. I had the seal replaced in my 91 at 90k miles when the timing belt was replaced.
The Honda Accord LX that i just bought carries a special break-in oil according to the dealer service department. They recommend it be changed at 3750 miles, but some books on car maintainance suggest it be changed after the break-in period which is 600 miles.
Any insight on this is greatly appreciated.
Dustin
I have the 2000 Accord V6 coupe EX. I bought it because of the styling and sporty ride. Overall, this car has the best design and handling..
It also comes with a state-of-art, patented transmission technology which is supposed to provide efficient gas mileage and be maintenance-free.. And as a added bonus, I got the most controversial SHUDDERING problem!!!! It's killing me!!
Yesterday, I finally went to the BBB arbitration, because for 1.5 years, Honda has been putting me down on fixing the transmission. Not only have about 3 dealers in Orlando, FL been ignoring me, but American Honda hasn't done jack [non-permissible content removed] about it either.. Finally, just recently, they replaced my torque converter.. The problem went away for a week, but then it came right back!! I've showed them almost 500 posting from this town hall discussion about the transmission shudder problem and the fix is to replace the entire transmission+torque convertor assembly. But they claim it all BS!!! In fact, they say it is unfortunate that I don't appreciate the characteristic of the transmission (like its only me who feels that way)
I had the regional Honda service technician attend the arbitration and told everyone that there is NOOO fix for the shuddering in the Accord V6 EX.. at least he admitted the problem in front of the arbitrators.. then we all went for a test-drive and the arbitrators REALLY felt the transmission shudder between 50-65mph and the rattling coming out from the ceiling.. the arbitrators too were surprised at the quality of the Honda flagship model.. So far, I don't know the outcome of the arbitration.. it will take a couple of days before they decide..
in any case, I need HELP!! i noticed a lot of you had unsuccessful results from just replacing the torque convertor.. in fact, many of you have several torque converters replaced and it didn't help.. UNTIL a new entire transmission+torque convertor assembly was put in your vehicle.. I NEED TO KNOW the name of the dealership and the service advisor who helped you when they replaced the entire transmission and it fixed the problem... Also, I did not find any remedies for the roof rattles. plz email me at maddogv6@yahoo.com ... I would greatly appreciate any information from you regarding this matter..

I'm intersted in either an '01 Accord LX V6, or the LX I-4 5spd. I'd like to get the V6 but am a little leary with all of the transmission problems with that engine out there.
Is anyone having tranny (or other) problems with specifically the '01 V6 ??
Thanks in advance
Most dealers seem to recommend the first Oil change on a new Accord at 3000 / 3750 miles but the manual recommends 7500 miles.
Is there any *harm* in changing the oil at 3750 ? Does Honda use some special kind of oil that should *not* be changed before 7500 miles?
I know most VW/Audi cars have some special oil that should not be changed before the recommended milage.
For those who like to change your oil at 3750 go right ahead and do so, over maintnance never hurt anyone that can afford it.Others can wait until 7500. Anything sooner than 3750 is not necessary and or recomended. Good luck
is 15400-POH-305). The part that they sent me is
15400-PT7-005 made in Canada. They explained to me
that they are made by 2 different manufacturers but basically are the same. Does anyone know the
difference between the two?
Thanks a lot.
That is in a correct idle range for those temps, the only thing I can't recall is the climb from 1200 to 1500. Usally it will go right to the highest idle it needs then decend slowly as it warms. Normal idle sounds correct. I will pay attention over the next few days and see.
dnguyen65
We use the "POH" one and I haven't seen the other one. If you already bought it then just match them up when you ake off the old one and or drop by the dealer and have them compare it.
Yesterday my wife told me it actually got up close to 2000 when she first started it. This seems way too hard on a cold engine, don't you think?
