I drive an 03 Honda EX V6. I love the car but just noticed that the leather seat on the driver's side is starting to wrinkle and crack. The car is about 2 and a half yrs old and has been garaged. The cracking is on the side bolster near the door..which is the side that probably gets the most wear from the driver sliding in and out. None of the other leather surfaces exhibit this problem. I wonder if this is normal "wear and tear" or is this an unusual problem that should be covered under warranty? I have not treated the leather in any way. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
Hello all. I've read several pages worth of posts, and I have not seen my problem addressed. When driving my wife's Accord (V6, auto), it seems to suddenly increase the throttle without any driver input. More specifically, I might be going up a short incline or just driving on a flat road, and the vehicle seems to suddenly surge forward. The RPM's increase by 500-600. It does not appear that the car in downshifting as my pressure on the gas pedal remains constant and I'm driving on a flat surface. If this only happened going uphill, I might chalk it up to simple downshifting. However, this has occurred on a flat road, and one can normally tell when a car has downshifted rather than simply surging forward. Has anyone experienced this? I know the Accords are now throttle by wire, so throttle is controlled electronically. Is there a chance that the sensor is telling the car to accelerate without any driver input? Any help would be most appreciated.
Do you realize that to change the Low beam light bulb on 2003-2005 Honda Accord Coupes that you undo the turn the steering wheel all the way the opposite side and undo the wheel well splash cowling. The little plastic cowling rivites don't realse and pop out as easily as they should. On the left side on the 6-speed MT you also remove the air duct.
I have a 98 Accord V6. I replaced my original tires at about 55,000 with the Bridgestone Turanza LS-H through Tire Rack. The salesman recommended the H over the V unless you are a very aggressive driver. The V tires have a stiffer sidewall for better cornering, but the ride is also more stiff.
The LS-H's are a little stiffer ride than the Michelins but the Bridgestones handle better in both wet and dry. In snow, they seem comparable to the Michelins. I've put 30,000 on the Bridgestones and would buy them again. Great tire.
Speaking of tire options. I wonder if anyone has tried The Goodyear assurance Comfortread or tripletreads? And how that would compare to the bridgestone ls-h's and the oem michelins. I have a 04EXV6 sedan.
Is anyone experiencing gas strut noise coming from the rear of the car? I just noticed my '03EXV6 doing this. Sounds like quick bursts of an air hose releasing pressure. Am I crazy?
Prior to my 04 Accord V-6 Coupe, I had a 1999 Nissan Maxima. The car came stock with Bridgestone Potenzas and I thought they were the crappiest tire I'd ever seen on a car - even after they replaced two out of the four for belt shifts.
I replaced them at 40k with Michelin Pilot XGT4 tires - VAST improvement in quietness, ride quality, and durability with no noticeable loss in handling security. FYI, I drive ~100 miles roundtrip to work everyday (85% hwy, 15% local), mostly at speeds that would shock the average police officer's conscience enough to make him drop his donuts, spill his coffee, and give chase. They're way better than the Michelin MXV4s on my new Honda (incidentally, I was also never thrilled with the MXV3s on my first Honda - a 91 EX Sedan).
My 04 Accord V-6 Coupe's (MT) 2 newest rattles are:
(1) a jiggling type of sound coming from the vicinity of the passenger C-pillar or just behind the rear passenger headrest. Very annoying - seems to be more prevalent on rough pavement or when on a curving road with an uphill incline.
Dealer has tightened the airbag canister (my best guess is that it is the gas canister hitting the shield - I had a similar problem on the driver's side that was fixed with adhesive foam padding inserted between the canister and the shield). Problem persisted and Honda Techline instructed dealer to grind the metal flange on the top of the passenger side rear shock absorber.
Problem is better since dealer did these two things, but not eliminated. Very very annoying to put up with for 100 miles roundtrip to work every day.
(2) Rattle No. 2 is "ticking" sound from just in front of the wheel and the gauge cluster. Its the same kind of tick a set of keys would make if you separated them into two side on a keyring and then let them hit together. However, it does it even with only the ignition key and no other keys on the ring in the ignition.
Re: your rattles -- the first rattle--> I think I have the same one, but dealer never "hears it".
The second rattle --> I believe I have the same as yours--see my post # 9734. Here's the main text of that post that pertains to that particular rattle:
"I have had a steering column rattle in my '04 V6 sedan since about 2K miles only -- dealer finally traced it to faulty spring in horn plate assembly, and after twisting their arm, they replaced the assembly, which initially worked, only to have the rattle return one month later. Anybody else have this, especially any solutions out there?"
Good luck -- and be sure and let all of us know if you have any progress / luck!!!
there are many possibilities for that I would think, but it wouldn't happen to correspond to the A/C compressor kicking in? Your car would certainly raise RPMs for that, though you shouldn't of course notice it. Just a shot in the dark. good luck
I have a mechanical question. I have a 1990 Honda Accord. For a few days now, it has been very shaky. When I let my hands off the steering wheel the wheel jerks back and fourth. I have to hold the wheel very tight because it is all over the place if I don't. It seems to have a mind of its own. Also when I go over 40 miles an hour the wheel seems to stop jerking as much but the car makes noise. The noise is one that you would hear when you have a flat tire. I am completely lost when it comes to cars. I am thinking it sounds like an alignment problem. Do you have any idea what this is? Your help is greatly appreciated.
You may have a belt in a tire that has slipped off center or has broken. It could be a part of the tread has let go and has formed a lump on the tire. If you roll slowly on a very smooth road or driveway to a business, you should feel the car wobbling from the effect of a bad tire.
Get it checked immediately. Drive slowly... so if the tire blows, you can keep control. The fact you hear the whomp sound at speed concerns me.
I came across this in another forum and I couldn't remember seeing a link to it in here ever. I know this was a problem for me at one time and is reportedly common among the 90-93s at least so I thought I'd post a link.
Shows how to repair your transmission control module if you suffer from a common failure relating to a blown capacitor on the board. Of course you could send yours out to be repaired or try to salvage something from a yard....but where's the fun in that
I am stuck on whether to buy a used 04 2WD Limited highlander or a 05 EX-V6 Accord. I know they are two different vehicles but I have always driven a car and wanted a SUV. Some of my concerns Highlander - Hesitation problem Gas milage 18/25 Seats are more comfortable
Accord - better gas milage 21/30 cost is a little cheaper nice ride/nice accerlation the exterior is boring/love the interior I am really torn, any input would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 2003 Accord LX V6. It has what I think , is excessive wind noise and rattles in the front doors somewhere. I have had it to the dealer where I bought it here in Tucson and they added some foam stuff for the wind noise and it wasn't much better and they said that the noise I now heard was normal. It is considerable and not what I excpect from an Accord. A Chevy? Sure. Ford? You betcha. But, not a Honda. I took it to the other Honda dealer in town and they ordered new door seals as they say there is a TSB on this, now. Hmmm..Anyway, just passing this along if you have a similar problem. I'll let ya know how it works out. Peace,Out. John in Tucson
I just posted re noises I am having w/ my '03 LX V6...it doesn't directly relate to your problem but for what it's worth, it's on here today. Good luck!
just got on site. I have 04 V6 accord and I had rear noise (clicking sound over small bumps) that was traced to left rear strut mount. Problem solved by lowering left rear strut with wheel still attached by loosing 2 mounting bolts behind back seat side bolster and re-tightening them. The problem was that the strut at the top was not properly seated. Hope this helps if you still have the car!
I have an 03 EX with beige color leather. My driver seat leather looks like it is very old. It is dark from dirt and wear, also it is blue on the lower back of the seat. I had the seat cover replaced before the car was even a year old because of the blue staining which the dealership claimed was my fault. My jeans must have decided to bleed blue only in my car and not in any other car I ride in. They did replace under warranty, but two short months later, it turned blue again. The leather along with the rest of the car is not right. One more thing, the dealership told me that it was my responsibility to scrub my leather and clean it at least twice a month to maintain its beauty. There is nothing beautiful about that.
My 03 EX Accord with 220 miles left to spare on the 36,000 mile warranty, decided to no longer operate the radio, cd, or dash lights. It just shut down while driving. It isn't a fuse, it has to be electrical. Spring break starts tomorrow, now I have no tunes or much light for that matter. I hear this is a common problem in the 03, and I am not surprised. Anyone have any thoughts, hints, or words of advice? Good luck to all with the 03, I know I'm ready to trade.
I am stuck on whether to buy a used 04 2WD Limited highlander or a 05 EX-V6 Accord. I know they are two different vehicles but I have always driven a car and wanted a SUV.
What is it about the SUV that attracts you? The rollovers and poor overall safety record? The stepladder to get in an out? The poor handling and gas mileage? The increasing rate of depreciation? The jokes people make about SUV drivers?
The Highlander is a short Station Wagon called by another name. The Accord has been named to Car & Driver's 10 Best as the best family sedan almost every year than they started.
Hello, I have an 02 Accord with 61K miles on it. Last time I was at the dealer for an oil change, they mentioned that I was due for a power steering flush ( $118.95). Although I realize that this service may do some good to the car, but is it the right time to do the PSF ? and is the cost of service reasonable ? Many thanks.
Last Wed. I was driving my '03 Accord EX in the Tampa area when the passenger side airbag suddenly deployed for no apparent reason,,no debris in the roadway,,ran over nothing. Car is 18 mo old but has just turned 40k. I had purchased a 100K Honda Care extended warranty for $1380.00 at the time of purchase. Brandon dealer tells me car is out of warranty, Honda Care does not cover airbags,,will cost you 12-15 hundred to have it repaired. I am livid. This should not happen to a car 18 months old,,no matter the miles. Has anyone heard of any similar problems. Comments appreciated. BTW,,does everyone know that Honda Care has NO contractual agreement with Honda,,it is a totally separate insurance company.
Go to Walmart and get a turkey baster, go to a hardware store and get about 8 inches of tubing to attach to the end of the baster, and get a couple of pints of Power steering fluid from your dealer. Suck out as much as you can from your power steering fluid and refill with fresh fluid (usually about 1/2 pint at a time) and then drive around the block. Repeat this procedure two more times.
Although not as complete as a "flush" if you do this every 20K miles if will be just as effective and it only costs about $5 each time. This is about the easiest DIY maintenance there is and only takes a few minutes with no mess.
I actually own both and have no complainmts on either..just different vehicles for different driving situations. I pull a boat with the Highlander and I cruise around in my Honda. Only complaint I have with Highlander is gas miliage is fair..about 18 mpg with avg driving conditions. If I had top choose, I'd take the Accord V-6....
Well, you're asking in what's really an Accord owners forum, so most of us are likely to tell you to go with the Accord, and from your post you seem to have yourself half talked into it already.
But here's what you really have to ask yourself: Is there anything about your situation that dictates a need for an SUV, i.e. the capabilities of an SUV to do something that you CAN'T do with a car, or whatever other vehicle you might have? If for some reason you need an SUV (one guy who has both tows boats with his Highlander, for example), go that route. But if a car will get the job done, you already seem to prefer the Accord anyway, and it strikes me as the better way to go. Oh, and if the exterior is boring, and you don't need 4 doors, there IS the Accord coupe.
There is a TSB out there. Once I find the number [i think 03-085] I'll post it. It has the tech additing a foam type material in the upper rear area of the door seal. All they're doing is building up the seal from the back to make it push up against the body better. Such a weak fix! Why don't they just make better weather stripping. I noticed that the seals on the doors are so cheap compared to my previous car ['02 VW GTI]. Anyway I added some foam which I got from Home Depot per the TSB's instructions and I think the wind noise is gone. I did this on the driver's door. I'm still testing to confirm but I am pretty sure. I also have an annoying noise coming from the height adjustable seatbelt latch on the B-pillar. Extremely annoying. I'm pretty suprised at these quality issues considering everyone I know praising the Honda. It's not different after all.
I totally understand what you mean. I bought a '05 Accord EX-V6. It's a great car but has annoying quality problems [2K miles and noticed wind noise from both front doors and rattling noises from seatbelt buckles on B-pillars]. This is my first Japanese car. I come from the VW world and I also saw a huge quality drop from a German made VW and one made in Brasil or Mexico. We had a '01 Maxima made in Japan and the car was perfect until it died with 210K miles. No complaints there. Honda should be looking at forums like this where real people list the real problems with their cars. That's how quality will improve not only by calling customers to see how their service went at the dealer. You can't even be honest with them since the dealer will see your name as one that gave them bad results. Then who knows what happens to your car the next time it goes in for service. That's my two cents on this.
Hello again, I was just asking when this service should be performed assuming I have 61k miles on the car. Unfortunately, I am not one of those guys who can work on their cars. I would rather let a technician do the job. Thanks in advance
Question: I am considering buying a Honda Accord (2003+), but need to know whether Honda has fixed it's cruise control?
I have driven (not owned) two different hondas, and both had the same problem with the cruise control. There must have been a problem with Honda's speed control algorithm because the car would accelerate past the set speed, then slow down, then accelerate, then slow down, rather than simply using just enough power to maintain the desired speed, like most cruise controls are able to do.
As I said, this happened in two Hondas, one was a CR-V, pre-1996 (not sure what year exactly), and the other was a Civic around '96 or '97.
I'm hoping this problem has been fixed, so I was wondering what year the fix occured so that if I decide to buy a used car I know what years to avoid. If the problem still isn't fixed, it is bad enough that I would probably just buy a Camry or something.
Thanks for the replies. I have only owned 3 GM cars and for the most part have been pleased.(2 cutlass and 1 grand prix). However now I have a child and safety and quality are very important as well as sportiness. So it is so important to me to hear your views on the these vehicles. I have done my research but it truly helps to hear how the cars actually perform. Thank you!
You have a VERY interesting situation. Your airbag deployed for no apparent reason, and the "Honda Care extended warranty does not cover airbags"! ----You have a "safety issue" with this vehicle, and it is "life threatening"!-- As the operator of the vehicle, you could have lost control of the vehicle, and in the process killed or injured yourself or someone else. QUESTION: Have you considered taking the selling Honda dealer & Honda to small claims court? Also look for agencies in your state that deal with vehicle safety issues. You might want to seek advise from the family attorney. This condition, (in this vehicle), that causes the airbag to deploy, is a potential bomb looking for an opportunity to explode. There could be additional legal actions that could be brought against the dealer and Honda. Get legal advice ASAP!
Contact NHTSA via website and 800 number. Contact your local TV station that does the stories about businesses that cheat customers (as if media outlets are honest in all they do!).
I have never heard of a power steering flush being required. I have a 99 camry with 175,000 miles and have never had one done. This may just be a money maker for the dealer, similair to the fuel injection cleaning for $100+ they try to push off on many people. Ask around and check the internet. BTW, does your owners manual call for one?
both very dependable and safe vehicles. The differnce is whether you want or need the extra cargo room, or prefer to sit up higher, which the highlander will offer. The downside is the fuel mileage and the extra cost. The accord will probably hold more of its value. I almost got a highlander 4 years ago, but they were asking too much for them and tough to get, so I went to a minivan. With the price of gas going up, I would now prefer a smaller vehicle, but I do enjoy the hauling ability of the van the few times a year when needed. Again, both nice vehicles,a personal decision, good luck.
I had the same problem with my 03 EX Accord. The radio, cd, and dash light all shut down while I was driving. I just had it fixed and they had to replace the entire display unit. It was still under warranty so I didn't have to pay.
Got the car back from the dealer today. This time, the dealer pried body panels apart to prevent panels from hitting each other. He also siliconed around the airbag gas canister and pried away the canister shield to create greater clearance.
The damn car still rattles in the back. At this point, I'm going to insist that Honda send an engineer out to look at the car. This problem has to be solved.
However, he DID apparently fix the dashboard rattle by removing the instrument cluster and siliconing around the edges to create a soft interface where the hard plastic case of the cluster touches the hard plastic edge of the dash divet it sits in.
My '03 Accord V6EX (25k miles)just started with front brake noise. Took it to my mechanic (ASE cert) and he gave me a copy of the TSB 03-069 and told me to contact the dealership. I brought it in today and they have not called back yet with news, however they charged me $37.50 for a brake inspection and said it would be waived if I chose to have any related repair work done. I again mentioned the TSB and I was informed that it's not the same as a warranty, I'm responsible.
So I called American Honda and got the same story. I mentioned this is a problem that has been noted on hundreds of autos (per this site) and that it was suggested by forum members that I contact them directly. She told me the bulletins are there for assistance is diagnosing problems only. If there are a great deal of complaints about the same thing, a recall will be issued. What a warm fuzzy this is giving me!
After thinking about this issue for a couple of days, I believe that the entire issue is a "Warranty / Extended Warranty issue". The reason is that the Airbag had to be "triggered" by something in the vehicle. Since you did not hit anything, and there was nothing in the road, some type of electrical signal was sent to the airbag deployment mechanism. So while the airbag itself might not be covered by the extended warranty, the electrical wiring and sensors should be covered. If a defective sensor, wiring, relay or actuator deployed the airbag, then both the repair and the bag should be covered. If you have the bag replaced without finding the reason for deployment, you have a very dangerous situation on your hands. I would not want to operate that vehicle. QUESTION: what is keeping the driver's airbag from deploying?
My 03 EX accord radio, cd, and dash light shut down but my warranty has expired. The dealer said I had to replace the entire display...lots of $$ can i just buy an LED? Is there replacement parts for this display unit out there?
My computer screen was flashing red! I checked and it's Gee and Gregory agreeing. Grin.
It's not right the Honda and insurance companies need to step up to the plate here. That would quietly correct a flaw which is in a few cars. A friend hit the brakes hard at 30 mph to miss a dog and the passenger side airbag went off in a Pontiac Sunbird.
I put a set of the tripletreads on my accord v6 . They are very quiet and smooth considering they are very high milage tire. I am very happy with them.
HAVE A 2003 ACCORD V6 I BOUGHT FOR MY DAUGHTER IN SEPT OF 03..SEAT MOVES WHEN BRAKING,BRAKES GRAB AFTER TRAVELLING CLOSE TO THE FLOOR IT SEEMS.SEAT TRACK IS TO BE REPLACED NEXT WEEK,MECHANIC AT HONDA DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES"HONDA HAs very good brakes"..gonna complain next week when i bring it in for the seat track..or take it to a different dealer..let me know if u have any sucess with the brakes,i`ll let u know what happens to me..
I have 2003 Accord with cloth interior and only an 'up' power seat adjustment. The seat does not go back far enough for my legs and the powered 'up' adjustment moves the seat forward as it goes up. This cancels out the room I'm looking for! I've got plenty of headroom to work with even with the moonroof.
I searched the archives and a post by snakehair back in Dec 03 had the same problem but I cannot navigate to any responses, probably due to my inexperince with this site. He ask if anyone had added washers to elevate the seat or other fix.
My 03 EX accord radio, cd, and dash light shut down but my warranty has expired. The dealer said I had to replace the entire display...lots of $$ can i just buy an LED? Is there replacement parts for this display unit out there?
I had the lights go out in my radio/climate control display ('03 EX) a year ago. Fortunately for me, it was under warranty. In my case, the radio itself (not the display) was faulty and replaced. I doubt the display unit is serviceable.
I would recommend checking Ebay to see if someone is selling their entire unit. I saw a couple units a few months ago go for about $200.
Can someone please tell me where to find the fuel filter(if it's inside the fuel tank or outside of it and etc.)for a 1997 honda accord SE 4-cylinder 2dr coupe? I can't seem to find it and I've tried looking in my owner's manual. I'm hoping that it can be found just as similar as the oil filter: quick and easy access. Thanks in advance.

Get it checked immediately. Drive slowly... so if the tire blows, you can keep control. The fact you hear the whomp sound at speed concerns me.

I think the fix occurred in generation 6, year 1999. And Honda introduced generation 7 in 2003, which further improved the cruise control.
