I'm looking into purchasing a QX4 very soon. The dealer incentives ran out March 31,1998. How often are the incentive/holdbacks pages updated? And if it will be awhile until the next posting what are the current incentives/holdbacks for the 98 QX4? Thanks

I'm looking into buying a QX4 very very soon. I noticed the incentive/rebates expired march 31. Any idea what the current programs for the QX4 are? Also how have sales been? I've noticed a few on the lot and wondered how I should approach it. Are they going to be eager to unload or is there enough demand that I should be concerned? And when should we start seeing the 98 and subsequently discounts on the 97? Aug, Oct, any ideas given the past history of the line? Thanks

Mike, you can not combine the $1,000 with GMAC's special financing program. So, do not take this rebate off of the car's price when calculating your finance payments.

Don and Philip, I will post the Cadillac and Ford incentives that you requested in this topic on Monday evening. Please check back then for the answers to your questions.

Michael, the $700 dealer cash incentive that Infiniti had on the QX4 was extended for another month or so nationwide. In answer to your other question, the Edmund's incentives page is constantly updated as new marketing program information comes in during the month.

Chandru I expect the Nissan Maxima incentives to be about the same as they were. Check back in this topic tomorrow and I will have the details for you.

Does anyone know if Chrysler will be extending the rebate on Town and Country minivans beyond 04/06/98?
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
OK Philip, here are the Cadillac incentives. Cadillac is currently offering $1,500 on the DeVille, Concours, Eldorado, & ETC; $1,500 on the Eldorado Autumn Classic; $1,500 on leather Cateras & $3,500 on Cloth Cateras. I hope that this helps you out.

Here are the new Taurus incentives, Don. Ford is presently offering $750 customer cash or 1.9% APR from 12-36 months, 2.9% APR from 37-48 months, or 5.9% from 49-60 months or a special 1.5% lease rate for 24 month leases & a 2.75% lease rate for 36 month leases. The customer cash can not be combined with the special lease or special financing programs.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Here are the new Ford Mustang incentives, Mustangman. Right now Ford is offering $750 customer cash on all Mustang models excluding Cobras. Instead of the cash you can choose a special finance rate of 4.9% from 12-48 months or 6.9% from 49-60 months. Ford also is offering a special 8.00% lease rate. Good luck shopping for your new Mustang!

Robert, the current Chrysler programs expired today and I have not seen the new information yet. I will post it in this conference as soon as I hear something. Considering how competitive the minivan market currently is, I suspect that Chrysler will continue the support on their vans.

Did the Volkswagon $750 dealer rebate get renewed?
Would this apply to a new 97 VW Golf? Invoice price adds up to only $300 lower than a 98 Golf with the same kind of equipment. What kind of discount for old model years is reasonable? Any news on the 99 Golf intro?

    Car Man,

As yet, Edmund's has not updated the REBATE page. Do you have latest incentives (after 4/2/98) offered by Ford, specifically the 98 Windstar?
  • tkinpatkinpa Member Posts: 19
    car_man,

Did Toyota extend incentives on the Tacoma Xcab 4x4? In Nissan's Frontier listing I thought I saw
$1000 to customer and $1000 to dealer. Is this right? Thanks for the help.

Dear Car Man, Like spa #285 I am interested especially in Ford's Rebates. I know that their new incentives began April 3rd, but I haven't heard a thing. I would like to know if Ford is offering any kind of incentive or rebate (or low financing) on the 1998 F-150's. I ordered one (XLT, 4WD, SuperCab, Long Bed) at the beginning of March, and expect it to arrive in the next few weeks. Can't Wait! Thanks.

Thanks for the information relating to Taurus/Sable rebates and finance incentives. Very helpful -- planning to make a purchase this week-end.

I am looking at a car which has a $750 customer rebate from the manufacturer. I also would like to take advantage of GMAC's 1.9% financing incentive. A dealer has told me that I can't have both. I thought that financing rebates/incentives and manufacturer rebates were two separate things. Is the manufacturer rebate independent of the financing package or not?
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Ford is presently offering $500 consumer cash or 5.9% financing 12 - 48 months and 7.9% for 60 months on the Mercury Grand Marquis, Robert.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Sal the Edmund's Incentives Page should be updated by late tomorrow or Thursday. In answer to your question Ford is currently offering $1,500 consumer cash or 1.9% financing for 36 months, 2.9% financing for 48 months, & 4.9% financing for 60 months.

Chandru, Nissan's support on the '98 Maxima has increased. This month Nissan has $2,000 dealer cash on the '98 Maxima in their Northeast Region. There is $2,500 dealer cash on the '97 Maxima. This cash can not be used on leases. In addition to this dealer cash, in this region Nissan is running a dealer volume bonus program. Dealers will receive $300 - $500 additional per unit depending upon the number of Altimas that they sell. If you decide to lease instead of purchase, there is $950 lease cash on the '98 Maxima as well.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Tim, I haven't yet seen the new Toyota incentives. I will write myself a note to post the Tacoma incentives here as soon as I see them. The Nissan incentives that are listed on the Edmund's incentives page expired on March 31st. Off of the top of my head, I believe that Nissan is currently offering $1,750 dealer cash on 4x2 and Regular Cab '98 Frontier models and $1,250 on 4x4 and King Cab models in their NE region. Additionally, Nissan is running the volume bonus program that I mentioned previously. If the exact cash amounts aren't correct I'll let you know.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Hi Catscan! The F-150 is a great truck, I'm sure that you'll love it. To my knowledge, Ford is not currently offering any sort of cash incentives on this truck. However they do have a special financing program on F-Series Regular Cab models. You can get 4.9% financing for up to 48 months and 6.9% from 49 - 60 months on '98 F-Series Regular Cab models with a 4.2L engine. If you are considering a '97 model Ford is offering 1.9% financing on Regular Cab models for up to 36 months, 2.9% for 37 - 48, and 5.9% for 49 - 60 months. This program expires on June 2nd for the '97s and July 2nd for the '98s. Good luck with your new truck.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Keith, you don't specify which specific model you are talking about. Either way the dealer is probably telling you the truth. It is extremely expensive for GMAC to provide consumers with 1.9% financing. As a result they usually do not allow their special financing programs to be combined with their cash incentives.

Does anyone know the incentives or rebate on Jeep Cherokee after April 6, 1998? Thanks for your input.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Barry, Chevrolet is currently offering $750 consumer cash or special 1.9% financing on the '98 Metro. I have not yet seen the new Hyundai incentives yet. I do know that Hyundai Motor Finance has been having some financial problems recently and was forced to lay off a number of its employees. Perhaps this is why nothing really new is out yet. I would guess that Hyundai is probably still offering around $1,000 on its '98 models.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Robert, Chrysler did essentially extend its rebate on the Town and Country. Right now they are offering $750 on SWB and $1,000 on LWB models. If you want to finance you can get 1.9% financing 1 - 36 months, 3.9% 37 - 48 months, or 4.9% 49 - 60 months. The consumer cash can not be combined with the special finance rates. These incentives run through July 6th.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
In response to the question about new Volkswagen Golf incentives, Edmunds should be able to get a hold of them in a couple of days. Expect the amount to be around $750 again. I believe that the '99 Golf is due out in June.

Carman, Thanks four your info on the new Mustang incentives. Yesterday we purchased a new GT. We negotiated a pretty good deal so we opted for the special financing. They did offer us 5.9 for 60 months instead of 6.9. Maybe it is a north texas incentive, either way we took it and ran. Once again, Thanks for all of Edmunds help, I have recommended this site to all of my friends and relatives.....

I am wondering if the dealers are dealing on the Mazda MPV? I am looking to utilize the advertised rebate incentives, totaling around 3000.00 according to Edmunds list of rebates. Will Mazda deal any more than that? What is a fair price on a 2WD LX 98 or 97?

How is a car determined to be compact or midsize?
We are looking at the chyrsler cirrus but it is considered to be a compact car. It has almost the same dimensions as some midsize cars and is bigger than a lot of compacts.

can someone please tell me the current custumer and dealer incentives for a nissan maxima in washington or oregon. the edmonds guide says $ 1500 custumer rebate expired 3-31. one dealer i've talked with says that rebate is a dealer incentive not a buyer incentive. what

Hello, I do not know if this is the right forum for this question, and I do apologize in advance if it is not.

I have a 1992 Subaru SVX. It has approximately 83,000 miles on it. ( I bought it in 1993 brand new). The transmission failed and the dealer has quoted a price of 2,962.63 to fix it with a remanufactured transmission. The remanufactured transmission has a 12 month or 12000 mile warranty.

I know that the SVX had a lot of problems with the transmission.

My question is, do you know of any manufacture rebates, and/or discounts available for the replacement of an SVX transmission?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I am located in Northern California, in the San Francisco bay area. email dmoxy@tdl.com

NurseMBH, I definitely think that you should be able to get the Mazda MPV for more than $3,000 off of the vehicle's MSRP. The $3,000 for the incentive is being provided entirely by the manufacturer, Mazda. None of this amount comes out of the dealer's pocket. If the dealer sells you the van at only $3,000 off, he is making the same amount of money as if he sold it to you at full MSRP. So there should still be a lot of room for negotiation.

Jennifer, this is a very good question. The classification of some cars is even a mystery to people who work in the automotive industry. One major reason why cars are classified is so that they can be placed in what industry analysts call "segments." Many analysts try to look at these segments and see trends in the overall automotive industry. The companies that publish the automotive sales figures, like Wards, Autodata Corporation, and AutoFacts, are the ones who decide what segment these cars get placed in. Wards has been reporting sales data for the longest period of time and created the basis for what the segments have become today. Sometimes I question why they placed a certain car in the segment that they did.

Tom, I mentioned previously that Nissan is offering $2,000 dealer cash on the '98 Maxima in its NE region. This program runs through the end of April. I bet that the program is pretty similar in the Washington / Oregon region. Nissan had a terrible sales month in February and they increased many of their rebates. I probably will not be able to find out exactly what the rebate is in your region for about a week or two. If you'd like check back with me then and I should be able to be more specific.

Hey Car Man, Thanks for the info on the F-150 Regular Cab..., but I was wondering if Ford is offering a similar financing rate on the '98 F-150 SuperCab as they are for the Expedition. I hear that they offer 1.9% - 2.9% and would love to cash in when my '98 F-150 SuperCab XLT 4wd is delivered next week. Thanks again!!!

    Dear dmoxy,

You might check the following website:

    http://www.smogcheck.ca.gov/

and click on the section on Consumer Protection Operations.

They may have infor and advice on hidden or extended warranties. Otherwise, your only other option would be a used transmission. There are quite a few operations now in the U.S. that ship low mileage engines and transmission from Japan to the U.S. I know there's one in Berkeley, Calif. so you might check the yellow pages there...can't quite remember the name. If you can't find it, e-mail me at

One dealer here in San Antonio (BlueBonnet)is advertising a $1950 rebate on the 1998 Ford Mustang. It is a Base Model (MSRP $16595) They are also offering a dealer discount of $2700. Everyone else is advertising $750 rebate. Any ideas what this is?

Dear Car man, we're ordering a Cadillac Deville Concours this next week that may not be in before the end of April. I know, thanks to you, that the Dealer incentive for April is $1,500, and have also found out there is now a GM rebate of $1,000 good through 6/30. Is there any pattern in dealer incentives? Do they tend to lessen or increase as the year goes along? Is there any way to make a reasonable guess for May in case my car can't arrive before May? Thanks so much,
    =(;<</A>>)) Phil

    Dear JJWilliams,

Here's a link to the Subaru new car prices provided by Edmunds'....

if that shouldn't work, just go to the toolbar on your left and click on
    , then to

Dear cgking...do you mean a $1,950 and a $2,700 rebate on the same base Mustang? Doesn't seem possible!

OK, here are the Jeep Cherokee incentives, linshi. Chrysler is offering $500 dealer cash on '98 Jeep Cherokee models. There is also $1,000 consumer lease cash on Cherokee SE & Sport, & $250 consumer lease cash on Classic & Limited.
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Sal, there is currently $1,000 consumer cash on the 1998 Dodge Caravan. If you choose to finance the car through Chrysler you can use their special finance rates instead of this cash. The rates are: 1.9% for 1 - 36 months, 3.9% 37 - 48 months, and 4.9% 49 - 60 months. I'm not sure if Chrysler is providing any dealer cash on the Grand Caravan. If they are I'll let you know in this conference tomorrow.
