So you're saying that there have been substantial numbers of the 2002 Lexus IS300 sold? I find that hard to believe. There are several cars that have a 2002 TMV listed. Just tell us you're busy trying to catch up and we'll cut you some slack. It took forever just to get the 2002 VW info on Edmunds.
Thanks for the update, kcram. I'll keep checking over time to see when the TMV pricing will become available. I'm sure it will be there by the time I might need it (next year).
Some of the 2002 models that are listed have either been introduced early, and/or are produced in such limited numbers that a TMV can be more fairly generated. When a car first hits the showrooms, it's impossible to determine what it's selling for right away, and with the events of last month, those values may be skewed if generated solely on recent sales.
As far as being behind, I can't answer that. Town Hall and Data Services (where pricing and TMV are generated) are separate departments in the company.
I am in westchester NY area Any1 give me an idea what to expect to pay? Are they Dealing, or looking to get invoice. I want vehicle with no options(actually I want ALL options but am not RICH).
Can anyone comment if $21,550 (includes all fees) + tax and tags is good price for 2002 GLS 1.8T wagon with standard trans no options in mid-eastern PA area. Need your thoughts ASAP. Thanks!!
Thanks a lot for stepping in, raybear. I'll check it out. Offer accepted today. First choice color combo not available, but second is, which is just fine! Am excited about joining the VW experience!
Just FYI, I bought a 2001.5 GLX (white color) here at San Jose (N. California) for $29000 OUT OF DOOR. The car has 70 miles on it but looks like new. I think this $4000 off MSRP is a steal. What do you think?
2002 glx 4Mo 30K...... 29k doesn't sound so hot for a 2001. its already 2000 less to resell even if it has less miles as its a 2001! Is it 4Mo? if not get an '02 or bid the guy 27K, he'll probably sell. Good luck
I just checked CarDeals. They don't show anything. The deals may have dried up. vwguild would know if there are any deals left, but franky at invoice there may not be much left to argue. How would you feel if someone else bought the car while you fiddled?
Question #1: I found a new 01.5 Passat GLX with 4Motion that has 5,000 dealer miles on it. The dealer is willing to sell it for $27,625...sounds like a good deal to me, but what do you guys think? That's probably a couple grand less than an '02, but it has 5,000 miles, no CD, and a shorter bumper to bumper warranty (although it has a longer warranty on the powertrain).
Question #2: How does this car compare to the 02 Audi A4 1.8T? It's got fewer options, and a smaller engine but has anyone driven both?
DaBronx -- Is the car you bought a manual transmission? What should I expect in pricing on a 1.8T manual? TMV is about $850 over invoice. Is that about right?
Are the 2002 Passat GLS 4Motion's available? My dealer said very few have been made so they are almost impossible to find and that ordering one would take 4-5 months. Any truth to this or is he just trying to get me to buy a GLX? Thanks!
A new AM/FM/CASS/CD is Standard on all German built VWs that were produced after week 32 of this year...(August 12, 2001)
The information on the 4MO issue is half right... They are very rare, but I can assure you that they can be ordered...And the order time is no where near 4-5 Months...Typical build times for a specific car are 75-90 days, and that is to Calif. where there is a 28 day trip across the pond and around the bend...
Can you provide some info on what VW credit did on money factors as of 11/1. Specifically, I am looking to lease a 02 GLX and am curious what this month's mf will be. thanks.
That's good news. The lease money factor on the Passat is pretty good. May be good enough to get me to finally put to an end two months worth of tire kicking.
One dealership in my area is advertising 4K off of MSRP for all Passats. (There were discounts last month on 4Motions everywhere, it seemed.) Can anyone enlighten me on what's new? There must be dealer cash or trunk money or whatever as of 11/1. I'd love to get a couple of dealers to fight for my business.
Also, what ARE Eurovans going for these days? Will a subvented lease mean dealer cash on purchases? thanks in advance
then go for it by all means. the car is the same, but the warranty is less. for 4k off MSRP, you can buy an extended warranty and still save big. or just grind 'em until they throw in the extended warranty with the deal.
I bought the ONLY remaining non-4MOTION 2001.5 Passat sedan that I could find, which is a Mojave Beige V6 GLS automatic with Monsoon and Winter, no luxury or leather, for 4K below MSRP, which is 22,525. Couldn't get extended warranty thrown in, but got it down to 1095 (from 1495) in the finance office. Also they put a clear bra, a pinstripe (classy, actually) and a handsome tint on all their cars, so had to pay for that too, although not their prices (they wanted 399 for pinstripe, 499 for tint and 299 for bra).
Anyway, those of you looking for 2001.5 4MOTIONS at 4K off MSRP, come to Denver, there are many! Mountain States has about 8 as does McDonald Automotive Group. Colors seem to be Candy White, Black, good ol' Mojave Beige (which, I must say, is growing on me), and I saw one dark blue and Colorado red.
I'm addicted to your site and your reviews. They are on the mark. With your info., esp. the technique of blast faxing, I got a written offer from McKenna VW for $28,000 for a 2001.5 Passat GLX 4Motion. It was $1,000 less than any other dealer I had contacted by phone. We literally went there, test drove it, and did the paperwork. No games trying to bump us up because the offer was in writing.
A local dealer is offering this price for: Fresco Green or Silverstone Grey (beige or grey interior)with luxury pkg, monsoon, homelink, no leather. Is this a decent price?
I'm considering buying 2002 Passat 1.8T, manual, w/leather & monsoon..finally going to a dealer to test drive and see the colors. Closes dealer only seems to have beige, silver, and grey...but I'm thinking ink blue/beige leather or dark green/beige leather. Ink Blue, as well as the 5-speed manual seems especially difficult to find according to the vw sites local S. Florida inventory. Anyone having the same trouble?
Any personal experiences with buying through carsdirect.com...better deal than what the dealer will do directly?
I'd say that most any dealer will match their pricing,as long as you let them know that you'll buy if they meet it.
As far as colors go... Dark colors are not popular as a rule in FLorida (Im in Orlando and have a place in Aventura) Silver, Beige, White..etc. They all sell better and have better resale.
If you need to go dark, the Blue will be easier to resell/worth more $$ in the future than the green if Ihad to guess. Right now Blue beats Green.
Dealers? Who's that one in FtLauderdale with the German name... Gunther. Yeah.. Gunther seems to be the one todeal with down there. Kinda like Royal up here.
I'm new here. My wife is looking for a new VW. The largest VW dealer in Fairfax, Virginia asks for $24,945+Tag+Delivery+Tax for the above sedan. I went there on Monday and yesterday, I found something strange. The strange thing is the car I saw on Monday has mileage 505 and a sale person showed me that too. However yesterday I saw it have 165 mile. Therefore, the dealer may have severals in stock. I'm asking for a couple hundred dollar, say $500 less than that sticker price.
I have emailed and gone to several local dealers, and got a feeling that the overall price for any 2001 VW sedan must be at least couple of hundred dollars less than Edmund's True Market Value which is below its invoice. Even for 2002 VW sedans, $2000 less than the MSRP is normal here. My point is how low it can be for buying the above car. Is there any buyer at Greater DC area who has got true market value deal? Thanks for going to be be my market indicator. It's not necessary for the same deal we're looking for, any information on your excellent deal for 2001 VW New Passat V6 or Jetta V6 or 4Motion is welcome.
Sounds about right, though you may have to shop around a bit. Remember there are extra fees the dealers pay, not just what you'll find here at Edmunds.
In the market for a new car and love the 02 Passat. Went to a VW Dealer to discuss pricing and wanted to negotiate from the dealer's actual cost (invoice-2% of msrp dealer holdback). The salesman said there was no holdback, then wanted me to pay 5% over invoice (26114 + 5% = 27419). True or False, is there a 2% VW holdback and is 27419 a good price on a 5speed Passat GLX? Edmunds says there is. Anyone else experience this?
Base Price = $26,114.00 Port Prep = $25.00 FPIR = $92.00 Destination = $550.00
Holdback is actually 3% minus Destination...
Holdback is generally not a negotiating point, unless the dealership has so many DOG CARS; they cannot get out from under it all...They are over- whelmed with Distress Merchandise, which is not the case with the Passat GLX in any configuration.
If you go to the home page here you will be able to get Edmund's perspective and if you go to www.vwvortex.com and click on *Forums* and then *Volkswagen* and then "Passat B5" you will find a *thread* titled *Is This a Good Deal?*. There you will find a reasonably succinct definition of what *Holdback* is, and the way in which it is dealt with as an accounting entry.

I should start by saying I've never purchased a car. I'm on my 3rd lease. I have made the decision to buy. I currently lease a 99 (old body) vw jetta. My lease doesn't run out until October 2002, but I only have 2,000 miles left and with my job i'll be lucky if that gets me to the middle of December 2001.
My questions: I want to buy a Passatt, manual transmission. I don't need any extras. Will VW make me finish my lease payments on my Jetta? They are only $255 and I have 10 left. I know if I go to another car maker they have offered to pay off my lease, buy I really want a VW.
and find out your payoff amount, then get an estimate on your current's car value (check out TMV and KBB). If your payoff is around the trade in value, it is your lucky day. But with all those miles, you're more likely "buried" (upside down), and will have to pay the difference to the dealer between what your car is worth and what the payoff amount is.
has a payoff amount, just like a financed car. the term "lease payoff" refers to the cost of buying out the lease today, which means you now own the car. any dealership will do this, just like with a financed car. there really isn't any difference between the two.
when you owe more than what the dealer is willing to pay, you are upside down, and the leftover debt from the previous lease/finance is rolled over into the new lease/purchase.
Hi everyone. I'm new and have been reading this forum regularly. I'm about to pull the trigger on a 1.8 Tip, luxury, leather, monsoon, Silverstone in So. Calif. I was quoted $500 over invoice, but they won't budge on $200+ advertising fee and $90+ "flooring" fee? Is this what everybody else had to pay? Thanks!
That's right, those fees are real. I've seen better than $500 over, I just got one for $200 over in the Bay Area, of all places! Of course, that is $200 over the actual invoice, not the number you'd find at Edmunds or most internet sites.
