Yeah I live just north of Jefferson City so St Louis isn't that far for me. I grew up in KC so I'm much more familiar with it than I am STL. I've been to STL for a couple of Iron Maiden concerts in the past few years but that's about it LOL.

OK, so I'm out driving around today and cruise by the local Subaru dealer. What do I see on their used lot? A Lincoln Blackwood! Two questions:

1) Why on earth would a Subi dealer have a Blackwood on their lot? I can't imagine someone trading it in so they must have bought it at auction, right?

2) Speaking of auctions, what are those bad boys doing in the lanes? I read in Automotive News that some Lincoln dealers were selling them new for $39-40K, even one dealer was selling Blackwoods at sticker and giving a free Cougar with every purchase. Is anyone actually buying those things at auction or do they just sit there, trying to sell?

Having said that I'd love one if I could get it for $20-25K but beyond that I'll take an F150 Lariat Supercrew - basically the same truck. How much of a price diff is there between a used Blackwood and a comparable used F150 Lariat? Sticker on '03 Lariat Supercrews is $30-34K depending on goodies.

Just thought it was kinda odd........

Wondering what a 2001 Passat GLS, black, with 16,700 miles is worth in Orlando? Don't know if it has leather or a slider. Dealer is asking $16,900. Also, what can I get in a trade for my '92 Maxima SE, knee deep, slider, cloth, CD player, 109K, plenty of kid produced knicks outside, relatively clean on the inside?

my father in law is looking at cleaning out the garage and doing a 2 for one (although he should probably do a 2 for zero, but he doesn't drive much at least).

Anyway, what would trade/private #s be (in the Albany NY area) for:

1993 Caddy Sedan deVille, sort of dark silver/gray 2-tone, very clean in/out (never hit), tan leather, no slider, wire wheels of some sort and only 33K on the clock.

1991 Olds '88, white/red cloth (I think, sure its cloth), looked clean enough, starting to show its age mechanically, 66K on this one.

What say the great guru? He will probably end up getting an Impala or something similar.

...... Let's see here , it's an 94, it's got 100k, it's a handshaker, and you live by Sacramento .. Left Coasters live in a different world, let alone a different part of the country .l.o.l.

If -- this one is clean, deep in the tire dept, little or few kisses, no-paintwork and lookin' 99, then on a trade it might see $4/$4,5ish (depending on the dealer) .. these are still popular, so on the retail side $6,900 is a fair asking price and $5,9/$6,5 makes it go bye bye ...

....... I gotta say, $24,500 seems a little light, even $25,5 could work .. I think it's best to hit some other dealers in that St Louie area ..

          Honda dealers especially are a little weird, as a rule they really don't know what particular vehicles are worth, they kinda live in their own little world. I just got call from a Honda dealer on Friday afternoon, and he wanted to know what a 01 740iL was worth ..

       I asked him why he didn't want it, he responded with "hey, I could sell 10 Civics waiting for that dog to sell" -- oooookay, I took it and it sold during the Super Bowl, so it kinda made my day considering my Raiders got whooped, but still, Tampa waited a looong time for this one ...

          Nope, these Blackwoods are certainly not burning down any buildings .. I know 7/8 Lincoln stores that would Love to see these go bye bye .. Yeow, $52 large ..?

          Right now, ones with 7/8k are doing around that $28ish figure at the block, so that should kinda give you an idea. What is a Sub dealer doing with a Blackwood ....? I dunno ....

With all those other choices out there, and contrary to what the "Audi loyal" among us say, avoid the A4/A6 at all costs, especially when there are so many other choices.

In my line of work, I see 4s and 6s all day for major issues - no need for the headache.

I'm swaying toward the Lincoln LS and Seville STS myself - will strike within 30 days or so.

Guess I was still in shock about the Bucs in the Super Bowl. The Passat is a 2001 ,1.8 T, black, cloth, with a handshaker, in Orlando. Miles are about 16K . Still don't know about the slider. It's an ad in the Sentinel, no photo. Dealer is asking $16.9. My '92 Maxima SE has 109K, auto, slider, knee deep, 109K, CD, interior okay, paint has knicks and is peeling off the bumpers. Wondering what a good offer would be on a trade. Thanks for all your help. I have learned a lot on this board.

        It "sounds" like you may have a few little lottery tickets stashed away here .. let's say the Caddy is nice, it's needs a detail and a little this and a little that, same for the 88 .. on the trade side, you might be seeing "around" $2,5ish .. the Olds, maybe around $1,5ish ..

        The real deal here is: Yep, you guessed it, down the road to Retailville .. if they need a little service - do it, needs a battery, get em', if it needs tires then off to Sears, and drop the $$ on a great detail on both. Lotsa folks lookin' for nice, clean, no rust low milers like these ~~~

      The Caddy and the Olds should be dropped in the paper with a Big Fat daddy ad .. Loooooow miles, etc, etc, etc, -- the Caddy at $5,900 and say goodbye at $4,5/$5,5 .. the Olds, at $3,900 and spank it on the butt at $2,9/$3,5 ...

           Soooo, how about those Bucs ....

Still looking at upgrades and/or toys, and saw this at a local lot (actually saw an ad, not the car):

1996 Mustang GT convertible, dark color (might be black), loaded up w/leather, power everything, etc. 5 speed (of course). 105,000 big clicks on this puppy, in convertible-unfriendly frigid NJ. Asking $8,995, but how big a wad of cash do you think will cut it from the herd?

but the 105,000 miles kills it and takes it out of "retail contention". There's nothing wrong with a 105,000 mile Mustang (mine has 185,000) and given the year, the miles are great.

I wouldn't go a penny over $6,000 - maybe start at $5,500. The '94-98 GTs are plentiful, so don't cry if you miss this one.

1999 Contour, Silver, V6 SE Edition, 29,000 miles. ABS, PW/PB/PS/AC/AM-FM-Cass/Cruise/Alloy Wheels/Spoiler/Leather Steering Wheel & Shifter/light "titanium" cloth interior.

Scratch (keyed) alongside driver door, shopping cart crease above front left door, a few other minor kisses from parking in the city and malls.

My brother has a 1998 Contour, same as above except no spoiler, no alloy wheels, and no leather anywhere, except maybe a dropped Big Mac... He has his in No Sale Green and with 82,000 miles.

Need a price to sell my car; it's a '99 Honda Civic DX Hatch ,silver,61000 miles,5spd, a/c, honda am/fm stereo-no mods.

A few stone chips in front facia from highway driving, excellent tires(Pirelli P400's). Interior is perfect; exterior needs a cleaning-live in central New Jersey. Up to date on servicing. A Chevy mechanic (where I bought my Cavalier from) is interested in it. His car has 400k on it.

Zue is on this one, double nickels would do it - and $6 would be the ETW if it's a "baby doll" ..

....... Two isty, bitsy things wrong with this one, it's a handshaker and it's black .. the dealer is probably paying the Seminole Indians to do dances to keep the cold snap going .l.o.l.

            Might, maybe, could have $13 in it .. figure a this and a that, $13,5 at the table .. me personally, I wouldn't pay a dime over $15/$15,5 for it .. they are plentiful, and this one has 2 marks against it, but the miles are fine ..

        On the Maxima, you might be seeing $2,5, might get real lucky and see $3,0 .. But, this one on the street you could ask $4,9 and let it go for $4,5 or so ....

..... Sounds like a pretty nice little ride, all things considered. The miles are Looow, it's a 24 V6 and it's got some toys .. if it's all cleaned up when the dealer see's it, you should be seeing $5,0 on trade .. a nice vehicle for Retail Rd - $7,9 on the paper and $6,5/$7,0 sends it south ..

          Now your buddy has some problems, 82k is the biggest .. he might see $3ish..

2000 Camry LE 4cyl Auto 42,000 miles, alloy wheels, Power driver's seat, ABS, cassette/CD white grey interior, remote keyless entry, tires have about 10K on them. No french fries.
Very clean car, factory floor mats,what else?
Feels, drives and looks great.... Arizona
What should I expect trade in and Private party? Is the mileage considered "normal" for this model year car? Did I do OK? or to my room? Can't think of anything else to add.

Terry, your numbers for the Passat were about what I was expecting, but the numbers for my '92 Maxima (4.5K on the street) seem much higher than I am seeing on the sites, this one included. Are these decade-old Maxima SEs hot now?

Also, I've started a discussion on best bang for the buck among midsize sedans, and I'd love your opinion.

ok, here's the rig.
'98 pathfinder LE. 4x4. 72k miles (i know, wife drives a lot for work, at least we get compensated for the work miles). silver with grey leather. loaded. moonroof. bose. bun warmers. new brakes (rotors,pads,etc) a month ago. tires are 50-60%. decent shape. no accidents or paintwork, a couple door dings and a small scratch on driver rear door (shows up nicely with the silver

), no fry invasions on the inside, all in all pretty clean vehicle. what can i expect on trade and retail.

          Wow ..... never seen one yet .. cloth interior in a IS300 ..? hmmm, wow, I bet thats a big seller .. yawn .. and it's a handshaker to boot, golly ghee, the plot thickens .. next, you will be telling me it only has a cassette and no slider -- and Bang, no slider ..? -- who ordered this ..?         The loaded up, toyed up ones with auto, with the same miles are barely breaking $25 and doing $29 or mucho less on the retail side .. $24,3 .... ? Looking to sell a fully loaded 2000 Toyota Camry XLE V6, has 27k miles. Dark Gray in color (similar to black); Leather seats; Gray interior; Power driver and passengers seats, power steering, sun roof/moon roof, ABS, keyless entry,premium sound, Alloy wheels. Couple of paint jobs, perfectly done. Routine maintenance, nothing else has been changed. How much do you think I will get in trade-in/private ? Chicago.

I know this is about value, but that's the way I'd want my IS300. Keep all of them heavy non-performance parts off there.

And the slider reduces body stiffness.

If only I were closer to paying off wifey's van...

Then that IS300 would be mine at 25K or even 25K plus what his sales tax rate is to take the sting outta not trading it.

I know, I know, I'm wierd.

How 'bout a 95 Contour GL with power nothing, 4 popper, handshaker, and 80K miles. It's as white as snow.

Dealer in the Chicago area has it listed for $24xx and one of my CEGers looked at it and it looks and drives pretty good.

I'm really growing tired of the Buick, but it's not my turn to get a "new" car so...

What do ya think?

What's some negative stuff .. it's no-sale green, lotsa miles, a little meteorite hit on the fender and it barks at oncoming traffic .. (great description though, thanks) .. on the trade side, it "sounds" like a $6,0 vehicle, I'm not getting any warm and fuzzy vibes out of this one .. maybe a detail, service check and some rubber, then $8,9 in the paper and let one of the great actors in the Broadway show "Chicago" grab it for $7,5/$8,5 ..?

Here's one I need to know about: 1994 Acura Legend L with 125K miles. White, tan leather inside, auto, excellent shape inside and out. I got stuck with this while trying to hook up a coworker and my uncle. Never again. I don't want to keep it, so I'm going to trade it for something new. Honestly, it looks perfect and runs well - dealer maintained, no surprises that I know of. But those miles.... What should I expect for trade-in? (Anyone wanna buy it?)

Well, there were couple of scratches in the car from parking.. Part and parcel of city life. Body color had come off from those places and so the paint job.

I forgot one thing.. The car has in-dash 6 CD player along with AM/FM/Cassette.
