Make sure ya test drive it tho.... those wheels can bend easily if it lives in potholeville.
Hmm, I think it's a $12-13K car wholesale.. closer to the $12K range wholesale since it;s a stick...Thats what I would assume they have in it... around $12K or so...
Tell em $14K and they have a deal... go to $14,750 if ya have to... but also, they may be a bit greedy if they know what they have (I doubt a Dodge dealer will). Those are very very very very very rare....
Bill
If it helps.... I used to see at the Volvo Auctions... perhaps 1 every 3 months. Maybe one 96 Turbo out of 50-100 is a stick...
If I were you.. I'd see if I could swing it to be truthful. They are VERY uncommon.

On the E320 wagons. I went and looked at a 95 today at some shady local independant dealer:) These things are built like tanks! Also if you take out the 3rd seat and fold down the rears it has as much room as a giant SUV. But the 98's are probably pushing my budget although I found the later model more comfortable to sit in.
I may go look at a 95 that a local MB dealer has. It's smoke silver with parchment (ugh) MB Tex interior (love the MB Tex though, tough stuff). Anyway it has 51k on the clock and it's starmark certified with a warranty. They want an outrageous price ($31,900) for it but I felt her out on the phone a little bit and I'm sure it can be had for less (prob 27k range). To me it's still a bit much for a 95 but maybe at 25k I'd look at it hard.
Decisions, decisions. I do really like the new Passat and it's much more sporty but I'm not sure how it will last over the years. The MB is built like a tank (and sort of drives like it), has more utility and I imagine with proper maintenance will last quite a while.
In the end though I'll probably take the Passat if it would only get here!
Dave
I dunno. I truthfully never pay attention to what cost is on a warranty as we have fixed, state-set margins on warranties down here in FL. Figure they usually mark em up 50% or so as a rough guideline.
So which one ya gonna get??
Bill
And.. I live in Orlando too! When we gonna go grab a Beer??
Bill
God I shouldnt say this and if ya go in there and tell em it'll piss them off.. but that car sold for $22,500 at auction in LA about 2 weeks ago..
Now before you get all outta whack.. Figure that Starmark warranty costs em about $900 or so. Then there's a $2-300 auction fee... Then since they bought the car in LA hauling it back to the bay area is another $2-300.. then you have mechanical inspections.. recon work.. etc...
That being said, the 86-95 E-Class is, In My Not-So Humble opion, the best car that company ever made.
And it is in a very good color.
Bill
Glad I could be of help!
And, again, anytime you need advice.. I'm happy to help!

I have $600 damage to front fascia and hood. happened 3 years ago and never fixed it since it is really a minor (but noticeable) blemish and doesn't affect driveability. Do I need to fix that or it isn't worth it?
(This is not a trade in candidate) Thanks.
Even MB enthusiasts seem to consider the earlier E class among the best cars they've made. I understand the main problem areas are the climate control system and that the Becker radios were crappy.
Buying a new car seems easier to me as I can pretty easily find out what the local "market" pricing is in relation to invoice or MSRP. I don't have much if any experience with used cars and it's hard for me to know what the "market" price is or how much room there is to negotiate when looking at ads. I see a lot of used cars advertised with rediculous prices, sometimes as much or more than I can buy a new one. The best I can seem to do is use sites like Edmonds.
Anyway I really appreciate your informative posts here. I'll probably go look at the car on Saturday and take a decent test drive then go from there.
However, if you are going to sell it yourself, I'd fix the damage.. It's not a matter of "is it worth it?" but it may be tough to sell with visible damage...
Bill
You're right, it is tough to know as much on used cars as it is on new cars. But the key is to get an idea of what the market is and go from there. Also, condition is important, and not getting gouged is important too.
That being said, the 94+ MB's have a much improved stereo
Let me know how it goes!
Bill
Recently a 45K mile one sold for $11,200 at Auction in PA and a Silver one with 59K miles did $9,500...
Based on that... Where would you peg a 71K mile one? $8,500 is, IMO, all the money.
Again, I dont want it to seem like I'm lowballing you... But it is a high mile car. If ones with 40-50K are doing $11K or so... And ones with 60K or so on them are doing $9-10K...
Try kbb using "fair" or even "good" as a classification, it ought to put you closer....
Bill
That's why, I have been taking advance of all the big Auctions from Philly (Harrisburg ..the big Manheim)...and back, a couple of day's of the week ---- It keep's me busy.... and I can buy and ship...or just buy for all the people that I know ..or.. my family know's ......So, it's been fun....When I come back ..I will be more than happy to get together.....actually if you get some time ---- you should check out this Manheim--- The largest --- and the craziest --- 8500 + domestic's will run tommorow - 29 lanes -- thank goodness for a Palm Pilot..l...o..l.......and on thurday's 3500 + import's run.......You would enjoy it....
Terry.
That $25,000 $28,000 figure is ...the real world... -- --- $31,000 is just a little tooooo high....
Terry.
My experience with Volvo was as ugly as many have had with Chrysler built (and now DC) minivans. Based on my experience and the experiences of those with bad DC minivans, I would NEVER buy another Volvo.
However, as with DC perhaps Volvo has improved the quality to where they are each comparable with the others.
To answer Bill's question as to what am I gonna get-I just don't know. Maybe another Sequoia (j/k)to replace the one my wife stole. Probably something a little more practical maybe a Infinity I30 or.... I just don't know! Advice is always welcome-I will probably buy used
one more time THANKS!
There is a bunch around.....and 4 wheel season is just about over....the biggest reason is that GM, has a lot of dealer cash and rebate's on the new ones.....
This might, give you at least some idea...
Terry.
But, over the years -- Volvo has done a wonderful job...to "create" their own vehicles...not copy anybody's --- their safety record, make the guy's at MB BMW squeek every day....I drive them ...I like them ---- I don't sell them ....But, I do endorse them....
Terry.
And good luck with it. Let us know how you make out!
Bill
I posted my cell phone #.. write it down and give me a holler when you get back into town!
Also... I've bought at Manheim in the winter.. I dont recall having fun doing it either!
I'll stay here with the palm trees thank you
Bill
I dont know the first damn thing about Pickups... but.. I didnt see a listing for an LT.
Or was that a Chevy S10 Blazer??
Bill
And I have fun with this usually
Bill
I dunno, I've always considered them quirky, but I really think they are great cars. Remember I have an S80! Although Mom is driving it...
And, you've got a bulletproof DC Minivan and I've gotten 121K Miles out of a Jaguar with only 3 glitches. 2 super minor and 1 minor...
Go figure, huh?
Bill
Hmm... I30s are a good buy used... but what's your budget and what do you like?
S70 GLT is a nice buy used... since we're talking Volvos.
Bill

Leo
and in the paper for 18K with higher miles
Was only offered 6ooo for my 96 Deville
on trade for a 2001 deville. Looks like
my woman will drive it till the wheels
fall off.......Geo
As I read in CR and other TH forums, it has occured to me that I am VERY lucky to get a zero problem Grand Caravan...and was probably unlucky with the bad experience with Volvo.
I had heard old wives tales that Jaguar were finicky, high strung...sort of like a prize race horse and needed lots of tender, loving care. That said, everyone who drove one absolutely loved the Jaguar and said the extra attention was well worth the effort.
All I can say is that I'm sure Bill and Terry are more realistic in their pricing. Reason being that Accords are a dime a dozen. Its not that its not a good car or worth the money, but it suffers from another major factor when buying a car. There are just so many of them. The more there are, obviously, the more competitive the pricing can be. When I can walk onto just about any dealer's lot and find an Accord, it doesn't give the dealer much justification to put a high price on it.
Like I said, just my opinion. As a buyer, I wouldn't pay a premium price for such a common car. Sorry.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
Had a conversation with a pal about Accords. He's looking for a used one and is cross-eyed since there are so many around. I told him to look for one that's been taken care of, receipts and all, since my thought is that many Accord buyers are not car lovers or likers and treat them like refrigerators........ just another appliance. There's just no reason to buy a beater. And everyone selling a used one wants max $$ for them. It's crazy. I'm telling him to buy new to avoid all the BS. We'll see.
Can you give me a ballpark number for this one:
1997 Mazda 626 LX-V6, "putrid" green, light tan cloth interior, "meat-cleaver" (5-spd), 50k miles, new tires, in "good" condition (i.e., no paintwork, no damage, other than a door ding or two)
Northern Virginia area....
For a change, I think I'll be pleasantly surprised, because my guesstimate for this car is quite low....
Thanks!!!
can you tell me what the value of my 4runner is? It is a 98, 4wd, Brown, has sunroof, locking rear diff, fog lamps, trailer hitch package, cd player, lojack system. It is in very good condition, with some usual dings, and has about 29000 on it.
It is coming of lease soon and I am thinking of buying it. The numbers I checked on edmunds are actually more the my buy back.
Thanks
Nick
So, I'm sure...I will be there about 4 more times...
Terry.
OK then....great car's ...but the 5 speed hurt's it..the 6 cylinder is great..and the mileage is a tinge on the high side. ...because the color is not bad- I remember it quit well -- (I'm a Mazda dealer) --- north or south...( no - abs..? and, I'm assuming it has wheels)
Well ....my Mazda maniac.....I'm thinkin'.....$6,000 to $6,500....
Terry.
