...... The Galants haven't been doing much, especially this one with 50k+ .. the V6 ES will help it bunches .. on a trade, it might be worth the low $8's ..

The Ody's still do a little money, so figure the miles will save this one .. probably has $26,0 in it, should be able to buy it for $28ish ..

                     Terry.

...... Right color, miles are a little tall, might be coming out of warranty .. "might" have $11 and some change in it, so figure $14ish would be all of it ...

I've seen such a wide variability in value, so here goes for the experts:

    1997 Infiniti I30
    95K miles
    Beige
Moonroof, leather, I think it has all options
Good mechanical condition, seats show wear

This car is definitely being sold within the week, but I don't want to expect an unreasonable amount for it. Thanks!

    Hi Terry,
I have been reading your posts here for a few months now, it's been informative as well as entertaining.

Looking for a little help here. I am getting a hand-me-down pop-up camping trailer and looking for something to tow it with.

1998 Ford Explorer 2 Dr. Not sure about trim level. White, ABS, AC, automatic, 2WD, 98365 miles, 4.0 V6 (probably OHV not the better SOHC), power windows and locks. Located in Sacramento, California. I have not seen the car, so let's just say it's average to good condition.

This is an alleged "Easter special" at $7988. I didn't bother with the books and came straight here =)

Thank you very much in advance. I hope I didn't forget anything or I'll have to go to my room.
    Paul

PS: This is at a Toyota dealership. I have not deal with any private mechanics. Is it possible for me to drive it to a Ford and ask them to check it out thoroughly (I'll pay for the inspection)?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ........ 2WD .. ok, got that part ..

                Limited ..? EB ....?

             XLT .....? Sport ...?

Off with your head .. then off to your room .................... it's kinda like describing a house ~ it's a 2 bedroom house .. is it a 4,100 sq ft 2 bedroom home or a 1,400 sq ft 2 bedroom home ... ?

No tickey ~~ No washey ....

    ...... Ok we have a 97 I30 (not a T right .?)

Good color, seats are ho-hum, miles are waaay tall .. if the service is up to date, we have some strong rubber, no-paint, no I ran over my neighbors tractor by mistake, cold air, runs and looks strong, drives like 40k .. then trade side, the high $4's, low $5's if it needs -0- --- on the retail side, maybe the high $7's ...

                I hope this helps .....

Thanks Terry! I appreciate the help on the Jetta.
  • niteswmer2niteswmer2 Member Posts: 20
Hi Terry. I'm looking to either sell or trade in my VW Jetta (need a bigger car now that I've got the 2nd kid).

Details: Vdub Jetta, 1.8T, 27,400 miles, light blue, auto, all options save for leather (i.e. pwr everything, heated seats, monsoon stereo with 6 disc cd-changer in trunk, etc). No dings, fries, or work done by Bob's paint and barbeque. Needs -0-. St. Louis area. What do you think for trade-in and retail. I love this car and need a "real-world" expectation to bring me down to earth a bit - you know how we love to exaggerate the value of cars we love.....

Any feedback on trade-in for a loaded, beautiful 2002 Saab 9-5 Arc at 11000 miles?

Any data or guesstimates on what would this car go for at a lease auction?

....... Great description .! ~~ These are nice little drivers, I bought a 01 for my nephew with the VR6 in white pearl, with the tan guts ..

The miles are ok, it's a good color, it has all the right options, leather would be nice -but, no visits to Bobs (I never saw blue ribs and chicken before) and it's an auto .. and one of my Aunts lives in Crestwood(?) .. on a trade, you should be seeing the high $12's, low $13's .. a little trip down Retail Rd, $15,9 in the paper and the first Tyson chicken salesman takes it back to his coop for $14,5/$15,5 ..

I hope this is good news ...

What is the trade-in value of a Silver 2002 Accord EX V6 sedan? It's completely stock with no options and it only has 4k miles. The interior is perfect and still smells new. On the exterior, there are no dings, rock chips or scratches. The only problem with this car is that it has been in a rear-end collision and the body shop only did a fair job. How much of a depreciation hit am I looking at? I imagine that a dealership wouldn't give me much for it since it's pretty obvious that it has been wrecked. The collision wasn't severe enough to be considered a major accident so it doesn't show up on Carfax. It's still not looking too good, eh?
  • mark156mark156 Member Posts: 1,915
th83, just wondering, why in the world would you let them do just a "Fair" job on your repair? How much damage was it?

Terry I got exactly 26k on the trade in of the ody ex on a deal where I got a FX35 - Tech for 400 over invoice. Not bad. Thanks a bunch for the numbers! :)
  • niteswmer2niteswmer2 Member Posts: 20
Thanks Terry! Always appreciate your insight. That was about what I had figured the "real-world" values to be. I was hoping to sell it for a smooth 50 grand (cuz you know, cars appreciate and all!). I had one dealer offer me 10K for a trade and thought that was kinda low, but wanted to make sure I wasn't just letting the love of my car get in the way of a decent deal. I'm gonna try the private party route for awhile since I don't "have" to get another car (and, it'll help brother and sis get to know eachother better).

Crestwood is just a hop, skip, and a jump from my place (St. Charles).

Bob's is great cuz you can get that ding out of your car and have ribs to boot. (Wouldn't that be nice if an auto shop really did BBQ for their customers?)
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Yep, I hear Bob is going to open up a launderette right next to it .. this way, you can eat barbecue, get your vehicle pounded out and painted, and get your clothes washed at the same time ..

                      Terry :-))

....... There is a lot of Saab's rolling around right now, but there isn't a whole lot of Arc's .. yet.

The miles are low so I gotta figure to the "right" dealer, it may do $23/$24 on a trade ..

                        Terry.

Terry, It appears you may have overlooked my post from last week - I know how easy that could be for someone who has as much message traffic as you do.

I am looking for a trade in value for a 1996 Altima GXE

    - 82K miles
    - new tires (within last 10K)
    - minor scratches on roof, door dings, no accidents
    - dark blue with blue/grey cloth interior
    - several new engine components (alternator, water pump, power steering pump)
    - had a battery explosion (which slightly dented the hood, all residue was rapidly washed out and no lingering affects noted)

    - located in Washington DC / Baltimore suburbs of MD

    Thanks for your help,
    Bob

Hi Terry, trade in value please.

The car is in Portland, Oregon.

    Color: Torch Red
    Mileage: 9,000
    Transmission: Automatic
Options: Moonroof, leather, air, pwr seats, windows, locks, heated seats, heated mirrors, alarm system, deep in rubber, no scratches or ring dings on the inside.
  • paulhuangpaulhuang Member Posts: 62
    Um, Terry,
I think you might have missed an important piece of information (it was in my post though)

It's an Explorer Sport with 2 doors. They don't come with a bunch of trim levels like the 4 door ones.

Anyway, I think it's a base Explorer Sport with Automatic, and nothing else. Hope that helps.
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
The FX is great. Quite a head turner compared to the oddy lol. I think Nissan/Infiniti is in full comeback mode. Thanks again for all your help!

My brother's ex is trading in the following on a new Jetta GLS 1.8 turbo automatic (just found this out today):

97 Dodge Avenger base 4-cylinder (aka 2-door Stratus now)
    80k miles, one female owner
    silver, gray interior, 16" alloys
    a/c, AM/FM cassette both working
    power windows, locks, automatic transmission
taken very good care of, great condition in and out, no rust, dents, no kids, no cigarettes, no fast food messes.

Given she's trading on a Jetta, I'm not guessing she's going to get too much. However, she's trading in the south suburbs of Chicago, where American cars sell better than up here, so that could be an 'equalizer'. TMV says $4900 on trade, which seems quite optimistic to me. She's hoping to get $4k.

    Hi Terry,
I'm curious about a private sale value for this car. It was my daily driver till I bought an I35 about a year and a half ago, and I've finally decided it doesn't really make sense just to have an extra car in the driveway:
1995 Volvo 850 Turbo sedan, dark gray with dark gray leather interior (and dealer wood on the dash). Automatic, CD changer, fog lights (don't recall if there were any other options; it's basically "loaded", as Volvo defined the term). Very clean in and out and no known problems running, good tires. But, 140,000 miles on the clock. San Francisco Bay area.
Any help you might be able to give would be appreciated.
      Thanks, Andy

....... Good morning Bob .. yes it does "appear" I missed your post, so lets see what we have here ...

It appears you have a lot miles here, it appears you have no-sale blue as a color .. it appears that you might have had a terrorist attack under the hood and it appears that it has new sneakers and some new parts .. it appears you may be lookin' in and around the $2,0/$2,500 zipcode on a trade ..

                      Terry :-)

...... Oooh, a little SS action going on here .. all the stuff, plus no miles, right color, slider, no Ho Ho's, no Dixie creams ..

Hmmm, the market is kinda strong on these pups right now .. you gotta see at Least $14,0 on the trade side, if it's as clean as you say it is ..

                    Let me know ....

Either I'm up late or you're up way early, goodness.

My dad is getting the itch again with his Cummins, keeps saying he's gonna trade it, I know he's gotta be buried in it.

2001 Dodge Ram 2500, quad cab, 4x4, SLT, all the pwr goodies, am/fm/cd, cummins diesel, auto, 20k on it, alloys, red/gray (has its few bumps and still has blood on the headliner). All in all a nice truck. He's saying its gotta be worth around $24k, what say you? He wants a new Cummins.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... My Psychiatrist says I miss a lot of important pieces ..

But anyway .. $7,900 is a great Easter Egg price, it will also make a great 4th of July price, could even be a good "Labor Day" blow out price ..

Unless this dealer is the Mayor of Baghdad, or smokin' that stuff in those big pipes or both, then his price is a L I T T L E on the high side .. can't have more than $4,0 in it if it's like brand new .. double nickels, $6,0 on the push is all the money for the "end of the month blow out price" ..

..... Good morning Sunshine, you must be up late .. I have been up for a couple of hrs, went to bed early, and a tee off time at 7:30 this am to chase those little peppered balls around ..

I gotta think that the $23/$24 range is the money .. the miles are low, the headliner matches the outside .l.o.l. it's a 4x4 Cummins, Q cab with all the stuff .. it's all good.

                   Terry.

...... Ohheee, these things are cold .. plus this one is a 4 banger, miled out, some toys, 2dr .. gosh, she might be better off leaving the keys in it and reporting it stolen ...

If she can see $3,0 out of it that would be nice .. if she see's 4,0 I would change religions, but let me know ... - $4,900 .? I have this piece of property down here in FL I would love to introduce you too, "I swear" if you get all the alligators off of it will be worth Big money ...

                     Terry :))

.... Hey Andy .. 140k ...? what, do you commute to La Jolla everyday ...?

IF ALL the service has been done, new rubber, looks and drives like 40k and needs -0- then maybe $5,500, and let the first 49er take it home for $4,0/$5,0 .. I dunno, lot's of miles.

                   Terry.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
...Just looking at local ads, I knew 'TMV' @$4900 on the Avenger was a (crack!) Pipe Dream. Turns out the VW dealer would do TMV (~invoice, aka $2k off MSRP) on the Jetta but only $2k on the trade. Not surprised, I advised to negotiate on the new car independently, (and also to check out the Accord!) sans trade; her credit's fine, she'll get the 1.9%/60 financing from VWoA. Kind of a typical 'caress you here, stab you there' scenario. Where does Edmunds get these figures?

Next step, put the Dodge in the Tribune @ like $39-44, take $35, run like hell and 'call it a day'.

Thanks, as always, for the figures and help!

Terry, you were right on the money -- we got $4700 in trade for the I30 (your estimate: 4-5K), which we felt fine about considering there was a rip in the rear seat and it needed a bit of mech. work. Also, it was a trade-in on an employee purchase priced vehicle, and I liked the dealership, so all-around good experience. Thanks!!

I threw away the middle bench on my Quest van so it's a 5 seater (I try to drive them forever, but figure I could always pick one up at the junkyard if I had to trade it).

Hey Akangl, I'm not liking the weather reports up there. Tell the ice to stick around for another week, will you? My classic ticket is for the 6th!

We are contemplating trading in DH's car. It's black, 5 spd., with sunroof. It's got approx. 90k miles and lives in Central NJ. Runs well, has new clutch (last 5k) and fairly new tires. Couple of dings here and there, but a good cleaning should take care of most of the cosmetic stuff.

    Thanks-

Terry, could you give me some idea what the real numbers might be for this vehicle?

NEW (never registered) '02 Montero XLS, 15 miles (yes 15), black, doesn't appear to have much beyond standard equipment i.e. no leather or sunroof or anything. It apparently went to auction (just a guess) as a liquidation from a defunct Mitsu dealer. It's sitting on a used car lot in NE. They're asking $25 large. What do you suppose they have in the car and what would be a good i.e. bargain price?

    Thanks in advance.
  • alfaberalfaber Member Posts: 19
    Terry,
Thanks for the numbers, although they are lower than I had hoped. I'm not an unusual driver, I just drove it about 20,000 miles a year for 7 years = 140k miles. I sorta hate to part with it, but I can see it needing an unexpected, very expensive repair one of these days, and then the only thing to do would be to scrap it or donate it to charity.
I'll let you know what I decide to do.
BTW: I've been a surfer of this board, sporadically, for some time, and you certainly provide a useful service. Thanks.

    Terry,

Can you give me an idea what I should be paying for a 2002 Cadillac DTS? I am planning to buy one, I and I would like know the ballpark retail figure from a GM dealer.

Shopping in North Jersey or Long Island, and looking for a car with the following options: Comfort and convenience package, chrome wheels, power sunroof, CD changer, XM radio and navigation. Colors I am looking at include silver/black/bronze with black or tan guts.

Looking at cars with between 8,000 and 20,000 miles on them - most are GM Certified.

Sorry for the long post, just want to be armed with good info for the inevitable debate with the local Caddy chaps.

    Thanks.

How'd I do? We are finally buying a car. Went to visit a friend today at a used car dealership and he had a beautiful 01 Corolla sitting there just begging me to take it home.

2001 Toyota Corolla CE, 44k, handshaker, only option seems to be a/c, it has am/fm/cass, its silver/gray, only bad thing I found about it is it needs tires, other than that it looks and drives like new. Paying $8495 + fees, total of $8878 OTD. We pick it up in the morning.

It will be so nice to be able to stop supporting the gas station with our truck, ugh. Of course we are keeping our truck, but it won't be a daily driver like it is now.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... If it "looks" clean, drives 40k, folks think it's a 01, then try $4,9 in the Trib for starters .. and just like you said - like $39-44, take $35, run like hell and 'call it a day'.
