Just to let you know, my friend got $13k for his black 2002 Acura RSX auto with 42k miles. He traded it in for a 2004 TL and he got $2k off MSRP on that so he was pretty happy with the overall deal. Thanks for your help.
Peter
I previously posted this, but I think this scrolled off your radar-screen over the holiday.

52k miles, stone silver metallic, roof rack, new tires & front brakes in last 5k miles, average condition (small scratch on right front bumper, right mirror, typical wear in carpet) in Akron Ohio.
Thanks for your help!
1993 Audi 100 S
114k miles, auto, fwd, dk gray metallic, cloth, clean car but not spectacular, good carfax, 3 owners but first 100k in 3 years, then apparently toy car for people around here... or in the shop the whole time, who knows.
1996 Audi A6 quattro
135k miles, auto, pearl white, blk leather, very clean looking. Also had three owners, but started life in New Orleans... that's better than MI any day of the week.
Both cars have a "sticky" driver's door latch -- why can't Audi build door lock mechanisms? A problem since 1983... Vorsprung durch Technik my foot...
Neither car HAS A SINGLE VIN STICKER on the body panels or doors. Huh? Both repainted? I thought that was a requirement??? If the gray one is a repaint, it ain't recent... and it doesn't look like bolts were turned, so go figure.
They also have a car that one of our post-docs should buy; this one looks like a deal:
1999 Mazda Protege LX
99k miles, 5sp, pwr this/that, AC, alloys. Some goldish/gray metallic color; very clean-looking car. Local, one-owner car.
I talked with the dealer; he said he marked the Protege down from $4,9 to $4,2 and has had it for a while; would let it go for less. Sounds good to me.
Anyway, the Protege is going to get bought by a friend, I think, unless it turns out to be a rat.
The Audis I need the way I need mumps, but it'd be nice to have one as a hobby car and I may drive these just to see how I like it... my other car is reliable, so I'm okay there... what I really need is a life. Or better yet, a pole barn with space for a half dozen cars!
TIA,
-Mathias
Terry.
Its -32 and dropping right now, supposed to be -40 tonight......brrrrrr.
1996 Audi A6 Quattro

Scary ..! .. did you ever see anyone in New Orleans walk a straight line at 8:30am, gheez they didn't even bother to go out til' midnite ..l.o.l. sounds like $3,5ish, $4,0 .. don't worry about those latches, it's the same problems you guys had with the "ooondersea boots", they should have it worked out by Dec 7th, 2041 .....
The 99 Protege', these are pretty nice and reliable, new body style .. 100k, it's an LX, no slider, no abs, but we have the wheels and it's a meat clever .. probably paid $2,5ish for it, add a this and a that, maybe sittin' at $3grand, $4,2 isn't bad, maybe $3,9 .?
Wanna buy a few turkeys.. Cheap ..?
Terry
Carmax is like any other type dealer .. and based on their location, time of the year, they can be buying anything .. the Carmax dealer in southern FL might be looking at Miata's this week and the one in Baltimore might be looking at 4x4 Yukons, it's hard to say ..
I don't know if I answered your question or not, besides NY and Tenn are all tied up as of this post, what will happen in the next hour could be anything ... Goooo NY ..!
Terry.

Looking for retail number on this truck which interest me greatly. Will like to know what I can/might offer the dealer.
2001 LX470, white/beige, 70K miles
loaded with Nav/ML, chrome wheels, heated seats, etc.
Good condition (in/out), no visible dings or scratches
in Texas (Houston)
Dealer is asking $35K for it.
Thanks

These are great vehicles, should see 200k+ properly service and cared for ...
$35k ...? ... seems a little on the tall side for any 70k vehicle .. if it's super nice, Fat daddy, deep rubber, looks drives and feels like 30k, no repaints, no I got stampeded at WalMart, then the dealer might, "could" have $29 and change in it .. I would think you could grab it for $32/$33 ... $35 ..? .. sure, if it had 45/50k.
Good luck and let me know ..
Terry.
Good call, there's $4,300 in the window.
"1996 Audi A6 Quattro 135k miles--
sounds like $3,5ish, $4,0 .."
They're "asking" $6,500. It IS nice...
$3,5-$4 is what I was thinking on the Protege. If it's been taken care of, that's a lot of car for the money....
Thanks as always... aren't you glad you're working off those Thanksgiving calories on the computer keyboard...?
-Mathias
You are kidding, right?
I'd be more afraid of a low-mileage 98 A6 than a high-miler that's fairly simple. The drivetrain is stout, it's the electrics that kills ya.. even the quattro isn't bad at all.. unless you're worried about a dozen or so C.V. boots.
But probably not.. I'll hold out for a 5sp quattro with leather :-)
-m
I am still scratching my head over spending THAT much.
I will be buying it AFTER he takes the test drive.
Oh well, will keep looking.
sounds like $3,5ish, $4,0 .."
I dunno, "might" be a good deal if you can snatch it for $4,5/$5,0 ... you know the routine, have a "PhD in Audi" put a scope to it ..
Terry.
This dude better be "jam-up", no repaints, seats need to look "hovered" in, no kisses, no KFC ..
Trade side and depending on the dealer, you should be seeing in and around that $24ish figure ...
Let us know ...
Terry.
Terry ;-)
Anyways, it's a 2002 Mustang GT Convertible (it's about 20F out right now and snowing here in MA), 5-spd, Blk on gray leather, Premium package w/the MACH 1000 stereo, but get this... only 1900 miles, basically showroom quality, clean CARFAX. The dealer is saying $20.9K... non-negotiable. What say you o'exaulted one.
Ouch. The sun has never been so bright as it was on those Sunday mornings as you stumble out of Ms. Mae's...with a "traveler" in hand of course.
That is when you can call yourself a "professional" drinker
...and put yourself on the list for a new liver.
Ooh, $20,900 ... ? .. and no negotiation .? .. I dunno, it's a convert, a pretty nice convert I'm sure, right color for the area and No miles ... but unless I'm mistaken, it's Dec 2nd and the vehicle is parked in the Doug Flutie zipcode, winter is probably a breath away .. you can buy em' all day long with ultra low miles for the high $15's, low low low $16's at any auction in that area ..
Unless there is a trade involved and the dealer thinks they have to show you an overallowance, I can't see why they wouldn't unhook that bad boy for the $17,9/$18,5 area ... $20,900 ...? .. are you sure this vehicle has been titled .. ? it's a 02 convert Mustang GT, not a Montblanc ...
Terry.
Oooooh, what a feelin' .. of course that's just what I heard, me personally I have never done anything like that, I was in church, honest injun' and that's my story and I'm sticken' to it (where's Jackson square again.? ~ over by that bright thing called the Sun) .. friends in Metaire .l.o.l...
Terry
eBay has done real well and it's a huge marketing design, but it's Very Wise to get a Superb inspection on vehicles that are too far to feel touch and smell, besides the sold percentage on eBay is only 25%, that should tell you something .. How's that go again ..? ... if it too good to be true ..?
Let us know ....
Terry ;-)
What can I reasonably expect? Would I be better of waiting for the spring? New Mustang debuts in October 2004, will my value drop drastically then? I'm in Nashville.
I reposted, because I think it skipped.
Not a bad guess from a dumb southern white boy without a colege, oops, collage, nah, college education and being 250 miles away .....
Terry
Auto ..? .. El' Manual ..?
Terry.
52k miles, stone silver metallic, roof rack, new tires & front brakes in last 5k miles, average condition (small scratch on right front bumper, right mirror, typical wear in carpet) in Akron Ohio.
Thanks for your help!
Based on your description and depending on the dealer, sounds like the ultra high $13's, low $14's on the trade side .. what are you thinking ...?
Terry.
Terry.
Terry,
Would love your input on the following:
2002 WRX Sedan, silver - 5 spd, one owner, clean history, current dealer picked up at auction, 75,000 miles, (i know car history because i talked to original owner, highway miles from commute to work. Mobil 1 synth oil changes)
AND
2002 WRX wagon silver -Automatic ;( - had about 3K damage to driver side, all cosmetic, has new door skin and new fender, I'm pretty good, but not an expert, and I can tell it had body work (slight ripples in doors) - 15,000 miles
THANKS!
Jim
The dealer probably paid in and around the $12ish zipcode and by the time they do a this and a that, it "might" come to the table in the high $12's .. what are they asking ...?
**had about 3K damage to driver side, all cosmetic, has new door skin and new fender** ... no help here .. again, depending on where you live it "sounds" like a $14ish vehicle on the trade side, not to sound smart, but if you see it I'm sure the dealer did ...
Terry.
Am I a pavlovian dog for being tempted by this? Mathais -- I know you said 10K, but is that for the LS with all the options? Here's all the details again...
* 45K
* All the options save electronic overdrive. Yes, that includes those fun radio controls on the steering wheel and sunroof.
* Color is black.
* In Cleveland area.
Tires need to be replaced, other then that -- appears to be in good shape. Does have a "fleet record" on it's carfax.
Those heated seats sure sound nicer than my old 93 honda civic for the coming winter freeze.
I'm waivering...come on guys... talk me out of it!
Let me know what you think.
Thanks
I really don't know, Terry's your man here... I may be off base with the $10.
As far as "electronic overdrive", there ain't no other kind no more; "overdrive" is just an anachronistic term for fourth gear in a FWD car, and this is no three-speed.
The reason they're calling you is there's an echo in the showroom, nobody's buying, Christmas is coming, and you were interested.. so what's he got to lose?
You need a professional opinion here, sorry :-(
-m
with 45K on it. All the options save electronic overdrive. Color is black. In Cleveland area. Tires need to be replaced, other then that -- appears to be in good shape. Does have a "fleet record" on it's carfax. Dealer has dropped the price to $13.9 (from 14.5 and 15 before that...) Is this a good deal, or dime a dozen?
__________
Mathias is pretty close on this one .. I'm sure the dealer is looking at the auction reports in their area and right now, their seeing the high $9's, low low low low $10's with 45k .. you don't want to get into a pissing match with the dealer, false pride never buys anyone anything .. $10,9/$11,5 would be all the money ...
If they run it off to the auction, they "might" get Reeeal lucky and see $10,5 on a 45k LS .. deduct the auction fee $250, transport fee $150, detail $100, that comes to around $10,0 ... yep, $10,9/$11,5 is all the money and fair for both, Christmas is a few weeks away and they know it .. $12,9 ..? great price if you live in Tibet.!
Terry :-)
Is there an echo in here ... ?
Terry
It's a 01 I30T*, it's black(onyx) we got all the stuff, you "say" it's clean, we have 20k and the dealer wants to give you $15,0 on a trade ...
That's a nice figure, I would like to give ya $15 for it and a steak dinner .. but if it's a nice one, clean to the bone, miles are low, then it's a $16,5 vehicle .. sounds like a domestic dealer and they don't know what they are looking at (?) ...
Terry
Thanks for the info. Dealers offered 17.5 and 18k for the trade-in and you estimated 18k. I sold it myself for 21k - took 30 minutes to sell and only looked at by one person. Thanks!!!
Terry.
I'm thinking a good condition one from a reputable high quality dealer, around $6500 give or take plus tax title license, etc. It was the other drivers fault. How much damage was done to the car? Any injuries?
thanks for the jolt of realism. I'm sure I'll be back for another sometime after the holidays.
;-)
Suka
Please realize this guy works like a dog - give him a break and tell him what city and state that zip code belongs to, while you're asking for your free trade numbers.
The wagon, was asking 18, alraedy offered to let it go for 15.
btw, all these are in memphis area. Thanks again!
Do you know if CarMax haggle at all on asking prices?
