Hey I don't know where you live but where I do it gets really bad at certain times of the year. We have one older mall in the not so great part of town that loses six yes six cars everyday. I live in Phoenix AZ so allot of cars and especially trucks are taken to Mexico or used to smuggle illegal aliens and pot. Keep in mind, if you use a fairly reputable insurance company they can usually sell you gap much cheaper. Also I bought my truck through a credit union and they offer it cheaper than the dealer as well. Like I said though it can depend on your demographics.

Yes, carjacking is a problem as is just plain old auto theft. Auto theft was a misdemeanor until a couple years ago, now its felony grand theft auto. Its a HUGE problem in the winter when vehicles are left idling in parking lots with keys in them. When I had my 97 Explorer it had auto start, so I could leave it idling with no keys in it. Don't have that on the 2004 *yet*, but will have eventually. I hate having to go out in my jammies and start my car, ugh.

As for U-Haul, I wouldn't rent their junk anyway. Trailers with bad/loose wheel bearings, bald tires, trucks ready to break down, um, no thanks. What's so stupid about the whole thing is they will still rent to Mercury Mountaineers and Lincoln Aviators, um, guys, its the same dang truck.

I get so tired of media hype, I chose to buy another Explorer because it was the only dang SUV that fit our family (especially hubby), our dogs, and our budget. I find it to be a very enjoyable vehicle, but as with any SUV you have to have some common sense when it comes to driving it.

We have our own car hauler trailer that doubles for anything else we need it to be. We moved an entire household worth of stuff with it once. We also have a big V10 to pull it with. I hate renting anything, too much risk involved.

Sheesh, what are they going to tell us next, its too dangerous to walk. I give up!!

"requests for the value of a dkw or nsu in stuttgart"

Easy there, big fella... them companies live on in, you guessed it, AUDI. The first car I can remember, an early 60s DKW 1000 -- miserable piece of junk w/ 2cycle engine -- had the Four Rings Of DOOOOM on the hood. They also made mopeds well into the 80s... hey, there's an idea, put one of those in the trunk for when the Audi won't run...

The forerunner of the Audi 100 sedans was the NSU Ro-80, the first production car with a Wankel engine. Sensibly abandoned in favor of Audi's delighful inline five... Too bad it took Japanese engineering to really make the rotary work.

    "Hey, Günter, how's your Wankel?"
    I dunno...

    Terry: "Bratwürst" to you, too.

    A bientot,

I hope all is warm because we are freezing here,
but the Acura sits in a warm garage.
We have a friend that will need a van because of a handicap, they will trade in their car so I need some info, again.
They have a 03 Jaguar "X type" awd, with 6100 miles (6,100) it's a Sport with the 2.5 V6, auto, no nav, moonroof, heated seats, 17 inch wheels, 6 play cd, wood steering wheel, seats fold in the back, it's adriatic blue metal with the grey leather. It's almost new and the dealer was thinking $20,000 for it and the original MRSP was like $38,000, I know some cars depreciate but this is a little crazy, what say you?

    As always and always, thanks!

Terry, another story that ends well due in no small part to your assistance!! Bought it yesterday for $24.9. That matches the best prices I have been tracking on E*Bay. I guess buying in the dead of winter in the frozen north (North Dakota-Minnesota) has some advantages. Thank you VERY much for your help and commentary.

Thanks for the response on the Explorer and the Trooper, Terry.

I've been hanging in the Infiniti G35 topics for the last few months, but I like dropping in over here in the "real world" just to keep a feel for the market.

I'll let you know what happens on the Explorer and Trooper. Gotta get busy watching the four NFL playoff games this weekend. (No rest for the weary.) Kinda rooting for the Packers and the Patriots.

Hey, you didn't mention the "V8" part of the Explorer deal. I'm guessing that bumps it up by $500 or so?

    ..... >>Bought it yesterday for $24.9<<...

You Did Great on that one ..!! .. I have sold them to dealers in your area for almost that ... Low miles, 4x4 and all the stuff ~ I ain't so crazy about the color, but then again I still wear plaid shorts when I play golf ......... :)

...... I pegged it with a V6, but don't lose a deal for a few hundred bucks or so on the V8, it's going to depend on the dealer, what he/she has in stock and whats been rolling around for the last 2/3 weeks ... tons of V6's, much fewer V8's ...

This is a season of Parity and I just love it .. so tired of Dallas/Miami .. I love KC, Indy would be super cool and with Favre on such a roll, the Titans playing in the Arctic ..... I just can't take the pressure..!!!!

Ok there stud boy .. it's loaded up with only 5k, we have the Disney package, we got nav, we got the sport pack, we got the Bozo sound, we got the 20's, we got bun warmers, we got the slider, we got it all.! .. I bet you don't have the Vogue tires ....... :)

Color is ok, miles are low and as long as it looks and drives like it was bought yesterday, then you shouldn't have a problem selling it ~~ but not for $50grand .. !!

.. Invoice was probably $49ish, dealers can buy them at the auctions with 3/5k with all the junk for the $41/$42ish range ....

You may want to try $46,9 and go from there ... $50 grand ....? .. do you want to sell it or make a planter out of it.?? ~ $50 grand my butt.!

many thanks for your help! I'm the one who thought I was getting $22.5k for the '02 Tahoe LS (5.3, liftgate, no 3rd seat, and 18k miles). In the end I was off $500 or $1000 depending on whose invoice numbers I believe. Either way, I'm happy enough. Made the trade for the new Tahoe tonight and don't think they broke out the champagne when I left. This site gives me a real number to work with making the buying experience much easier. Thanks again!

I have seen "sports" with no cd, no slider and the 16's with a handshaker, I bet they sell fast ....... ;)

If it's as new as yesterday, no kisses, no funny stuff in the ashtrays .. trade side, in and around the the mid to high $23's, maybe "could", it's "possible" to see $24, Maybe in the right Solar System ......... $20,0 .? .. someone is a little too close to the Liquid Plumber .. Or, they probably don't know what their looking at, shopping for a van with a Jag is like shopping for a $25 shirt at Neiman Marcus, make sure you have the option list and shop around .....

    ...... Good Job.! .. "I think" I was using $3,9 as a target price .. $4,2 is all the $$ ....

You will probably see it go whizzing by you in another month or so with a 3,000 paint job, 4,000 stereo, lights and wheels .. a year after that you will see they can't get $2,500 for it .l.o.l..

Actually, the guy who bought it is in his late 30's to early 40's, and simply needed something reliable and cheap to commute in. He has a 40-year-old Corvette that he doesn't want to use as his daily driver. I had a couple of offers at 3,9.. but they came from people who never called me back.

...... >>I had a couple of offers at 3,9.. but they came from people who never called me back.<<.. ...

Typical stuff ~ "Hey, will you sell it for $3,900.?" .. "the question is, will you buy it for $3,9.?" .. " ah, er, well, as soon as I check with my mother-in-laws second cousin, who has a friend that knows a guy that had a Honda in Kansas in 95, I want to see what his brother says" .. by that time I'm usually snoring away .l.o.l...

Terry, wondering what this one is worth. In Massachusetts, a 99 Civic EX coupe, silver, handshaker, 64,xxx miles. Has the usual EX stuff, moonroof, CD, AC, keyless entry, etc. Tires have nice deep tread, interior looks like an 02, outside is fine with no kisses, dings or dongs. I bought it new and was going to drive it till the wheels fell off, but the daughter's old Camry is just about dead, so I'm thinking of selling the Civic to her. Looking for trade-in and private party prices, so I can figure out a family discount. Send me to my room if I've forgotten anything.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... So in the land of the Patriots, we have a 99 Civic silver EX with 65k ..

We got the handshaker, we have some tunes, we have deep sneakers and we have a hole in the roof .. no kisses, no runs, no hit's or errors .. trade side, in and around the low low low $5's, maybe the mid $5's with the proper planet alignment .. down that winding street to Retail Rd, $7,5 *asking" and $6,5/$6,9 gets a new driveway ...

    Hi Terry,

Your service is invaluable and entertaining. Thanks!

I have a 2003 Subaru Legacy SE sedan. I am needing to trade it for a Baja -- I need the hauling capacity.

I know I'll take a hit on the sedan, but how much? The Legacy has 5,000 miles, it's silver with a manual tranny and all of the SE options, roof, wheels. It is pretty much in new condition, as it is still new! I'm in Indiana.

Thanks, in advance, for any info you can provide.

    Hi Terry

Here is what I want to trade:

Infiniti G35, 2003 (early "03 before they changed the trunk and made xenons std.)
    Carribean Blue (dark blue)
    9600 miles
    Black leather and sunroof
It does NOT have the premium pkg
    Exc condition.
I do have four new Bridgstone snows with steel rims from Tire Rack to include if it matters.

This is the basic car, without the fancy stuff.

    Thanks your your help!

I'm getting ready to trade in my 1999 Nissan Maxima GXE. It has 96124 miles. Dark Green with air, power steering, power windows, power door locks, tilt wheel, cruise, AM/FM CD, dual fron air bags, power driver seat, and rear spoiler. It was repainted in April due to hail damage. I've been told by one dealer that it was a bad paint job and he can only offer 4000.00. Another dealer didn't mention the paint job and offered 4500.00. I just would like an unbiased view. Thanks

    silver/black int.
    Houston, TX
    non-navi
    rear spoiler
    35k miles (purch in 7/01)
    great shape, inside and out

Edmunds takes off around $800 for mileage, but the 2002's came out really early so the car has average mileage when age is considered--should I still expect the dealer to penalize me?

Has the isolated transmission problems of these cars had an affect on resale?

Would I expect an Acura dealer to give a better trade than, say, a Honda dealer?

    Thanks, Chris
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Hey Chris .. everyone in Houston must be trading their vehiclcle, this is like the 4/5th post from there in the last few days ...

Let's see here .. it's a silver "S" with black guts, we got some miles, no nav, it better have deep rubber on all 4, no kisses, no Subway invasions in the interior, no repaints .. trade side, in and around the high $18's, maybe the low low $19's if everything is going your way .. the miles are not your friend here no matter when it was built ..

Who will have the better trade figures.? .. it's always hard to say, the Honda dealer might need some vehicles and the business and step up, and the Acura dealer might be up to their eyeballs in TL's and hit it low .. or .. it could be the other way around, it's always a guess .. .. the tranny issue has never a been "real" problem.

Let me know what happens ..

..... Hey Darrin .. so you find all this entertaining ..?

Looks like a 5k SE with all the stuff, we got the meat clever going on, so if it feels and looks new .. then trade side, in and around that mid to high $14ish range, "maybe" could see that $15ish zipcode .. the miles save this one.

Let me know how you do ..

Got no miles here, color is ok, it's a base with the slider and leather .. you know the deal, it's gotta be like 960 miles .. snow tires.? .. must be a Yankee boy .. trade side, in and around the mid to high $25's, maybe the low low $26's depending on where you live ..

What a play on 4th and 26!! McNabb is the man, and I am soooo glad that the whole Brett Favre sob story is finally over. Sorry, but the Eagles weren't getting much respect. What was Favre thinking with that "punt-like" pass :)
