I see the miles - is that exactly 20K, or 29? or 19? It matters.

Color of exterior and interior is a very important factor.

Someone wanting a number down to the penny, as most people do, should really do better than a 27 word description. They'd put a bunch more than that into a newspaper ad!

In Los Angeles. Looking to trade in my '00 Jetta GLX, Black, stick, fully loaded, only 24,200 miles towards a lease on a '04 Chrysler Pacifica.

The car is in excellent condition and very well maintained (as you can tell by the low miles.) I have added a couple of extras, most of which can be removed except for the wheels (the rims have curbage). Here are some pictures to get an idea:

I have the original tail lights I can put back on as well. I'm going to try and do a private sale. KBB value is about $12k. What do you think I could realistically get on a trade in?

It has 20,000 miles, is silver with charcoal(black) cloth interior, 4x4, no dents, dings, etc.

Our 3yr/36K lease is up this summer and we are trying to decide if we can afford to buy our 9-5 Wagon, or if we should "downsize" to something like a 2002 Saturn LW-300 V6. So the basic question is, is it reasonable to present a counteroffer for our $18,200 residual, and what might that be in relation to auction values?

We're in SoCal, it's a Steel Grey Met, 2.3L Auto with Leather, Sunroof, F/R Heated Seats w/Memory, HK Audio.

And what about the Saturn, might it be a prudent step down? The Edwards TMV for one is about $10K from a private party, which would make for a big savings...

.......... Ya know, I read about 90% of all the boards, and as a rule I hardly answer or get involved in all the: "mine is bigger than yours stuff" ... but I just don't understand how someone just Chainsaws everyones head off because they think their vehicle is better than everyone else's, then refuses to "hear" anything that might prove anything different ... he doesn't even own, nor has he driven one, and now he's telling all the Maybach owners how to live their lives .l.o.l...

Then there is stupid me, who spends an hour of my time ... Slaaaaap.! ~ Wake up Terry, what were you thinkin' ..?

Good morning terry! So what do you think about that Denali? Here is a repost:

Terry, an "opportunity" came my way this weekend...

My uncle gets a vehicle leased for him by a bank that he does some work for. It is not the standard practice so they don't have a policy for getting rid of it. They are going to trade it in on a new vehicle for him. He got it last November (15 months ago) and he has 41K miles on it since it acts as his office and he is all over town and the surrounding area. He takes really good care of it and since I am in the market for something new (to me) he is going to see what they would sell it to me for instead of trading it in.

It is a 2003 (could be an 02, I am not sure) Yukon Denali (not the XL) with all the goodies...but no dvd system, nav or slider....41k miles, that pewter/silver/beige color with grey guts, AWD, heated capt chairs etc.

I have relocated from the land of Mardi Gras to the land of Okies...as in Tulsa. Dont ask.

What would a "deal" price be? I am really looking for a sedan but for the right deal I would go with the Denali...a pretty sweet ride.

Can you hit me with the 2003 and the 2002 price?

    Thanks.

..... And thanks for the compliment ..

It's a 99 GLS, we have 58k, auto, leather and the slider .. if you go by the auction reports in your area, their doing "in and around" the mid to high $6's, a few here and there might see the low low $7's ... I'm guessing the insurance co. will be using Nada, maybe Kbb, who knows, maybe even Edmunds or let's add all up and divide by 3, not a bad way to go .l.o.l...

There has been a lot of posts on what some of the folks have received from insurance totals and it seems they are on the mid to high side of retail, who's retail..? .. I dunno .l.o.l... I gotta think they are trying to hit her at the $8/$9ish range..?!?? .. always remember, when they finally get to that "final figure", then say: Don't forget the Sales Tax ~ *Never mention it before ...

Let me know how it goes ...

                          Terry.

Hey Terry when my car was total out, the insurance
company had some agency that provided them with the selling
price of three automobiles with similar mileage and features. They use the average of the three for the payoff figure. They sent me the info
when I protested the amount of my payoff.

PS the report also included pictures of the automobiles.

...... Wow .. moving from "Naw leans" to Oklahoma, Whoa, now there's a cultural change, that's like moving from Disney World to North Korea .l.o.l..

Anyway, lets start out with an 02 41k Denali awd, it's about a $26ish vehicle at the auctions, so I'm assuming that the lender will be looking at letting it go street side for $28ish, maybe less ... if it's an 03 with 41k, then their looking at $29ish at the block, I would think they would cut it loose for $31 or less .. it will all depend on who you speak with, and if they are even paying attention to the market or reading too many DC comic books ......... :)

I think I answered you question.?!?

                             Terry :)

PS: those Denali's make for some Nice drivers.!

I have a '99 LS400 loaded with everything except the air susp. (Nav/HID/heated seats/etc). The car now has 82K miles and all scheduled maintainance have been performed to date. The car has ZERO problems. Drives like an '03 :) Pearl White color. Live in So Cal.

Here is where I need you to be sober and attentive :)

I will be trading this in in the summer of 2006 for the 2007 LS4XX. I expect to put on additional 25K miles by then. What do you suppose I *could* get for it by then ? Alternatively, what is it worth today if I wanted to trade it in on an '04 LS430 ? Just put on four round things (~5K miles on them).

    Muchos muchos gracias....

you want him to project a value on a 110-120K car 2.5 years down the road?

ok, that's like asking your stockbroker what GE will be worth 2 to 3 years? jees, who knows.

Terry can definately tell you what its worth today, then a good exercise for you would be to take a look around your area at ls400's that are a few yrs older than yours with mileage you are projecting, it should give you a good feel for what you'll be looking at....

It will be worth somewhere in and around $50 or more .... so there, naah.!

99 LS400 in todays money in SCal .. right color, gotta be lookin' and driving like 30k, no gangsta attacks, clean, no repaints .. sounds like in and around the $16's, the low low $16's if it needs -0- ..

Terry - what's your take on this one. The salesman said he didn't certify it because it was such low mileage and it would add $2000 to the price. The in service date is 2/2002.

If the trade-in works well, I might be going up there tomorrow. We haven't dickered on sales price yet but I wanted to talk to you first before I made an [non-permissible content removed] out of myself(<- do so on nightly basis :)

    options:
    bose
    xenons
    cd changer
    sport seats
    stability mgmt
    aftermarket porsche wheels
    some aluminum trim

the price seems a little low to me .... possible accident history?

Drift, butch, lancer.... yeah, I am projecting into the future.... Hehehehe. BTW, I did ask my stockbroker what MSFT would be worth in 5 yrs from now ? Guess what, he actually did provide me his best guestimate. Let's just say, MSFT will be worth MORE in 5yrs than now. That is my stock tip for 2004.

Seriously tho', I *could* project resale being 10-20% lower after the car crosses the imaginary 100K miles. Now if it is worth in the mid-10s today, add another 25K miles, at an annual depreciation of 10-20%, it probably could see $9K-ish by mid 2006. That's still $9K LESS for me to pay for that brand new 2007 LS. That's my thinking.

Thanks Terry for ballparking today's worth of my LS for me. Gives me an idea of projections down the road.

Hey, maybe I can get to flip another coin with the dealer for the new LS. This time, it's gonna be MY coin we'll flip. Hehehe....

........ Good description, great pics .. the pics look good, you did it right, never shoot standing up, always shoot "up" on a vehicle (which you did) either that, or your really short .l.o.l.

It has no miles, good color for the area, I can "see" the love, cute little Spanish bungalow, it's a handshaker and we have a little curbage ... trade side, in and around the high $10's, low $11's, the stick will hold this one back ...

Me personally, Retail Rd material .. kick the lens (keep the others) big fat 5 liner Ad, don't let it get dusty, service records on the porch, $13,9 *asking* and whine and cry at $12,5/$13,5 but take it .. these sell Fast and Furious in your part of the country, this won't last 5 days .....

Nice little vehicle, let me know how it goes ........... :)

........ What the heck is all that white stuff ..? .. Ooooh I get it, they shot it on one of the old sets of Miami Vice, right.?

It's not the big dog, it's a Carrera "2" Cab .... he's only asking $64,9 so he's not trying to kill anyone and I'm sure he wants to unload that much floorplan, I bet $63ish might get it home, maybe even a little less .. how long has he had it.? .. check the history ..

Maybe some body work, maybe he doesn't want to send it south and throw the dice at the auctions, there only doing "around" $62/$63ish if they a jam-up puuuurfect, glow in the dark and your g/f could do her make-up in the reflection, plus the color might hold it back at a southern auction, who knows .. what saves this pup is the looooow miles ..

                       but let me know .l.o.l...

                          Terry.

PS: he's right, why add another $2,000 to the price of a convert in the dead of winter ~ blow and go, cut it from the herd, say See Ya, etc, etc .....
  • chile96chile96 Member Posts: 330
I was hoping I could get it for sub $60K but then it would definately smell fishy. Don't know how long he has had it but I'm not 100% sold on it. There are just too many out there to be "had" in the $60's.

He said he could only probably do low 40's on my trade and suggested I look into private sale (2003 Boxster S 5K miles loaded). It's already on autotrader so I'll need to unload my baby before I delve into a "new" one.

    flip side

    i'm not sure i'd agree w/ ya on msft...l.o.l.

as for your projections, i think you got to worry with not only mileage, but age of car, body style of car (2 newer styles when you trade it), etc... a lot of different factors. And, to use your example, if its worth $10ish today in 2004, i can almost guarantee you if you put another 25/30k on the odo, that in 2 yrs in 2006, you'll see more than $1k drop in price... if not, sign me up, thats a cheap ride, your talking less than $0.04 cents per mile!
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... I just left you a PS on the other post .. but anyway, looks like he's trying hard to get your business with $40,0 for your "S" ..

I just paid $41,0 for one with 1,634 miles and I didn't have to scrape the snow off of it and I won't have to wait til' spring to sell it ........ :)

All it takes is to get Terry to stop over here in San Diego on any of his planned trips to the Riverside auction here in So Cal. We'll take darn good care of him. A *few* beers, steak at his favorite steakhouse, and the very best Cuban cigars. As much golf as his putter and driver can take in Torrey Pines Golf Course. Shucks. Just missed the Buick Invitational here. Darn.

    butch:

Terry pegged my '99 at the low low $16K. That's where I projected another $7-8K depreciation in a couple of years. Yeah, I think I *could* see the low low $8-9K for mine if it is purfect, needs -0-, and glows in the dark :)

sorry, i think what you wrote and what you thought are two different things...l.o.l. here is your direct quote from post #17406

'Now if it is worth in the mid-10s today, add another 25K miles, at an annual depreciation of 10-20%, it probably could see $9K-ish by mid 2006.'

I'm not aruing about the value of your car.... my comment was specifically related to the above statement... if what you meant to say was the its worth mid-16's today, that changes the whole stated theory, and then makes much more sense.

    no biggie...

..what whould an honest person have to pay at auction, say in Columbus or Louisville, for a 99 Jeep Cherokee with 60k miles, say a Sport 4x4 in good shape? And I know that 99% of them have the 4sp, but how much less would a manual tranny be -- all with the 6cyl, of course?

And: How are those dollars expected to change as we get into summer?

I have been looking for a Dodge Intrepid for my friend and came across this.

    http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=155987587&dealer- - - - - _id=1093000&car_year=2004&make=DODGE&distance=100&amp- ;amp- ;amp- ;amp- ;amp- ;max_price=13000&model=INTRE&end_year=2005&advcd_on=n- - - - - &min_price=0&address=77066&search_type=used&advan- - - - - ced=n&start_year=2004&color=&cardist=6

    2004 Dodge Intrepid SE
    Price $11,995
    Mileage 29,788
    Exterior Color Silver
    Interior Color Gray
    Engine 6 Cylinder Gasoline
    Trans. Automatic

Is this a good deal? She is not worried about resale value. I am located in Houston. I also talked to a sales guy and they do not want to move from their $11,995 (they have 4 of the them priced the same), saying that's the lowest priced on the net in my area right now. I almost feel like suggesting to her a '02 Camry/Altima/Galant for a little more. She just does'nt like the idea of paying more for an older and higher mileage car. Any help appreciated.

    Thanks.

.......... There is tons of base SE's rolling around the country, mostly rentals ..

This one has Tons of miles and the warranty is up in 6,000 miles (not the powertrain) probably bought a batch at the Dallas or San Anton auctions ... maybe paid $10,5ish and by the time they got it home has $11ish in it, $11,9 is a very fair price ..

Me personally, I would be buying a 8/12k vehicle for the same price on a Intrepid or maybe a few hundred more ... 30k .? Waaay too many miles for a 7 month old vehicle ...

Repost - Terry et al - 1999 VW Jetta GLS VR6 by corvette Feb 16, 2004 (1:41 pm)
I'm looking to get out of a 1999.5 VW Jetta GLS VR6, silver with black leather guts. 16" VW wheels, almost new Michelin Pilot tires, looks like 40k miles but has 90k. Very good to excellent cosmetically. Options are the heated leather seats, alloy wheels, automatic transmission, and moonroof. I'm in central Kentucky. What can I get for it? Many thanks...

                 ===================

What can I say.? .. it's a VR6, it has all the stuff and you say it's in great shape .. that being said, it has a Zillion miles and that will slap the value sideways ..

If it's clean like you say it is - trade side, it will probably see the high $5's, low low $6's .. maybe, Retail Rd is the better way to go here - *asking* $8,900 and wave goodbye at the first $7,5/$8,5, remember you competing with 30/40k vehicles ... the VR6 saves it and the miles kill it ..

Let me know how it goes ...

Highlander Value by ahlin Feb 16, 2004 (8:29 pm)
2001 Toyota Highlander Limited Vehicle has moonroof, skid control, leather and all of the other limited options. excellent condition- a couple of body dings- all wheel drive of course. Would appreciate any ideas of real world trade value- 43000 miles Thanks much!

               =======================

I guess your from Minnesota.? .. it's a 01 Highlander limited 4wd with 43k and we got some slider action .. if the rubber is new, no slash and grabs in the interior, no repaints and the service is 100% .. then trade side you should be seeing in and around the $20ish figure, could "maybe" roll towards $21ish if it's super clean and needs -0- ....

Nah Terry, they are here being sold for way more than they are worth on the BHPH lots. Its a pretty good mix of stick/auto on those Cherokees here in Alaska. Although I would say autos are a tad easier to find.

I sold an 85 Cherokee 2.8 V6/auto with 189k on it (miles were questionable since I could roll them back by driving in reverse), no working 4WD, been wrecked and had the bondo/primer to show for it. Interior was hammered, no muffler, needed tires, we replaced the starter. It ran pretty good and went down the road ok. Got $500 for it last May (I was in it $300 and had driven it for 2 months). Its still going too, belongs to one of the cops on base. I don't honestly think there is anything that can kill a Cherokee (besides my hubby).

I wouldn't bet on the cars in Columbus having any less salt exposure than the cars in Michigan. Louisville, maybe.. but you are assuming all the cars come from the surrounding area. I live just about equi-distant between those two places. Columbus and Cincinnati use salt liberally, although they don't get as much winter weather as Michigan. In Louisville, Lexington, etc.. they just close up shop when they get 3-4 inches. They don't have the equipment to do anything about it, let alone salt it.
