Lease is up. Have to do something. Buy out is $20,500.
What is reasonable value for this on trade if I want to start the money pump back to the beginning and go with an '04?
Thanks for the help

Lo and behold, two months after I wrecked it, it started a new life down in FLA. General comment was "Odometer reading reported for title."
There were no notices of being totalled, or having the airbags deployed.

I thought gas was priced in liters over there....and there are ~4 liters in a gallon, so its more like $12-16 per gallon. No?
Its time to get rid of the TT, and I'm looking at the FXes from Infiniti. If you would please, I'd like a little market report on how the FX45s and FX35s have been doing at auction lately. I'm quite curious to hear how they're doing since the dealers were clearing the fully tarted 45s out for 10-12k off sticker about a month ago.
Now, I'd like a more specific apprasial....I found a black/black FX35 with RWD here in Houston with 8k miles, haven't seen it in person, but the pix looked good, has premium and sport packages. Whatcha say its worth?

Hunt that sucker down and buy it! This quite clearly qualifies for that $5,000 CarFax guarantee.
** 1.20 Euro/liter * 3.7854 liters/gallon * 1.21 $/Euro = $4.50/gallon **
Oooooh, $2.12 seems cheap compared to $4.50 ................ ;-)

Great, more big words I have to look up ....

Down the path to Retail Rd, $17,900 *asking* and cut it from the herd with the first $16,9/$17,5 - lots of 10/12k Accords you have to compete with, most without the Picasso paintwork ........

Terry - helping a friend into a new car that better fits her lifestyle (or at least her perception of it!). Anyway, an 03 Honda Odyssey EX-L with RES (DVD player/screen). In great shape (looks almost new and well, it is. . ). Auto, 16K miles. Tires are what you would expect for 16K. Located in Dallas/Ft Worth, color is Silver/grey leather. The chrysler dealer offered $23K and given that the 04's are being heavily discounted this sounded good to me. Your thoughts?

** Not to rush you (ok, I am rushing you) **
Okay okay I'm on it, gheez somebody had too much coffee today ......
It's an 03 Ody EX-L with the Disney package and 16k and the right color for the area .. you should know the rules by now ~ it's gotta be super clean, no french fry invasions, no paint by numbers, no slasher interior ... $23.? .. sounds about right, might be a nick here or there if it's ultra super great and wonderful, and it "glows in the dark", and "if" it needs -0- then $23,5 would just about flat kill it ..... I think you got all the $$ ............
Don't forget to let me know.!

Only 29,500 miles
Location - Chattanooga, TN (37421)
Original owner. Non-smoker. Never in a serious accident (but has had some minor body repairs due to a parking lot hit-n-run). No kids or pets, so interior is in excellent condition. Garage kept, but paint isn't perfect - as it has a small scrape on the fender and some paint swirl. No mechanical problems (that I'm aware of anyway). All records, owners manual, service history, key-fobs, etc.
Thanks for your assistance!
------------------------------------------------------------------ -----
Guess I should also mention that I'm running on the original rubber, which probably has about 10-15k miles of tread left. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
Holy cow, you own stock in the oil company????
We have to fill the V10 up tomorrow, gas is at $1.97/gal and I'm grumbling. Chevy should be fixed by the end of the weekend providing the part comes in tomorrow. Needless to say that old thing ain't going anywhere, 18-20 mpg hwy vs 10 mpg hwy for the V10.
Looks like those insanely low miles on the V10 will stay insanely low. Its sitting at 18k (on a 1999), my Explodeder will turn 11k tomorrow.

And that's Germany, which has among the lower prices in the EU.
Even at $2 per, gas is cheap in the US, and the way people waste it every day, I'd argue it's too cheap. We should roll the operating cost of the 5th fleet into it, since that's part of the required oil field maintenance.

03 right .? trade side, it's worth in and around the 32/$33ish zipcode, dealer "might" take around the $35/$36ish area I would think, miles are super low on this one .. whats he asking.?
03 FX45's with miles in the 4/6/8k range are seeing the tall $38's, low $39's ....
Terry.
It's a 00 with low low miles, we have the leather, we have the cold pack, slider, cd tunes, wheels, a few little scrapes here and there and we have all the books and records - everything was going your way until you mentioned that darn handshaker ... trade side, in and around the ultra high $8's low $9's, "might" "maybe" sneak towards the mid $9's, but I have a feeling the tires and the joystick will hold it back .......
Let me know how it goes ..!
Terry.
Trade -- 96 Cadillac Deville base. dark blue over dark blue heated leather. no CD, no roof...just the standard stuff. 130k miles. no accidents, no paintwork. tires have 75% of tread left. looks and runs like an '01. can you give me trade and retail numbers?
Buy -- 03 Buick Century custom. white. no CD. 30k miles. certified. like new condition, from a Buick dealer.
Thanks in advance!
Unless you have a Crystal ball ~ or you and Spock have some sort of "time travel" deal going on with the Enterprise, and Captain Kirk will let you do it - then you just don't know ..
Kia has been in the country for 10 years, and based on the last 9 of those years they have had *Less than Below average* products (too say the least) and when I don't see massive amounts of 1 and 2 year old Kia's with 15/20k (and Hyundai's) at the auctions with *MBB/NW* slapped on the windshields, then I might change my opinion ..
A nice design and few good articles don't make a winner .. what makes a winner is a fleet of vehicles that have a history of reliability, longevity and has proven itself over a long period of time ... based on that, Kia hasn't even made it through elementary school .........
Terry.
I should just get it over with and actually get in "the business" somehow, and at least get paid for all the time I spend on discussing cars.

"the improved product will never stand a fair shake in the marketplace.
well, when they start producing vehicles that can last, are reliable, etc... they'll have to earn it. It won't happen in one year b/c the initial quality is better, that would be a silly extrapolation. Its going to take years to build their reputation. Until they do, there will always be the ?? mark.
01 SE V6, has all the stuff and then some .. I don't remember what your buy figure was, but it's worth in and around the high $14's low low $15's trade side .. Saabs are kinda of a cult, weird religion, Area 51, the Matrix type vehicle, maybe GM can do something with them cuz' they have the resale of an artichoke and the reliability of burnt toast .. you either need to buy them for pennies on the dollar, or lease them CHEAP ..
In your case I would probably finish the lease (or extend it) to get a 04/05 TL and/or run the risk of a new RL, which in my opinion "won't" be leasing or selling for a giveaway prices .. gheez, even 02 RL's with good miles are still doing the $23/$24ish figure at the auctions and dealers are still getting the $26/$27 range if they are "jam-up" .. the only bad thing is, they start breaking down around that 150/170K range, and then you have to waste a whole day trying to find another in 6/7 years - what a Pain.!
Terry ;^}
I am most grateful for your wisdom. I see now the error of my even THINKING of paying $18,1 plus Schwarzenegger's 8% for a moderately high-tech artichoke! TL it will be, and AMF (adios my friends) to Saab...
oddity
When they have 5,000 or 10,000 vehicles on the ground with miles in the 40/50k range then we will know for sure .. right now, it's just a dream - a pipe dream ............

I sold the car about one month ago for 30k to a very nice lady in NJ.
I am planning to buy a car after the summer(maybe 02 Cadillac Escalade), until then I won't bother you with question ,since you are so busy.
Thanks Terry!!

I thought about notifying whoever bought the thing. I *did* leave feedback on the Carfax website that I had personally crunched the truck back in '02. I think I'll check and see if my comments were posted.

Take a few minutes away from your keyboard and go spend some time in a Sorrento, Sonata, XG350 or Optima. While these examples might not fit your trend-setting lifesyles, use the exercise to look at them as objectively as possible. Build quality, fit & finish and warranty are really quite equal to many of the offerings they are competing with.
I think rotary kid summed it up the best...no mfr. has cornered the market on quality......
second, I'm not bashing 'em, I don't think Terry is bashing 'em.... I think what we are trying to say is they will need to prove themselves first, let's get some rolling past 50/60/70k and take a look at 'em, see how they are holding up, etc.... Its very difficult to change the direction of a corporation and/or product, they are trying and seem to be heading in the right direction, good for them and I wish them luck.... but it won't happen overnight.
It is important for those in the know to keep the facts and the opinions in the appropriate columns, and that is not a dig on anyone, as i am just as guilty as the next guy..
There is no question that you can support the H/K arguement with poor residuals and lane results, why even their own warranties do not condone transfer of ownership within the first few years. But, to not look at the product objectively b/c of past experiences or he said/she said stories does not benefit anyone. Anyone recall the VW of the late 80's through the mid 90's?
I own a 2002 Subaru Outback STD Wagon, and I'm debating whether to trade or sell privately. Problem is I'd prefer to break even or trade down on a used vehicle, and I don't see that happening with a dealer. Has anyone ever walked out of a dealership "with a check in hand"? The car I'm considering buying is listed at $16K (not a Subaru dealership). Here are the specs on my Outback:
Miles: 38,500
Color: navy blue exterior, dark gray interior
Optional Equipment: automatic transmission, single CD, power moonroof, alarm, auto dimming rear view mirror, remote starter (purchased for $200), balance of extended warranty (3/2008 or 60K miles)
Condition: all scheduled maintenance performed, oil changes every 3K miles, tires with 8K miles on them, no dents or major scratches, 2-inch portion of pinstriping gone (thank you, car wash), 60% highway miles, interior is in excellent shape aside from a scratch near the shifter (thank you, Circuit City).

I've never purchased a user car, and I've never sold a car privately, so I'd appreciate some guidance as I venture into new territory. I think I'd get a better price on my AWD Outback in the late fall or winter with our winters. My gut's telling me it would be better to sell privately, but I don't know how much of a hassle it really is. Any tips or advice? Thanks in advance! This is a great board.
For a lark, please try this one.. it's the one my wife used to bag a deer last october...frame damage... i sold the wreck and would love to know what become of it...

"Have any of you actually looked/driven one lately or do you keep refering to the '86 Exel on blocks in your neighbors front yard?"
"Take a few minutes away from your keyboard and go spend some time in a Sorrento, Sonata, XG350 or Optima."
I have, and these are the vehicles that are currently involved in litigation for lemon law or breach of warranty and that I see with the "buyback" and "no warranty" stickers at the auctions.
The vehicles I see at auctions weekly and Terry sees daily are nearly new, one or two year old vehicles, not '86s, thank you.
We're professional appraisers who are in the real world TODAY, not stuck in a space/time continuum from when Billy Idol and a Flock of Seagulls were still in the pop charts...
Yep, its an '03, sorry. Private seller, he's asking $34,900
Yes...I recall VW of the late 80s thru mid 90s....they were building utter crap....fast forward to today, and lo and behold, they're still building utter crap, although it is far more attractive crap.....and they say you can't polish a turd!
Terry.
So at least the guy is in the proper zipcode, some of these guys are in the "tree's" with their asking prices .. he was probably offered $32ish on a trade and feels he can do better on the street, you can't blame him .. offer him $33,9 then go from there ....
There not distressed merchandise and there doing strong $$ at the auctions and this one has Itsy Bitsy miles .....
Let me know .......
Terry.
I respect their opinion. We ( at least I ) base my opinion on our (my) vehicle. My 2003 Sorento EX 4X4 has 18k plus miles with zero problems so far. Does that mean it will continue? Nobody knows.
Terry and drift want to see lots of proof of reliability over an extended period of time before they change their opinion. That's fair enough. So relax. :-)
