    .......... Whoa, thats a biggie ..! .. anyone hurt.?

** It is a lease anything special I need to do **

Yep, get yourself a nice rental car and kick back for the next 4/6 weeks ... whats it worth.? .. it's all going to depend on the body shop and the "finished" product, sounds like a cradle and up rebuild .. this is going to be one a few things that a lease is good for, no matter what happens you can drive it and kick the keys back to the dealer at the end of the lease ...

                                            Terry.

........... It will also depend on the finished product and how it looks ..

Lots of dealers have been dropping the body/tire/wheel/color changes to these PT's, some are nice, some are goofy as heck and without actually seeing it, it's hard to say ...

I just saw one at the auction with the neon blue paint, painted silver flames on the front molded hood, scoops, molded running boards, stretched doors, roll pan in the back, the 18"s. leather sculpted seats, an excellent and pro job all the way around (probably $3,500 spent would be my guess) it actually kinda maybe almost looked nice, kinda .. everyone looked, everyone thought "hmm, interesting, kinda different" and with only 9k on a 03 Limited it hardly made the $11,0 figure and the conservative types with 10/15k weren't doing any real money either, just shy of $11,5 ..

Depending on the color, how radical the extra stuff is, dealers get a little hinky on putting any "real money" in any type of the "fast and the furry types" because they're hard to sell ..... 02 Limited with 22k short miles.? .. trade side, in and around the high $9's, low low low low low low $10's depending on how it looks .. down Retail Rd, $12,495 *asking* and cut it loose at the first $11/$12 ...

Thinking of trading or selling our van. Just dont know what the fair price would be.

    Color:White
Dark Gray Leather seats, heated. Super Clean interior, no stains or spills whatsoever.
    Mileage: 26,000 (today)
No outside marks, shiny paint no exterior blemishes present.

Dealer options, Luggage rack, Cargo Tray, Full Odyssey bra.

    Now to the good stuff.
    Audio/Entertainment system.

I have a full Pioneer system in the vehicle. To include. One flip out headunit monitor, including DVD navigation, XM radio, Video inputs, etc. I have 4- 6.5 inch headrest monitors installed into leather. 4 wireless headsets, and a switcher that allows for PS2 or other system on the go gaming, PLUS the switcher allows each screan to run independently and everyone can do something differently...all while we dont have to hear a thing. You can run XM radio, navigation and a DVD or Game all at the same time. I also have a 10 inch kicker subwolfer in a custom bandbass box, and an amplifier to back it up. All interior speakers where upgrades to top line Pioneer as well. The install is very clean, and all the Honda seats work as they should. i.e center row seating still can move from captians to bench and rear bench can still fold down. Totally a custom install done on this one.

As of tuesday this next week I will also have the entire woodgrain kit installed in the van as well. This is garaged most of the time, and especially during the one snow season weve been here. We originally purchased this vehicle in CA in 2002. We moved to IL just before last winter, and bought a Rodeo so the Ody could stay in the garage. :) ALSO...I am religous on maintance schedules, and have all HONDA receipts for this. Oil changed every 3 months with out a doubt also by honda only.

Anyhow, any feed back anyone could get me would be greatly appreciated. This is defianately not your average mini van, and this is why I need help in figuring a fair for all parties price.

    THANKS again,
    Lee

..... ** As of tuesday this next week I will also have the entire woodgrain kit installed in the van as well **

Boomer boxes and woodgrain kits are great for the South Beach area and LA, but it gets you -0- in the Land of Lincoln ..

Why anyone would pay to put plastic wood in any vehicle, especially one you are trying to sell, is beyond me. Carry on :)

    ..... Good morning Lee ...

** As of Tuesday this next week I will also have the entire woodgrain kit installed in the van as well **

Boomer boxes, big tunes and woodgrain kits are great for South Beach and the LA area, but it gets you -0- in the Land of Lincoln .. will it help you sell it faster.? no doubt, but your lookin' at .10cts on the dollar, if that. They're like Nav systems, $2,000 spent and "maybe" $500 at trade time depending on the vehicle ...

The real deal here is, it's a 02 EX-L with 26k, right color anywhere and grey guts, we have the Disney package, you say it's clean and garaged with no hits and no paint by numbers ... trade side, in and around the mid/tall $19's low low $20ish figure, maybe .. down Retail Rd, wonderful Ad, great detail $22,900 *asking* and off it goes for $21,9/$22,5 .. Illinois has tax difference, right.?

                                          Terry.
  • espinosa24espinosa24 Member Posts: 3
Considering I got the wood grain kit for free from my dealer, thats all well and fine to me.

I have actually thought about taking the vehicle back to CA, where I understand the market. I know in CA I could pull in a number higher to include my entire system. I am not too worried about the price I paid for it versus what may get for it, I gotten its worth and then some from this van. My thing is that I am looking for the highest overall cost considering I have a 16G payoff on this puppy. I am looking to take the least amount out of my pocket for a new vehicle.

And to boot, I have gotten a trade number from the salesman here in the mid 20's range...and gotten a laugh at what a comparable Grand caravan would bring to them. Tisk, Tisk, poor Damlier Chrysler Owners!!

Anyhow, thanks Terry, I will definately keep everyone update on the adventure.

............. Will you pick up anymore from a California dealer.? could "maybe" see an extra $500/$700 on a real good day, the words being here is: I would think so .. could you pick up an extra $700/$1,200 more on the Retail Side.? probably so .. but you hafta figure transport, fuel, Ad's -time- stuff like that ...... $16 owed.? your in a great position, most folks owe $25,0 on their $20,0 rigs and that has nothing to do with Chrysler, Benz, Ford, Lexus, etc, etc .l.o.l...................... ;)

Personally, I'd put the woodgrain kit on eBay, with the starting bid at $20 and no reserve, I think you'll do better that way.

No sliders available on the Gen I CR-Vs.. They didn't become available until Gen II in '02 and then only on the EX.

Just an FYI, since I owned both models.

We went ahead and made the swap - Santa Fe for MPV. So, how'd we do?

    jaserb Jul 22, 2004 12:02pm

We got $11,600 for the Santa Fe, and got the new MPV for $17615+State TTL, a $49 Credit Report fee and a $399 Dealer Doc fee. Steep doc fees I know, but the deal seemed pretty good to me anyway. KBB said $10,800 for trade, Edmunds said $11,200. Maybe they gave me extra for all the cheerios between the seats. Between the $1500 or so I'd need to do the 60k service (T-belt, plugs, tranny flush, tires) on the Santa Fe and the $725 I saved on sales tax it was worth my while to trade it in.

We really weren't planning on a new car, but according to KBB that's $1763 BELOW invoice, even after rebates.

And the wifey likes her pretty new silver van ;-)

This is a repost of 20681 (and sorta 20630 too).
    **********************************

I was interested in Jiten's Maxima query because I have that exact car, even the same mileage, within a coupla K's. So let me spec mine, maybe Jiten could adapt if nec.

2000 Maxima SE (moonroof, spoiler, etc)
lives in a heated garage in Chicago
    Dark Green ext/tan leather int
    auto
    45K miles
single CD player w/Bose (not a multichanger)

Shape? better than rough for sure, prob avg.
    Brakes redone
    Gone through two Chicago winters
Interior floor mats one step north of crap, carpet's a little better
typical parallel parking dings you would expect, plus a couple of bigger items
    1. Replaced driver's side window, and the rep window is a little irritating on the ears going up and down
    2. In a full-throttle genius move, I backed into a light pole at the parking lot of a BK by the interstate in Rock Falls, Illinois. I was hoping they could just straighten out the bumper, but the body shop bill ended up bein 4 gees. F'in body work. Well, I guess it was the insurance company's prob for most of it. I'm sure the frame is fine.

    jsalsman,

I don't know ANYTHING about the value of these 2 vehicles. But giving Terry the mileage of the Ford truck, & the trans. & engine of the GLX will probably help.

But, it sounds like you're not particularly in love with this F-150, & don't like the dealer much either. I'd just walk, & keep shopping.

I keep wondering if, or when, high gas prices will weaken the resale of full size trucks & SUV's? It would seem like more people would be interested in trading those for an economy car now, than the other way around(?) Maybe that can work in your favor at some point.

I also don't know what it's like trying to trade an import in at a Ford dealer--but it doesn't sound like the place to get the best price for your GLX. I do remember the early 70's oil crisis tho, when people were practically giving away domestic V-8's in order to buy little economy cars.......

Don't get too hung up on the fact that they may be trying to take advantage of you because you're a woman. A lot of the sleezier car dealers live to take advantage of EVERYONE. And some of them won't give you a good deal no matter what. There's gotta be a lot of Ford trucks for sale in Calif......just take your time & do your homework, & when you finally get a great deal on the right mint condition truck, honk & wave every time you go past this dealer. Just my 2 cents, good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. The engine didn't get hit but everything in front of it got whacked pretty hard. All I had was a dislocated thumb the other driver was not seriously hurt (concussion, busted nose by airbag). So even though there was a lot of damage no one got seriously harmed.

00 SE with 45k, it's in that Polo/Hunter/dark no sale green color with the tan guts .. we have the Bozo sound, slider, spoiler, "Interior floor mats one step north of crap" (I love an honest person) and it sounds like you had a little food fight at the local Burger King, and they won (you should've never asked to kick the mayo) ..... 4 big ones huh.? .. it will depend on how it looks, as silly as this sounds, that pea pea poo poo green doesn't match up too well, this will a "guesstamation" - trade side, in and around the tall $8's to the mid/tall $11's .... the miles save it, I hope ........................... ;)

and you almost made me wet my pants laughing! Actually the miles were at 49,976 when we traded it. The thing stickered for $22k new, we paid less than $20k, and it's due for $1.5k or so in tires, T-belt, plugs, etc., not to mention it needs a detail pretty badly. Heck, it's still covered in bugs from our trip to AZ last month! I was pretty surprised when he hit it at $11k, he then went up to $11,6 without much prodding. I grabbed it before he could change his mind!

The wife (only 1, I promise!) really likes it - I think the MPV is really underrated, which means great deals for those of us who like them.

Now, back to lurking...thanks for informing and entertaining all us car nuts.

He probably paid the low/mid $10's for the 15kers and the tall $10's low low low $11's for the 8/9k beauties ... what are they asking .?

I need to sell a 2002 Grey Neon SE with automatic transmission and 30,000 miles. In Minnesota. Original tires, no dings nor major defects. but not pristine either. Just an Ok "appliance car". What would be a fair private party price and what might I get at auction? I want to get rid of it in the next couple of months
    thanks

"IF" it's knee deep in rubber, service is 100%, no Martha Stewart sad stories .. then trade/auction side, in and around the tall $4's low low $5's ... down the winding path to Retail Rd, a super detail, a Glorious Ad and $7,495 *asking* and cut that puppy loose at the first $6,5/$6,9 ... remember, it's a Do Je' Leon not a Maurice Lacroix watch, get what you can upfront and fight for the rest ........... ;)

You hit it pretty well. My roommate is this dealership's IT guy and he says they paid exactly what you said they did. (Reason I asked you is I wondered if that was really true...I mean, I like my roommate, but he's IT, not sales, ya know?)

They're "asking" 12988 for the low milers and 13988 for the ones <10k miles. Hahhahahahhahaha. I guess they can ask anything. From what roommie tells me, they'll go for cost + $100 doc fee + $100 transport + whatever the salesperson can get. Sell it and get it out. It's a fairly large dealership for this neck of the woods. Total inventory today is 370 vehicles (and only 78 of those are used...man oh man, that has got to be a nice floorplan check to cut every month).

As always, thanks for the advice.

    Hi again!

It's me - 2003 Nissan Xterra XE V6 Los Angeles - Trying to get out of my lease due to relocation.....

After not much success with trying to sell my vehicle privately, I decided to take it into CarMAX.

They are offering me a pretty low price which will leave me at a loss of $3700. I'm moving in 2 weeks, so if I have to take it, I will, however I wanted to run it by CARMAN first to see if there's anything else I should know.

Keeping the car is not an option.....and I'm running out of time to wait to sell it privately.

Any suggestions, etc. would be helpful.

    THANKS!!!

Hi Terry. It's been a long while since I have visited... looks like not much has changed around here :)

I need a trade-in & private party value for my friend's car which he wants to get rid of so he can have lower payments.

    Details:

     - Black Exterior
     - Gray Cloth interior
     - Automatic
     - 94,000 miles ( ouch, I know)
     - Bose stereo system
     - NO sunroof, NO ABS etc.
     - Needs an interior/exterior detailing, but no "major" scratches or stains.
     - Tires have been replaced within the last 10,000 miles
     - Philly area

Thanks in advance for your advice!

........ Hey Imp, how goes the race.? - the human race that is ...

Black 99 SE with (cough) 94,000 Itsy bitsy miles .. itsy bitsy if you live in France, thats cuz' they're always driving around lookin' for their courage ... no slider, no abs, no hydes, we have the Bozo sound, auto, rubber is semi-new and it needs an 18 wheeler wash .. based on your description, he's lookin' at the super tall $5's low $6's, "might" "maybe" get reeeaall lucky and get a dealer to stagger towards $7, but the miles are killing him in that Nittany Lion area, so I would think $6,5 would just Flat Kill it from some brave soul .... down Retail Rd, finish any service, complete clean to the bone detail, a wonderful 5 liner ad in the "Big" paper and find a great spot, $8,495 *asking* and send it south for the first $7,5/$7,9 .........

                            Let me know .......... ;)

......... Another poster from Austin .. you guys are like migrant workers, one week everyone is from Philly, the next week everyone is from Utah .....

Anyway, sounds like a nice one .. right color, super loooow miles, it's an LS with all the stuff and you say the condition is pretty darn good ... trade side, in and around the mid/tall $11's, "might" find a dealer to step on his peepee and drop $12 in it .....

Go Lance Go.! .. I would hope so, but the French papers have him doing drugs and beating up little old ladies in the villages ~ gheez, they can't win wars and they don't do sports, they should just surrender on general principle and we can make them another State, kinda like Alaska - "Mosuer, would you like a little whiiine with that cheese" ..l.o.l...

1998 Ford Escort ZX2 - okay don't laugh - 2D Hot Coupe, Manual, A/C (but blows hot!); Am/fm/cassette; after-market 12 disc changer; cruise control; tilt wheel; remote entry (not power locks); power steering; 109k miles; two previous accidents - front end - repaired very well; paint decent, some scratches though; glass in good shape; probably needs new tires & brake pads.
Looking to sell it to Carmax for cash, not trade-in?

                   ==========================================

I'm laughing I'm laughing .. whats this heep worth.? .. it's a 98, it blows hot air, it's a handshaker, it's a coupe, it's got 110 klicks, it needs new stoppers, rubber and it's been used as target practice (twice) by the al-Qaeda .... other than that, it's like: Brand New.! .. I dunno, $500/$900.?

OK Terry ...I am still looking around for a new (to me) ride and I think I have come down on wanting a GS 430. I like the 300 OK but I figure if I am going in to Lexus Land then I should go in big. I am in the market for a 2001 GS430 that is Lexus Certified with "whatever" miles and "whatever" options. (But I would really like the ML/Nav package.) What ballpark do you think I will be in? The 430s are scarce at the Lex dealer here in Tulsa... but several 300s.
    Thoughts?

                        ==========================

Actually I try not to think .... Great vehicles, I have always liked the GS (for me) I never had a problem with the V6 300 as far as performance, or in my case "jumping" onto I95 in pronto speed .. the GS430 is also very cool and I have had 15ish of them, so whatever one you pick should be a great vehicle because they don't break, you don't have to visit with the service dept and you won't have to put Heinrich, Metzger or Ludwig on your Christmas shopping list ... super nice super clean 01 GS300's with miles in the 15/25k range are seeing the $23ish range with all the stuff and dealers are seeing the $26/$27+ range .. 01 GS430's with short miles and all the stuff are doing the $26ish range and I'm sure dealers are seeing the strong $29ish+ zipcode, can't get em' can't find em' ........ what are they asking.?

I had a good chuckle last night. Hubby told his friend that we just bought that new Focus. Guy was a little miffed, said we should have bought his car, he would have made us a *great deal* on it, just wanted what he owed.

Its that 2002 Cavalier 2 dr base, auto, a/c, 60k, silver/gray, cracked front bumper. He *only* wants $7k for it. Hmmmmm, somehow I think the Focus was a better *deal*.

    1989 Honda : CRX SI -- History: 0 bids ....... I'm amazed, no bids .? .l.o.l..

             2003 Audi : A6 4.2 -- buy now Price: US $49,500.00 -

$49,500 ..?!? .. read the small print: ** This vehicle is on a lease and so I will need payment in full either by another bank or in cash so that I can pay off current lease holder **

Translation: I'm buried up to my eyeballs and I can't get up ~ will someone takeover my stupidity.?

It's a $31/$32ish vehicle trade side and I'm sure someone would cut it from the herd for $36/$37,0 on the retail side -- $49,500 ..?? .. has someone mentioned to this fine gentleman that a "mind is a terrible thing to waste" ~ and snorting Liquid Plumber on a daily basis is NOT a good thing ...................... ;)

We have someone looking to trade or sell a 94 Crappy-lier.

    94 Cavalier RS
    127K
    3.1L V6
    3 spd Automatic
    Cassette, Cruise, ABS, PW,PL
    Condition:
A/C works, but not super ice cold
    Big crack in windshield
Drivers side passenger door, 1"x3" rust starting at edge.
Rear fenders, rust and paint peeling around the wheel well.
Significant signs of underbody rust all over.
    Tires: maybe 50% tread.
Paint: some fade on top and hood, but should buff out.
Rides and drives: well like it has 100K, Engine and tranny run and shift good, suspension is showing its age.
Does not look like it has been in an accident, but we did not look really close.
Parked in N.E. Indiana, not too far from Michigan and we do get almost as much salt usage down here.

Girl wants to trade, just got a job out of college, but took more than 15 months to get job so student loans are behind and showing up on credit report. She insists its worth $1,000 on trade, boss says $250 max due to condition and miles. I agreed to see about getting a second opinion for her. What say the all-knowing on trade and retail side as she sits.

Forgot to mention, she either needs to trade it or have the windshield replaced because her insurance company won't insure it with the cracked windshield, which will put her in the high risk carriers due to a couple of moving violations. Estimate to replace windshield, $268 and she does not have the cash yet due to just getting a job.

Yup we did. I tried to talk hubby into buying that 2000 Contour SVT but he wasn't having any part of it.

We looked around briefly at the used offerings on the Focus, they were all hanging in the $11k range with 8/15/20k on them. Bought this one new for $11k. Cool thing about this car is, if I get sick of it, he'll drive it, he loves it.

trade side, if the body is clean and solid should bring $450-$550, retail side, she could part quickly with it with a good 5-liner and a price of $1300-$1500.

Interesting. She has had it in the paper for $1500 for 2 months since the insurance company gave her until July 31st to get the windshield fixed. One call, no offers.

She did try and trade it at a couple of "regular" dealers and they offered her $100 and $200 for it. Said they would have to take it to auction and only expect to get $500 at the auction, less the costs to get it there and auction fees. I'm not doubting that it might be worth around $1,000 private party (but it needs a windshield to be legal) and needs some suspension work (alignment or shock/struts) to ride decent, but it simply does not show or drive very well as it sits.
