But worst case, your buddy pays 9 or 10K for this thing, & in 5 years it's still worth, what, $5K? How can you beat that?
Too bad you can't find a lower mileage one. I think you can purchase an ext. warranty from Chrysler if the vehicle is still under warranty (don't know if you have to buy the vehicle from a Chrysler dealer). Wasn't that expensive when I last looked into it.
Does it have alloy wheels? Those Cherokees can look pretty sharp, & probably "go anywhere".

**The lady tried to tell me that they could sell it for $7500 all day long in the spring** .... true story, but it's not spring, you need to be on the hunt from October thru March/April - do you know what yankee dealers like about these come winter.? -- nothin'.!

Its been parked in the garage for months.

If you buy it now and don't overpay, you can figure on losing "about" 20% per year, compounded annually, if the car stays in good condition. So, if you paid $35k for a car, it would lose $7k in the first year and be worth $28k. The second year, it would lose $5600 and be worth $22400, give or take... To keep a Jag in good condition, you will have to keep up with the maintenance and repairs, which may also be taxing on your wallet. Don't add sales tax on the selling price (e.g. $35k), it's a sunk cost.
We looked at new ones today, looking at $11,200 OTD on a Jayco Eagle 10SG no water heater, just the usual stuff, heater and all.
Its fall time and the dealers are gettin' hungry, if nothing else we are headed to Yellowstone in the spring and can buy in the states.
Am I in the ballpark?

I know the miles hurt....
Thanks!
1995-1996 Lexus GS300 - RWD, nice, reliable, they guzzle gas though
1996-1998-ish Infiniti Q45
maybe even a G20t .. 1999 or so.
Good color, easy to sell, assuming an automatic? Trade side is around $4,800-5,200, retail, clean it up purty and ask $7,995 - the miles step in front of your ego, let it go for the first $6,800-7,200...
Read post #20851 in case you're relying on the books as the gospel when picking your numbers.
Just sorry the Mazda 3 wasn't outlast year, I would've prefered it hands down.

We have a 7-year old Honda with 113k, and you think it'll do $5 on trade?
It may well, these have always been extremely strong; they're on my "buy new or forget it" list.
Don't people understand that it's stupid to pay $7 retail for a car with that age and mileage? It's like those darned fs pickup trucks that people ask $7,900 for when they're ten years old with 130k...

And people will pay silly money for anything with a Honda badge - proven many times over.

If you look for EXs, then you know they will be AWD... A little more money, but worth it for the standard CD player and alloy wheels.

very clean and shiny in/out, everything works, no tears in the seats. body excellent but for a 2" dent above the nissan emblem on the trunk, and a scuffed up rear bumper from parking.

This is a great service. Thanks in advance!
You said mid 17's to low 18's for my 2003 mini cooper, indi blue, all three packages (cold weather, premium, sport) -- a great ride but small for me -- 20,800 miles. I currently owe 15,155.22
I was shooting for a 3 series but...
The car: New 2004 Passat 4motion, 1.8t, Tiptronic, Cold Weather package, Telemetrics, dealer added wood trim package (hoping I don't regret that -- it was on the car). Black with anthracite interior. The list price 28 and change.
The deal:
Out the door at 22,306 out of me (payoff of Mini is included, of course). Contract is signed, pick up the car on Monday.
Hard to tell how well I did -- Edmunds TMV was about 27 and change. I don't think it's a sterling deal (never is in hind sight) but it was low pressure. I think if I'd have went hard nosed I could have done it at 20,000 (I always think that when it's too easy) but it was close enough for me.
Currently in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73102.
How much should I get for this truck?
In my neck of the woods, anyway, the five speeds are a slug to sell both as new and used. Add the LX to that and you have a hard to move unit.
Still, someone will grab it.
MSRP is $30250 and they will offer me $7900 for my $5500 trade-in($2400 above Kelly BB).
When I ask for a lower price on the Dakota, say the PMV of $27,900, the say they can only give me the trade-in value of $5500. Now I can see that the larger trade-in amount looks better to a bank for down payment purposes, but am I being hosed? Is it really 6 of 1 and a half dozen of the other? Should I take his offer of $7900 on the trade-in elsewhere? Can I do Better?
Thanks.

Here's where I need the advise. My wife's Suburban is a 1999 LT 4x4, white, "K1500"-type with the Marketing Package (Southern Calif)with 91K miles, it has heaters everywhere ( mirrors, buns. etc) Tan leather, 3rd seat, rear air, all power, CD, alarm, towing, etc - decent rubber, blows cold, etc. The bad news - my wife kissed a Toyota on the freeway 3 years ago to the tune of $8K worth of work. Had it done at the best possible shop - but it is what it is.... Reading the posts, I'm guessing a private divorce is worth $13 ?? and if I expect a dealer to do the act, I'm looking $10-ish?? Am I close?
To replace it....
I'm looking at the heavy deals on a Denali or Denali XL ( except they look like they have "design by Pontiac cartoonists" all over it) I like the power pack and brakes they come with mainly.
An alternative would be a 3 year old Lexus LX430 on the theory they both will end up lasting another 6 years or so and the Lexus may blow up less than the GMC.
Another thought is to buy the wife a new DC T&C and just get a used 3/4T Extra Cab P/U to tow the boat. I figure a 3 or 4 year old Dodge or Chevy. This may cost more but provide more utility.
What is going to be the least painful on the wallet and keep me away from hydraulic lifts and NAPA parts?
As dealers (or those of you who SHOULD be dealers -- and you know who you are!) I am curious as to the path of lowest pain from that point of view. Is there a sweet spot here?
BTW - Just my .02, but y'all with the CCB deal in your life. You don't need to fix it if your wallet and your husband/wife/partner isn't looking to slip some anti-freeze in your drinks -- BUT this is as close to needing a 12 step as any other compulsive behavior I've ever seen. I would miss Jolie's stories (and the rest of you helping poor hard working dealers make their boat payments) but compulsive is compulsive whether you're snorting, smoking, drinking, or signing it.
Hey, I call it as I see it.
I do enjoy reading it, though.
Your advise - from your side - on my next car choices are appreciated.
Mike
for the same level of price vs. equipment, i would go with a loaded nissan armada LE. (nav, DVD, digital climate, etc...
ask jolie about her titan. the underpinnings, dash, and powertrain are the same.
Please help with fair auction/dealer price for:
2002 Lexus LS430(Chicago):
Silver/gray leather
NAV/ML package
Car has 14K miles and asking price is $43,500
Thanks in advance,
drpob
Check out the Armada and/or the Titan threads BEFORE hand. Then decide............
Good points, I just can't get over the unseemly appearance (OK, ugly appearance) of the Armada and the Infiniti variant.
Do you think the prices go toe to toe?
The last Consumers Report, etc seem to give the GM stuff high marks for initial quality, and our Sub has been pretty good. They just seem to have a time bomb that goes off at 110K. If you don't get a clue from the first little explosions I hear the transmission can give you the kiss of death around that time. Of course the 99 brakes are better sized for a Red Ryder wagon, and the power is under whelming, but it has stayed together and has not nickeled and dimed us even a little. I think the market perception may be 5 years behind reality.
My .02.....
Mike
I see quite a ground swell of support for the new full size Nissan ( and Infiniti) SUV offerings on the boards. People are putting them right up there with the 'Slade, the Denali and the Navigator. Maybe they are there - I dunno. Nissan used to have serious quality problems but the latest "G" offerings, the Altima, the Maxima seem OK.
I guess it typifies quirky japanese styling to me which means "get real motivated" and look past the design and appearance -- which is hard to do when you're north of 40 large.
IMHO
Mike
prices for the armada are actually a few thousand less than comparable denalis, expies, and sequoias.
the loaded 4x4 LE with all the buttons tops out at $46970. it only goes higher if you put accessories. this includes DVD system, nav system, leather, memory seats, and GOBS AND GOBS of POWER...
drive one. you wont care what it looks like afterwards. i didnt. they have grown on me ever since i first drove one.
also, a few hundred over invoice is an attainable price, along with either $1000 rebate or 2% up to 60 months.
Thanks
Mike
