Your lookin' for $10 grand.? .. with 100k.? .. I'm lookin' to win the $100 million dollar lottery, but that ain't going to happen .l.o.l.. .. we have a rebuilt tranny and the paint needs a little work - but, $8,200 is a little on the weak side, even for an import dealer and $9,500 would flat put it on the moon .... so, somewhere between here and there you guys should meet-up .... if it's CLEAN ....
$10 large ...? .. I dunno, maybe in Croatia .........
Terry ;-)
OTOH, I did help one of the guys at the fire station get a good deal on a truck.......didn't have to do much, just put him in touch with my ford salesman and hook him up with Edmunds. He thought the price to pay was MSRP, I edumacated him and he got a great deal on his first new truck. I'm just glad he listened to me, not the guy who paid over MSRP for a Jetta TDI and bought mop & glo and the extended warranty in the F&I office.
Loaded (8 Passenger, DVD, Power Door, Power Seat, "Sport", Folding 3rd row, 2-tone). Dark blue w/ grey cloth interior.
Good interior/exterior condition (kid-used, but pretty clean). Good brakes, new tires.
Boston area.
What's this bad boy worth today? Trying to figure out of the dealer is pumping up the trade to overcharge for the car or what ... He's offering 11,200 but the new car looks like it's an east $1k over what I think it could be bought for if I didn't have a trade... Crazy or??
Thanks!
Dan
The trade in plan has been shot down. The E39 is too good a car to trade in for a Z4. The Z4's long term reliability is still a question mark.
The problem we have is that I have a very short commute. We already have two cars so getting a newer third car does not make sense. The third car will be a leisure car with less than 5K miles/year.
Do you have any recommendation for a roadster to be used as the third car? We are looking for a car which we can keep for a "long time" (10 years plus) which is not too expensive to keep if driven less.
rubber is deep, maintenance is yesterday. we have warm breeze (in texas...ouch) and mother nature's been using it for target practice.
bad color for the location, but ok interior.
trade-in, you should expect the $400-$600 range if the interior is clean.
i would do a tip-top detail, run a solid 5-liner in the paper, and ask around $1500-$1700, and let it go for the first $900-$1200 that comes along.
also, please read driftracer's post #20851, this topic, for information on trading cars that are old/high mileage.
How much can I expect for a trade in at a dealership for my 98 Plymouth Voyager.
It's a grand Voyager with the Expresso trim line. 3.3 engine, dual air, power windows/locks & driver seat, cloth seats, captain's chairs (I bought 9/97). It is teal blue, with 97,000 miles on in. Cruise control, rear wiper and CD stereo, factory tinted windows. The AC blows real cold.
Everything is in good working condition and it has done it's job over the last 7 years.
It has a few dings from the kids bikes. Overall it still looks good from a visual standpoint.
Tires are fairly new, interior is okay. Has tune last month with new plugs etc.
I understand the dealer will send a car like this directly to the auction and I won't get much for this. Just don't want to give away.
Thanks

The trade route would get you a cheap wholesale number - have it clean up nicely and put an ad in the paper for $5995...take what you can get, and plunk the cashola down on that new RX-8!

Other option may be to trade our 99 Isuzu Rodeo LS with 74,000 miles, cruise, CD Player, cloth seats, power window/locks, interior and exterior I would rate fair to good. Tires are average.
What would you recommend? Both cars are paid off.
Thanks

These are nice drivers and in demand, especially in your area (by the way, there's no such thing as Clean to outstanding condition, unless your driving an 02 Porsche 911 with 5,800 miles and it glows in the dark) .. if we have the cold pack and all the toys, no curb burners, deep sneakers, no paint work, no K-Mart collisions, no Popeyes chicken in the seats and the service is from yesterday .. then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $24's, maybe the low low $25ish range if it's super nice ...........
Let me know ....!

Mazda Miata. You could probably even buy an older one and keep for ten years plus with minimal expense, if it was driven in a southern clime.
this is an import enthusiast's wet dream. dont even bother the dealers with it...i dont think most of them even have a clue.
ill let terry put a trade # on it, but ill look for it on ebay soon!
good luck and keep me posted!

Dan the Man in Beantown .. it's a DX3E model - LWB - right.? ... 01 Montana Sport (?), 8 pass, 31K short miles, we have that no-sale blue thing going on, new round things, we have the Disney package and the rock n' roll door ~ the miles save this one ......
$11,2 .? .. American money..? if thats "real money" than I would want to be there like yesterday .. Montana's have the resale value of dried dirt ..... tell me what your trading for (difference) let me back into the deal so I understand this one better ..... $11,2 ...? yeah, maybe in Honduras.
Terry.
Thats what I was thinkin.!
Like someone just said - Miata or a nice S2000 Honda, maybe a Solara these things run forever .. they can't give those Z4's away right now and the new "5's" aren't much behind them ..... it's your call.
Terry.
What happened to that hot date of yours tonight???
Thx for the #'s on the A6q; my buddy Andreas was shaking with mirth as he read your reply... smart kid, I didn't even have to translate... the good news is he's over it.
Sooooo.... he did the smart thing and got some info from various car nuts, then went test driving. Liked the '00 Maxima SE (V6 5sp 60k, nice) that was offered at $9 (good deal, no?) but preferred the Solaras. He's single and works 90 hours a week, so he's likely to stay that way....
Anyway, he decided it should be a V6, auto preferred, 5sp okay. Turns out there is one in the paper, private owner has a 2000 Solara SE, 63k, no-sale green, 5sp (!), no other info given, super duper special price of $11,7 since nobody bit at $12,2.
So another week or so will let him down gently, but what's it worth if it's nice? I'm thinking it's got to be $8,5 real money if it's all there, but I'm just the new guy...
We have the V6/4sp combination in the wife's Sienna. To my mind, that is one world-class engine!
TIA -Mathias
I'm looking to do a JOLIE...LOL!
Since Chevy is still doing awesome rebates, I want to unload my 2 cars for an "04 Chevy Tracker ZR2.
I spoke to the UCM at my local honda dealer a few days ago and he offered me $4300.00 for my '99 Civic DX hatch.
Exterior - a few small chips in front, otherwise no dents, dings or Kmarts.
Interior - perfect
Tires - excellent
Maintainance - upto date
Mileage - 74,4oo
Color - Silver
Tranny - manual 5spd ( I know, but it's fun)
It has A/C,p/s and factory stereo - is totally stock
What's a good number for 'Retail Road'?
Car#2 - '02 Cavalier LS coupe
Car is silver, has auto, electric sunroof, CD amplified 6 speakers(factory), 23K miles.
Exterior, a few stone chips in front-otherwise excellent
Interior- mint; tires - excellent
Maintenance is up to date
What trade-in # can I expect at a Chevy dealer for the 'o4 Zr2 Tracker?
I'm in Central jersey - I might consider going to Easton, Pa to buy the Tracker...just a thought

Every once in awhile our boy Bowke wakes up, wipes the crayons off his forehead and smells the coffee ... these silly little uncomfortable skateboards -still- get all the cookies in the cookie jar, especially SH's ...
Right color, no miles, a few little kisses here and there, I'm sure it's not puuuurfect, but a wonderful detail, perhaps a little visit to Dr. Dent, finish any service - and Wango Tango your off and running .. most dealers won't know what to do with this slickster, you might see the $12's, you might even see the low/mid $13's for it .......
No doubt about, down Retail Rd it goes ~ Superb fat daddy 5 liner Ad in the biggest paper in the "hood", all the service stuff hanging from the mirror, $17,900 *asking* and snap-crackle-pop off it goes for the first $16,5/$17,5 .... if you do this right you won't have it a week/10days .. can't get em', can't find em' with short miles, seen dealers pay $13 for 00's with 60k ......... $25...? It's only in Bowkes dreams ..........
Have fun and don't forget to let me know, or I'll send the posse after ya ...................

But anywaaaay ..... the Maxima SE sounds nice, the Solara SE is probably right on the $$ .....

As in, the seller is correct to ask $11,7 retail dollars,
...or I'm correct it's "at least" $8,5 wholesale dollars?
I reckon my # is off base... good thing I kept my day job...

My super $11,200 goes towards my new Odyssey 2yr lease deal @ 26,645 Cap Cost ($28,240 List, $25k invoice). The Ody deal is great (.00089MF, 68% Resid - drive it and dump it)
I received a quote from anothe dealer online for $25k with no trade to worry about, but also think that same dealer would give me a whole lot less than 11,200 for the Montana ... question is, how much less?
Basically wondering if I'm getting hosed by the $26,645 dealer who'se offering $11,200 ... ...

Good description, thanks .....
Trackers should be bought for about invoice minus any rebate monies ... $4,300 for the DX.? sounds about right, we have 73k, it's a DX, it's silver, we have deep sneakers, handshaker, cold breeze, it's a DX, clean interior, minor on the outside, ps and tunes and the service is right, did I mention it's a DX.?
Dealers don't have a home for these, spend a few bucks and get a great Ad, spend a few bucks and get a super duper detail and have all the service records hangin' off the ceiling .. $6,900 *asking* and drop-kick this dude at the first $5,9/$6,5 ..... did I mention spend a few bucks.?
Cavs are a dime a dozen .. (not a sport, right.?) miles are low, slider, auto, tunes, all in all it sounds pretty nice .. trade side, in and around the tall $5's low $6's .....

Aaah, it's a lease.! .. so, let me just say this: ARE YOU NUTS ...?!?!
The problem with leases is most folks don't, or won't know what they receive in trade ~ but there's an easy way to rectify that ....
If your going to lease "any" vehicle, you should be putting down (total) maybe the first and the last payment/security and maybe the $50/$75 in title work, or - maybe nothing at all depending on the vehicle, remember ~ your only "renting" this dude for the next 24 months, not adopting it ...
Whether the dealer gives you $11,200 or $6,500 for the trade, it does Nothing, less than 1, nada, -0- to help your situation .. it will accomplish one thing and One thing Only - it lowers your payment, thats it.! .. it doesn't effect the residual, the future pay-off, the value, the barometric pressure in Spain or the TV ratings of Emerils great cooking shows .... if the Ody is stolen in a 12 weeks or in 20 minutes, that $10/$11,0 has evaporated the day you drove it over the curb, it's Gone, History, you might as well give that money to the Charley Manson fan club ...
If you want to know what the vehicle is really worth (to the dealer) then structure the lease with approx $1,000 out of pocket (2 separate entities) *then* see what the dealer will give you in CASH, real money, for the Tana' ... you still didn't tell me what model this is, but I'm thinkin' it's worth "around" the $10ish figure ....... don't make me come over there and slap ya upside your head.!
Terry.
I hear ya - no $$$ down on the new van, it's purely tax/doc fees. This is a "one price" store where, legend has it, they never move on price.
The trade in $$ goes to payoff the note on the Montana, the balance (like $200) goes towards the reg/doc fees.
If the Montana (1SJ w/ Video if I recall..) is worth $10k, and they're offering $11,200 then it's a good deal for me. It makes the real "cost" of the Ody isn't the $26,645 they're asking for, but more like $25,500 - a price I can live with. If the Montana is worth more, then I'm getting hosed and need to back out of the deal.
Thanks!!
Dan

A newspaper reporter wonders: For those who decided to dump your paid-for older vehicle and buy a new (or newer) one, why'd you do it? Were the repairs costing more than a monthly payment? Were you afraid of being stranded by another breakdown? Did you fear for your life because the vehicle was unsafe?
After biting the bullet and buying a new/newer vehicle, was it worth the cost, considering what you paid up front, your monthly payments and depreciation?
Bottom line question, was peace of mind more important than budgetary considerations?

I think Terry is saying that your Montana is worth considerably less than $11,200, so maybe they are padding your deal a little to show more for your trade. If he says the Montana is worth about $10K ACV, then I'd say you have a good deal on the Odyssey, because the rest of the lease terms are fantastic right now.

Anyway .... it's a DX13, it's a LWB 8 pass with the Disney package, not a Sport ..
If it's super clean, glows in the dark, interior has been "hovered" in, waaay deep in rubber, no Texas Chain saw massacres, no repaints, front line ready, needs -0-, then a dealer could "might" "maybe" drop $11,2 in it, but the Galves book would hold it back .. the pay-off part raised it's ugly head, I should have caught it before ...... no matter what, your getting a good deal -with- little or no money down ......

2001 Z3 2.5 6 cyl., 20,449 Miles, auto. trans., CD, bun warmers, tan leather, ruby red, power everything inc. the top, central Mass. Looks like it might have upgraded Wheels? (I don't know Z3 options that well).
1. What do you think it's worth, wholesale & retail? I don't "need" the car, so I'm willing to make a lowish offer. (And Winter is coming--if it doesn't sell by Oct......)
2. How does the auto. trans. affect the value of this car? Personally, I think I'd prefer a stick in a car like this, but like I said the low miles & apparent condition have me intrigued--there's always something to compromise on in a used car.
3. How many people (if any) think these are "chick cars"? I was sceptical of the Z3 at first ("retro" styling & all), but they've kind of grown on me. I'm thinking it might be a fun car to own for a year or 2 & less expensive to buy & maintain than a Boxster.
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

The old man is firing this one down retail road, I asked him what the dealer offered him on trade and he said, "son, what the dealer would offer me for this piece wouldn't even put a new set of tires on her, so I didn't even ask".
The problem is they think someone is going to give them $6,500-$7,000 for it, I'd like to be able to tell them about this guy Terry and his funny ideas about cars...

this is like telling a car salesman "show me a white car with seats in it."
he will need color, inside and out...outside condition, including minor scrapes, and painted/buffed/repaired/replaced body parts, inside condition, including burn holes, old sucker sticks, tera, rips, stains, smells (dog).
he will also need to know what part of the country you are in. give him a city and state for accuracy.
keep this in mind:
the edmunds/kbb/nada numbers are too easy. thats why they are most often wrong. terry will give you a number closer than anyone else, but you have to put a little knuckle grease into it.
