Really is in excellent condition, as new interior and exterior no deductions at all, slight tire and break wear consistent with mileage plenty remaining; all maintenance done, 3k mile oil changes with full synthetic
Thanks in advance!

Raleigh, great little town, I have friends that have their boat at Falls Lake ...
04 Exploder XLS (no help) 4x4, color is ho-hum but the season is right, miles are kinda maybe okay and you say it's nice and it's serviced ... no paint no glue, if so, then trade side, in and around the super tall $13's, low $14's, might maybe "could" find a dealer that will stagger towards the $15 figure, thats a big maybe ..... the XLS and the miles hold it back and the 4x4 saves it..
Let me know or I will have my friends drive their boat trailer all over your lawn .....
Terry.
$24,500 ...? these are kinda all over the place right now, and this one has 1200 miles .. some are seeing $21, some are seeing $23 .. so throw the dice at the auction and come home with -0- ... maybe the guy will do $23,5/$23,9..?
Terry.
Hmm, how much do you charge to haunt a house during Halloween ..?
Terry
Thanks a million,

My question is this - why would a company/dealership list a link to a site like kbb, let the consumer get a value, and then have the expectation that the trade should bring in $5000 more than they will really get. By having the link directly on the site, it implies that that is the source data for the trade value.
Isn't that setting themselves up? I don't get it from a business perspective. "But the printout from the link on your site says $xx" why are you only offering me "$" ?
In many cases though the values are usually high, they are still usually lower than what people feel their cars are worth based upon sentimental value alone, which makes this the first step in putting peoples expectations in the right range.
Any good salesperson can explain why trade values differ just by walking around your car with you for a few minutes.
I've been offered trade in amounts in the past that were significantly lower than KBB. Even if the dealer rated my car in "fair to poor" condition, they were way off, after I had rated it somewhere around "good" condition. That was not a good experience for me and I left pissed off.
Speaking from a consumer's view point, if a dealer advertises KBB either in their show room window or on their website, they should be close to the trade in values listed.
KBB is a guide. It will provide a rough idea of what your car is worth, but it does not provide gospel. To the best of my knowledge only one book does that, and that one doesn't provide car values.
You thinking your car is worth more, just makes you more likely to want to trade.. You left, but most people will buy, once they take that first step..

It is a good sales tactic though as kyfdx pointed out. It just doesn't work with most educated consumers.
Shouldn't all that be taken in to account when the vehicle's condition is rated? I just rated my vehicle ('99 Honda CRV with 102K miles), excellent is $5925, good is $5375, fair is $4400. I went through their "rate it" option and it came up in "good" condition because of the tires, which is what I expected, so I think I knew what to expect.
Even a rough guide I could have put up with, but in my experience, they weren't even close.

I'm sure this comes as no suprise to this forum but you were right on the money! A dealer I am corresponding with online offered an "actual cash value" of $14,500 to $15,100 (sight unseen).
Those trade-in values kind of hurt my feelings (lol) since I bought it brand new (ouch), so I'd like to try to sell it privately... KBB private party value is $19,450 and Edmunds is $18,200, so if I listed $18,999 O.B.O. in a nice ad, would $18,200 be an unreasonable minimum price? Do you think that is being realistic? Thanks!
...once.
we also appraised one last week with 120% maintenance...this thing was MINT!
it brought $8800.

Another Austin City limits, I guess there's more than 30 or 40 of you guys ..l.o.l...
We have a 00 740iL, good color anywhere, miles are okay, we have the cold pack, blinders, shades, Nav, all the basic stuff with new rubber and stoppers ...
If ~ we have no K-mart collisions, no paint by numbers, no soccer mom interior, no I spilled a gallon of coffee in the console, it looks/feels and drives like 25k .. then trade side, in and around the tall $18's low $19's, might "maybe" get a dealer to wander over towards the tall $19's if this dude is puurfect, glows in the dark and it needs -0- ..... Me personally, this is a great vehicle for Retail Rd - Fantastic detail, glorious 5/6 liner Ad in the Austin paper, service records stuck to the wipers, $24,900 *asking* and kick it loose for the the first $23,0/$24,0 ..... remember it has a "big" book, not a big demand ...
Good luck - and let me know.!
Terry.
Big letters yesterday, tiny words today, new graphics -- I'm going blind here.!
Terry.
Of course, every consumer thinks their vehicle is in "excellent" shape, when most barely break average and most, less than that .. plus there is things like geographic area, times of the year, color, miles, options, "real deal" condition and - demand .. it's kinda like those Home Makeovers you see on TV, your tan and purple couch and your 37 pictures of your last 3 dogs probably won't attract alot of buyers, even though you think you live in "hog heaven" ...
5/6 weeks ago, dealers were still selling converts and 4x4's were only doing "about" average money in the Midwest and the NE area, throw some ice and snow on the ground and all of a sudden - Bang! they're doing $700/$900+ more, because of the demand and now Converts (foreign or domestic are) are sucking their thumbs and dealers will cut one loose for a song and a prayer ... if dealers only had a crystal ball ..l.o.l....
Perfect condition example: I just had a referred customer stop by and he wants to trade his 02 Acura RL, 44k, med gray, Nav, drivers seat kinda worn, needs rubber and stoppers, 1 wheel has kissed every curb in Florida, he's used his trunk lid as a desktop for his briefcase and it will need to be painted and his golf clubs have been dragged over the bumper about 50 times and we have some love bug damage on the hood .... he's been online (has the copies) Kbb, Nada, Edmunds, etc and based on all of "his" research it's worth $21,000 because it's in EXCELLENT shape - and he won't take a dime less because he "knows" what it's worth ... Me, I'm thinkin $18,000 would flat kill it dead and put me in the "far side", and $20,0 if it was clean to the bone and it needed -0- ....
If I wanted this vehicle (which I don't) I would have to spend $350 on tires, $350 on paint, $200 on stoppers, $150 for a new rim, $150 in service, $125 in a detail and I'm sure another $200 will pop-up somewhere ... once done, then I have to "explain away" the vehicle on the front line and I don't like rebuilding and telling stories ..... $21,000..? it's a looong drive between Miami and Gainsville, I wish him luck with his KBB, AAA, CIA, FBI, KFC and lets not forget the AFL-CIO ................. ;^}
PS: If you think some of the info sources might be a little off on cars, it would just stun folks on how far they're off the numbers on boats - some by 30/40% .................. Yikes.!
Terry.
I must have looked over at least 100 cars in the last 4 years or so... I can't remember a single one that was not in 'excellent' condition.

01 30k A6 Quattro 2.7 Sea-Dan .. slider, cold pack, forget me seats, shades, ESP, tunes, clean Carsmack ... if if if ~ no paintwork, no Swiss Army knife seats, service from yesterday, deep sneakers ... if so, then the dealer probably has the tall $17's low $18's in it, add some service and a warranty and it probably hits the table at around the low/mid $19's .... sounds like a nice driver, $21ish and some change, try $20,500 and work your way up ..................

I hate the way this drives and want to get a Honda without getting hosed.
Can you suggest a private party price and trade in case I get desperate? Also the most effective ad, local paper, online etc.
Thanks, Becky
Anywhooo ..... 01 Tribute "DX", auto, color is good for the area, V6, 2WD, 66k - extended warranty means -0- to the dealer, but it can change your life down Retail Rd ..... deep sneakers, service from yesterday, no terrorist attacks, no Bonnie and Clyde interior ... if it looks/drives and handles like a 03 with 25k, then trade side, in and around the low to mid $8's, might find a psycho dealer to drop the tall $8's if it's jam-up and needs -0- .. if it needs stuff, start deducting ...
Let me know what happens.!
Terry.
Do you mean it just had a detail -- or it had a detail after they super glued this thing together after that small $7,800 mishap...?

How close is KBB compare to the real world trade-in?
Thanks in advanced
