I the love updates ....
$15 ..? all things considered like - it's a rwd in the middle of snow country and their values have dropped another $500 in the last 2/3 weeks with the thoughts of the new style ticking away in the minds of potential buyers, then I think you did pretty darn good, actually you did Great.! .. you could of traded it and only seen $12/$13 ....
Yep, "$2 grand" has a nice "ring" to it, don't ya think ...?
Terry
There's no doubt about it, the manufacturers are pushing those "eclectic" colors thru out the market and they seem to be in vogue right now .. of course this is about the 3rd time at the bat with these .. I can still remember 96 Dodge Neons with purple and orange colors, how can I forget them because they sat and they sat and they sat and they sat .......................
Terry.
You got -all- the money on that dude, you did good, reeeal good.!
**PS: Bethaney hasn't returned my calls** ........ She gave me her number when I was out there .. the funny part is every time I call, I get a plumbing company in Butte Montana ..................
Terry.
I may have found another SAAB.
This is in DC Suburbs
2001 SAAB 9-3 Auto
5 Dr.
2.0 L Turbo (185 Hp)
FWD
42000
Black/Tan
Leather, Sunroof, CD, bun warmers
Very good condition (clean, never smoked in, clean Carsmack)
The private party price is asking 15500. I want to know what it is really work. KBB and Edmunds put it at 12K, which seems low.
==========================
It's an 01 9-3 with 42k, we got the auto thing, we got the color thing going for us, miles are kinda ok, we got the slider thing, leather and the cold pack .... if the service is 100%, the rubber is from yesterday and it looks and feels like an 04 .. then we're probably lookin' at a $9,5/$10,0 vehicle on the trade side ...
I'm sure the owner went nuts after he visited a few dealers ..l.o.l.. .. then he probably grabbed the biggest figure he could find for Retail Rd, and that would be Nada figure of $15 big ones ...... $12,5/$12,9 would be all the $$ ...
$15,5 ..? .. thats a Great price if you live in Sweden and you need a ride home during a blizzard .....................
Terry.
My thinking is that if I fix everything up, put an add in the paper, ask 13500. Or, sell it as is for 11-12K to someone with a long commute that want good economical transportation and does not care about the appearance. (I know someone in that boat).
======================
It's your dime .. but I'm from the old school, give folks 22 good reasons to buy - not 2 reasons to say "goodbye" ...
You see all these shows on TV now, Curb Appeal, $500 makeovers, etc, this ain't new stuff, it's just smart stuff .. the point is, unless you have an "instant" buyer *as it sits*, then your better off shopping some paint shops and getting the best price and doing the work ..... you might even just start off with a good detail and see how it looks, then move on if needed .... low miles are great, but battle damage has a tendency to turn folks off, it's kinda like those 200 pictures of your dog hanging on the walls and those purple drapes when you go to sell your house ...
Terry.
here is a followup. I saw a a SAAB that I wanted on AutoTrader. It was at a Subie dealer near my house. I went over there, looked at it. Took it to show my wife to get final approval. She vetoed it. By the deal was: they take my '02 Camry as is, I give them 2K and take the SAAB. I thought that was a good deal.
On the plus side, I found out the reason why wifie vetoed the car: 1) she wants me to have a wagon and 2) she wants a car that will not be as expensive to maintain as the SAAB. Funny thing is what I really want is a Subie Legacy GT or Mazda6.
The SAAB was a compramize car.
Also, I will get the Camry detailed. could be the best $100 - $200 I ever spent.
Perhaps Radioactive Bile as the author suggests...LOL !
I am now looking at a 2001 325Ci CPO BMW being offered by a BMW dealer (Isringhausen Imports).
Description
Steel Grey Metallic With Black Leather Interior, In-dash CD Player, Dark Wood Trim, Sport Package
Mileage 38,772
Asking Price: $21,900
Can you give me a quote?
Thanks,

I happened to be at a mazda dealer the other day. The 6 wagon is a very nice package, and you might be able to get a good deal on a left over or demo, even a new one. The Subes were sweet too, I drove one last year when they came out, but likely more expensive.

Every option for '03: heated and ventilated front seats, heated rears, xenons, automatic with shift paddles, sun roof, in-dash CD & CD Changer, Park Distance Control, rain-sensing wipers, also includes retractable cargo net, winter and summer mats, winter and summer tires & alloy wheels.
The car is in showroom-new condition--we have no kids, we never eat or drink in the car, and we have it detailed after each winter so there's no interior salt residue or anything like that. Also, the windows are tinted.
Maintenance has been better than scheduled (Saab uses full synthetic oil at 10K intervals--we've done interim changes at 5K)
No damage/insurance claims
If possible, I'd appreciate both trade-in and private party, as someone at work might be interested in buying it and I'd like to see if I could get my dealer to do an in-and-out (is that the term?) on a private sale to mitigate the trade-in hit.
Let me know if you need more info--TIA for your help (again!).
I did the wrong thing though and test drove the 330Ci ZHP 6-speed first so I hope I am not setting myself up for disappointment.

*I just don't think I can get them down.*
You have to sell it, just because it's a "wagon"?? Do you know the beating you're (probably) going to take, selling a 2 y.o. Saab? What are you going to get instead?
*(my wife has decided she no longer wants to drive a wagon!)*

How's the market for full size SUV's? Heard today on the news that new SUV's from Ford and GM were down double digits in Jan and Feb, which should be the time of year they're selling the best. I'm assuming that if they're not selling new, they're not selling used.
Thinking of picking up a Suburban or a Grand Cherokee (03 or 04, loaded). How's the market now, and when do the seasonal values on these start to drop, usually?

I know, I know--I've fought the battle hard and long (she's been making noise about getting rid of it since about 5 months after getting it--I've held her off this long, but it's getting tiring). She doesn't care if we're upside down, as long as it's "within reason" (no, I don't know what that amount is). I've told her for years (this is our 4th Saab) that it's best to lease new Saabs (because they subvent so much) but to buy used Saabs (because they depreciate so much).

Love bugs .. in Florida.? thats hard to believe ..l.o.l...
You haven't dumped this dude yet.? .... this is really a "niche" vehicle, the miles are stone cold tall, but you say it's nice, right color right guts ..... I'm guessing it's worth in and around the $11/$12ish zipcode on the trade side, depending on the dealer .....
Me personally , I would take this bug eater down Retail Rd, the Best detailer, deep sneakers, finish any service, some super great pics and drop it in the Tampa/Orlando/Miami papers, maybe Ebay last ... $16,490 *asking* and kick that puppy loose at $14,5/$16,5 depending on the responses you will get .. the miles are not your friend here, also keep in mind the temps will be going up quickly here and Floridians don't buy converts, yankee's do, so nows the time to unhook this item .... Let me know.!

I actually drove a 9-5 before I bought my current bmw, & frankly, the 9-5 didn't do much for me (I didn't drive an Aero tho). So I paid about what a new 9-5 cost for a 2 y.o. 5-Series "Touring" (wagon), & LOVE the bmw. I felt like the build quality & materials & handling were so much better in the bmw that it was well worth it. My other potential choice was an X-5; so I understand the bmw lust. (Don't tell your wife this! :-)
BTW, if you join the BMWCCA you can get a $500-$1500 rebate on most new or CPO bmw's (but you have to be a member for a year first). Great mag. too (The Roundel), you & your wife might dig it. Good luck!

Edmunds says $19K...what say you? And what if they certify it?
Which is less than $5K off MSRP.. I didn't even think that was a good deal..
Just an FYI..

Looked at a G35C and an M35 over there.
I've never been able to get close to a deal with them.
And, I don't have the money for that.. and probably wouldn't choose it, if I did.. (my wife is another story).
I agree... They are nice guys there.. that said, a neighbor of mine went to Louisville to buy his..

Hi Terry,
At that price, I'll just buy 2 more instead of selling.
Edmunds TMV has between 11,000 and 15,000 for the factory coupes. The convertible conversion costs $16,000.00 additional(they will still convert any 92-02 eldorado brought to them).
You're right, this is a niche vehicle (sort of like the allantes, but at least they were "factory cars") but I just don't see the logic in the prices you provided. I haven't checked any online places recently (ebay or traderonline) but when I last checked, 1995-1998s had asking prices of $16-22,000 and 1999-2002s had asking prices up to $40,000.00 (depending on miles, etc) last one I saw was a 2002 ETC (bose radio, etc) same crimson pearl, only 5,000 miles, the dealer wanted a sky high $44,000.00, I said no thanks.
BTW, my car has a lot of miles, but is in exceptional condition. And, Northstars were supposedly built for lots of heavy use. This one isn't consuming oil, and is quiet as a mouse (under 75MPH that is, after that the wind noise through the convertible top weatherstripping will make you go deaf!).
I'm going to do some online checking to see what asking prices are out there.
I think these are going to end up like 1993 Allantes, those cars ar no longer going down in value, it seems like the lowest price on them is $25,000.00 now.
You/They can ask all they want and the market is the market.
thanks for checking in on me! yes, they REALLY have an attitude. it's so annoying. i was talking with the internet manager back when. he basically said that if i wasn't going to meet his offer for a "diamond in the ruff", as he called it, then he coudn't do anything for me. so, i called a floor salesperson who seemed somewhat decent. i'm not bringing up the internet experience with him, obviously. i told him i'd come in next week if it was still there and we can discuss it. i'll offer them 28, see how hard they laugh, tell them what i'm willing to pay and be prepared to walk out! otherwise, i'm sticking with my 1993 325is for now.
i'll be talking with you all soon...

It was convertible conversion also with 35k miles. Burgundy exterior with black interior and a white top. The car was in Kansas. He paid $15,500 and another $800 to truck it back east.
He really likes it,and from what Terry said it looks like he paid a fair price.
Hope this helps.
That's nice .. have Edmunds cut ya a check for one ....
2 things that are getting in the way here - Miles and Ego ..... miles *greatly* effect the value of vehicles, no matter what the books say .. there's a big difference between a 03 12k 540i and a 80k 540i, to the tune of $10 big ones ....
I buy and sell a lot of these dudes and Dealers are only spending the mid/tall $7's low low low $8's on the nice "80k" ESC's Coupes .. so, your's is worth what ...? .. I understand that someone paid $16,000 for the conversion, but people pay $10,000 more for the conversions vans and they're worth .25cts on the dollar at trade time, if that .... now, if it had 7/15/25k you would be in business, but an 80k domestic just doesn't have the luster of 25k ..
Could yours be worth more money on the Retail side.? perhaps ...... but for the guys that are *asking* $40 grand - bud, they need to get to Home Depot and get themselves about 300lbs of potting soil and make a nice planter out of it ~ cuz they're going to have it for a looooong time, so they might as well enjoy it in the meantime ...............
Terry.
Thanks,
cstowe
