That's a pretty safe reference point right now ... $28,0 from a Yota dealer doesn't surprise me, he could either run it off to the auction and get $29/$30,0 depending on the day and barometric pressure or sell off the lot and get get get, well whatever he gets ..l.o.l... the first one I bought I paid more than you at $27,5 but sold it 72 hrs later for $29,9 .... I've seen Ford, Lexus even Benz dealers step up and pay some stupid money for the pre-owned, so they must be selling .........
Terry.
I like the mustangs a lot. I have had two V6's as rentals and was imopressed. I would not buy one because it is totally impractal for me (car seat for toddle issues). Plus, My Subaru Forester outhandles it.

I know it's headed for auction - I just don't want to be too shocked when I get the trade in number.
Also, with the new donation laws, if I donate a working vehicle that the charity goes to a deserving family, how do you determine the value?
I'll chime in on this - the charity will send you a receipt for what they sold it for. That is the value of the donation.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
But about 5 years ago, I donated a decent and running vehicle and they said they would be GIVING it to a needy family.
If they give it away today, since the 96 minivan is a decent vehicle for a needy family, how is the value accessed?
If they transfer the title for, say $10, surely the donator gets more than a $10 deduction.

If I ask $20K for my '02 Maxima and don't sell it, does that mean that mid-size sedan resale is going down, lol?
The value of that vehicle is somewhere south of $1k.
Used vehicle contributions have been noted as an area of abuse for years. Therefore, by claiming this deduction, you are making an audit of your returns more likely.
Is it really worth it? I don't think so.
You are wonderful. Great information. Taking your information into account and contacted BMW of North America to double check whether it had been a DEMO or not. They confirmed it that It was driven as Dealer Demo for 11k miles before registering. They provide this info in written. Also BMW of North America issued a letter that it was fully covered in Warranty and its been CPO.
Carf*x didn't mention any thing about auction acitivity. No information on registered or titled before 11k miles. It was first registered in California on 11.5k miles as a personal vehicle.
With your Price in mind I went to the dealer and started bargaining by putting the Demo issue top the line, I started with 29k, after 6 days of negotiation he came down to 30k and offered me new Floor mats, Original BMW Key chains for all three keys. Finally including tax, title and all it came to 32k. I am happy. It runs good and its been a 3 days I am enjoying the ride. Without your information it never been possible. You are great.
Thanks a Million

Should I buy 2 Mustang GTs and flip them for a profit? Boats? Real estate? Diamonds?
Probably I should buy many Maybachs so I get many giant rebates.
I await your input, honored car specialist.

What do you estimate as the trade in values for each? My goal is to buy one of these cars, drive for a couple years max, then sell and get a minivan. Which one will give me the best value assuming I drive 20k miles per year? Which one is the "better deal"
Thanks so much!
.
The funniest part is the dealer's asking price on their website is $16500. GM employee price for an identical new one is $14200, they asked if I'd take it for $13500.

Other: dealer got from auction and the car lived its life in NJ (I suspected such by the slightly rusted exterior of the exhaust system and slight surface rust on some of the undercarriage bolt heads). Now for the odd part. The car is offered as a CPO, BUT the title check showed that the original lease title had an "exceeds mechanical limits" title in NJ! Could this just have been a documentation error?
Here is the VIN#, 1HGCG22512A006708. What do you think the dealer has in it?
Should I pass or ?
Thanks!
Jim
.......huh?
Why don't you tell us what happened? You wanted to buy a new car, you had a trade in.... Are you driving the new car or your old car?
This is like a giant puzzle... why don't you tell Terry a bit about your '02 so he can correctly appraise that vehicle... Can we assume you are talking a new '04? or used '04? If used, you'll need to drop a lot more info... see below on what is needed.
Payment around $500... are you talking 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 year loan. You can make your payment whatever you want....??
Its all in the details......
"The 03 ES Tribute is an 2wd .. no 4x4, 53k, the color is no help in Dallas, we have the slider, some auto action and we can see the air in the tires .. trade side, in and around the tall $12's, maybe the low low low low $13's ....... the 03 "6" is low in miles, we got that meat clever thing going on, good color for the area, side balloons and we have a $500 kiss .... sounds like the super high $11's, maybe the low low $12's on a good day"
Last month you gave me the numbers above on my vehicles. I think you misread the year of my tribute as it was a 2002 not 2003. The GM dealer offered 11 for the Mazda6. Carmax offered 12 for the Mazda6. The Ford dealer offered 11.5 on both. I got 12.6 for the Mazda6 and 12 for the Tribute, what I asked for. Hope I shouldn't have asked for 13 on the Tribute.
Thanks for all your help,
Fabian...
145,000 miles; 1.8 Turbo; Silver; 4dr Sedan, Quattro, 5 Speed; Heated Seats; Ski Sac; Sunroof; Homelink; Auto Dimmining mirrors; Sideguard airbags. Recent break job with good tires. I would say overall condition is good. Needs new windshield some minor bumps and bruises. Clean title. Went to a dealer and they offered me 5,100. Edmunds trade in value is 8,500. NADA trade invalue 8,100. KBB trade in value 6,700. What is a fair trade in value. Area central CA at an Audi dealer. Thanks for the help!
$5,100 sounds a little low, but you have to bear in mind that Audi/Volkswagens are EXTREMELY expensive to recondition for sale on a used car lot. I honestly would not trade this car in at all, I'd sell it on your own.
You are MUCH better off using that $2000 to buy a named-exclusion extended warranty from a big, reputable company like GE. Or go to Carmax and buy one of their cars with their warranty.
Thanks for the update ...
Terry.
You didn't print that with a straight face, did you ...?
Terry.
You're right when you say these are nice drivers. The wife really loves the car, eventhough she really wants the new Jetta. She decided to wait till the '06's or even the '07's are out to get the Jetta. She would give me the 3 and we'd probaly give my '03 Sentra to my oldest, as she will be graduating F A U in Boca Raton by then.
Eventhough I'm due for the next new car, I could live with this. She prefers the Jetta L with the leatherette seating surfaces. Time will tell.
Again, my thanks for your help on the Mazda 3 S. It's awesome!

thanks a bunch.
On a Caddy or Volvo we may spend $500 to "recondition", but the actual certified warranty costs $1,000 - $1,200. A "GE" or Carmax warranty is more reputable than Caddy or Volvo extending the "bumper to bumper" warranty to 6 yr/100,000 miles?????????
But, now I need to ask one more favor. My daughter may be negotiating tonight on a new (to her) car. The particulars are:
'03 Pontiac Vibe GT, 4-cyl, 18K miles, 6-spd, silver w/black cloth, pwr sunroof, all power options, the car is located at a pre-owned dealer in NH who sells mostly high-line vehicles, he is asking $12.5K. How much do you think he has in it and what would be a fair offer?

LOL...Yeah, but did you ever notice how tough it is to hit a golf ball with your snoot in the air
Try Dennis Pines next time, may be the best on the Cape and less snob appeal... btw, I've never tried a hybrid.
