Hi Terry, thenebean suggested I come over here and see if this Outback is overpriced like I think it is... I'd like to buy it but it's at a Saturn "no-haggle" dealer, and I'm hoping they'll haggle.
They are asking $26,900 CDN. There is another dealer down the street who is listing an '02 with 74k kms for $20,000. Not sure of the condition but I'm assuming similar to the '03 but no remote starter.
I would appreciate any help anyone can give, it's a bit tougher finding market pricing in canada.
Hello all, I'm very impress w/ Lexus quality and started looking for one couple of weeks ago. Doing research here and there, testing, autotrader, google, etc. Looking to pay around 15K I found ES300 and they are pretty good deals. Now, my boss is selling his LS 400/96/54K. He doesn't know yet about the price, but it will be probably around 10K or so. Question here is if an almost 10 years old car like this will be giving me a lot of trouble with maintenance. I know Lexus has a very good reputation in reliability and that this car only has 54K on it, but still, it's 10 years old and I think rubbers, joints...etc, start to crack and to ask for changes. I imagine at this point I cannot buy a warranty or something, therefore, I'll be by my own on paying anything it might need. It's in very good shape, only minor things like the stereo system console is getting crazy sometimes and doesn't show correctly FM stations, and a little hit on the rear bumper when my boss's mom was pulling it out the garage. Other than that, I think it is good and it has been under good maintenance schedules. Any help, insights and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Currently we have a RAV4 2005, which is basically our family car, or should I say, my wife's car. Now things are getting tight, and I need another car to commute and do errands. Thanks to all, and have a great day, K.
I'm not an expert, but if you can really buy a low mileage 10 y.o. LS400 for $10K......sure sounds intriguing to me. See if you can get it checked out by a Lexus dealer; something like the *stereo system console getting crazy* could cost really big $$ (if you want to get it fixed). And budgeting a certain amount every year for repairs would be wise. Of course, you could do errands in a 0 to 5 y.o. Camry, Civic, Accord, etc. instead, if you want something less expensive to maintain. Lots of choices.....
I am trying to figure out good asking price to sell my Honda Pilot, or good trade-in value. It is 2003 EX-L Pilot with Navigation. Silver with grey leather interior. Great condition, brand new break system and 6 month old tires. Mileage is 62,000. I see a past post on Pilot was given excellent advice on pricing and she sold very quickly. I am hoping for the same!! If I trade it would be to the Acura dealer where I am hoping to get a 2005 Acura. Location is norther NJ..Thanks for your help!!

This has to be the finest 2003 truck out there. Looks like brand new inside and out. Tires at 85% tread. All maintenance performed religiously with all receipts. Still under the factory 3/36 warranty, and powertrain is covered until 5/100 by GM (standard for the diesel engine).
Given the outstanding condition, I'm thinking sell this down retail rd. Terry, what can I expect for it? Online pricing tools indicated around $30k, and I'm wondering if this is accurate.
was wondering if you could give me a fair trade-in value for my van. A dealer has offered me $6000 and not even seen the vehicle I was looking at a 2004 Highlander Limited. Thanks in advance. Location:Omaha NE 99 Dodge Grand Caravan LE 4dr Wagon 3.3L FlexFuel 6cyl 81000 miles Color: Slate Grey(okay Black) with gray Leather Options: Infinity Audio, Quad seats, Rear air/heat Custom Wheels and Paint. In the land of the Cornhuskers ........
It's a 99 DoeJe' EL Grande Caravan LE (with the fine Corinthian leather) .. we have 81k, color is good for the area, 3.3 V6, big tunes, quads, rear breeze, soccer Mom interior, tires are maybe kinda almost ok with new stoppers ...... well, if Mom hasn't used this in a drive-by shooting or played bumper tag with the lady at the Wal-Mart .. then trade side, in and around the low/mid $4's, maybe "might" see a dealer wander into the Twilight zone at the low low low low low low low low low $5's, big maybe ......
$6,000..? .. he's guessing, because $6,000 is big big big $$ for a 99 LE with 80k, even in the Twilight Zone ..... you just need to be lookin' at the difference figure, you van and "X" amount of bucks ..... $5,000 would be aaaaaall the corn in Cornhuskers territory, but I have a feelin' $4,5 would just about kill it ..........
...... Right now, it's about 65% M35's and 35% M45's ... and they're doing "about" $2 grand back of invoice with 2,0/4,000 miles, but still few and far between .... I quit driving the AWD's because I've had 3 sold from underneath me in 6 weeks, nice vehicles and getting a ton of Lexus buyers because of the lack of headroom on the new GS .. (where's that Cavalier.?) ....
.... I just got done cleaning up the coffee on my keyboard after reading this. I think some may find this enjoyable... this is honestly what the article says...
"While the cars in the slide show are unranked, a spokeswoman from Kelley Blue Book said the 7 Series has the best residual value on the market. In the past, Kelley has also assigned BMW's X5 sport utility the title of highest automotive residual value."
.....I'm going to rethink anything that comes from a KBB source if they spew info lilke that :confuse:
Was wondering if anyone had any ideas how much money I could get for a trade in for a 2000 Ford Windstar LX 4 door, 3.8 V6, with 52000 miles (91000kms). The color is light blue. The only major options it has are CD player and cassette. It does have an overhead console, and rear bucket seats. The interior of the van is grey. It is in pretty good condition, only a few smudges and scratches in the interior. The exterior has an extremely small ding on the rear bumper. It has only been in a small accident where the front bumper had to be replaced, the air bags didn't deploy. I want to trade this van in because I am afraid of all the horror stories with the trannies, and don't want to be responsible for the costs. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
I am asking high at this point, but I know what I will/want to make. Raleigh, NC
1998 white Lexus ES 300, grey leather interior 90K miles 40% brake life left 1.5 year old tires No wrecks, very clean, a few normal "dings"- maybe 3- on car.
I got a trade-in offer of 8K, although I am not interested in trading. I am hoping to make at least 9,300 myself, asking 10,900 at this point just to see what gets offered... should I lower to 10,500... all of the pricing I could find listed actual sale between 9,100 and 9,900 (private).

all pretty stock and unmodified. I bought it as a lease return with low mileage so I am the 2nd owner. Have ALL service records and good history. (one small fender bender fixed at dealer) Body has a few "kisses" (they're like laugh lines interior clean, but not perfect either. Tires are newer, brakes are okay (after last inspection) Car is PEPPY and gets great gas mileage. Has been loved and well cared for.
NO options- no slider, no leather...heck, no CD player. El-strippo as S40s came in '01.
48k miles
No evidence of paintwork (my ownership of the 740 demonstrated to me that paintwork is easily spotted on a gold car) but I have a sneaking suspicion the rear bumper's been replaced. Love tap, maybe?
Non smoker, interior in very good condition, save for a small spot on the rear seat in an area that'd be covered by a car seat anyway.
Seems well kept, all told. It's on a local used lot that seems to have a few interesting cars on it...not a highline lot per se, but there are a couple late model 3 series, and Acura, Saab, etc. playing roommates with this little unit.
This seems a good little car for Mrs. Lance and her daily 80 mile round trip interstate commute. They've got it marked down to $9950, BTW.

The rear quarter panel was banged up and fixed. The paint is a perfect match in terms of color, but a discriminating eye can detect the difference in the texture-the new paint is smoother looking, the factory paint has slight orange peel texture.

Looking to trade in or sell. I am replacing with a Honda Accord. The dealer offered $2,600. I hate to trade in at that price. Edmunds shows a $4,400 value. One GM dealer offered $3,500 when I was considered a GM. I think I can get the $4,400. Any thoughts or advice.
I want a new Saab. Well, its either something like this or a '04 GTO, and I think a convertible would be more fun.

You could get around $4,000 if you were willing to get the car ready to sell and retail it out yourself. Put an ad in the paper asking $4,500~$4,900 and send it off to a new home for any real offer over $4,000. Do it before you get many more miles on it. Similar cars at real dealer lots have an asking of $5,900~6,900 and I would assume they offer a minimal warranty as well.
$2,600 might be a little low if the car were standing tall and ready to go, but the tires are pretty worn as are the brakes. Remember less than 5/32" tread on the tires is below standard for winter driving, 3/32" for wet driving.
Lotsa $$ for a 5 y.o. saab, but it's got really low miles, it's a Viggen cabrio, & I love the wheels. Also looks like it has "real saab seats" (pre-GM). Would they throw in an ext. warranty? FWIW, I checked the 9-3 reliability ratings in CR--not that terrible--not as good as Volvos, but a lot better than Audis & newer Benzes.....I dunno, darn nice looking car.....

I'm a new member of this forum. I hope this message is appropriate. If not, please let me know. I'm about to sell a 1-owner 1993 Del Sol, Si and am very confused about how much to ask for it. This is the first car I've ever sold privately (as opposed to a trade) so I'd also appreciate advice on the most efficient way to sell it.
Here's the details. Location: Buffalo, NY 1993 Honda Del Sol, Si 2 Dr, 2 passenger convertible with metal top (as is true for all Del Sols) Engine: 1.6L SOHC (I think this is the only engine on 1993 Si Del Sols) FWD, Automatic Transmission 72,000 miles Paint: Black Options, Air Conditioning, AM/FM/CD dealer installed sound. Condition, Mechanical: My mechanic, who did a 75,000 service cycle on the car, found no problems. Condition, body and appearance. Car was driven regularly in Buffalo, NY winters and there is noticeable rust in three places. I have a rough estimate from a body shop of $600-800 to repair it, but the repair person stressed that it would need regular touching up after that. There is a tear in one of the seat backs, not enough to require repair, but definitely noticeable. Edmunds "Used Car Appraiser" gives me a Private Party price of $2,728 if I assume a "rough" condition and $3,190 if I assume "average"" condition. Ads on autotrader.com show a price range of $1,800 to over $10,000 with most in the $3,500-$5,000 range. Thanks for your help. ==================================
Good description - thanks ...... lets shuffle off to Buffalo ..
It's a 93 with low low miles, it's a Yankee car with big big rust problems, we have some normal wear and tear in the seats, it's an auto and hopefully we have some cold breeze deep sneaks and the stoppers are newish ...... $10,000..? ..l.o.l... they better have a Baume Mercier in the console for $10 big ones ...
The bad thing about body work is, "potential buyers" could be hearing $500 or $2,500 depending on the body shop - and yes, rust never sleeps - this is probably a $900/$1,200 ish vehicle on the trade side depending on the rust ..... if you're going to take it down Retail Rd you need to pony-up and get it fixed right .. then do some super pics and a super Ad in the "big" paper and cut this bad boy loose before the snow and salt starts falling in Bills territory .. and if my Almanac is correct that should be in another 6 weeks ..l.o.l.... done right, 4,900 *asking* and wave syronara at the first $3,5/$3,9 ...... the short miles save it and the rust gods taketh it away .....
Let me know how it goes ...................... :shades:

But Anywaaaaaaay .............. we have this 2wd 03 Highlander with tiny miles - it's a 4 banger, good color combo, power seat, rack, serviced and you say it's in pretty good shape .... no K-Mart kisses, no Burger King battles.? .. if so, then trade side in and around the low/mid $15's, might maybe get some dealer to wander towards the $16 figure, maybe ....

any thoughts, of what I could get trading it? another question. I have lost my job, And am basically Getting out of my payment, Would I do better selling it myself, taking it to car max, Or could I possibly trade down into a vehicle in the 5 thousand range, with a dealer , and not get completely taken? I do need some sort of transportation, just dirt cheap, thanks for any advice in advance
One for my dad... Louisville, Kentucky 2003 Volkswagen Beetle GL TDI 2 door 1.9L Turbo diesel, manual FWD 120,000 miles Carbon grey exterior, black interior Only option was seat heaters on the cloth seats. It has the standard stuff, power windows, locks, mirrors, AM/FM tape player, no alloy wheels. Interior is in great condition for the mileage. Exterior is in good condition. The front bumper will be repainted ($350) before we sell. Fairly new windshield. Tires are new Michelins, the brakes are factory but aren't used much because it's a highway cruiser. It was just serviced and they said the brakes didn't need replacement. It has had all the scheduled maintenance, synthetic diesel oil, timing belt at 100k and again at 120k due to a locked up tensioner. Can you guess why he's thinking of getting rid of it?

D-e-p-e-n-d-i-n-g on the color - like no black, no dark metallic blues, no dark anything in Seminole country ..... $71,000..? just because it says "Porsche" doesn't mean it's got strong resale value ..
This one has the carbon pack, blinders, hydes, Bozo sound, bun warmers and the big wheels ...... if this one hasn't had any visits to Maaco, no Swirlomatic car washes, no curb burners and the service has been 100% ... then it's worth in and around super tall $38's low/mid $39's to a dealer .... $46,000.? .. that doesn't sound like a whole lot a money, but I have a feelin' the tall $42's low/mid $43's will probably get it done ....

Another "left coaster" ....... let's face it, the miles are short .. that said, it's a handshaker, it's the 2.5 (ho-hum) we got the sport pack, blinders and it's a good color ..... if it's super clean and the "real deal", with no K-Mart battles or I drove over my aunts dog house (minus the dog) .. then trade side, it's worth in and around the super tall $27's low/mid $28's to a dealer ... to the guy down the street, figure in and around the $31ish figure (or less) if it's perfect needs nothing and it glows in the dark ........... whats he asking.?
*could I possibly trade down into a vehicle in the 5 thousand range, with a dealer , and not get completely taken?*
I'm guessing that's gonna be real tough. A lot of dealers selling $5K cars will have paid $2500 for them, & want to give you wholesale for yours--you might wind up worse off than you are now. What are your payments, & how many are left?
...... $40k to $41,5 would be a *great price* (and a good color) .... make sure you get it looked at real close ..... and don't forget to let me know.!

Thanks!
I'm very impress w/ Lexus quality and started looking for one couple of weeks ago.
Thanks to all, and have a great day,
K.

$6,000..? .. he's guessing, because $6,000 is big big big $$ for a 99 LE with 80k, even in the Twilight Zone ..... you just need to be lookin' at the difference figure, you van and "X" amount of bucks ..... $5,000 would be aaaaaall the corn in Cornhuskers territory, but I have a feelin' $4,5 would just about kill it ..........

What sayeth the Oracle?
8000 miles, no smoker, no kids, all is top shape and under factory warranty.
The rear quarter panel was banged up and fixed. The paint is a perfect match in terms of color, but a discriminating eye can detect the difference in the texture-the new paint is smoother looking, the factory paint has slight orange peel texture.

I don't even have the guts to own a diesel VW, which are supposedly scads more reliable than their gasoline counterparts.

I'm about to sell a 1-owner 1993 Del Sol, Si and am very confused about how much to ask for it. This is the first car I've ever sold privately (as opposed to a trade) so I'd also appreciate advice on the most efficient way to sell it.
Here's the details.
Location: Buffalo, NY
1993 Honda Del Sol, Si
2 Dr, 2 passenger convertible with metal top (as is true for all Del Sols)
Engine: 1.6L SOHC (I think this is the only engine on 1993 Si Del Sols)
FWD, Automatic Transmission
72,000 miles
Paint: Black
Options, Air Conditioning, AM/FM/CD dealer installed sound.
==================================
:shades:

I'm guessing that's gonna be real tough. A lot of dealers selling $5K cars will have paid $2500 for them, & want to give you wholesale for yours--you might wind up worse off than you are now. What are your payments, & how many are left?
After speaking with the seller again, I offered $40K even.
He is in the process of buying a Lexus and wants to see what the dealer will offer him so he can compare the tax savings of approx 6%.
If the dealer lowballs him on the trade in value, then the car is mine at $40K.
If the dealer offers him around $38k (which is what he expected based on KBB), then my purchase price would be $41.5k.
FYI, the color is Metallic Gray.
Thanks for the input.
