Never really thought about a Volvo (will have to check reliability), and the older Altimas are too small. I think the older 3 series would be too small too, and I would be afraid of maintenance costs. Budget hasn't been determined, but I'm thinking $5-8k. And something in the late 90's would be preferable. I thought about a Chrysler 300M for a minute today, but the gas mileage isn't any better than my Legend, and they are a bit over budget. Leaning toward an Accord or Maxima at this point, but still open to suggestions. The person who suggested a $2500 car and driving the TL more, I do plan to drive it more, but I like to have a car I can trust on bad days. I like to keep the TL clean in the garage for the nice days. :-)

And, I bought an E-24 M6 bmw when it was 5 years old, & spent about $2K on it in 10 years. (At 15 years old tho, it did need $2k-$3K of repairs to replace the original suspension, when I sold it).
I guess I figured a Legend would cost less.
*On the other hand, I think one could expect some major, expensive repairs on a 7-series by the time it hits the ten-year mark, if not before.*
A friend of mine has a 97 528i that has given very little trouble in the 4 years he's had it -- since 100k, forsooth!
The mechanics at the local BMW dealer have told him the same thing; the 3 and 7 are more trouble than the 5, and when a 5 comes in, it's usually all the same things... like a certain wheel speed sensor that gets knocked out of kilter and stuff like that.
In the fatherland, these are the cars the mid-level executives get as their Dienstwagen; BMW would sell a lot fewer of these if they were trouble-prone... the newer ones have electronic "thingies" go wrong, but the old ones are not as tricked out.
And they can be a good buy in the sense that Terry dings any deutsches Auto very severely if it has 100k or beyond, just on general principle. As far as Q is concerned; I realize I'm spending his money rather than my own, so I'll quit now!

I have an Audi A4 White 1999 Q T leather interior, one previous owner,54,000 miles, full Audi maintenance history. Also has a Kenwood face off tape, radio and 10 disc CD player. I have really looked after this car. Can you tell me how much i would get for this as a trade in? I am getting a 06 A4 model on lease please?
Interesting. I was considering a used X5 for my wife, until I started reading the X5 owners and problems forums here on Edmunds. Geesh, they seem to be riddled with problems.
So that idea is out the door, and it's narrowed to a used 2000 or 01 Land Cruiser, a late 90's or early 2000's BMW 5 series, or a 2003 or newer 4 Runner. I guess any of the three would be okay....but we're the kind of people that pay cash (or mostly cash) and keep our vehicles for quite a while, so I hate to make a bad decision...you know?
What would be your pick out of those three?
Current-gen TLC's & 4 Runners are nice vehicles too. Personally, I like getting 17-23 mpg in my 2.8L E39 auto......no way that's gonna happen in a full size SUV.

I recently totaled my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport in zip code 05401
86k miles
Power doors and locks
Running boards
Roof rack
CD / AM/FM stereo
AC
Cruise Control
Tilt Steering
Fog Lights
The insurance agent called today with a settlement for $7750. I have searched through kkb.com and cars.com to see what other 2001 Explorer Sports are going for around my zip code and am finding most are in the high 9k range. Is it unrealistic of me to assume that I am getting lowballed in terms of Fair Market Value?
Thanks
It is a 2door, 4WD. No body rust nothing. I know it has high mileage. I am comparing it against my same vehicle with various mileage, but all right around where my vehicle was.
I'm not trying to win the lottery, just get a fair shake.
I would gently remind the agent to include sales tax on top of the settlement.

I was told you may be able to tell me if the used car I'm considering is worth the asking price. Here's the details:

Thanks for your help.

I purchased this vehicle new in March of 2000. It has always been garaged. Actual miles on vehicle as I write this is 12,700 miles. Never been in any accidents, no door dings, like new inside and out.
Never really liked this vehicle much so I never drive it much. I have my eye on a 2006 Frontier. What would be a fair trade in value I could get from dealer? If I sell myself what could I expect to sell it for? Also would waiting until spring time bring more from this vehicle.

Sonora Gold I think they call it
Ivory leather
heated and ventilated seats

It listed for $35k+ and paid $31.5k
What do we do with a new car with no miles. I probably don't need to say but condition is perfect. Wish I needed the darn thing but we have 2 almost new vehicles.
Are you close to a Carmax? They might be the easiest way to get out of the car. You could always sell it private owner but that could take time.
Could you give me some numbers on the following vehicles? The van is leased, up in a few months but the Civic we own free and clear, just toying with some ideas! Thanks

New shocks and struts, fresh alignment.
Color is this silvery green metallic. Interior is beige.
Owner bought it used and has taken very good care of it. Was fully detailed a couple months ago.
Here's the kicker - It's had a lot of paint and body work. I guess the right side was badly damaged in an accident and the body shop didn't do a great job of straighten the panels. They are definitely wavey. About 75% of the car has been repainted in the OE color and it looks nice from 20ft but you can see poor masking and overspray here and there. The current owner knew all this and still bought the car :confuse:
They want to trade for a new SUV so any help you can give them on trade in price would be mucho appreciated. Oh, and a few tips for Tiger on using his new clubs would be nice too.

I told her she might as well skip the AWD, if she wasn't going to drive it in the snow..
Doesn't really matter... He believed the sales pitch about how BMWs only depreciate $1K-$2K per year.. When he finds out that his $37K BMW is only worth $18K-$22K after four years, he won't be trading, I don't think..

Condition: Standard chips in the hood from the nice Michigan roads. Nothing major, normal wear. Interior is decent, no french fry attacks.
Tires and brakes were redone last year and are middle of the road. No major maintenance or accidents. AC is cold, heater is hot.
Thinking of possibly getting a new car as this one is paid off and out of warranty, etc. Not sure what time/mileage is a good time. Ideas on private party and trade-in numbers?
-Boston area
-mileage 105K
-very clean in and out except for an inch or two of rust starting to show on left rear wheel well
-all routine maintenance has been done pretty much by the book
-bigger ticket items done recently (timing belt at 80K, new radiator/exhaust w/in last 6mo)
-while the car has ABS, I had intermittant problems w/ a component of the abs system that the dealer wanted $1K to fix, and that I demurred on figuring that that was overkill on a 10 yr old car, and that I would go in search of a used one part.
used car calculators suggest that abs adds only about $80, suggesting its not even worth it to fix that.
I'd appreciate any thoughts, esp from the acura dealers here

5-sp manual?
4-sp auto?
Made to order 8-sp tiptronic?
Seriously though, the modifiers rarely if ever seek the 4-dr. The 5-sp manual GS-R is the most sought after. Next only to the limited production Type-R of course.
Thanks again!!

It's a 95 Integra LS with 105k, low miles (for the year) ..... we got some cancer popping over the rear wheel well, it's a handshaker, color is good for the area, no mention of rubber and the service "seems" to be ok .... if you haven't bounced it off the parking posts at Wal-Mart and the interior doesn't look like a drive-by shooting .. then trade side, in and around the tall teens, maybe the low $2's based on the ABS situation -- and remember, rust never sleeps .....
Me personally, I would send it down Retail Rd ... get with some great detail gods, finish any service, have all the service records on the dash, and don't forget the ABS situation issue then grab some great picks and do a super nice Ad on the Boston paper and: $6,900 *asking* and cut it loose at the first $5,5/$6,5 ..... don't get greedy, it's got rust and don't forget the ABS disclosure ~ and make sure the new buyer signs it and has a copy ....
Let me know what happens .......

We listed the following on Ebay.
2003 Acura MDX Touring with Navigation
61,000 miles
Location: Atlanta, GA
Exterior: Sage Brush (grayish-gren)
Interior: Quartz leather (light gray)
Engine/Transmission: 3.5L V6/5-speed automatic
Options: Leather, roof, NAV, memory seats, heated seats, BOSE 6-disc changer, dual power seats, keyless
Accessories: Wood grain steering wheel & Shift knob, roof rack, running boards, factory carpeted mats & all-weather mats, cargo cover, cargo net
Condition: One 1" scratch on the driver's side door, one small ding in the driver's side passenger door, one slight scuff mark on the rear bumper, and one rock chip on the hood. All are minor and I would assume they are to be expected on a 3 year old car with 61,000 miles.
Mechanical: Everything works, 60,000 mile service has been done, no known mechancal problems. Drives great.
We sold it for the Buy It Now price of $23,500. The Buy It Now price also included a brand new set of 20" wheels/tires for the MDX that my husband bought a month or so ago. Was that fair for both sides?
