Repost and looking for some help on some real numbers, Terry. Thanks in advance.

I have a 2003 Saab 9-3 Convertible (old style) SE with 30K miles. In very good condition (per kbb standards). It is certified by Saab through 2009 and 100K miles. I am looking at the real world trade value of this vehicle. Can anyone help me out?
You are going to need to tell your location, the transmission type, color and so on. My advice is to repost using the format you can find when you scroll down to the bottom of the page.
This is a repost. I left out my location - Myrtle Beach, SC.
Can you give me some advice?
I'm looking to trade my 02 I35, but I haven't finalized my new car selection. I would like to know what I can/should expect when talking a deal for a new car.
Sport package Pearl White Sunroof and rear sunscreen package 55,600 miles All maintenance done, and it looks in great shape. I still get comments about how new it is - I've had it 4 years.
Same thing Gallileo said in post# 29746. Post using the format right above the area where you type your posting and include all the important information.

Tires replaced at 5,000 miles with Michelin Cross Terrain due to Firestone tire recall
I purchased this vehicle new in March of 2000. It has always been garaged. Actual miles on vehicle is 12,700 miles. Never been in any accidents, no door dings, like new inside and out. Never really liked this vehicle much so I never drive it much. What would be a fair trade in value I could get from dealer? If I sell myself what would be reasonable price I could expect to get. I have researched asking prices in my area for 2000 Explorers, and most have 70,000 miles or more and asking prices of anywhere from $10,000 to $13,000 . I would think with a low mileage SUV like this I could expect to sell for $12,000. Is this selling price attainable or am I just dreaming?
Repost of my message with additional details. Looking for the trade in value for a 2003 9-3 SE Saab Convertible:

The sellers that think their overpriced, average condition cars are in "excellent" condition don't amaze me..........it's the occasional buyer on these forums who is obsessed with paying top dollar for some "gem" that needs all kinds of paint work, the alloys are all dinged up, it has no service records, bad color, wrong trans, etc........but you can't talk them out of it.
Altho, the recent posts by the guy selling a Convertible, in Winter, in Boston, with cigarette burns on the seats, dents, missing trim bits, a former rental(!), an accident, argueing with everyone on the board about getting Top Dollar.......that's pretty darn good! It's only Feb., but I bet that's one of the Top Ten Wackiest Posts of 2006. Who needs Comedy Central, when you have this?
* I am amazed.... Everyone owns a car in "excellent" condition!*
1998 Ford F150 XL 2WD Standard cab, long bed 50K miles (yep, 50K) 5.4L V8 + automatic A/C AM-FM radio (no cassette or CD) Plain as the day is long, no other options or nice equipt. I'm looking to use it as a work truck so plain is fine as long as the A/C works.
I have to add this wonderful customers trade quote. "They don't make them Daewoo Leganza's no more, makes it an instant classic. I'm walking if I don't see $10,000 for my trade!!!" LOL
Sure, it was clean, 2 years old, he owed the $10K on it (yikes) average miles, nothing special, but auction was around $2K at the time.

I have title in hand, and would like to do something fairly quickly.
Purchased in Aug 2003, so there is 7,000 miles or six months of factory bumper-to-bumper warranty remaining. Never had a lick of trouble with this car, it has been to the dealer zero times and has had religious maintenance (Mobile 1 DELVAC).
95% highway mileage (insane MPG by the way, about 47+). A couple of very very minor rock chips in the hood, everything else is in as good condition as possible given the age/mileage. Tires are original and have about 35% tread remaining (planning to replace them this coming Oct).
KBB says $14,1k PPV in good condition, this seems high. I know that these cars have crazy resale but what say the oracle?
What's the deal with Subaru's? I am thinking about a Forester XT (the turbo) and the asking prices seem all over the place.
I'm in Seattle. That could be part of the problem.
I have seen them range from $19,5K to $25k for a 2004 with around 20k miles on them. No granola included. Big range here; what do these things bring for trade for a nice one (2004 XT) with AT,20k miles and NO premium package (leather etc...seems to be the most common spec without it). Would a manual tranny bring less? I'd like to know what these dealers may be in them for, and what a fair retail price might be.
I posted earlier but you seemed to be away. I was the the one with the 80 yr old mother-in-law with a new hip and stint! Stuff happens and she died in her sleep at home a few weeks ago. It's a darn nice way to go IMHO. Anyway, we gotta car to sell

I found among her papers a replaced rear bumper (cover). . .apparently she backed into something that's pretty good for 900 miles, lol I can't see it but it's on the record. Otherwise, no nothin' visually inside or out Private sale. Wish I needed it but I don't. We paid $31.5k in November. Hoping for 29ish.
I have an 4wd (manual shift) '02 F-150 XLT supercab flareside FX4 with 44k miles, 5.4L V8, auto, cruise, pw, pl, ps, cd player, 17" wheels, power moonroof, cloth seats, tow package, skid plates two tone paint (silver/gray), tonneau cover and bedliner (drop in). Tires have 80% tread and body is perfect (no scratches or dents). Surface rust on axles (I live in PA - zip 15237) from winter roadsalt.
Any input as what I could expect for a trade? Loan payoff is $15,500. I was hoping to get at least that much.
There are several of those with dealer ASKING prices of $14980 and $17900 between Indiana and Easter PA.
$15,500 sounds like more of a retail price rather than a trade in amount. I'm thinking trade in is going to be in and around the strong $10Ks real cash money. If it is really really super near perfect then maybe might see a dealer wander to the mid-high $11Ks if it needs nothing but put on the lot for sale.

$10-11k seems too low to me. KBB puts it around $15k and I see same model year without FX4/moonroof that are styleside going for $19-20k. There's no way I'm letting some dealer make $8k on me. I was offered $18.5K less than a year ago, I just wasn't ready to trade at that time. My truck could be parked on the lot without them touching it, and is cleaner than most used cars I've looked at.
The dealers have shown you the bill of sale slips that they actually got $19K-20K cash money for them out the door? Or are you talking about the so-called ASKING prices? :surprise:
If KBB is going to send you a check for the around $15K they supposedly show for your truck, then that is what it is worth. If not, then maybe KBB may not be exactly correct.
BTW the only way I see anything close to $15K on KBB is if you put the truck in the 'excellent' category, which it is not. :confuse:
Even though I missed the FX4 package, the auction values are not likely much higher than the $10K-12K I am seeing for the same truck. The out the door prices still are going to be around the $16K-17K mark even if they are asking the $19-20K. The dealer has to go through the truck, pay the overhead and floor plan, carry interest on it until it sells, and typically pay for the warranty they will need to include to sell the vehicle. If they buy the truck for $12.5K, they will have an on the lot investment of around $13.7K, if they can sell it for 16.7K it is only making a minimal profit of $3K, approx, 18%. Just enough to pay the bills and do things after the sale to keep the cusotmer happy. That is the American capitalistic way, buy wholesale, sell retail.
When I used to run my service shop we saw a whole lot of F-150's cause of all our fleet accounts. Probably less then 5% of the new body style F-150's, so 1997MY and up, were stick shift.
Kind of limits the market for the truck when a lot of people just won't buy a stick shift even for a pickup. An auto is just to easy even more so for towing.
Just reposting, since I didn't get a reply earlier:

Up there in the nice, warm Philly area .....
We got this 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited FWD with 41,000 tall miles ... well, the miles are tall (ooop's somebody already said that) .. it's a good color anywhere, slider, Disney pack, we got some new round things and stoppers, we got some mild key scratches and a few Itsy Bitsy KFC leftovers on the floor ...
If ~~ you don't any paint work by Billy Bob's Barbeque and Paint shop, no K-Mart collisions and the service is 100% ... then trade side, in and around the super tall $22's, maybe the low/mid $23's on a good and glorious day - maybe ....... dealers can buy a 10/20ker's at the auctions for $23/$24 .... the miles hold this one back ..... pristine.? .. maybe if you're drivin' a new Cayman S with 1,800 miles .....

Thanks Terry! _________________________________ Terry, we are hoping to trade this one in the next month or so. Edmunds TMV says $14,516 and KBB says $14,450. If I can get $14,200 considering the following I would be happy. We are looking at an '06 Infiniti FX35 and I am not sure how lenient they will be with the trade in value. This vw model is still an "Editors Pick" and consumer reports still rates it a "Best Family Sedan".

ADDL QUESTION: If I am trading in, how much effort/$$ should I put into having it detailed? If they don't care & they have to do it anyway, I won't bother. If it will affect their offer I am more than happy to put in a little elbow grease.

Last Question, if I put new tires on it would I get that money back?

Sorry for not getting back any sooner ... but between those dog Dancin' lessons and writing replies to some of those "other" discussions (why do I even bother.? - it's like talkin' to little kids that watch too much TV and eat too much candy .l.o.l...) ..
Anywaaaaay ......... good description - tanks. ..... in Chi-town .. we got this 01 Aurora 6 banger, we got 70k, the rubber is weak (69k - amaaazing) .. new stoppers, good color for anywhere, we got a hole in the roof, bun warmers, tunes and we have this minor "ding" from the Mrs puttin' her makeup on and drivin' at the same time (typical) ....... If~~ it's nice, no Popeye's chicken bags in the back seats, no I spilled coffee in the console 2 years ago and forgot to clean it up .... then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $5's, maybe the low low $6's .. it will all depend on how the particular dealer looks at the rubber situation .... Firestone, Wal-Mart, Sears are all having sales and you can probably have it done for the $250/$300ish range .. so if the dealer "says" $1,000 - then we know where you're goin' ..l.o.l....

Up there in Iggles territory ... not far from where I was married, in Bethleham (many moons ago) ... good description, thanks.
In the meantime ..... we got this little ol' 03 VW Passat GLX with 48k .. the miles are a little on the tall side, we got the auto thing, the color is great if your a tree hugger, we got some new round things and stoppers, we have a brisk wind in the backseat and we have a cold butt, let's not forget a baby meteorite hit to the transom area ........ the warranty doesn't mean much to the dealer, maybe you can still get a percentage refund ... trade side, in and around the mid/tall $14's, might see the low low $15's on a good day ...
**>>>ADDL QUESTION: If I am trading in, how much effort/$$ should I put into having it detailed? If they don't care & they have to do it anyway, I won't bother. If it will affect their offer I am more than happy to put in a little elbow grease.**
Been out house hunting lately...? .. have you watched any of those home makeover shows...? .... remember that funky green house with the dirty carpet, the dirty lookin' wallpaper in the master bedroom and the patio that looked like a drive-by shooting ....? ... thats the same view a dealer gets on a dirty vehicle ..
Terry, took the car to a detail shop near my office this morning, turns out the guy does lots of work for the local dealerships. Anyhow dropped $200 for full interior, strip and wax, and engine cleaned.
I was impressed and I might want to buy the car myself *wink* Anyhow, stopped by CARMAX tonight to get the appraissal which is good for 7 days/300 miles and to my enjoyment came in at $6,500 - and the kicker tires got rated above average!! I think the fact that 90% of those miles are highways miles has kept its life *grins*
New question, my brother-in-law has a trans shop which has a used car lot out in front. He told me that guy will let me put out car on consignment for 30 days to see if it goes and then he could take it to auction. Brother in law I would just have to reimburse the guy for his out of pocket on the sale. Does this makes sense or should I take the $6,500 and run?
T-man, I'll have to send you some golf balls. take care-
.... $6,500 is all the money .... you'd probably seen the mid/high $5's without the detail, so the $200 was well spent and no round things ....
Aurora's are still very popular and still sell well, even with miles (as you can see) .... tax difference in the Chi-town area is "around" the 7%ish figure, right.? .. so that would bring you to $6,9ish in real money ....
If ya take it down Retail Rd (and it's done properly) - ya know, with a nice 5/6 liner Ad in the big paper and with some nice pics, along with it being at a good location at Bobby Bucks Used Car Emporium for $8,900 *asking* .. then it should see $7,9/$8,5 - lets shoot low, let's say $8,0 ....
Let's do the math here .... carry the one, divide by 12, subtract 6, multiply by 3, add 7 .. wait, I have to take my shoes off ... it's about a "ghee whiz" ($1,000) more than trade-in, American money ....... that will buy alot of dinners at Carrabba's, I could get those fancy smancy $180 Adidas Tour 360 golf shoes and get the new Mactec NVG2 driver to go with, plus I could fill my boat up 3 times and have $$ left over to pay this months phone bill from my g/f yakking to her parents in Australia .. do you know how many golf balls I can lose for $1,000..? .. I wouldn't have to buy any for like 2 or 3 months ..l.o.l....
As far as the guy taking the car to the auction, I dunno about that ... 1.) he has to be "auction savvy" .. 2.) he has to have the right number on the right day .. 3.) you have to pay for the auction fee $200ish, transport $75, fuel and another detail/cleaning $75ish, plus you have to pay for his time $?? .. 4.) and it might only see $6,0 or less .... I think it will sell waaaay before that - (*properly done*) ...

I'm in Seattle. That could be part of the problem.
I have seen them range from $19,5K to $25k for a 2004 with around 20k miles on them. No granola included. Big range here; what do these things bring for trade for a nice one (2004 XT) with AT,20k miles and NO premium package (leather etc...seems to be the most common spec without it). Would a manual tranny bring less? I'd like to know what these dealers may be in them for, and what a fair retail price might be.

Any input as what I could expect for a trade? Loan payoff is $15,500. I was hoping to get at least that much.

Kind of limits the market for the truck when a lot of people just won't buy a stick shift even for a pickup. An auto is just to easy even more so for towing.
I'm planning on trading in my Sienna and would appreciate some ballpark numbers on what I could expect. Here are the specs:

Artic Frost Pearl exterior, beige interior
All the Limited features plus CD changer, moonroof, spoiler and DVD entertainment system
Recent new tires and new front brakes
No accidents or dings, some very light scratches around drivers door handle (not through the paint or anything)

Trade values I found are:
Edmunds says $24229 for clean vehicle
NADA says $26675 for average
Black Book says $24865 for clean and $23785 for average

If ~~ you don't any paint work by Billy Bob's Barbeque and Paint shop, no K-Mart collisions and the service is 100% ... then trade side, in and around the super tall $22's, maybe the low/mid $23's on a good and glorious day - maybe ....... dealers can buy a 10/20ker's at the auctions for $23/$24 .... the miles hold this one back ..... pristine.? .. maybe if you're drivin' a new Cayman S with 1,800 miles .....
Good luck and let me know what happens ....

Down Retail Rd .. ya know the drill by now, super detail, a Donald Trump Ad, super pics, get those round things and $8,950 *asking* and cry and kick at $7,9/$8,5 - but take it .......
Happy trails ... and let me know.
Terry.

=============================
I just bought 170 brand new golf balls at Wal-Mart for $50 ... I'm ready for the Judge ..l.o.l...
Over in RTJ land ... we got this 04 Toyota Solara SLE V6 .. the miles are just ok, the color is a good "sell" color, we got the slider, new round things, we have a little makeover on the nose, the rear has a few $150 baby kisses and no secrets in the history ..... if the touch work is better than new, it stands tall and it doesn't look like paint by numbers .... then trade side, in and around the super tall $15's low/mid $16's, might "maybe" get a dealer to wander towards the $17 figure if it shows and plays "nice" ......
Down Retail Rd.? ... the Big Ad, the Big clean and all the stuff sittin' on the front seat and: $19,900 *asking* and wave bye bye at the first $18,5/$19,5 ..... my guess.? .. properly done it should see $18,900 ...
Don't forget the update ...............!

Terry, we are hoping to trade this one in the next month or so. If I can get $14,200 considering the following I would be happy. We are looking at an '06 Infiniti FX35 and I am not sure how lenient they will be with the trade in value. This vw model is still an "Editors Pick" and consumer reports still rates it a "Best Family Sedan" - doubt that actually impacts the price, but I find it interesting.

5 Sp. Auto ("AutoStick")
48,000 tall miles
No Sale Medium Green Metallic Ext / Black Leather Int
Vehicle Stability Control (only avail. option - GLX is fully loaded incl. bun warmers & premium sound)
Condition:
(Since no used car is "excellent") Good condition, just needs a detail, no Popeyes bags or Big Gulp cups..
All Weather Mats installed since day 1 (we still have the regular mats somewhere, never used.. should I ebay them or put them in the car?)
Back seats hovered in
Front seats decent condition, just needs some leather conditioner
Front passenger seat has a small scratch in the leather (I am told this can be repaired by a specialist through through a dealer, just never scheduled it)
New Rubber & Brakes all around (around 2 mos ago)
90K 3rd Party Ext. Warranty (Transferrable)
Clean CarFax
1 SMALL Kiss on the drivers door
1 Hit & Run at 22,000mi (Hit on drivers rear bumper while car parked) Bumper, Drivers Rear quarter panel, & light assemblies replaced. Reputable body shop used and paint match looks exact (or seems to me).
Still to service:
- Rear Drivers window off track (I will make an appt next week)
- Recall on bun warmers (am I responsible for getting this performed, or can the next owner do this? only asking cause if the dealer does a crappy job I don't want to take a hit for it)
ADDL QUESTION: If I am trading in, how much effort/$$ should I put into having it detailed? If they don't care & they have to do it anyway, I won't bother. If it will affect their offer I am more than happy to put in a little elbow grease.
Thanks so much! AudreyM

Good luck -- and let me know .....!
Terry.
T-man, I'll have to send you some golf balls. take care-
Aurora's are still very popular and still sell well, even with miles (as you can see) .... tax difference in the Chi-town area is "around" the 7%ish figure, right.? .. so that would bring you to $6,9ish in real money ....
