aaahh Houston, we got a problem ....
We got a 2005 Ford F-150 4dr SuperCab FX4 4WD Step Side .... (leather.?) the miles are good, the color is ho-hum for the area, we got some runnin' boards, tow pack, tunes, 18's and the 5.4 ......... "depending" on the history, he wasn't towing the new 405 Baja all over gods green acre's, the rubber is deep, the interior looks new, no curb burners and no midnight visits to Maaco ... then the dealer might have dropped the low/mid $20ish figure into this bad boy, might even been a brave Hiawatha and staggered towards the $21 zipcode .....
Figure a this and that, and it probably hits the table at in and around the mid $21ish and change figure .......... $24,980.? .. he ain't trying to send his kids off to Trinity College on that money .. but I have a feelin' that $23ish would send it south .....
Don't forget the UPDATE ....................!

Up there in Naw Jawsey we got this 02 Chrysler Town & Country Limited ......
The miles are low for the year, we got the 3.8, good color anywhere (no such thing as excellent unless your drivin' a new Audi TT with 700 miles on it) ......
If the leather is nice, we got the dual breeze thing, the service is complete, no K-mart collisions and the KFC bags aren't piled up to the ceiling ... then trade side, in and around the mid/high $11's, maybe the low low low low low (did someone say low.?) low low low $12's if it's super nice and it needs -0- ........ lots of vans around nowadays and the low miles and the extra options should save this one, maybe ....
Let me know .....

Condition: The interior is in great shape because we've kept other mats on top of the original ones. They look brand new. A few light scratches and a small "spider web" on the front bumper. The driver-side rear sliding door was painted after a good scrape all along the door, but is now totally unnoticeable. Needs a new set of tires. Brakes were done only 4000 miles ago.

Well ..... (dual breeze.?) we got some miles here, but low for the year, the stoppers are new, the color is good, we gotta a little paint work due to a drive-by, it only has the 3.3, bun warmers, the rubber is weak and we got some minor kisses in other places ........ what can I say, lot's of these around and it's not a keeper for an import dealer ... trade side, in and around the low/mid $6's, might maybe get real lucky and see the low low low $7's if the used car was out 3 days for St Pattys Day .... miles will kill this one ..

No po-boy's...? .. I like po-boy's ......!
Is this a repost ......?? .. say it's not so.!
Down in Nawleans ... have you guys shot that mayor yet.? - and why not.????
anywaaaaaay .... (3.8 V6.?) ... we got this base with the power pack and maybe a du-dad here and there and a TON of miles ..... (I'd have a ton of miles if I had that much water chasing me around the state) ...
Nice clean cars are in demand in your neck of the woods .. even if they have some miles (well maintained) ... so if it looks/feels and drives like 20k .. then trade side, you might "could" maybe see the mid/tall $7's, the 3.8 "might maybe" even get you into the low/mid $8's, big maybe ... prices there are nutty as you know, so it will depend on the dealer .. I do know that we've seen a *bunch* of the gulf region dealers at the Florida auctions and they have literally "jumped" right out of the book .. I've gone home a few times with a ham sandwich - and no cars ..l.o.l..
Retail Rd...? .. base it on what the dealers are offering on the trade side ... my guess.? .. $10,900 *asking* .... this has my interest, so let me know .....

Mathias - I'm beginning to see your point. Used Honda prices are great when you're selling, but not so great when you're planning to buy. Looked at a 2000 Civix EX a couple weeks ago. Only 45k miles, asking price of $12k for a car that was what $16-17k new six years ago. Amazing.
But then I look at Consumer Reports, and the Hondas have all the red dots... Still nursing the Legend along for now until I see what happens with my job...layoffs are around the corner.

I see that Chase bought your employer .... hmm, let's see how that all works out ... sometimes you're just better off buying new on those silly things ...

I was trying to trade this TL for a Scion tc. Originally Toyota dealer offered me 22500 for it. I laughed, and told him that the Black Book on it is over 26000 and that we have nothing else to discuss. The sales manager came back with the kbb printout that showed 24000 for good condition. I just told him that all I am asking for is the true wholesale value that the Black Book represents. He came back with his Black Book and confirmed that it does say 26000, but he’ll never pay me that much for it, 24000 is his max.
Is the Black Book really that much off? Somebody must be paying that much for TLs. I am just confused.
The recent discussion about the Subaru resale values made me wonder something...
Are all the Subaru "handshakers" holding their values - like say a Legacy GT stickshift, or is it just the wagons?
How would you compare a Honda Accord stick with a Subaru stick- equally in demand?
Maybe this is too general a question, just wanted your perspective- us stickshift lovers always seemed to get screwed if we buy anything except Mustang GT's, Corvettes or BMW's.
What do you think this one is worth on the retail side? Dealer is asking $7k.

Nice. Better trade-in than i tought (slightly). I went and got the super duper $125 detail done yesterday. Guy did a fantastic job, and even got out 80% of the scratches and swirls that have collected over the years .... only now the wife is having 2nd thoughts about cutting it loose. We'll see. Maybe if I show her this $6k number she'll change her mind.

shop the car at several dealers and carmax; then you will know the real value of the car.
btw...in south floida, the black book rules, as it is usually the most conservative and shows the real action at the auctions.

Auto ...? .... It's not the Black Book, Kbb or Better Homes and Garden that predicate what the value is .. it's what they're doing at the auctions .. $22,500 is nutso and waaay too low ... but I can understand him not wanting to drop $26 into it, especially when the "05's are doing the $28's ..... his thinking might be - some tires, some service and when he's done, he'll be sittin' at $25 before it hits the table .....
Me personally , I know the car is worth $25ish and I would gamble it after the service and such at $26 ..... again, like I've told the others many times .. Most (not all) Yota and Honda dealers aren't really strong when they hit cars on trade unless they are part of a multi franchise and they can move the car to one of the other stores, and even then, that's not a guarantee .... it's kinda like Microsoft buying Apple's equipment ---- make sense.? ...... it's a nice car, shop it around ......

In addition to the standard everything, I've got the Phatbox music system (stores 500+ CD's worth of music), also have the original CD changer.
Exterior and interior are near flawless (I'm picky about detailing my cars). Have owners manuals, two key fobs, new carpeted floormats + new all-weather floor mats (both less than 4 months old). Service records from local VW dealer since 36k miles. Second owner. Tires all match and have 20k miles, rotated every 8k miles.
I think this would make a good private-party sale so I'll most likely sell on my own. Just curious what I'd get on trade.
Thanks,
Mike
Well that "fell apart" I guess and he sold it to someone else down in South Carolina for 30,000. Still wants to pay wholesale for one of our Rovers though plus have it certified.
I hope everyone had a nice St Patty's Day ...!
$30,000.? ... typical Benz owner .... usually their ego is bigger than their, ah, well, uh - well you know ..l.o.l....
I'll bet that $30 was sprung off a retail figure from a friend, neighbor or a brokers customer, etc who needed a car ...... even at $26 (ouch.!) you guys have tax savings on the difference, right.? . (wherever you're at, NJ.?) so figure almost $28 with that .....
I got this guy with this 01 S430 with 117k .....
So ..... we're knee deep in miles, it's black, the interior was cleaned right before 9/11 and not since, it's black, the right side has been painted by a blind man, it's black, the inside rear deck is faded from the sun, it's black, the drivers seat looks like a commercial for Swiss Army Knives, it's black, he's run this dude thru every $2.00 car wash between Miami and Maryland, plus he hasn't missed a curb in between -- did I mention it's black..? ......
... plus it needs "at least" $1,500 of service, and that's not including maybe some breeze work, so we're probably heading down the path of $3,000ish ... he wants $29 for it and won't budge a "dime", not a nickel .... he's had it on ebay 3 times, classifieds 5 times (in 2 states for 10 weeks) video, pics online, you name it ... his phone was so quiet he called the phone company 3 times to make sure his bill was paid and it wasn't disconnected ..l.o.l..
Every month, like clockwork he comes into the store ...
Paul: .. "ok Terry, I'm given ya 1 more chance .. I have some buyers, so $29 .."
Terry: .. "I love ya and all that, but .. you need to find a buyer from Madrid or Thailand that has a head injury because that wreck is only worth $15 on a good day - and today is not a good day ..."
Paul: .. "I think you're trying to hurt my feelings, because a guy in Kansas City just offered me $27,500 ..."
Terry: .. "here's my phone, call him on my dime and grab that money ..."
Paul: .. "but I wanted to give you a chance ..."
Terry: .. "here's my phone, call him on my dime and grab that money ..."
Paul: .. "I know you'll match his offer ...."
Terry: .. "here's my phone, call him on my dime and grab that money ..."
Paul: .. "I'd rather do business with you ..."
Terry: .. "hold this phone for a minute, I'm going out to play 18 holes ..."
We'll probably see him again in about a month ....
Terry.

In Hotlanta ..... 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer ES with 43k .. miles a l-i-t-t-l-e on the tall side, we got the auto, some baby kisses, cloth, new round things, good color, ho-hum not much going on here - did I see a power pack here..? .. ya know, like power windows, cruise...?? ....... if so, then it's maybe a $7,0/$7,5 vehicle on the trade side, might "maybe" get real lucky and find a dealer that will struggle towards the $8 figure, big maybe .. the miles are not your friend here ...
$10 grand is a tuff price range ... yours has big miles and there's plenty of them around ... besides, pay-offs have nothin' to do with the value of a vehicle - zero, less than zero, nada .. the payoff is nothing more than the direct reflection of the loan, not the car .... 2 separate entities ..
If you want it sold .. you're going to need to get with the "Hip National bank" and make up any difference .. and that means dropping the price to say "$9,490" *asking* and go from there .... or trade it.

... **Does anyone have any advice about how to determine the best deal for getting three months of cost-effective transportation in Germany next fall (Sept., Oct., Nov.)? ..**
Check with Mathias ......
'03 Sienna CE "desert sand metallic"
3.0 V6 [of course] 46,500 miles
It's a late CE, so it's got everything; four doors, four captain's chairs, dual breeze, power this & that, remote locks, rack, cruise.
No runs no hits no errors no smoking.
Van is clean, and front seat covers from the get-go.
3k oil changes done by me; logged and receipts kept.
Recent "k" service done. Heck, I've kept a log of when I got gas, and the gas mileage.
The tires are a different story; all-seasons are completely bald and sitting in the basement on steels.
Van is driving around on Blizzaks on steels that look like new but have ~10k on them.
Any thoughts on what to do there?
Lansing area, MI, which is heavily GM... but it cuts both ways; fewer people wanting to buy imports, but just TRY and find a used Toyota for sale.
How much should I put it in the paper for?
TIA,
-Mathias
How the heck do I know .... I've NEVER bough a car in Germany... and I don't know anyone in the biz... for three months, given the cost and complication of things there, he's better off *renting*, esp. if he organizes it from he States.
-Mathias
Terry.
LOL that *almost* got tea up my nose and all over the keyboard. -m
Hey .. all that junk like quads, dual breeze, good color and those doors, sell ....... plus it's got small miles and I'm sure you'll have the paperwork stuck to your forehead .... what were you thinking ...?
Terry.
Terry :P
I am in CT and yeah we are a tax on the difference state at 6% sales tax. That puts his real value of the car at just under 28,000.
I know his car was a CPO mercedes so I am guessing the warranty is transferable in a private sell and is good to 100,000 miles.
Still 30,000 dollars is crazy money for that car in any shape and it was not in perfect shape.
What are your thoughts before we take a trip to see/deal?
What is your thought on what we should start with as an offer and what might it take for us to come home with this one?

Greensboro, huh....?
02 GS300 with 27k .... sounds like it might be a nice one ..... the miles are way way low, the color is right right right and we got a little CPO action .......... if -- the rubber is from yesterday, the history is right, the service is complete and the paint is puuuurfect and it needs -0- ..... then the dealer probably paid the mid/tall $20ish figure, maybe even dropped hard into the low $21ish figure ... figure some service - $300, maybe some rubber - $250, a this and that - $200, and lets drop the CPO in there - $1,100 .... so it probably hits the table at in and around the super tall $22,8ishishishish figure .......
$29,990 ......? .. nice vehicle, but that's a little on the steep side .. I'm guessing there's a new Corum watch in the console...?
If it's truly a nice one, a real CPO and no paint by numbers ... then you should be able to snatch this one for in and around the $25ish range .....
Good luck and let me know ........
Terry.
