Is $28,500 for a silver gray demo 05 bmw 330i with Premium, auto and heated seats with 13k miles on it a good deal? This has been CPO'ed and is warrantied to 04/2011 with free maintainance until 04/09. Car looks brand new.. The trade is a 05 Saab 92x Aero with 18k miles, I was offered $21k for the trade. This is in NJ.

    Thanks

Hey Fladriver, how goes it ..?

Sorry to hear about your parents .... that said, I wish my g/f could no longer drive .. I might as well move my body guy into the house ..l.o.l...

This could be a nice one ... it's a 01 Honda Accord LX with those baby miles .. auto, right color, you say it has a few scratches and no tow trucks .... trade side, in and around the super tall $8's maybe the low/mid $9's ........ nice car down Retail Rd, get with a detail god I'm sure the scratches will buff out, finish any service, history in the front seat and a superb big fat 5/6 liner Ad and online, then: $11,950 *asking* and cry and wave at $10,9/$11,5 .....

As silly as this might sound .. when I sold my Mom's car after she passed away, I had her picture on the dash and she sold it herself, I never said a word ....

she's never let me down ...

Why don't you just keep the Accord for yourself, sounds like a pristine LX. If we were in the market for a replacement car, I'd be over there in a nanosecond. Might just have to talk to the wife about this.
We're out in the Coral Springs/Parkland area. Where in Lauderdale are ya. Keep me posted as to what you do with the LX, might want to come over and test drive it. Might even be worth it to sell the '03 Sentra and pick up your LX.

    Hi Terry,

Need a trade-in ball park for our van. Wife want's a new Pacifica and they've got some deals going this month, so contiplating trading up.

Oxford, MI (northern Detroit suburb, approx 10 miles north of Auburn Hills)
    2001 Chrysler T&C Limited
    Minivan
    3.8 liter
    FWD
    83k miles
    Silver
Has heated front seats as an option
New tires (less than 1000 miles on them). Excellent shape inside and out with no major scratches or dents. Clear history, no accidents or bodywork of anykind. Not sure if this makes a difference, but it's one "family" owned (I bought it from my father-in-law 3 years ago. He bought it new). What can I expect for trade-in from a Chyrsler dealer? Edmunds TMV has it around mid 7's to low 8's depending on condition.

    Thanks!

It was a Demo/Loaner car. My independant mechanic took a look and gave it a thumbs up. He said it looked brand new.

Dealer wants $7500 + the Saab 92x Aero + TTL...

    Is the tire/wheel insuarance worthwhile?

Hey Terry, I hope to look at this one in the next couple days. They just got it as a trade-in, and haven't sent it through the detail shop yet. Autocheck shows clean, 1 owner. They are asking $11,900. SHould be able to get $1000/$1500 off? A bit more than I want to pay, but clean used cars are hard to find. What say you?

Very cool lookin' car there. All it seems to need is a good detail and some new mats and it'll make a great daily driver. Let's face it, you can't go wrong with an Accord that's been properly maintained.
Good luck ...I for one hope you snag that puppy!

Make sure the tranny shifts smoothly; 2000 was the year they had issues. Honda did extend the warranty for the transmission on many 2000 V6's because of this. If you give the VIN to a Honda dealer, they should be able to tell you if it's covered.

Thanks, I'm well aware of the transmission issues. It wasn't just 2000, but Honda only extended the warranty for 2000 and 2001. It's the one thing that has me a bit concerned about a V6 Accord.
  • corvettecorvette Member Posts: 11,277
Looks like it doesn't have any curb burners, and they replaced the tires with the expensive factory Michelin Energys (arguably not the best tire for the money, but shows that someone took care of it)...

In my experience, a car with a tan or grey interior will eventually have floormats that won't get perfectly clean, no matter how much you scrub. I wouldn't worry too much about that, as they can easily be replaced, and the rest of the car looks great in the pics!
  • qwallsqwalls Member Posts: 406
Thanks Corvette - I'm not worried about the mats, as you said, easily replaced. I've never been crazy about the stock Michelin tires on Hondas, but they will do the job for a while. I hope it looks as great in person.

The 2WD and small V8 don't make it particularly desireable, plus SUVs aren't the best selling vehicles out there right now. KBB shows $7500 in good condition, FWIW.... What have you been offered?

They offered us $7700. That was allegedly the average of three guides. Sounds like that was about right.

Although using all the online guides I can get my hands on puts 7700 at the low end of the spectrum. I just cant replicate the numbers they were getting and thats frustrating.
  • gussguss Member Posts: 1,167
and some of the others you have to watch the option packages. You may duplicate some things the XLT came with standard.

Also, are you using excellent condition ?It's been stated here before that no car is excellent unless it rolled off the line yesterday.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
heck, at $7700, it sounds like, as Terry would say, "they are trying REAL hard to earn your business."

They could also be overallowing a little bit. Start really working them on the price of the new car and see what happens. That is why I hate overallowing on a trade cause if you do then you have given up some of your barganing power on the other side.

Are you buying that NSX in the picture...? .. now that's a nice car.!

Just the Accord, huh.? ..... who detailed that car, Pablo the one-armed paper hanger..? .. gheez, they missed the wheels, the drivers mat looks like a drive-by shooting -- as Donald Trump would say: "You're Fired.!" ..l.o.l..

The paint looks ok, but I can't really tell on a cloudy day, sneakers look good and the miles are good for the year ....

If the history is fine, the service is 110% .. then the dealer probably dropped the super ultra tall $8's low/mid $9's in that little rascal, he could have "maybe" even squeaked towards the tall $9's, maybe ... sooo after some service, this, that, blah blah blah ... then it probably hits the table in the low/mid $10's ..........

$11,900.? .. he's just trying to move a car, not build a house on Sanibel Island ...... I'd say $10,9/$11,5 depending on what he had to add to the car ..... remember, some of these Honda buyers are a little nutty and they think they can get 60k out of the tires & brakes and the 60k service is only a "rumor" ..l.o.l...

    Let me know .......................

Well, let's see here .. (3rd seat, dual breeze.?) it's an 01, it's a 2wd, it's a XLT, it's got big miles, no help from the 4.6 and we've got some hydes ...... trade side, in and around the super tall $6's low/mid $7's, might maybe see the tall $7's *if* it's absolutely puuuurfect, it's knee deep in rubber and it needs -0- (which I doubt) .... no 3rd seat and no breeze.? .. then you'll be floppin' around in the low $6's ....

If you can get $7,700 for it (real money) then I wouldn't be reading this stupid thing .. I would at the store waiting for the doors to open at 9:AM .... ;) ... obviously they are aggressively seeking your business ..

    All, good morning.

I saw a 1990 Chevy Silverado Reg Cab, 8'bed and liner, 4X4, Red with only 34K miles on it being sold by a local (Baltimore, MD) used car lot. It's a standard truck (no power stuff) in good condition (some scratches but no dents - -inside is very clean) with A/C and a 5-speed V-8. Tires and rims look good - -plenty of rubber on the tires.

What might be a good offer to make? The dealer says $6500 which I think is high (Edmunds says $2500 or so which I think is way low after looking at other trucks in the area)even with the low miles. Any suggestions would help.

    Thanks, Mark
  • dkuhajdadkuhajda Member Posts: 487
Red is the color of death when trying to sell a pickup truck or suv. I would be more concerned of low mileage damage to the vehicle than anything, rotted belts, tires, old oil pitting the engine, etc.

Before signing on the line, get that one a super going over by an independent mechanic. Assuming no prior wrecks and clean title and it was maintained properly, then it should see all of $3,900 on the retail side. It is a red, standard cab 4x4 with 5 speed manual tranny. If the dealer can offer proof that all the fluids were replaced, any leaking seals replaced, belts and hoses, and new tires, then they might see a few extra hundred out the door.

    Hello
I need help trying to get a good estimate on what I should expect on a trade in on a 2004 Audi S4 6sp black with all options except Nav, onstar, and sunshades. It has 34k miles on it. It also has silver alcantaraz interior. I am currently located in Montgomery, AL and will be making the deal in Atlanta, GA.
The dealer is telling me that he can get me $26-30k according to what his blackbook is saying. I looked on my credit union's website which is using black book and it shows $32.4k clean, $30.9k average.

Is it unrealisitic for me to get the $32.4k?

    Thanks
    Dennis

Hi Terry. Here's my info. The dealer is offering us $7000.00 for it.

    2000 4WD Expedition 5.4L V8
    Black with Grey Cloth
98,000 miles (but has an engine that's 1 year old and has 2 years, 26K miles left on factory warranty, Ford Motor installed at the dealer where we bought it)
It does have a 3rd seat.
Has the 6-disc changer in the center console.
    Has the trailer hitch
    Has luggage rack
Tires are not new, but don't need to be replaced yet, not sure what percentage worn.
No dents on exterior. A few scratches from normal wear and tear
The inside will probably need some cleaning, new mats because of two toddlers, spills, etc. Mostly cosmetic, no rips or tears anywhere.
So I would say the interior is in fair condition.
    No cracks in windshield.
  • duff333duff333 Member Posts: 41
dkuhajda - -Thanks for the info. I'll check the rubber, hoses etc. and see if he can offer some maintenance proof. I figured about $4500 or so at 1st glance but trucks around here, at least the asking price, are crazy around here. I've seen 15 yr old 120K+ standard trucks (no 4X4) asking between $5000 and $6000. Yipes!
  • dkuhajdadkuhajda Member Posts: 487
And the owners of some of those trucks can go to home depot and buy a bed full of potting soil as they will have to make a planter out of them at those prices.

That red truck is a strong $3,900 if it needs little and checks out. Add a little, and I say little, more if all maintenance proof is up to date. I've seen way too many a low mileage 15+ year old engine just totally ruined because of the fluids never being changed on a regular time schedule.

    Hey Terry,
Hope all is well with you.. its been awhile since I've posted here, been a little busy w/ new job, kid, house, etc... but checked in every once in awhile for smiles.

Anyways, I pulled the trigger yesterday on an '05 G35. Traded in the black I35. Here's the details for your information...

bought '05 G35 sedan auto. Black w/ black interior. typical options, heated seats, etc... 21,000 miles. great condition, really well kept, hardly a scratch on it. Certified used @ Infiniti dealership Infinity.

Traded '02 I35. black w/ black interior. well equipped, including the heated seats, steering wheel. 58,xxx miles. few scratches and knicks here and there and on the front, probably typical for a 4-year old car. was going to need new tires soon plus typical maintenance when you start reaching the 60-70k mile range. Everything else was decent shape, it was a certified used from Infiniti when I bought it so it still had some warranty left.

OTD @ $27,5 w/ taxes and all. Written up as even wash on trade/payoff ($14k on payoff/trade allowance). paying $26,8 for the G35 plus taxes, tags, etc... on the difference.

felt it was fair for both parties....
    thanks.

    Hi Terry,

Its been a while since I have posted, but I am just curious to know how the M45's are holding up in value. I am in Phoenix..2006 m45 sport with tech and journey pkgs. I added chrome rims after the purchase (factory oem upgraded rims). It has 15,000 on the clock and is dark silver with light grey interior. All is good, and original including the tires. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Terry. Those pictures were before it went to the detail shop! They must really want to move it because it was on their website and in autotrader, and it was still at the detail shop yesterday. I WISH I were buying the NSX..oh well. As usual, thanks, and I'll let you know what happens.

    Hi Terry,

My son is in the 101st Airborne in Hawijah right now. He's coming home for 2 weeks in April on leave, and then permanantly in September. He had a question that I wanted to pass onto you....

By the way, he'll be purchasing the car with our help, probably in the Washington DC Metro Area at one of the big Nissan, Toyota, or Carmax stores.

Which is better in terms of reliability, cost of upkeep (and can you give a general, ballpark price figure)

    1. 2001 to 2002 Nissan Maxima, miles in the 50-60K range. Fully loaded up.

    2. 1998 or 1999 BMW 5 series, miles in the 70-85K range.

    3. Any other early 2000's vehicle that you would recommend, close to the Maxima as far as sportiness, comfort, and price range?

He had a 1997 Maxima before he went into the Army, and it was a great car. My mother in law still has it, and it's trouble-free. So I guess he's leaning towards a Maxima.

He's looking to pay cash, so he needs to stay at $10K to $15K if he can....no car loans!

Thanks for your advice - I'll email it to him as soon as you respond.

It was a Demo/Loaner car. My independent mechanic took a look and gave it a thumbs up. He said it looked brand new.
Dealer wants $7500 + the Saab 92x Aero + TTL...
    Is the tire/wheel insurance worthwhile?
    Thanks
    =========================

    Tire and wheel insurance.....??

    *2005* Saab 92x Aero with 18k right....?

.. the miles are a l-i-t-t-l-e on the tall side ... even so, if it's clean, you haven't used it as a pinball at the local Wal-Mart and no paint by numbers ... then the $7,500 figure is fair, VERY fair, almost too fair ... it's not like people are beating down the doors to buy a Saab ya know ..

Did you run a Carsmack on the Bimmer.??

I am trading a 2004 GMC Denali with Moonroof and captains chairs with 36000 miles for a 2006 GX470. Nice shape, very clean, no wrecks, etc. I have a Carmax quote of 28k for my truck, but Tennessee taxes the difference.

Dealer is offering me my truck and 21277 plus tax and 129 doc fee.

    GX has:

    Nav/ML
    Spoiler
    3rd row seats
    tow hitch (the real one)
    preferred acc. package

    List 53243
CR invoice 46154 or 45221 with holdback
Dealer says that I can buy the truck for 48777 cash. He is valuing my trade for 27500.

Another out of state dealer offered me a lower price. I went there...200 miles...he lowballed my trade to 24k. I walked and he sold the car. Are these units so hot that they can sell them at a high price??

If the 24k was real money, then my local dealer is selling me close to invoice.

I have another quote of 50k from another dealer (100 miles)...but he has to see my trade...of course..I can't blame them.

    Any opinions or thoughts??

    Thanks,

    Rick

    Let me know .......................

    Terry.
    ------------------------------------------------------

It was gone when I got there...salesman didn't even call to let me know. Fair or not, the car was priced pretty agressively for this area. Most dealers would have been asking $2k more to start! He said he got calls from as far away as North Carolina which is very unusual for an Accord, and they had it on Autotrader before it was even out of the detail shop. :-( The search continues.

.. **He said he got calls from as far away as North Carolina ...**

Did you expect him to say anything else.? ... I'm surprised he didn't say Madrid ..l.o.l...

But even so, the car was priced very aggressively .... with one of the largest Honda auctions right down the street from you I would think there would be plenty of them around ... probably is, you just need to negotiate an aggressive price - and in your mind use this one as the static figure .... :surprise:
