It's cost you about, what..? ... 30 cts a day to run that little dude..l.o.l..

    Sorta.
Taxes aside, I paid $13 for it 30 months ago, so it "cost" me $50/month in depreciation.
    And $60/month in insurance :-(

The trick was of course $2,600 in GM Card money. But even without that, $4k for 2.5 years is stellar resale on any car.

The reason is, of course, gas at $3. 30 mpg anythings are bringing the $$$ now.

Who will buy another Vibe as soon as the GM Card is recharged...

That was a rental car that I thought I was REALLY going to dislike, but was pleasantly surprised. Great gas mileage.

    Terry - welcome back.

    Here's one for my Dad:

    02 CRV EX
South of Boston - almost Cape Cod
No Sale Blue / black cloth
    Automatic
    AWD
    Usual EX goodies
75K - lots of highway between Cape Cod and Florida
    Tires about 80%
    Dealer Maintained
Honda step bars, window vents, and roof vent.
One scratch on RR door my Dad touched up.
    Couple of little dings.
Interior better than average - parents getting a little older and don't hover as well as they used to.
Looking to trade on an 06 CRV or maybe wait a few months for the 07.

What say you oh wise sage??

Welcome back. None of us can keep up with all of the requests like you can.

I am thinking about selling my MINI so that I can free up some income for a house. I am just gathering information so I can figure out how much would be good to ask for it. I haven't kept up with the market on these at all since I bought mine so I need some help.

    Location: Hartford, CT
    2004/ MINI Cooper S

    Engine: 1.6 Supercharged

FWD of course and a proper manual tranny as I bought mine before BMW bowed down to people who demanded an Automatic in the Cooper S.

Mileage: 27,200 and only 200 miles since the first of the year since I have a demo now.

Color: Chili Red with Black roof, black mirrors and black leatherete interior

    Major Options:
Cold weather package: (heated seats, mirrors and washer jets)

Premium package: (Panorama roof, trip computer, Cruise control etc)

Sport package: (Xenons, sport suspension, fog lamps everything but the 17 inch S-Lite style Sport wheels. I got the 16 inch wheels since the 17 inch wheel and tire combo weigh 52 lbs each)

    Condition:
Interior perfect just needs a good vacum
Exterior needs a good wash and wax but I have kept it mostly covered through the winter. One deep scratch on the drivers side door from stupid neighbor kid who ran his bike into the door and a paint chip that looks like it was caused by a BB gun probably fired by the same stupid neighbor kid

Tires - are the original Run Flat all season dunlops but I rotated them every 6,000 to 8,000 miles so they are about 50% worn.
Brakes were done by local MINI service at about 24,000 miles.

I did all maintenance myself except for the last 24,000 miles service down by dealership.

Only aftermarket modification to my MINI is an adjustable 24 mm rear swaybar from MINI madness currently set to race mode.

    Hi,

I have a 2005 Nissan 350Z convertible* touring model* pretty much everything is standard-leather-auto (tiptronic)-cd-power windows, locks, top...I did add chrome rims. It has 6800 miles located in Phoenix. Its white with light grey interior and the blue top. No accidents, only had needed one oil change and tires are fine. Thanks in advance for your help. Trying to figure out what the sale price difference would be between private party and trade in value.

..... **Had more calls in 36 hours of ebay than 30 days of Cars.com. Finally sold it to a guy in Virginia for $5500 (he technically bought it through private sale..**

Good job Qbrozen ...... it reminds me of a neighbor I know with a 96 E320 Benz with 105,000 miles ... it truly was a nice car, deep in rubber, the service was 110%+, detailed every 6 months and the right color ....

He couldn't understand why it wouldn't sell with a "For Sale" sign stuck in the back window (we live in a cul de sac) and a 2 liner Ad in the community paper (the only person that knew about this little gem was the postman and the social director) .... after 4 months he sells the Benz to the social director for $7,000 .. then the social director drops it on ebay for $10,900 and gets $10,500 for it in 7 days ...

I guess that explains why they don't play cards on Friday nights anymore ..l.o.l....

Welcome back, Terry. No one does this as well as you.

It's spring on Long Island - about 30 miles east of NYC - & my wife has her eye on a new Lexus. What can we get for her current ride?

    1999 Lexus ES 300
    Mileage: 86.5K
Exterior color: light green-grey (I forget what Lexus called this color. Sage, maybe?)
    Interior color: taupe leather
    Options: in-dash CD changer
    vehicle stability control
heated leather seats w/driver side memory
    sunroof
Exterior condition: no hits, no accidents, no repaints. Car has 8-10 of the usual suburban parking lot nicks. Paint shows no signs of fading & shines up nicely. Overall, somewhat better than average for a car of this age & mileage.
Interior condition: Outside driver's seat bolster shows signs of wear: scratches in leather. Otherwise, interior is clean. No French fry attacks or fruit fly infestations. Smokers can't ride in our cars.
Tires: all 4 were replaced in early 2004 - about 25K miles ago. Recently, our mechanic found that the front 2 were badly worn. He realigned the front & replaced those tires. As you'd expect with a front-driver, the rear tires, which don't do much work, have most of their tread life in front of them.
Mechanical issues: none. All major systems (A/C, etc.) are performing to spec. Everything works.
We're looking for private sale & trade values. A relative has expressed interest in buying the car.

    Thanks for your help.

Ok, I'll say you were missed for your good looks and sense of humor. BTW, any chance you can drop me some values on these 2 (that is if flattery gets me everywhere.....hehehe), they are leaving in about 3 weeks or so. Gonna get a real truck......a Dodge Ram with a Cummins!

2004 Nissan Titan CC 4x4 LE, white/grey leather, only options besides the LE stuff is the big tow pkg, a grille guard, bed tray, bed extender, and bed divider. It has 51,500 BIG miles and I ain't gonna say its in excellent shape cause its not. Its got road rash about everywhere it can have, the pass side mirror kissed a parking garage wall.......minor scrape, the grille hit a bird and has a minor crack in it, neither are real noticeable. Other than that its ok. Oh yeah, the tires are um, well, um, lacking tread, 2 are 10% or less, the other 2 are 25% or so. Interior is nice though, no cracks in the leather, stains, and I don't smoke.

    and then there's Zippy......

2004 Focus ZX3 base, 5-speed, no a/c, no power anything, 4-wheel ABS, silver/dark grey cloth, am/fm/CD, 54K Big miles. A little road rash on the hood, but overall the car is in pretty good shape, windshield is cracked, tires are probably 25% or so. Interior is very nice. Brakes and clutch are still fine.

We have 4 vehicles now, I picked up a 97 Sebring LXi for $650 last week, that's my daily driver. Miles won't change on Zippy and the Titan since they are parked out back now waiting to leave.

I'm thinkin' $6k for Zippy and $19k for the Titan......how far off am I??

What I don't get -- but of course I'm not blond(e) -- is why you don't get one of the proven performers, buy it outright, and run it up to 300k miles over the next 8 years or so.

Say, an Outback for everything that does not require trailer towing. Or an Accord. Or even go as low as a Corolla.

Buying junk cars is fine for your summer, I can see the Sebring, but once it gets cold again if four or five weeks, man, I'd want to be in a really good car out there on the road.

To me, the Focus didn't make much sense to me if you're just gonna ditch it after two years.

I don't want an answer; it's not like you have to justify what you do to us here... ESPECIALLY here in CCBA LOL... but think about it.

Yeah, I've bought some stupid cars in the past 13 years. I've had 2 Subarus, didn't like them, had a Corolla, got stupid and sold it.

I figure the Sebring for the summer and a truck for winter. I don't drive that much anymore it seems and wintertime I need a truck anyway with firewood and all.
Should have bought a 1-ton diesel instead of the Titan 2 years ago, then I wouldn't have to go through this now.

Hopefully the Sebring will last 5-6 summers and the truck I buy I can live with for 5-6 years. But then again I seem to be afflicted with the CCB bug so who knows.

Oh and Zippy is/was an awesome winter car surprisingly enough.

Glad to see you back among friends. So how was the "Terry Golfs The World In 30 Days" tour?

A car buddy and I were out looking today and ran across this. Both of us are domestic guys (except for my predilection for Saabs) so we weren't too familiar with the market value:

    2002 Audi TT coupe
American Le Mans special edition, apparently very rare.
    48K
    6 speed manual
Bright red with a silvery look interior (the seats were like a silver/beige color)
OEM 18" wheels with brand new Michelin Pilot Sport's
A few paint chips on the mirrors and mesh grille but no dents or dings visible
I guess these things come with all the options so I can't tell if there is any special equipment on it.
Needs a detail. It looked like it came off a lease yesterday.

It just came from an auction (GA Dealers? FAAO? Somewhere...) as it still had all the markings on the windshield. It's a very cool looking car, flashy without being garish, and the TT is still as beautiful as always.

Any ideas of what these bring wholesale and retail? It's being sold by a dealer that specializes in muscle cars and classics but they have a few late model European cars on the lot too, prolly to generate a little $$$ between $50,000 '69 Camaro sales.

    Thanks!!

EDIT: Here's an Audi press release about the car. Looks identical to this one. http://www.audiworld.com/news/02/naias/alms_tt.shtml

    2006 350z touring roadster,
leather, everything is stock, no chromes

1300 miles on it. Full Factory warranty is intact so the car's close to new

A dealer near my workplace has this car listed for around $35000 (originally listed at 37000). He said he could work with $33280. I can find a brand new one for $37500 although sticker price is around $40000.

Can't find other cars like it used with same mileage and color (daytona blue which I want)

I think fair price is 32000 (15% depreciation on $37500) but he wouldn't play ball for $33000 even. The car's been sitting on the lot for 3 weeks at least. Should I increase my offer or stay put?

    2003 Land Rover Discovery HSE.
    4.6.
    Vienna Green
    Navigation, CD changer, 18' wheels,etc.
    32,000 miles

Overall the truck is in very good condition. I would give it a 7-8 out of 10.
very minor scratch on front bumper and two paint imperfections (chips) about Dime sized in the rear quarters (really not noticeable.)
    No dings whatsoever.
Passenger seat has a small mark in the leather from someones jeans, not ripped at all.

tires are a worn, but legal. (around 10k left in them i would guess)
Truck is fully detailed and showroom clean.

located in Orange County NY. 10917

    very much appreciated.
I have an offer of 20k. as a dealer trade in on a new vehicle.

    thanks! :D

    =================================

    ".. almost Cape Cod .." ....l.o.l.....

We're not getting much help from the color .. and the miles (low for the year) are still creepin' towards 80k ...... if it's clean, rubber is deep and it would only take $200ish to make it right .. then trade side, in and around the tall $11's, might maybe "could" see the low/mid $12's depending on what he is trading on ....

I wouldn't be so concerned about some "special deal" on the 06's .. there is already dealers in the NE (and the SE region) that are "sold out" of their allotments for the 06's, if not, they're darn close by 40/50 days .. and the 07's will see some serious $$ for awhile ...

I'm thinkin' your parents could trade for their CRV and a $12/$13ish *difference* figure ...

    ... let me know .....................!

Yep Carfax came back clean on all counts. Actually the listing on Autotrader has a link to carfax to get free records.

Titled once Dec 2005 as a lease vehicle (after Katrina although it was manufactured in August). Length of ownership around 4 months. The guy at the dealership said it was bought from a wholesaler.

I test drove it. Drives great. couldn't tell the difference between that and the new coupe I test drove at another dealership. Leather interior looks immaculate. No water marks if you must ask. Not sure if MSO would be at dealer if they bought from wholesaler.

So what do you think Terry? Pull the trigger at 33280 or let him sit?

    Vincent

PS. BTW who's the tall blonde from South Carolina?

Thinking about selling our mini-van rather than trading... In upstate N.Y., Albany area. 2003 Town and Country Limited FWD, 54,000 miles ,silver exterior, gray leather interior. Interior shows some wear due to kids (some carpet damage. Exterior shows no major dings etc. Original tires, though they are taken off in the winter for snows. New brakes, all maintenance at dealer at recommended intervals and about 6000 miles left on a transferable extended warranty.

    Hey Terry-

    SLC Utah
2002 Mazda B2300 SE Ext Cab
    2.3L 4 cyl 5-speed Manual
    RWD
    37k miles
    Red with grey guts
All the base SE options and nothing else - Air, CD, alloy wheels sliding rear window, rear jump seats. NO Cruise, PW, PL, Keyless, etc.
Pretty nice shape. Original tires are getting pretty thin, inside of the bed is a bit scratched up from hauling around bikes. Interior is clean as a pin, shows that whole "pride of ownership" thing.

What should I be looking to get this for? The owner thinks it's in "excellent" condition, of course.

    Thanks,
    Jason

Hey Terry, I got one opinion on this, but wondered what you thought:

    Detroit area
    2002 Toyota RAV4 4WD
    87,000 miles
    silver
    auto, air, pw/pl, cruise, CD
looks brand new (honest), interior flawless
    tires and brakes fairly new
    original owner
However, was in accident (front end) over 2 years ago (approx $6K damage). Airbags never deployed. I can't tell that it has been repaired, but I'm sure a professional will be able to. Carmax shows NO accidents, however.

What is it worth w/o the accident, and how much less does that make it?

    Thanks for your help.

    Terry:

Didn't realize you were gone till I saw all the congrats on your return. Some other guys popped some good info on me while you were out, but figure I should gut-check it with you.

    Here's the ride:

    St Louis Missouri...
    2004 TSX black on black...
    manual trans, no nav...
    30,320 miles...
extremely mint condition, still has remnants of new car smell - BUT - has had rear bumper cladding (only) re-sprayed as got scratched through with no mechanical damage; also scratch on one wheel...
Sneakers (original) have 5 - 10K left on them, not more...
Maintenance per the book by dealer...

What say you on how many simoleans might she fetch...?

    Thanks,

Hope all is well. Sentra's back at Nissan for the 5th time with the Service Engine Light on with warranty up in 2 weeks. Gotta cut this one from the herd soon. Really like the new Civic and was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the Vibe was. Volvomax appraised my '03 Sentra GXE with 28.5k miles at $7500.. Does that sound about right?

Dealer probably paid in and around the tall $30ish figure .. maybe even the low/mid $31ish figure because of the loooooow miles .... somewhere between $32,5 and $33 you guys have a basis for doing some "bid-ness" ...

I don't think he has a need to give this one away ... spring has sprung and he'll get a customer off a new one and sell this one for $34ish+ because of the lower payments .. $33 and some change would be fair for both ...

..keep in mind, everyone is a payment buyer ... well, just about everyone except for Mathias .. ;)

    ..... Good Mornin' Sandman .....

All is well, thank you.! ...... those 25 hour flights ain't no walk in the park though ... eeehh.

I wouldn't be worrying about a check engine light, it could be anything small .. plus since the problem has been "dated" before the warranty has run out, it will, it "should" be covered even 3/4 months out -- (as long as the paperwork is on the computer and there is a paper trail) ......

$7,500..? .. try buying a clean low mileage Sentra GXE (auto I hope and light color) for $7,5 at the Atlanta or the Florida auction .... $7,8/$8,0 would be more in tune ...... or, run it down Retail Rd for $9,900 *asking* and get slapped upside your head for $8,9/$9,5 ..... right size and cheap on gas ...

Thanks Terry. I was just a little wary that the car's been sitting in the lot for close to a month at least. They actually had it in the middle of their used car showroom but now it is outside in the lot ( a little puzzling since it was replaced by an Altima!! ) On the other hand I guess I would have been disappointed if it sold quickly so maybe I will do the deal.

The question you should ask yourself is "why".
An 05 Accord should be worth more than an 06 Sonata of the same trim level and equipment - even with 24K.

Welcome back Terry, we missed ya... and I was happy to see volvomax picking up some of the slack lately, thanx!

Looking at possibly trading into a Subaru, as my automotive wanderlust strikes again...

What's it worth... in Wilmington, NC
2002 Honda Accord EX V6 Coupe
    yes, that's the V6/automatic...
    62000 miles (they're all mine)
gold exterior, tan leather interior, all the EX goodies
exterior is free of dents/dings/scratches, but rear bumper cover has been replaced and some minor work done to driver's door, in separate incidents. Like a dumba$$, I filed a police report on the bumper incident and it shows up on the Carsmack, but damage was only $600.
interior is clean, leather looks good but perhaps aging a little fast
tires have 60-70% of the tread life remaining, brakes at least 80%
all scheduled maintenance completed per "severe" intervals in the Honda manual

Now for the fun part... whether it's a midlife crisis is a separate discussion, but I saw this one at a Subie dealer, but not certified... dare to enlighten me on the retail side and/or how much $$ he has in it?
    2004 Subaru Impreza WRX wagon
    5-speed
    29000 miles
    silver with black cloth interior
There are no options on Subies.
Front tires look to be down to about 4/32, but there's more life in the rears. Brakes and maintenance are a question mark until I have it inspected by a mechanic.
Only a few visible scratches and no kisses on the exterior... no significant wear and tear on the interior, but not the cleanest in history either. Looks a bit like a turn-and-burn, but Carsmack says he's had it on the lot since early Feb... he's asking $19,995.

First off, welcome back Terry. I returned to the forum after about 2 years (used to be spatulaman...I think...I forgot my old login), and you were nowhere to be found!

Anyways...I'm looking at pitching my Taslowma for a Ram SRT-10.

    2001 Tacoma X-tra Cab 4x4 v6
    60k miles
Power windows, locks, mirrors, steering, A/C, cd player, bedliner, sliding rear window, towing package
    Black outside
    Tan inside
    Manual trans
Between good and very good condition, but closer to good than VG

good grief! you sound like he shot your mother in his first reply. relax.

2nd ... you may think your car is in excellent condition, but its not. There is no such thing as an "excellent" used car. Regardless, its an Accord, I'm sure you'll be happy with the value no matter what. That certainly won't be true 2 years down the road with that Hyundai, however.

My friend just crashed her 1999 Mazda 626 LX (four-cylinder, automatic)--thankfully, she was unhurt (she ran off the road into a fence and some signage). It had 102,000 miles, full Taliban treatment on the interior, some bad prior body work on one rear quarter and door, no working A/C, and the transmission had never had the fluid changed. Edmund's TMV is $2000-ish.

Insurance totalled it and wrote her a check for $6,000, which may come close to paying the higher insurance for five or so years for having an at-fault accident... Other than that factoid, it's a stellar amount of money to get for that car!

Welcome back Terry. I missed reading your posts (though I hardly ever post myself).

I am not sure if you were serious about the speaking Chinese thing, but I do, so if there is something I can be of service of, please let me know. :)

I'm interested in this number, also...

Your car would have had an MSRP of around $32K, when new... Last May, you could have bought it new for around $23,400...

It will be interesting to see what they are going for now...

    Hi there,
Thinking about pulling the trigger on this one:

    Location: Los Angeles
    2003 Mazda6 S
    4 dr V6 3.0L FWD
    5 speed manual
    50K miles
    Silver ext/black int.

Has every option for this year I believe (except for navigation): sports pkg, heated leather seats, Bose, CD changer, side airbags, moonroof, spoiler, 17 in. wheels, etc.
Condition is good/average for its age of 3 years - tires have lots of life, interior is clean. The owner wasn't meticulous about it but probably didn't beat it up either - a mechanical inspection will reveal more. Carsmack is clean.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    1) Reading them carefully

Well, in plain English, your post implied you wanted to trade your 05 Accord for an 06 Sonata. Is that not what you intend to do.

    2) Doing any research to verify if what I am saying is correct.

Why should I care? You can do all the research you want. Or you can listen to the experts here, everyone of whom will tell you what you about to do is a dumb idea financially.

Also, interested in this number. I heard my neighbor is thinking about getting rid of his aero. It is basically the same car. I am curious if these bring the same money as other subarus or if they hold their value more like saabs.
  • kingrkingr Member Posts: 62
Well, I think you need to take some english lessons, First of all my post did not imply anything, I stated exactly the Make and MODEL of the vehicles in question. Again - See my comment about reading posts carefully! You seem to think all 2005 Honda Accords have the same value. Again - Do some research.
It's too bad when someone asks a legitimate Trade value question and someone else feels the need to reply to give them brilliant financial advice.
If you don't care why did you reply in the first place?

Came across this on eBay (haven't asked the seller any questions yet) and am curious about its potential. Let me know what y'all think.

    Year/Make/Model: 2006 Audi A3
    Body Style: sport wagon/hatchback
Engine: 2.0L Turbocharged I4 DOHC 16V, auto (DSG)
    Driveline: FWD
    Mileage: 9900
Color: tan (Dakar Beige Metallic) exterior/ Beige leather interior
Major Options: Premium package, cold weather package (heated seats, outside mirrors, and windshield washer nozzles), dual pane sun roof, xenon headlights, factory stereo, factory alarm system
    Condition:
Exterior looks pretty good, no obvious dents/ding or paint touch-ups. Interior is clean, carpet in the back is scuffed/dinged a bit from loading/unloading.
    Tires - unknown
    Brakes - unknown
Maintenance - up to date as far as I know (car was for an Audi corporate employee)

I believe the point was only that you would trade a vehicle with one of the best resale values on the planet for a vehicle with on of the worst resale values on the planet. If you like the Sonata better, great.

For fun I would have Terry tell you what a comparable 05 Sonata would be worth.
